Screen problem, does not respond and turns grey

Greetings,
During the last two days now my android (SGS3) screen does not respond as it should.
When I press the "Home" button or the "Power" button (when in sleep mode) the screen turns bright,
but it does not respond and after a while it turns gray because of inactivity. This happened during
Internet browsing, but sometimes I get lucky and can unlock it.
Any inputs on what might be worng?
Thanks!
It is difficult to say anything by such little information!
Have you done any screwing thing to that device?
Just do whatever you can and if not helps last just factory reset it it will be done!

[Q] Screen very dim after unlocking?

Hello,
the following problem appears when i try to unlock the phone after some hours: i can see my home screen, but the screen stays extremely dim. When i try to start an app (e.g. browser) the screen turns black. I can unlock it again, but the screen stays dim. after some unlocking the screen becomes normal (normal brightness) and also the apps are startable.
i am using autobrightness, the stock firmware, 4.1.1 (i9300xxdlih) power saver is not turned on.
thx, i hope you can help me solving this problem

i updated mobile phone to android versiopn 4.1.2. this morning. Unfortunately the problem still appears.
Maybe its a hardware defect?
Try to disable somehow light sensor and change settings to non auto brightness.

i disabled auto brightness and set the brightness to the highest level. But its still same: very dim and after a while a black screen; after a few times of unlocking, the display works normally
I have just seen the same issue on a friend's S3.
Anyone else? I feel like this is a very big issue that is still lurking in a lot of devices.
I tried it myself and I toggled the power button to turn the screen on and off.
It doesn't take long but sometimes when the screen turns back on, it's super dim and you can faintly see the lockscreen image.
You have to cycle the screen several more times to get it to the 'correct' brightness, and no it is NOT a brightness setting.
It's some hardware issue in the phone.
Sorry for the necrobump, but I only found this thread. I have this problem too since about a week back. It makes my phone useless at times. I first thought it was a software issue. I have an app (called Twilight) for dimming the screen more than normal settings and also toning it, for nightime use, and I thought that was the culprit first, but nope. I have flashed rom, recovery, wiped all caches I can think of. Still happens, just now I was in the middle of installing android revolution hd, and the screen ultradimmed on me so I can't finish the process
Thing is, a few months ago I managed to crack my screen by way of gravity and concrete. I let the samsung brand service centre in Stockholm repair it for me (it is out of warranty) and this issue with the dimming never happened before that. Then again, it didn't happen directly afterwards either... but still. So, I am thinking: either me dropping it caused more damages and this is because of that. Or the service center did a bad install of the new screen. Or, the replacement screen that was installed has a defect in itself. I am leaning a bit towards the third explanation... maybe different batches of screens?
Does anyone have any ideas? If I am to contact the service center and complain about their work I would like to be able to point towards a "known problem"...

Take it back, if it didn't happen before then the new screen is most likely.
It isn't a common problem

Cherry Mobile Flare S3 Power

The screen of my Cherry Mobile Flare S3 Power is turning off while I was about to make a call or if I answered someone's call. Is this a proximity bug? Before, within a normal condition of my phone, the screen is only turning off if I place my face near the screen in a call mode and it turns on again after I move away my face. I can't use my phone after call mode coz the screen is in a sleep mode even if i pushed the power button. My only way to use my phone again is recovery mode and reboot. How can I fix this? Guys, please help. Sorry for my english

Yes it has a screen protector. But now I noticed that the issue never occur if the screen is facing to the sunlight or high lights at night

LCD Problem

Hi all,
i really dont know what happened to my phone. the screen turns black instantly after showing the samsung logo on the start up i tried to reflash a fresh firmware but didnt do the job. the screen is showing the download mode also but after restarting and showing the samsung logo the screen turns to black. sometimes it flickers and shows some of the screen but turns off instantly
is there any fix to this ? does my phone encountered a water damage ? i tried the water damage test on the sim tray but the sticker seems to be on its original state no water damage at all any assistance would help i hope the lcd is not broken my country is on a lockdown and service centers open at this moment. i really need the phone for my work
Thanks
you have to turn on AOD to fix this I guess because I had a similar issue with my screen so a temporary fix is to turn on AOD then press power button screen will work fine pressing the power button directly when the screen is off flickers it and the screen turns completely black after a weird yellow flash.

Screen will not turn on once it's off

Hey guys, help me please troubleshoot this issue without resetting my phone..
My Samsung phone (after small/short water damage) has an issue..
If I turn it on, the screen lights up and I can see Samsung logo and welcome screen.
I can login to my phone using pattern unlock and use it just fine, there is no issues, but once screen turns off (due to screen time out, or if I press power button) it will never turn on again, even fingerprint doesn't turn it on..
AOD will not come up as well
Any thoughts?
