What im looking for is something like the youtube app . when you are in the internet browser , and you click on a youtube video , the youtube app opens and plays the video you clicked .
Well when i'm on my anime sites , i would love for an app to open up and play those videos i clicked in a much nicer UI as its hard to seek and pause when you have to press the tiny scroller and tiny pause button .

So I have MX Video player installed and where I could I set it as the default video app player. However when in the standard browser or even in Chrome browser when clicking a video it still plays using the native video player on the GS4. I downloaded a tool to tell me what all of my defaults are and I cannot find anything else so I'm lost at the moment. Is there a way to override the "built-in" video player when in a browser so I can use MX instead? I am unrooted, stock on the Verizon GS4 16GB and have the ME7 update installed via Kies. TIA for any help.
Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Bump
Just took the DMI1 update and still I cannot get MX to be the default video player for some websites. Anyone know a way to disable the built-in video player that launches by default? What's the app's name and location and can I disable it? Thanks.
Settings, More, Apps, All, find Video Player. In the Video Player App Info page scroll down and tap Clear Defaults.
Now you'll be prompted next time you open a video asking which player to use.

Yeah, I checked that a long time ago. Both Video and Video Player, the purple circle with white triangle are not showing as default - they are both greyed out. That's what is so strange about this. Can't put my finger on it.
I went to apps, show all apps incl. system and searched for 'player' then I'd found some unknown player (can't recall its name); I'd uninstalled it and videos played well back again from Telegram. Weird.
If some one got working youtube app with hd videos working please share,
I using Boat browser (and flash player on) but in "desktop mode" on YT site some videos works and some don't
mabe someone got mod hd YT app working on Gpad
Thanks
With root and titanium backup, I just removed the youtube app that comes with stock.
After that I was able to reinstall youtoube from the playstore, choosing version 5.3
That version plays everything perfectly in HD.

Ok, thanks for the Info I'll check that
Update,
I don't know what is it but when I play video on that Youtube app (v5.3) when I choice HD (and I know in desktop is REAL HD) is streaming poor quality like I don't know... VGA maybe
from CC to HQ is like from very poor quality to poor quality so that was not my point. I want to play 720p or 1080p videos like on desktop
Strange, because I do get pretty good quality, definitely HD (by youtube standards).
Either install flash player and firefox, or dolphin browser and dolphin jetpack or install viral youtube app. Take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579795

The viral floating youtube app doesnt support 480p or 1080p because google splits the streams in to. 720p works flawless and it hasnt any great difference with 1080p.
I forgot to ask you what version of android you have, if you have 4.2 jelly bean then adobe's flash player should work with every browser that supports flash playback (like firefox or dolphin). If you re on 4.4 kitkat though you need the hacked flash player as google removed from 4.4 some critical files that the flash player needed.

Yes i have 4.4 CM11 , like I wroted up, the haked flash work like a charm, but I switch to Dolphin browser because Boat browser do not played all hd videos on YT like I was thinking, but Dolphin does. Overall I think that Boat is beter browser than dolphin, faster, lighter and smoother but is something for something, haked flash player support Dolphin and is somthing in that flash code because videos that I can't watch on Boat are smooth playable on Dolphin.

I use firefox as a browser and if i want to watch youtube videos i switch to dolphin. Dolphin is not bad at all, its the only browser at the moment which can play flash videos in 4.4 kitkat with satisfactory results and supports plugins just like firefox.
Try Og YouTube from XDA. It's a modified Youtube APK.
There you can select the resolution like you do in the webplayer.
I'm running it and it works fine.
The only issue is, that you can't log in with your Google account.

Give viral a try. See sig
Use Flashfox or Firefox and download an add-on called youtube center.
For now I using Dolphin with jetpack and moded fplayer, and YT works like on PC no problem with 720/1080p
I dont really get it , why from the first place google messed up the resolutions.
Seriously... Why is this even a problem. Videos from the YouTube app look terrible. Sucks that we have to find a workaround.

I downloaded an older version of YouTube, 4.4 something and it shows HD videos fine.

Hi,
for some time now basically all browsers switched to integrated video playback and I hate it.
The integrated player is simply said pure ****. Is there a way to disable the HTML5 player and open all videos in websites in a player app (e.g. MX Player)? I watch videos in fullscreen anyway so there is no problem with an app opening instead of this laggy **** player. (Also MX Player can run in Background while playing Youtube for example).

If it's an embedded Youtube video and you have the Youtube app, you can click on the link on the top portion of the video (or click on the Youtube logo) and it will open in the app.
Yeah, but it's not only about YouTube. A lot of news sites I regularly visit have their own videos.
Hi Folks,
This is really got me
I've come from a HTC M7 to a Oneplus 3. The in-browser video on the HTC M7 was great - you were able to control brightness, control the sound and search through the video all via screen gestures. Since moving to the OP3 it has a standard video player that has none of those features. You have to use the old school controls of the video menu bar - there's no gesture control.
I've downloaded MX and VLC but they're only good as standalone players - to play stored content.
It loads the same player on both browsers, Chrome and Dolphin... and it loads the same video player on the HTC :good: and the same player on the OP3
I've tried resetting default apps. I've looked in the App settings but I can't work what app it is that's streams within the browser? Is it part of the OS?
Thank you in advance!
The only thing I've found on this... If you're watching in Firefox, you can tap on the video and it gives you the option to watch it on MX Player... but there's no way to set this as a default?

Try clearing the stock "Video Player" apps' defaults in its info page in settings>apps

There's no stock video player listed under apps, well there is, but that's for stand alone saved videos. I got in touch with Oneplus today and they said there's no option to choose within the browser... The guy said that I should suggest it for an update, which I did.
Firefox does let you press on the video and choose to open it in MX, but there's no way to set that as a default... Has to be done each time - bit of a pain.

Tried that too and it didn't work. Thanks for your replies :good:
I'm going to try another ROM (Resurrection) for now anyway, hopefully there won't be an issue :good:
