I hope i am posting this in the correct location. I finally rooted my Verizon Samsung note 2. I am on 4.1.2 rooted with "casual". I have root access with super user and twrp installed. I am dying to use the new N3bula with note 3 functions. In the directions it says before flashing this r.o.m. you must use Mj9 official from (beantown) using odin, then flash the N3bula using twrp. Im confused on exactly the steps for this? specifically because i thought there was a post or 2 that says not to use odin once your rooted? Please someone help me , im drowning in newbness. Thanks so much. IF possible can you send me to the correct how to achieve my goal? or a quick how to. Thanks so much.

Hey, I believe this post should've been posted in the N3bula section because it's directly related to that ROM. I do know what you're asking about though because i've been waiting for this ROM for forever! Try downloading this from beanstown (it should be the third link in his post mentioning something about firmwares) and flashing it via ODIN. Be very careful with odin though, it does change some very important things internally on your phone.

'no need to use Odin once rooted' means not use Odin to flash roms. (there's always and exception to something and not flashing roms through odin was to protect people from causing major problems) there is a file to be flashed in odin in beans thread on the 4.3 update, i believe third link. ill post a link soon as possible. until then look at adams thread about dont flash with odin, or something like that. busy flashing stuffs

I am rooted with the Galaxy Note II toolkit version 4.1.5 and I want to download the new OTA Stock update. Do I need to unroot first and if so I need help cannot get my computer with the Note II toolkit to recognize my phone serial number never shows up and I do have the updated drivers. Any ideas or help would be great appreciated.
If you want the OTA, you do need to be stock. I've actually never used the Toolkit so I can't be of much help that way but why not try Odin? Is is fairly simple to use and I've never had a problem flashing anything with it.
"Of course if they are compatible."
Use this to update u won't loose anything... just need to be stock with root and twrp...

Start researching odin. More than likely you will have to reinstall a clean image.
safestrap enabled hyperdrive powered
I advise you to search up odin, sounds like you have bricked your phone. Before you even start to root your phone, I advise you to read and re-read all the documentation of the process of rooting your phone. Making sure and double checking if that specific rooting process is made for your specific model and build version.
You can easily find out what build version and model you have by simply looking at your phone setting<more<about phone
Be very careful and double check before doing anything with custom roms.

Yes, but after flashing random, well-known to not work stuff onto the phone, the recovery assistant won't appear.

No, it wont. As in, it won't repair your phone.
Please read what you somehow managed to miss.
You'll need to re-flash your phone with an appropriate no-wipe or full-wipe rom from the development forum.
Then, once it's working, consider reading first before flashing anything else.

You can't install a custom recovery on your phone. The best you can get is safestrap so after reading up on Odin and you get your phone flashed I would check out the safestrap threads in general and the development forum.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

Sorry I realize how stupid this is going to sound but I thought it was worth a shot asking Anyway. So there is a prerooted stock rom for ND7 which is custom recovery flashable and doesn't touch the bootloader (if im not mistaken). so for those who took the OTA update clearly they have no way to flash a custom recovery do to the locked bootloader and I understand that. But what if I convert the prerooted rom into an odin flashable tar? Any chance I could be onto something or my setting myself up for a brick from hell!!!
a little more info
As ive surpassed 100 views and no response I thought perhaps I'd elabrate a little for people to know exactly what I'm talking about.
I want to make it clear my goal is not to unlock the bootloader, right now I just want root I'm not a master dev and I'm not going to go try to do something i'm incapable of, the reason I'm posting this question is because if there is a dev that would know if this was a good idea or definitely a brick, and/or if there is a soul braver then me to test my theory.
Anyway all that out of the way I think everyone is aware that the ND7 update locked the bootloader. I think they are also aware that towlroot, saferoot, kingo, or vroot all will not work. cf-autoroot will also fail. flashing a recovery is impossible with the locked bootloader.
So here is what my idea is.
In the past I have been able to flash stock roms with Odin so long as they are the same Rom, same version ect.
N3BULA Team made a Pre-Rooted stock ND7 Rom made for people who have not yet updated to nd7. This rom is made for Philz or CWM it is a zip and it is not a tar, and I belive this rom doesn't touch your bootloader though I could of course be wrong.
This is a link to the rom thread I refer to. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765021
rwilco12 Made a very thorough tutorial about how to make an Odin Flashable rom using a linux machine, and I have no issues using linux.
this is the link to the tutorial I am refering too
http://www.rwilco12.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=92
So now my point is if use rwilco12's tutorial to convert n3bula's Pre-Rooted rom into a odin flahable tar and flash it on the 1605 that already has ND7 on it...any chance it will be the root solution everyone is trying to achieve...or is it certain death...If anyone can help please do...I'm not doing this to get any credit..if I ever upload my converted tar all credit would go to team n3bula for making the rom...but all i want is some sort of way to get root on ND7 that's all!!!

