[Q] noob question - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I have a question which I have been searching the Internet for and have had no luck. So I was wondering if someone could help me.
My question is to with factory software. As my Samsung note 3 (9005) runs the Samsung touchwiz ui, could I if I rooted my phone run the stock 4.4 from the nexus 5? As I say I am a noob to this and from what I understand android is open source software so if this is the case why couldn't I do this?
Any response is a great help to me understand androids os.
Thanks

Nope, the Stock 4.4 Rom of the N5 won't run on your phone.
It is not that eaaaaasy...
But (!), you can easily head over here to start looking for some custom roms that are close to stock android

But before you do anything, always make a backup and read some guides carefully or your phone will may end up bricked.
Btw, if you just dont like the Touchwizz Launcher, try Nova Launcher

[Q] ICS default Stock UI on Galaxy S2, Is it possible, How ?

Hi All,
I am new to this forum and also to this Smartphone world
I am planning to buy Galaxy S2 , but want to use ICS Stock UI ( I can wait for official ICS update or use some ICS ROM ) , but what I want to know is that how can I use default ICS Stock UI on my Galaxy S2.
And another question when we use unofficial ROM on our Android phone , what are the risks we should consider in terms of our personal data security and also the stability of our phone ?
Thanks,
Maverick

If you do some reading around the SGS2 forum, you'll find all of the information you seek. Or you could try google...either way, the powers that be here at XDA aren't very friendly to those who don't bother trying to research, read, or use the search function. I'm trying to be a bit more personable.
At the moment, ICS is in either the Alpha or Beta stage...meaning that it's still buggy and doesn't really function as a daily driver yet.
To get ICS right now, you have to flash a ROM...which involves root access. The risks are pretty high. You have the risk of bricking your phone, if you don't read the instructions and follow them exactly, which isn't always easy because you're not very likely to find exact instructions for your specific phone (the hardware specs will match, but the ROM/Radio/Modem numbers may be different which can lead to confusion). You also run the risk of voiding your warranty, which is a pretty significant one.
I flashed an ICS build yesterday, and then my S2 wouldn't charge. I eventually flashed back (thank God I had made a backup yesterday, and 2 days ago as the one from yesterday didn't work!)
As far as security goes, nothing really to worry about. Dev's don't build in Carrier IQ and don't really want your personal data. But the flip side is, that they don't get paid for what they do...so if you have a problem or 'eff something up, you're pretty much on your own. You can ask for help, but again, sometimes the dev's don't want to be bothered with a question if it's already been answered or if you could've found the answer by searching for it. This is where it gets rude, sometimes.
That's the long answer. The short answer is READ, READ, READ...everything about your phone and flashing ROM's. Start at the beginning of the forum, as that's where the 'stickies' are and work your way thru. ICS will be released officially and stably later.
Hope that helps.
Thanks ,
I have googled it and read some threads on this forum and on others as well... thats how I came to know that you can root your phone with unofficial ICS ROM... but wasn't sure that in that case , will I get ICS with TouchWiz or Stock UI...
And 2nd thing that if I screwed up what will happen to my personal data...
anyhow thanks for replying my (dumb ? ) question

Hello. and welcome! You must be new here.
Here's what we know so far: Our device is unbrickable! No matter what we do, we cannot brick it. Bad side, we have no CWM or stock recovery. It's being worked on, but will take a while. So sit back, and relax, wait for the devs to get custom roms available. Or, help out.
Either way, start by rooting your device.
Glad to see the SGP community growing!
Like you I have searched and searched and I have found no "Cool Roms" that work with this player. I have found that most people who flash something other than the stock rom or official upgrade on their player have problems of one type or another. As far as I can tell there is little development and support for this device from the community, which is a shame cause I really like my player! I've never done any android development but I have some plans in the works.
It's important to know exactly which model you have. There are alot of players out there that report to be the YP-G70 but they are not created equal.
I have created a map of the partitions on the player and it should be possible to back up the stock firmware. The process of dumping your current firmware is not exactly "n00b" friendly.
Here is the writeup I did about the partitions map. Hope this answers your question

ya i have the YP-G70 but ill just have to wait until someone works on some cool roms for the player but thanks for the info

[Q] Advice on rooting Galaxy Wifi 5 player (UK): Process & stable rom

hi.
not sure if this is the best place to ask but I thought I'd try; can anyone advise on the most up to date and stable rom available for the Galaxy Wifi 5 (UK)? I'm trying to root my Wifi 5 in order to install more recent software. I'm currently stuck on 2.2.2 (!)
I'd ask about a simple safe way to root as well but I'm hoping that the quagmire of information culled from the fora so far will serve me in good stead.
I have tried searching the various forums but frankly there's a hell of a lot and most of it seems overly complicated sometimes confusing and contradictory....
If this isn't the right place please let me know and I'll ask elsewhere.
Alternatively if you can advise on an alternative Android powered portable music hardware device even better
If you want stock ROM with little modification you can get the latest European here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446774
They're already rooted.
About another Android player, well... Philips has one but with no camera.

Galaxy s3 GT-i9300

Hey guys
First of all, iphone was the first smartphone i've ever used
but for some reasons i had to use another smart phone >> Galaxy s3 GT-i9300 (Android version 4.3)
but i have a huge lag in opening and closing applications ,something like overloading the rams
i've tried Factory reset but the problem begins again after i dowload 5 apps
after search found someone like making custom software of android
ROM-Cyngon i don't even understand this thing
but some ppl say you have to pick the most suitable rom for your device to be much faster than brand new
so if anyone can help me with this problem would be appreciated
Sorry for my bad English
Thanks in advance
@Madoxv:
1. The easy way without installing anything: in settings ..apps ..all you can freeze apps, you don't use. Delete their data, too. Use xda-search-function to get a list of freezable apps.
2. More effective is to root your phone and flash a lite ROM. But before you do this, read. Otherwise you probably make a brick. Search-function again:
'How to root S3' and 'How to flash ROM S3'.
If you want full support for camera, wifi and sensors, use a ROM, based on firmware (Touchwiz). CyanogenMod or AOSP-ROMs don't.

Pentagram Tab 8.5

Hello,
I have an old Pentagram Tab 8.5. It's on android 4.1.1. I'd like to flash it with cyanogenmod 12 or something that it is capable of running becouse this os gets slow really fast and is uncomfortable in use.

Can someone experienced advise me what i can do, which tools to use etc ? I have flashed my phone many times so i shouldnt have problems when redirected to proper tutorial or something like that.
