By stock do you mean the stock Amazon OS photo app or Google's stock Android photo app? This is the Amazon photo app (Gallery2.apk). It goes in "/system/app/" on your Kindle. This is from 7.4.6 for the Kindle Fire HD.

Nook Color Reader app

Is it possible to pull the stock Nook Reader app off of the Nook Color and install it on another android device (like an Archos 70)? If someone could try and back it up off of the Nook Color, I would love to try this on my Archos. It would be nice to be able to get Nook kids and Nook Newsstand items.
Nook has their own Android app. Does it not offer magazines on it? I don't know the answer to be honest. I know Amazon does on it's Kindle app.
The B&N "software" reader for Android doesn't do Nook Kids, Newsstand, or Magazines. There are also weird bugs with changing display settings (font, margins etc.) - it doesn't work. I'd LOVE to get the stock reader app running on CM7...
EDIT: I discovered (after reading this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976270) that dropping the fonts from a stock ROM into CM7's '/system/fonts' directory will make them available to the Nook app. MUCH better now.

Thanks for the info. I am on Phiremod vs 6 CM 7 ROM on my NC. I don't have a backup of the stock.
Can you please help with any possible way of getting the fonts from the stock ROM?
The thing I miss from the Android Nook app vs Stock APP is -
* Android app does not display covers of sideloaded books.
* Android app does not have the margin settings of the stock app
* Android app has less font and background choices.
Any luck on the OEM App?? I figured by now someone would have it.
It is odd, I was wondering about going the other way.
-Android app has real page turns
-Android app has actual black background/white text.
-Android app has more font face options.
Anyway, interesting observations. I did try a while ago to pull the crossword app, but it was a nogo. If you are going to try, remember that the OEM apps on the nook color live in /System/app/ not /data/app/ I do not htink they will work anywhere else.

Honestly I wanted to be able to still use some of the kids features.

I know that this was old, but I ran a Titanium Backup on my Nook Tablet before I flashed to the newest CM7, and I was able to use Titanium to restore the crossword app, and it works without any problems.

I don't know if you found your answer, but you can download the original stock rom from: http://devftp.xda-developers.com/files/AdamOutler/NookTablet/acclaim_update.zip
After downloading the file, extract the /system/fonts directory from the zip file to anywhere on your drive you can remember. Open a command window, and using ADB (which I hope you have installed) copy the fonts to the system folder by typing in:
Code:
adb kill-server
adb wait-for-device
adb devices (makes sure your device is connected)
adb remount (remounts the /system folder as rw)
adb push fonts/ /system/fonts
That should copy all stock fonts to the /system/fonts folder.

Someone at Anime News Network that submitted for the beta test of the new B&N Android app was told:
We invite you to test our latest NOOK for Android 3.1 release.
We are excited to announce that we have brought our NOOK Comics catalog to Android Tablets. You can now enjoy reading more than 650 comics, graphic novels and manga from Marvel, Archie, Viz and more on your Android Tablet (OS version 2.2+).
You can get started reading any of these NOOK Comics by going to the Shop and browsing the Comics & Graphic Novels->NOOK Comics subcategory in the Books browse menu.

Since the Nook Comics capability was new to NC1.4 / NT1.4, I'd assume that this new Android app will be able to buy and read any of B&N's special content.
If its a general 2.2+ "Tablet" app ... that ought to run on Nook Color with an alternative ROM.

Amazon Video APK

The Amazon Instant Video APK has been pulled from the Kindle Fire and can be installed on the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
A couple of caveats:
(1) To use the Prime Instant video features, you must first purchase something to login. There is no separate login otherwise.
(2) It appears to only work over wifi
(3) If your device is rooted, it will not work.

It FC's on me on my Tab 7 plus when I try to purchase.
am getting FCs', was able to login. non rooted 10.1 w/o latest patch.
Google I/O 10.1 Galaxy Tab
It installed and works fine, however every time I click on a video free or paid, I get a FC.
Has anyone found a work around?
same thing for me: installs fine b FC's wh I try to click a free or paid vid.
Same here on Toshiba Thrive. Installs fine, but fc on purchase.

Umm...for the simple fact that you can use Voodoo OTA temp unroot from the Market. Also the new version of this APK in todays 6.2 update doesnt work. It says this device is not suppose to be able to run Amazon Video Player.

Never heard of temp unroot, thanks, but yeah, as of late, amazon released a fire update, ruining everyones root on the fire and deleting the market. Probably part of that updated.
Pr0tip: This works on Gingerbread but not on HoneyComb.
Bunch of hypocrites, they sell root only apps
http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/some_amazon_appstore_apps_require_rooting_att_need_not_apply/
installs and runs great on hp touchpad. however on purchase and login i get the following: Error linking device: Unknown error
What do you mean it runs great? I get to the point of seeing the button to play the video, but it is grayed out. I can play Amazon videos fine on my Exhibit II by temporarily unrooting the stock OS. It seems Cyanogenmod is somehow detected, because it doesn't work on my Nook Color with the Cyanogenmod either.

whoever wrote this article obviously has never had the balls to root a device and actually see what is possible, or even research it for that matter
I have the apk that allows me to play the videos for free that come with the amazon prime account (I signed up for a free month), but I don't see how to 'borrow' a book for free - this also comes with the prime account on kindle devices. Anyone have any information on how to do this on a Galaxy Tab?
Only Kindle devices can borrow books for free with the Prime membership. (you borrow directly from the device)
Two things. One KFHD looks for the device to be logged into amazon, I bet this requires framework not on our devices. Two, probably crashes when trying to view due to same.
Bottom line? Besides logcats to figure things out, I'm pretty sure a system dump will be needed to get the correct files to go with this......