Well I can tell you our build does not touch the bootloader but what you are trying to accomplish I do not think is possible. Sad to say, I think this would result in a bad brick..not sure it would be none fixable but why risk it?
I might ask around and follow up with but I do not think that is possible..

Sorry I know you guys get common stuff like this a lot, and as such I searched for my issue but everything I found lead me to a dead end.
I'm currently using VZW Galaxy S4 (SCH-i545) with build VRUDMI1 and android 4.2.2
I had disabled OTA updates by using a guide about a year ago. I'm needing to unroot my phone and put it back to stock so I can get OTA and move on to 4.4 (I don't know enough about custom roms and flashing to do it without OTA).
From what I read, I need to use odin to flash a tar file while in download mode. Problem is, I don't know which file to get. I've looked at some guides but I can't find a working link for an SCH-545 VRUDMI1 with 4.2.2
Any help would be appreciated and thanks for your time.

Thank you, I did discover that very thread, but the build number doesn't match mine. I wasn't sure if that made any difference and out of fear of bricking my phone, I posted this to make sure. So even though the build isn't what mind presently says, it should be ok?

Yea, this will update and unroot all in one. Like the post said, if that update doesn't work, then grab the NC2 one. It would be best to factory reset as well.
I was curious if this still works on ND7 of the Verizon Galaxy Note 2? Thanks.

WARNING: DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING WITH a sboot.bin!! This will either
relock your device or render it inoperable.
Recently, resident hardware hacker, XDA Elite Recognized Developer and XDA Developer TV Producer AdamOutler got his hands on a Verizon variant of the new Samsung Galaxy Note II. He assembled a team of experts including Recognized Developer Ralekdev and fellow Elite Recognized Developer Rebellos. With a group this talented they had the bootloader unlocked in no time. Why does Verizon even try?
This exploit involves installing Revision ROM as an Odin package. Running the CASUAL to exploit. Then flashing the custom bootloader and TWRP recovery. It ends by booting back into the ROM. Remember to boot back into the ROM, this is important because you wont get LTE back until CASUAL completes and tells you that you are unlocked. So grab a

I'm sorry but the answer is no. If you are on ND7 and have a locked bootloader right now, than you are stuck with a locked bootloader. I think your only 3 options are to root and use Xposed mods to customize, or to root and use Safestrap to flash a touchwiz rom with the same kernel as the stock kernel, or send your phone out to Mobile Tech Videos in Texas to do a downgrade service on your phone.
Those are the only options that I am aware of for phones on MJ9 or higher with locked bootloader.
Please don't take this the wrong way but this is not where you create a new thread. This section is for android development. You should have asked this in the "Q&A help and troubleshooting" section of this forum. Just for future references.

Oh ok. Thank you for the response. I'll do that in the future. Do you think sending it to Mobile Tech is worth the trouble personally?
Absolutely. My granddaughter got hold of my phone while I was in TWRP recovery mode and screwed my phone up bad. It ended up with the boot loader updated and locked (my fault for that one) and all I could do from then on out was use Safestrap and flash Safestrap compatible roms.
I heard about Mobile Tech Video and thought it couldn't hurt to try and 2 weeks later I was back in the"flashing saddle"again. I highly recommend their services.

Same thing happened to me...Did you have any luck getting it working. I am sitting here with an unusable phone and was hoping to get it running.
note 2 nd7 rom
yes what i did was i installed safestrap 4.0 and i of course did a back up and instead of flashing in the rom slot i wiped my stock slot and installed alliance rom and had no issues at all..it was a risk but i took it cause i can and/or could of just used odin to flash stock back so yes phone works flawless..got a note 4 coming today so im tossing my note 2 as a backup phone goodluck
Good day
So after you wiped the stock slot and installed the rom , it worked out okay?
