[Q] ROM Manager wont install or upgrade - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post.
As title says, ROM manager will refuse to upgrade or install (after being uninstalled), giving the message: Unknown error code during application installation: "-25"
Anyone, any help?
Galaxy SIII GT-i9300 international model
Android version 4.1.1
CWM recovery 6.0.4.3
MIUI V5
Happy new year!

Anyone?

Bumping threads within 24hrs is against forums rules.
No-one here uses rom manager, it can brick your phone. If you want to know more then ask the app writer.

Ok!
Thanks!
Sorry!

I am experiencing the same issue with my VZW Galaxy S3 and using MIUI ROM. So not sure if this is MIUI specific, or ROM Manager? I've seen lots of negative feedback lately on the app page due to FCs and other issues with the application. So I am going to assume bad build unless a new one comes out and has similar issues.
Anyone else see this issue?

[Q] GT-I9000-> rom manager=incompatible?

Like the title says, each time i try to install rom manager from the market (or cwm recovery), it won't let me due to the device being incompatible? The paid version of rom manager works but not the free version.
I've read some old posts and there were little to no explanations. Was wondering if there is any updates for this problem?
Thanks

Root NFC 9100

Hi just to explain how I have ended up here just a little history.
I rooted and installed Cyanomod on my OLD zte blade and the best part of this was clockwork mod backup that got me out of a mess a couple of times when I changed phones.
I bought a new S2 and didnt want to root it as the old zte used to be a bit buggy sometimes. but then my phone was able to be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich and after some reading there are people who arent happy with it so I thought, I know I will root my phone install clockwork mod and backup the rom and if I dont like the new system or it is buggy I can restore it easily.
I did some reading up on here and couldnt find my kernel so I googled it I found a program called unlockroot and it listed my phone unlockroot android
this seemed to unlock it and all was well, but when I used clockwork mod it came up with errors and after reading I think this is because the recovery is e3? anyway I thought never mind I will use odin and do it the other way. but I have not found a kernel for my phone and I dont think there is one. I am not keen on just having a go with a similar one as it is allready rooted and I just need to get clockworkmod going.
the error I get with clockwork mod is
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
baseband no.

Please dont ask me to read any more faq's as they are now confusing me more than before! I think the solution is to somehow change the e3 to e2 or to re flash it. but I am lost
help please
thank you
Ian
If you want root and use CWM, just flash already rooted kernel like CF-Root or Siyah.
Super looks good, but don't I still have a problem finding the right one for my build?
Oh jeez. I noticed that you have P version
Then I don't know.
Lol Thank you for trying to help anyway it is appeechiated (even if I can't spell it!)

1. For signature error try this:
- boot to cwm recovery
- install update from zip / install zip
- toggle signature verification
problem should be solved now
2. About custom stuffs for i9100p
knowledge:
-Galaxy S2 GT I9100P = GT I9100 + NFC
Therefore:
- You can flash GT I9100 Roms, firmwares and custom kernels but you will lose NFC function
Jokesy said it
Just to help anyone who finds themselves oin a simmilar position.
As the e3 bootloader didn't have a swith to turn off file signature verification it meant the only option would be to put a non nfc kernel in removing this feature and possibly never being able to get a nfc kernel I decided to use kies and update the phone to Ice Cream Sandwich. This has restored the phone and removed the root so I can use some fussy software. I will wait and see if a nfc version comes out. Till then I will just stay stock.
Thank you for trying to help

[Q] Updating Custom ROM via Built-in Software Update

I have searched for this simple question, but have yet to find an answer.
I have a custom Android 4.2.2 ROM (for my SGH-I337M) (I cannot provide a link as this is my first post) and I have received a notification asking me to update to the latest version on Android (4.3). I would, but I'm not sure if it is safe to do so via this method. The main reason I have not done this is because after installing this ROM, my model number changed for SGH-I337M to GT-i9505. By doing this, my reasoning is that the update downloaded is for the GT-i9505 and may not be compatible.
Now for the question, is it safe to update my phone this way?
The main reason I'm not using the Android 4.3 link is that my Mobile Network State will not change from Disconnected in that ROM.
While I'm at it I may as well ask this. If I do update this way, and it doesn't work, would a simply recovery from TWRP be OK?
Thanks in advance, and my apologies if I have posted this in the wrong section, I could not find one that was specific to my issue.

[HELP THREAD] Galaxy S3 Ask any question.

