I've read and read, searched and searched this forum and have not come across my exact problem yet...
I know there have been overheating issues, and I know there have been boot looping problems... all causing terrible battery life, mine has neither. Let me rephrase, my overheating issue is not due to me actually using the phone... On idle (with the screen off), my Rezound only lasts about 2 hours on a full battery. Granted, I live in an area where there isn't full service, but there is some service. I can watch as data is being exchanged with no apps running. What the hell is using data? I have a feeling this is what is killing my battery, the phone is not at all sleeping. I have deselected "always on data" and I turned off fast boot and auto sync.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, my phone is a bone stock refurb.
Try a factory reset maybe?
I can do that, but it doesn't really solve the problem. It just started doing this yesterday. I've had it over 2 months and haven't downloaded anything different. I would really rather just figure out what is causing it, so I don't have to do a factory reset every time something like this happens. You know? Thanks for your suggestion, I'm afraid that is going to be my last resort right before exchanging it...
Try exchanging the battery first. Start small. Work your way up to the big stuff(exchanging the phone). Why give up the customizations you've done if you just have a bad battery?
I was thinking it may be a bad battery, but it concerns me that I can watch the data stay running even though I'm not using anything that requires it. My brother has a Rezound and I placed mine next to his and literally watched the battery life deplete 10% in 5 minutes while his lost no percentage at all, both were idle with the same screen settings. Is it common for a battery to fail that drastically out of nowhere?

Is it common....no, possible yes, plausible given the circumstances....absolutely.

If data is constantly being used, something HAS to be using your data. I'd get an app like better battery stats and CPU spy. CPU will show you if your phone is going into sleep mode at all and better battery stats can show you which apps may be causing it.
Do you have the 4G antenna on?
I have betterbatterystats, it shows android system at the top of processes. That program is a little difficult to understand since everything is abbreviated.
I appreciate all of your responses. I just got off the phone with Verizon, they're sending me another phone AND battery for good measure. During lunch today I watched the percentage of my battery deplete while it was plugged into the wall and not being used, used a different charger, nothing. It wasn't even hot. I turned the phone off to try to get it to charge. when I turned it back on, it got to the lockscreen and then restarted itself. Boot looping now. I'm not going to fool with it anymore. Maybe the third Rezound will be better.

I haven't changed anything from out of the box other than visual properties. I'm assuming the network has a little to do with it, but it started failing way too fast to be a radio problem IMO.
I received my 2nd Rezound last week. First one had the hiss/feedback/interference issue through the headphone jack that escalated to a level of to not being able to use the headphones at all without being painful. Anyway, the new one is running very hot (battery) and is draining the battery almost as fast as you're describing yours to do. I've used both the standard battery and extended. This morning while using it at home on wifi with most of my syncs either disabled or set at a min of 2 hrs it drained my extended battery by 20% in 20 mins. I wasn't even using the internet or streaming any music or video. I was working on setting up calender and task list widgets. Phone is stock, not rooted. I will be calling Verizon tonight to see about getting a 3rd one. Sucks as I really like this phone when it's working properly. If the 3rd one has issues to and HTC isn't rolling out any fixes for them I might have to look at something else. But I don't want to!
I feel like if I can get the hardware to cooperate with me, I can get the software to. I was planning on rooting after the ICS push, but the phone obviously had different plans.
Set your phone to CDMA only, especially if you don't live in an area with LTE coverage. You will see significant battery advantages from that alone.

I should have mentioned that I'd already done that (only 3G here anyway). I've done all the battery management tricks I've read about but this phone has an issue. I'm not even getting half the battery life out of it that I was on the 1st one. And the battery gets significantly hotter then the other phone.

Cell standby shows 41% usage. Is that right?
The 2 red circles in the screenshot show when my phone is idle just lying there.

We need more information. What apps run? have you remove/freeze bloatware. Are you rooted? what rom are you on?
I'm going to run this based on speculation perhaps side effects of rooting your phone? I know there is no conclusive evidence of this but a hypothesis as such. My apologies if you aren't rooted.

why would rooting your phone create battery drain?
OP the standard answer is to install better battery stats and check it again to see what those wakelocks are. Once you find out why your phone is waking up you can do something about it.

