I will start by saying I've never done any updating, rooting, unlocking, etc on any Android device. I used to do some with Blackberry but I've just stayed stock with my Android devices.
I'm currently using the HTC Droid DNA and I chatted online today with an HTC support person regarding my issues. I bought my phone from an individual last year and apparently he must have unlocked the bootloader. I'm running Android Version 4.1.1 and my software # is 1.15.605.4 701RD. Apparently I've missed the last 2 updates and I don't have the option from my phone to manually check for updates. Based on my chat today with HTC there's nowhere online they will allow me to download the updates. They mentioned taking it to a Verizon store but I don't want to do that. I would really like to be able to get the newest software version. Can anyone help me get the newest updates?

If it's rooted, install flash image gui from play store, install twrp recovery and then flash santod040's stock rom, to bring your phone to the latest stuff

Now first thing first. Try a factory reset.. backup your data first. If that doesn't fix the issue comment and Ill tell you what to do next.
Are you trying to be on the latest firmware as it comes from HTC (Stock), or the latest firmware modified with custom options and tweaks as in a custom ROM?

Hey guys, I followed one of the tutorials on how to unroot your EVO 3D and bring it back to stock. Before I unrooted my phone, I kept getting a notification that an OTA update was available, specifically version 2.08.651.2 (August 18, 2011). Right now, my software number is 1.11.651.2. I want to update to the newer version, but when I go to Settings > System updates > HTC software update > Check now, it shows no updates are available. I've tried rebooting the phone and checking repeatedly. I'm kinda lost here and not sure what to do. I was wondering if the PG86IMG I downloaded to return to stock disabled OTA updates, but I highly doubt that since it's just a stock image. If I could find a download link to the updates, I could apply them manually through the bootloader. If not, I might suck it up and take my phone into Sprint and get them to see what's up and update my phone there. Either way, what do you think I should do? I want it updated though. Thanks in advance.
so u unrooted using the approved method and then tried to update to 2.3.4 via HTC but it would'nt find the update? Just wanna make sure u know that if u take this update ur only option is to root via HTC's unlocked bootloader which isn't a true unlock... secondly if that is ur desire and the stock image won't find the update then i would check ur source and make sure it's not missing something. I turned off my update check cuz once it checks and finds an update that little icon stays in ur taskbar unless u factory reset and i was waiting to root with teamwin's method so i didn't take the update. if i knew how to pull the image without updating id post it for ya...
Yes sir! I understand that updating my software to version 2.8.651.2 will prevent my phone from being rootable until somebody figures out a method to make it rootable. I have no need for rooting my phone actually. I tried out a few roms, and I would rather stick with a stock unrooted rom in case I ever need to take my phone into Sprint for service. The Sprint store where I live won't do any service to a rooted phone, so I need to be on the safe side. I went to the store today, and unfortunately the only people available at the time were sales representatives, so they were of no help. They just told me to wait and keep trying to update the phone periodically. If it doesn't show any updates within the next month, my only choices will be to either call Sprint and see if they can push the update to my phone or find an update image, transfer it to my phone, and manually update it through the bootloader. I also read on an EVO 4G thread that the phone won't update if it's missing SprintUpdater.apk. I doubt a stock rom would be missing that app though. I had the update notification when I was rooted, but I didn't download it because it would break my root, and now that I'm completely back to stock, I should get the notification. What gives? I wish Sprint would send out the updates all at once instead of in waves. Anybody wanna chime in?

Having the same problem. But i havent tried unrooting the phone.
I have rooted HTC One, I noticed a new software update was released by AT&T, and I wondered if it I updated it, would my root be gone? I tried to update it and after downloading the update, my phone restarted and booted into TWRP recovery and I rebooted and there was no update installed. Are any rooted HTC One users experiencing the same problem? What should I do, should i just forget about the OTA updates?

Anytime you root the phone it changes the stock recovery so when the OTA tries to run it fails because the recovery needed to do it is the stock one. Just wait for someone to post a updated ota that works with twrp.
For the most part, updates will be baked into roms so you won't need to take the OTA

On top of stock recovery, you need to have all stock apps present on the phone. They can be frozen, but they must be there. The first thing any official OTA does it check the signatures of all .apks it expects to find on the device--if any are missing, the update will abort. I learned today that when you unlock your bootloader, several HTC-specific applications are automatically deleted from the phone and this will prevent the phone from accepting the OTA. You'll need to either A) replace those apks, or B) flash a stock NAND backup, flash stock recovery, do the update, then re-flash custom recovery and continue on from there.

I installed it and it worked great. I have a unlocked bootloader but I am not rooted.
AT&T update file name and location?
Same experience. If I knew the location and file downloaded through AT&T Software Update, perhaps I could install it through TWRP. Anyone know? Tried?