You don't need to temp in root either. There's an xposed module called root cloak that let's you pick specific apps to hide root from. Works great

Have you tried quickpic? its free in the market. I LOVE it and never ran into any issues what so ever.
I tried quickpic but i couldnt find any option to view photos from dropbox. Samething with fish bowl.
Does this really not exist? I am looking for a sollution where photos are located on Dropbox or Google Drive.
I think the thing is that pics stored on g drive or dropbox aren't actually on your phone unless you export them to your sdcard.
Although it would be pretty sweet to have a gallery app link to those accounts/apps I wonder if the issue is actually the available api's?

anyone has the same problem?
This is by miles the best ebook app on Android, presentation wise at least. It replicates the sensation of reading a real book rather well. No other ebook readers on Google Play can even hold a candle to Samsung's in-house ebook reader.
we should give out a rewards if anyone make it work without stock ICS ROM or TW. What I meant if running pure ICS ROM (CM9) or JB.
so far it does installs, but always crashes when you tried import.
It is not bad but it is not my preferred reader app. There is no way to disable page flip animations. There is no way to set a default font size. The minimum font size is too large for my liking.
Hello
It works on a P5100 but a question. How can I reset (clear) the bookmarks?
Thanks in advance,

The simple answer is No. You need to use Samsung stock ICS or with Touch Wiz. the book reader needs Samsung's frame work
If this answer helps Please click my Thanks button.

Technically this is correct and incorrect.
The app itself will work but you need Samsung's MyFiles app to import books into the ebook app, which runs off the TouchWizUX framework.
If somebody could find a way to get MyFiles to work outside TouchWiz, then in theory it should work perfectly.
Thanks for the link, i will try this
Is it even possible to install this on a galaxy s3 non-rooted? And if yes, somebody could explain? Thanks in afvancd

Here is a page describing how to remove the dependencies on TouchWiz: Link
I would try it but I've tried many times to decompile and recompile ICS apps with no success.
My advice to anyone is to get My Files working out of touchwiz, then ebooks would work by default.
This app works on my nexus 7 running non touchwiz framework.tho clicking on import causes it to crash
It's possible to use ebook without touchwizz fw.
Import does not work but if you open the epub file with a file browser, it does not crash.
thank you very much. i am able to install and it is working perfectly well. BTW i am running toldo jellybean rom ics v6

SlingBox PLayer for Shield TV

Anyone have SlingBox Player sideloaded yet? How does it perform? Does one have to root to sideload? Thanks in advance!

No root, if you are running on stock OS you need to sideload the tablet version because (at least in my case) the phone app won't show the remote button. Performance is very much ok
The FireTV version of the Slingbox player works the best IMHO because it supports full functionality of the Shield remotes and does not require use of the virtual remote the way that the Phone and Tablet apps do. My guess is because it was designed for a non-touch screen interface. It can be tricky to acquire but I side-loaded that apk and it works great at home and in the car. Just a suggestion!

Ya same question...i tried to run the firetv apk pulled straight from the unit...would not start.
OMG i take it back...i guess something changed in the Nvidia shield code or on the back end of the app because i installed the version of slingplayer for firetv i have and it worked! loaded up just fine.
Have to do more testing but very nice stuff!
Anyone got a link to the Slingbox apk please?
Here are 3 versions, I have one that is untouched, one that has the amazon dependency removed, and one that has the amazon dependency removed and leanback code added. I still can't figure out what isn't loading properly at launch to handle the login process. I think amazon might have a deeper integration blocking the app from fully loading.

Are you using one of the apks that I posted? Also what setup do you have, I'm running lollipop and all I get is a blank screen.
No I got mine when I pulled it from my mother's fire stick. My version does not have the _63 after it. I'm running marshmallow but it worked on lollipop also.

none of the attached apks work, anyone else got the Fire TV version working? (who doesn't currently own a fire TV)
I'm also looking for a working version of SlingPlayer for the shield tv. I don't have an amazon fire I tried all the attached apk's and none worked. I'm able to install them all and the versions in first link crash after logging in and trying to watch. The other version by Jerlash says I'm not the owner of the app so can't use it. The tablet version works decently but only with mouse and keyboard and when viewing the remote it only shows the top half of it.
Yeah there hasn't been a solid solution as of yet. The native Fire TV apk crashes after logging in, my hacked versions have this same issue.
Any news on this?
Any news?
this is kinda ridiculous and likely being held back to promote the abysmal Sling TV offering
Just so everyone is aware i got the to install and run on my shield tv but it would not show any video...just crash. it is silly that an android app built from the amazon fire tv that would clearly work on this box is blocked by some hooks in the apk... hope they release an app soon or i may just pickup a cheap fire stick just for sling
Now they removed the ability to cast from my phone to Android TV, I f*cking hate sling!