There are a lot of people joining xda on daily basis, and there are a lot of repetitive questions being asked which fill up Development threads. Point them here. Feel free to ask or answer questions. Idea of this thread is to get users to help other users with their problems/questions. Please do not spoon feed, but rather point in the direction where that user can find an answer and educate himself
I don't actually have the GS3 unfortunately, but in order to make XDA a better place, I thought I'd open up a help thread for those who need it. I won't be able to give S3 specific help, but I can help in terms of general questions. Hopefully some of the experienced S3 help out on this thread, because it'd make everything easier. Thanks!
First thing first. I strongly advise you to read THIS thread before posting ANYTHING on XDA.
Then, have a quick look at the names of threads in post no2, you might find what you need right away.
For ROM issues please do mention in your post about:
ROM name
ROM version and base
kernel version and its settings
any mods applied on top of it
flashing "style" aka dirty or clean
something like this
...and be sure you have asked before on the ROM thread unless you have less than 10 posts on XDA
Third. Even if you do get your question answered, please, do come back and read threads in post no2 (coming later as soon as we start getting the guides) to educate yourself. You'll be surprised how much time and frustration it will save you in the future.
ASK ANY QUESTION HERE,adb, drivers, superCID etc...... You will either get an answer or will get pointed in the right direction.
No abuse towards noobs tolerated here! No question is stupid in this thread.
***I feel that a little OT is healthy to the success of this type of thread. The people here who help the most will develop a comradery therefore OT is allowed within reason. Common sense will be applied ***
HALL OF FAME
People who contributed most to this thread and helped countless number of people with their problems/questions. In no particular order.
Currently none. Hopefully soon.
Big thanks to Undercover and Xanthrax for this thread model

Stuck
Hey guys, i'm sort of a noob on these forums so any help would be great!
I've had previous experience with rooting because of my S2, no problems at all. I got my s3 about a month ago and I've been trying to figure out how to root it. It's a GT-I9300T ( Australian model ). It has a lot of Vodafone bloatware, however it's unlocked as i'm using an Optus sim card. I've also read that there aren't many differences between the international model and the T model, so any international ROM should work fine. It's running 4.3. I've read about how KNOX is built into 4.3 and makes rooting difficult by blocking the installation of custom Roms and disabling superSu. I'm not sure if i have Knox though, because i don't have a KNOX app installed; there are no KNOX related apps installed on my phone ( according to the all section of my applications manager ) and it says nothing about the KNOX counter in download mode. Is KNOX still present on my phone, and will i be able to install customs roms?
Also, what would be the best method of rooting? I have tried the saferoot method by Mrw0lf on YouTube, which is made not to trigger Knox. I've read about CF root and other methods involving Odin, have not tried any yet because i'm scared of bricking my phone. Any help or link would be helpful. Also, if something goes wrong; would i be able to flash a stock 4.3 ROM onto my phone using Odin? I'm downloading it now from sammobile and i was wondering if flashing anything through Odin would cause problems.
Lastly, is there a way to backup my EFs before rooting? I can't find them through the default file explorer and the folder is empty in 3rd party ones. I can't seem to find them when i go through my phone on my computer, i just want a backup before i try to root.
Anyway, vital phone info:
Model: GT-I9300T
Version: 4.3
Sorry for the long post, but any help would be cool. Also, i'm not that good with all the technical things behind rooting such as CSCs, basebands and such, so any simple explanation would be nice
Thank you! :fingers-crossed:
Good morning
Dont worry about knox
There no knox for S3 now matter what variant
Now secondly.
U can flash everything from i9300 on your i9300t however its advisable that when u flash roms that u maintain or re-flash afterwards the appropriate modem
As the only difference between models is the band frequency
To root it ... For myself the easyest way is ...
Grab philz recovery
Flash it with Odin
Afterward boot into recovery
Go to advanced and choose re-root system
Then just boot the ROM go to market and download supersu you're good to go
About backup efs there's a loooooot of apps to do so u just need the pick the one who's flavour suit u best
Take care
If u have doubts just pm me