Please...a little advice
Many thanks for all your help.
One question:
I have an HTC One (ATT) - SW Ver 1.26.502.10, bootloader unlocked, rooted, bloatware erased.
If I flash CM 10.1 - does this include the latest OTA update.
Many thanks
[I will not have access to my home computer for a while... obviously would be much easier just seeing stuff on there]
I recently fouled things up with my phone and just decided to start over. I thought I flashed fireball 2.17... with the latest stock Sense 4.1, but I recently noticed that if I went to software update, I was asked if I wanted the 2.17.605.2 OTA update from last fall.
I did try to install it to see what would happen and it did not complete -- when it tried to reboot my phone, it launched straight into my recovery (TWRP) and from there I did a regular system reset and was back to my phone with the update still not having run.
Anyway, now I'm confused. Am I correct that this image and this image do not seem to match up? In other words, how do I have global mode in Sense 4.0??
Or is there a ROM out there that I could have flashed that would account for this?
Honestly, I don't even care that much about 4.0 vs. 4.1. And I only rooted my phone in the first place so I could make a few minor tweaks like the three button remap, etc. Mainly I just want to make sure I'm really still getting whatever supposed "improved LTE and wi-fi connectivity" benefit came with the OTA upgrade to 4.1 last fall.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks...

No takers on this?
Maybe it's just too stupid. But I still don't get why I have global mode in what apparently looks like Sense 4.0.
How did you flash this?, I mean what method did you use to go back like you said, I can imagine you flashed the 4.0.3 ruu and then received the update then failed

Did not use ruu.
Pretty sure this is what I flashed -- http://d-h.st/trx -- I checked and still have that zip sitting in my "Android-stuff" folder on my desktop.
Also pretty sure I had global mode immediately after flashing (I noticed the global setting available that day while getting all my preferences reset and before I had even noticed the available OTA or attempted to let it run).

Is global mode not supposed to be in 4.0? Possibly a dumb question but just asking... And I got a new device off of warranty replacement and it is completely stock. Haven't messed with anything yet, just disabled pointless apps that I will not be using yet. It does have Global Mode. When my LTE wasn't working for quite sometime, I had called Verizon and told them "what happened' and they used it to update my PRL. Anyway on topic, I think global mode is officially from Verizon.

When the phone first came out last summer, it shipped with Sense 4.0 / Android 4.03 (without global mode available even though the phone was technically capable).
Verizon / HTC pushed an OTA update about four months later that upgraded phones to Sense 4.1 / Android 4.04 (with global mode available).
Not sure if they ship with the upgrade already running now or whether they still ship with original build and then receive the OTA shortly after activation.

Ahh okay.
Simply revert to a system only restore in recovery.
Once booted into bare stock, go to mobile network settings and select LTE option.

I just received a notice from Verizonwireless that there is a new software update available. So I went ahead and downloaded the update and attempted to install it. After a few seconds a new window opened showing the stupid Android robot laying on its back and the word "error" displayed. Thinking something bogus is going on with my phone I did a factory erase and retried the software update - same results.
Any way to determine what the error is and correct it so I can do the SW update? Out of curiosity I tried using ClockworkMod Rom Manager to install a custom ROM but got the same error indication.
My phone is a Verizon Galaxy S4 with Andriod version 4.3. The baseband version is I545VRUEMK2.
Thanks.

Sounds like your phone has been rooted / modified. This would be why. Samsung + VZW conspire to make it a mess to update officially when you have modded the phone. Just install the update via the PC and Odin. It is more reliable anyway than OTAs. If there is not an official 4.4 Odin version yet, then install the MK2 update that way and then factory reset then take the OTA.
But sounds like you really aren't sure what you are doing because you should NOT be attempting to use ClockWorkMod Rom Manager on a Verizon S4 with that update!! With the whole locked bootloader fiasco, this operation is not permitted as you can only use the SafeStrap recovery system to load custom roms. Really have to read up some more before you get your phone into a situation it might not find it's way out of...

Hi es0tericcha0s - Thanks for pointing out that Rom Manager shouldn't be used on a VZW Galaxy S4. I knew that but totally forgot about that fact.

You're welcome. What you need is here:
http://nasirtech.blogspot.com/2014/04/i545vrufnc5-android-442-kitkat-firmware.html
Or a 100 other places, but that one came up first.
I also find it best to factory reset after the update for best results.
So I have a rooted One M8 with TWRP recovery running 4.4.2. Recently an update came through for 4.4.3, to get rid of the notification I froze the updater. Now for the purpose of getting Viper One, I need 4.4.3. But when I press software updates it says 'There are no software updates avalible for your phone'. But there was prior to freezing the updater. Help me :silly:
(PS. Apologies if this thread is poorly located)

Hey thanks for the reply but I don't think my problem is that complicated, is there anything you could recommend? The option to update was available until I froze the updater, now it's not.

I gave you a direct link from the rom you are trying to install that tells you what needs to be done. Not sure what else you would need. If you aren't getting prompts to update via OTA, there's 2 ways to update the firmware needed. Either via the official RUU for your phone and carrier (which probably isn't even available yet)or via a firmware package that's flashable via fastboot but you must be S-Off. Sometimes you can force the phone to check for updates by clearing the Google Services Framework, but this is not advised as it can have unintended consequences with how Google sees the phone and sends notifications and such. Plus just because there IS an available update does not mean you're next in line. Many carriers have staged roll outs and it'll get there when it gets there.
If it's too difficult for you then you either shouldn't be messing with custom roms or seek help from a qualified shop.

Thank you, the problem did however solve it's self. It turns out OTA updates are queued and by freezing the app I had reset my position. The update is now available.
I'm going to flash a stock recovery and update the firmware.