I'm also getting a 10% battery drain over night. I've been putting the phone in airplane mode to see if that helps at all but it really doesn't. Anyway we can inprove this? 10% seems like a lot for sleeping...

GSam Battery Monitor and / or BetterBatteryStats would be the first place as mentioned already.
I was able to find what was causing me most issues. It was some Calender storage and Google syncs (bookmarks, contacts etc) even though I didn't have them activated.
Anyway, after freezing them I now only lose 2-3% overnight. That is with gmail push, email sync every 4 hours and about 7 or 8 other Widgets updating every few hours. Mostly noticed a massive improvement when I flashed the latest siyah kernal.

I don't know but I get the feeling that rooting various phones might have hidden side effects as such, rooting your phone is still evolving as of today. There are still alot that the general doesn't know hence there are always new things about rooting although I might not be knowledgeable in that department. However is it possible to unroot your phone? rather revert it to stock? try doing that and see if there are any differences.
My new Galaxy S3 seems to be draining 2-3% per hour on standby, which doesn't seem normal to me. That's 20-30% lost over the course of the day whilst idle -- too much juice lost for my liking.
Most of the drain comes from cell standby. I'm aware of the bug which reports cell standby much higher than in reality, but that shouldn't affect the actual speed of the drain, just the reporting.
I suspect that the drain is because I cut my old SIM card down to a micro SIM, but I'm not sure. The cut isn't exactly perfect, although the phone does read it. From what I have read, all the SIM card does is supply credentials for accessing the mobile network, so it shouldn't affect signal strength, only whether the phone connects to the network. The signal seems to be weaker on the GS3 than on my old phone, but not that bad -- the signal still perfectly usable in most areas and I never actually lose signal altogether unless in a poor reception area. The drain seems excessive even though I don't lose signal most of the time.

If you are having such excessive battery drain, I would recommend (if you want) to root your phone and installer BetterBatteryStats to track down what is draining your phone so excessivly.
Also freezing unwanted apps with Titanium or simply uninstalling them can help.
If you have not done so, in your wireless settings, advanced, keep wi-fi on during sleep, change to Never. This could also help.
I would also take a look at your sync settings. High frequency syncing can cause an increase in battery drain

You can root your phone, then before you unroot the phone use TriangleAway to reset the binary counter to 0 which will keep your warrenty vaild, then return the phone to stock unrooted.
I had the same drain issue when I first got the phone. Rooted, and went to a custom rom, and custom kernal, getting better battery life than ever.

Basically... You can use the phone as normal, but what you are looking for is the partial and kernel wakelocks that occur while it is supposed to be asleep. Once you start getting partial wakelocks it will help you track down what is waking the phone up, so you can take corrective actions, to save yourself some battery life.

Though for the moment, I want to make sure that this isn't a hardware (SIM card) problem.

If you wanted to test it yourself you could take out the simcard after a couple hours of sleep and see if its really hot (take it out and check quickly because it'd loose heat fast due to materials etc) because the power would need to go somewhere & if its a problem with the SIM card then it'll be diverted to the card and it would be dispersed via heat

If someone could look at me kernel wakelock and partial wakelock stats and see if there's anything unusual, that would be great.
I decided to do a little bit of research, and it seems that much of the battery drain is wifi related (wlan_rx_wake and wlan_wake), but there may also be some mobile connectivity issues as well (l2_hsic and ConnectivityService).
Is my interpretation correct? What can I do to stop these wakelocks?

Well I know that there's an option to disable wifi during sleep, but I discovered that my phone never seems to go to deep sleep in the first place unless I actually turn off wifi and mobile data manually.
I think I've isolated the problem to data connectivity being on. If wifi and mobile data are disabled, the battery drain is normal (basically nothing), but the drain occurs if one of both are enabled. So something is sucking data in the background -- this conclusion also seems to be consistent with my wakelock stats.
I don't know if it's a rogue app -- I disable sync by default, and almost all of the apps installed on this phone are also installed on other devices and I haven't experienced any excessive battery drain on those.