I just rooted my phone using Cf auto root. I forgot the warranty was expired so why not It ended up working, now running CyanogenMod 11 nightly About the modem, the reception seems the same. The signal i got before I rooted wasn't that great, haha. But i'll probably flash the modem anyway, just in case. I found a thread with most of the modems for the s3 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-galaxy-s3-modem-radio-collection-t1740061
All the modems are for jellybean, however the ROM i'm on ( CyanogenMod 11 ) is on kitkat. Can i flash any of those modems? For the T model, they say there's no regional or carrier specific one, even though i checked my modem on sammobile and it's not listed in the thread. The latest one is for 4.1.2, i'm on 4.4.2. Should i flash it? Also, can you flash it in CWM, or does it have to be through Odin?
Edit: Seeing as you're a fellow S3 user, have you experienced any lag or freezing with your phone? It happened quite a lot pre root, but i just thought it was due to the bloatware. And Touchwiz, haha. But it's happening with CyanogenMod 11 as well. I know that it's a nightly and that bugs are to be expected however i have an S2 running CyanogenMod 11 as well, and there's nowhere near as much lag. Any ideas? I reset the phone and re installed the ROM twice, mainly because i forgot to flash Gapps XD Any ideas? Should i do a full factory reset, free up some space? I know that there's 2gb left on both the phone and my SD card.
Anyway, thanks for all of your help so far!

If u flashed cm u have retained same modem so no need to update modem
Just leave it be.
About lag no my phone runs just good no matter what aosp or recent stock rom
Check your kernel config or go for a custom one a and set him up to what suits u best.
I use agni kernel on cm alongside with a optimised profile
And even with a UV of CPU and GPU my phone runs real smooth and saves juice

Will i need to flash stock kernel then flash slimkat/gapps or does slimkat have install its own kernel in which case i guess i should just flash normally.

I think you should probably full wipe before flashing another rom. Then you should be good to go to flash slimkat and gapps.

SD Issues ? backwards "u"
My Wife is on her 2nd SD card with the same issues. I copy all of her pics and some videos from her move them to the Sd card. When going into my files it says there is 500+gbs on it! The file path extsdcard/Android has 467 gbs and 471 folders. Then there is a data folder but the D in data is a backwards u then ata. This folder says it is 467gbs with all folders named with crazy looking characters. I did try and search forums but could not find where to post and didn't want to get yelled at by the "Geniuses" on here for posting in the wrong place or not searching well enough. So if u could please get me to the right place it would be much appreciated. All the files are pics and vids of kids and thankfully we have auto backup in with google otherwise it seems we would lose all photos and vids. Thanks. Please see attached pics for reference
S3 4.0.4 stock rom
I had installed android 4.3 on s3 but then I installed 4.0.4 after that I had no gsm connectivity see the block sign between battery and wifi. I have gsm connectivity on 4.3 but not on 4.0.4. A guy told me that it has something to do with the bootloader. I wish to install 4.0.4 stock ICS BTU rom if there's a way do tell me. Thanks in anticipation!
i am using GlamourS4 5.0 rom and googy max2 kernel
the first problem i have is when i pressed the emergency call button on the lockscreen,
it did show anything such as the keyboard and the signal will stop a few seconds and come back.
second, i found the nfc not working anymore in my phone.
the nfc and s beam tag are greyed when i try to turn them on.
can anyone can solve my problems?
Anyone for my weird Network problem...?
I recently rooted my S3 via the CF Root method. Flashed CWM Recovery 6.0.4.4 via Odin.
That's it.
And now this weird problem-
My network is lost anytime! And the phone even doesn't say "Not registered on network" or something like that!
My phone was working properly and suddenly a friend of mine messaged me that he tried calling me but it said that my phone was switched off! I also noticed that at time even the data connection was not working. NO! It's not that it didn't show it isn't connected to the network or the data is disabled! The signal in the status bar was of 4 bars as it is and there was this symbol of 3G beside it. I tried calling my friend but the call got cancelled! I redialed, I didn't hear anything and then again the vibration saying the call was cancelled! I called up on my S3 through my landline number which also said that it was switched off -but not immediately. Whenever someone called me, they didn't hear anything for a long time of a minute or two and THEN it said that my mobile was switched off. I tried selecting my network operator manually, it said 'Registered on Network' but still I couldn't receive or make calls or use my internet data. But I could always send or receive SMSs!! It means it was connected to my network. The only solution was to reboot the phone after which it worked fine for a few hours. FOR FEW HOURS ONLY!
Now it happens at least 2-3 times per day and it has been important for me to check whether the data connection actually working and I'm able to access the internet or not because that's the only way to find whether someone can call me or not!
How do I fix this? I'm having my exams now and I don't have time to setup my phone again by changing ROMs!
Please tell me a way to fix this without changing my ROM!
I'm on Android 4.3 Stock ROM.

