Hi,
I have a Parrot Asteroid Tablet, Android 2.3.7 that is usually delivered without google apps.
I rooted with framaroot and installed Google Services Framework, Vending.apk and Gplay3.8.17.apk
I can start google play, but most apps are not being shown, no google maps and a lot of other apps that should be android 2.3 compatible are missing as well.
Is this maybe because some wrong entry in the build.prop?

Your issue is that it is a China based device and China doesn't have an agreement with Google to use their apps so nothing will show up. Also 2.3.7 is not an official android os. So the apps might be compatible. Most apps have been updated to work on 4.0+