Can you please provide some more details on this?
I.E. What is it plugged into to charge? Laptop, Desktop, AC, etc etc.
- I ask this because I had a phone that would actually consume more power than a USB port could put out. when turning off the laptop, it actually allowed a back drain for some reason, and the next morning the device was dead. (Not this phone)
Also, what applications are running? Any?
Finally, you can try to retrain your battery... Wiping stats does not work, ever. So despite what anyone tells you, don't do it. You're just wasting time. SOURCE
So, how do you retrain your battery? Let it die completely. Then plug it in to charge. Don't use it while it's charging if you can help it. DO NOT remove it from the charger until it's at 100%. Once this is done, use it til it dies on it's own. Then yet again, charge it fully and then go back to your normal use.
In some cases, these batteries can go bad, for various reasons. A quick test, but is not always trustworthy is to spin your battery on either side. If it makes more than 2 full rotations, it's swelling and going out. Replace it.
The best alternative is to take it to a battery shop, and let them put it on a Cadex machine. (Pronounced Kay-Dex) ... This machine will charge and discharge the battery several times over a few hours and truly test the current life -vs- the life it should be. Anything rated less than 80% remaining life should be replaced.

Trib wrote 5 paragraphs on info you need to provide and you come back with a small sentence? Pretty much if you use your phone a good amount it will only last you a day per charge. Unless you give us an explanation on how fast it is draining it's impossible to even start helping

6 hours 40 minutes from 100% to 10%, and the phone in stand by! Cell standby - 45%, Phone idle - 48%, Screen - 7%
And all this after a hard reset and retrain battery! The battery is almost new (aprox 1 month)!
I want it to make a screen shot of battery drain, but I have no clue how to do that on LG L9...

I hard reset it once again. Now is on charging. After that, I will provide you a screenshot with battery stats. Thank you for your help! I try to borrow an othe battery from an other LG L9 phone to see if is the battery or the phone! I hope to find someone with that kind of phone.

I attached a screenshot. Yesterday I changed the battery. Same problem! I take it this screenshot this morning, after I fully charged the phone ... Same problem, a new battery.
Can you please tell us what applications you have running in the background?
Also deactivate google now.(or the google services in google maps). download and install GSam Battery Monitor and after a cycle tell us what applications are eating your battery the most. It's clear that you either use yout phone(screen on time) allot or there is/are some applications that prevent your phone from going to sleep.
I use battery widget reborn and it shows me wneh the phone woke up,when the phone had the screen on,wi-fi on,gps on. Try it as well.
I also had battery issues when on JB. I downgraded back to ics. It's much more reliable when it comes to battery life. And the performance is about the same.
I don't have any app installed. After i replace the battery, i made a hard reset and I did not installed any app. I will install cpuspy and betterbatterystats for more results. I will back tomorrow. Until than, maybe you can provide me more advices. It can be from a damage sim card?

I guess your signal quality isn't good enough because cell standby is eating up more than 40% of battery. Cell standby in my phone is only around 5%..

I removed the sim card, but in flight mode is the same problem... The last solution is to change the rom with a custom one. Any recomandation?
It's not that. Not the signal. It's the firmware. JB has these problems. In ICS Display is the major consumer followed by Phone Idle and Cell Standby.
I also had these problems in JB and reverted back to ICS .
I would advise you to install CM 10.1 on the phone. The battery life is better than stock. I get around 12-16 hours normally. The latest RC4 has fixed almost all the bugs present in older CM 10.1 variations. Give it a try.
I will root the phone and I will give a try with CM 10.1 or I revert to 4.0.4. If all this will be for nothing, I will sell the phone!

On ICS you will get great battery life Telling from my experience as i have reverted back to ICS after trying JB and CM 10.1( both have very poor battery life ) . So instead of wasting time just flash ICS and forget about battery issue :good:

I have the p769, and I offline flashed up to V20D (and rooted). Removed some tmobile bloat, and I have pretty decent battery life. I guess I'm lucky.