Could be to do with the EFS partition. 4.3 uses a different version and apparently problems can occur when trying to revert to an earlier version. As far as I have read elsewhere, the problem can be verified by checking the IMEI number in settings - if it is all zeros it has been corrupted and will cause what you describe. I'm afraid I don't have a solution but hopefully this info might help you move a bit closer to one.
Another SlimKat question. According to battery stats, it seems that my wi-fi is always on. I've used 3g only since last charge and wi-fi is off in settings. Can it be helped somehow? Screenshot attached.

Step-by-step procedure to flash Revolutionary HD ROM to Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300

Hi All,
I successfully root my Samsung Galaxy S3 I-9300 (UK version) last week, now I am trying to install a ROM (based on your reviews I'm going to try the Revolutionary HD), but I couldn't find detailed instructions on how to do it for this phone. I did this process few years ago with my HTC desire, so I'm not totally ignorant of the process. I reviewed the "[Q] Safe Guide to Root and Add Custom best ROM to Samsung Galaxy S3 GT19300 unrooted" but it looks to me that it is developed for Nexus and other phones (the main procedure with no doubt is very similar for sure), but would it be possible to have a detailed procedure for this phone? Starting from what software should I use to do which backups before proceeding.
Apologies if this had been already explained somewhere in this site, maybe I'm just too tired today, but I couldn't find it.
Warmest regards!
Pegaso
Did you mean Revolution HD?
Found this step by step: Install Android Revolution HD v40.0 on Galaxy S3 I9300 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Custom ROM.]]
But you should install the latest: [ROM] Android Revolution HD 52.0.
And I would use TWRP instead of CWM - TWRP I9300.
Or at least PhilZ - [i930x][CWM Advanced Edition] PhilZ Touch. It is not being maintained anymore but will work well for now,
How to verify partition location for TWRP
Segio,
Thanks for your quick response.
I used TWRP instead of CWM as you suggested, installed & run the app following the instructions in:
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/114
after selecting the phone model some files are downloaded and then I get the following message from TWRP: "Ensure the partition listed below is the correct one for your device. If you do not verify this then you risk bricking....../dev/block/mmcblk0p6" No / Yes
How can I verify that? Is it safe to proceed?
Warmest regards
Done!
Sergio,
Thanks!, with your help I was able to figure out how to install Revolution HD in my Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300.
It looks great!
Thanks again!

Sure!
But for the time being I need to figure out how to root & install a ROM (stock-like) to my wife's Samsung Galaxy 4, she's complaining that it is going slowly. I'll take a look soon.
Just by chance, can you direct me to a tutorial to support that model? We got it in UK, so it is probably the international version of it, need to check though, but what ROM would you recommend? I saw in the forum that Revolution HD its not even mentioned (does it support that model at all?!)
Warmest regards!

Hi All!
Few hours after installing Revolution HD my phone lost the ability of making calls! (quite annoying!), the calls just drop few seconds after hitting the "send" key, no income calls either. Any clues? Please anyone...
Rgds!
Pegaso
Quick update,
I flashed again the ROM, but this time I didn't select the options to make it extra-fast (don't remember the screen name, but it was the only one where you have the chance of making choices) and now it resurrected! I can make & receive calls (for the time being!).
I'll be bothering soon anyway to install other ROMs (AOSP NeatROM seems nice).
By the way, and just if it easy to explain... why do you guys talk of "internal" and "external" microSD cards? As far as I understand there is one slot for mSD cards and I always understand that this is called "external", is there a part of the internal memory of the phone that acts like a "inetrnal" mSD card? If that's the case how to I locate it?
I hope this will just take a brief explanation...
Warmest regards!
Internal SD is a partition of internal memory where data as photos, maps, screenshots, etc are kept. Some apps store backups and large data there.
It will survive a "wipe data" but will not survive a "factory reset".
Double check your S 4 model before flashing, but it is probably a GT-I9505 (international Version).
If you want to keep samsung touchwiz flash [ROM][KitKat][12/09][GNH7 V3.1] WanamLite Fast & Clean.
Or go directy to an AOSP rom: [ROM] SlimSaberKat-jflte-4.4.4-20140921 [unofficial SlimKat builds] for jflte.

Sergio,
Quick update. I was able to re-stock to the original Samsung firmware using ODIN, so I recovered full functionality.
I can confirm that the model is S3 I9300.
Made a backup using TWRP
I realized that I flashed the wrong (or at least out-dated) version of Revolution HD, I got the one you suggested above:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-android-revolution-hd-52-0-android-t1797334
But when flashing it the MD5 sum check failed. I downloaded it again but same results.
Any clues?