Hey, I've been using stock 4.1.2+ExperiencedKernel for a long time, it always worked great, but a few days ago I installed an icon pack for KKLauncher, and since then my battery consumption got really bad, around 15-20% per hour when the display is off! I've tried deleting the icon pack, but it's the same, I'm even checking BetterBatteryStats for details, but it doesn't show anything suspicious, although I'm using the app for the first time, so maybe I overlooked something. I have also reflashed the rom+kernel with full wipe, but no luck. Can anyone tell me what can cause this mess, or what should I upload from BetterBatteryStats for someone to check the problem? Thanks in advance.

If you don't have any wakelocks keeping it awake and you've reflashed the ROM, kernel and did a full wipe and the battery drain still exists... Then I'd say your battery is failing, especially if it's getting hot. My L9 never gets hot, even under heavy use.
The only other thing you could really try is flashing back to stock and see if the problem is still there... Really though, I'm pretty sure it's your battery.

Hi, thanks for your answer. The problem is, the phone gets really hot on the upper side of it, near the camera. The battery never gets hot at all. Is it possible, if it's battery problem?

I thought you meant that the battery was getting hot. The last time I had a battery go out, it was getting hot and it was draining fast. Shortly after that it wouldn't take a charge anymore.
It is possible that it's a hardware issue. WiFi, GPS or the camera could cause it to get hot also.
You can also try and boot the phone into "Safe Mode" and run it like that for a day or two and see if the problem still exists. If it problem disappears while in Safe Mode then you have a rogue app or something that's causing the issue.
Then to narrow it down you could try downloading Wakelock Detector and see if something is keeping it awake, making it hot and drain the battery.
Monitor it with Better Battery Stats and Wake lock Detector. Post some screen shots of BBS and Wakelock Detector here too. That way we can see if something is going on.
This is one of those issues that will take a process of elimination to figure out.

It is possible that it's a hardware issue. WiFi, GPS or the camera could cause it to get hot also.
You can also try and boot the phone into "Safe Mode" and run it like that for a day or two and see if the problem still exists. If it problem disappears while in Safe Mode then you have a rogue app or something that's causing the issue.
Then to narrow it down you could try downloading Wakelock Detector and see if something is keeping it awake, making it hot and drain the battery.
Monitor it with Better Battery Stats and Wake lock Detector. Post some screen shots of BBS and Wakelock Detector here too. That way we can see if something is going on.
This is one of those issues that will take a process of elimination to figure out.

I've been using BBS, it shows that the phone is in deep sleep in most of its off time, no app wakes it up. Also, wifi seems to lose its signal very often, even though it's strong (there wasn't any problem with that before).
I'm using the phone now without SD and SIM cards, it doesn't seem to be that hot than it used to, but charging and draining are still very weak. I'm gonna try safe mode as you suggested, and also using the phone without wifi turned on, if that is the issue. Thanks for your tips.
So, the phone cooled down after I turned off wifi, then I rebooted to safe mode, and it became hot once again, but after the media scanning, it cooled down once again. So I guess it may be the CPU? I've been trying to get a picture of the phone's circuit board with no luck, because the phone is only warm in the upper 1/3, the other parts seem to be cooled down all the time.
I'm gonna return it to T-Mobile on Monday, hopefully they won't notice the unlocked bootloader.

Yeah it might be the CPU. Also if it's dropping and/or scanning a lot for WiFi, then it will definitely get hot and kill the battery quickly.
I don't think that T-Mobile will notice that it's unlocked. As long as you flash back to stock ROM before taking it in, then they probably won't notice. They would have to be purposely looking for it to be unlocked.
You might want to flash back to stock anyway and see if the problem is still there... It very well could be a ROM/kernel issue causing the problem.

I have flashed back stock one I've been using (cwm flashable), of course I will remove root and any suspicious apps. I appreciate your help.
