Samsung Galaxy S III GT-I9300
i have updated to 4.3.2 and the problem started prior to it was working fine with ICS 4.0
i am able to search the network and it also register it , if i select it manually still on the notification bar it shows selected network is not available
i took the efs backup after flashing it , but it does't get corrupted i believe , but when i try to extract it in the recovery mode it show signature verification failed
i think my efs backup is not corrupted and it is intact but i am not sure...
i have downloaded Galaxsim Unlock after i flash the new rom and try to backup it says
"efs backup failed.stopping here to prevent eventual errors"
i downloaded HexEditor and it show the files in efs folder
i have tried with efs professional software and it backup the efs.img file in the pc , when i opened it it is empty
i don't think my efs backup is corrupt
but not able to fix "Not Registered on network"
please assist
i am attaching the images would request to to please check so you can find ,where is the problem actually
i also found that every time i updated different JB 4.3.2 ROM the last two digits of the IMEI of my mobile changes from /01 to /11

[Q] Backup of EFS Folder - No IMEI/ Baseband

I have GS3 i9300 International version.
My EFS partition has been corrupted.
I already have the backup available i took with EFS backup pro but when i now connect through it it doesn't pick it up even though i have put it in the same directory.
I also tried to backup the existing EFS folder (Which doesn't have anything in it) using Root Explorer in Phone but got an error 'Can't locate Mount Point!"
How can i restore my EFS folder again? Any suggestion will be helpful as i have been trying to read all what is available at XDA.
There is no IMEI and baseband available. I had the stocked firmware when this happened with CF root and Siyak Kernel.
I have checked in CWM Recovery mode.
All partitions are mounted except EFS and i am not able to mount it even in recovery.
So after like 24 hrs, i am finally able to restore everything back to normal .
Since the efs partition was not mounting, i used the following commands to do so manually in terminal
Code:
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p3
mount -w -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 /efs
The link that helped me realize this was
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857811
After running this command i had signals and Wifi begins working but IMEI was turned to generic.
Then i turned to EFS bakup pro and this time successfully restored my efs folder and getting my origional IMEI back.
So all this taught me that flashing and tinkering with your android phone carries a huge risk and we should all be prepared to face such issues if decided to do so.
But really, what's the fun if we don't .
Following are some issues that i faced during this whole process which i am sharing if anybody else gets in the same situations
- The first thing i did was to flash the stock firmware but this lead to an unrooted phone again
- I used CF root to gain root privileges again but supersu was asking for binary updates before giving root permission to other programs.
- So i downloaded SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT which is an excellent resource for everything related to rooting, flashing and backing up GS3.
- I rooted with busybox so that EFS backup pro can be used.
- Since my GS3 was not having mobile or wifi signal, this toolkit helped a great deal.
- One small thing that i missed was place my EFS back in a folder named "EFSProBackup" which is to be placed in the same directory as the executable of EFS Pro so that it can recognize it in restoration tab.
I hope this will be helpful if anyone gets stuck in this issue.
Oh glad you resolved it
This shows how important an efs backup is

Thanks for dropping by bg
I had ruined my i9000 same way and used it for a year with generic imei. I had to copy paste the efs folder everytime i rebooted the phone. Now i am on i9100 but i havent yet backed up my efs, can you guide me how to do it?
Download EFS Pro from here EFS Pro.
Connect your phone with pc via USB and make sure you are not using USB Mass Storage mode.
Start EFS Pro. Obviously, you need to be rooted and have busybox installed for this application to run.
Your phone information will be displayed once it's connected.
Create a backup of your EFS Folder either with a .img or .tar extension.
And keep flashing hassle free .

Dear bala_gamer,
my name is gaurav.i've a gti9300 and l was on stock 4.1.2,i flashed resurrection remix rom and now i've following issues:-
1) BASEBAND VESRION-UNKNOWN
2)IMEI-UNKNOWN
3)MOBILE NETWORK-UNKNOWN
4)NO CALLS,no network although wifi is running smoothly and rest all is fine with the phone.i flashed back stock 4.1.2 and restored EFS via EFS PRO(which i had earlier taken backup on my pc) but the problem still remains although EFS PRO restore was successful
Further info:-
1)i can locate an EFS folder in the normal file manager which is empty
2)in the root explorer i can see an EFS folder with 18 files in it.
plz help thanks in advance, waiting for a quick response from your side
file manager shows empty because it is not operating with permissions to see it. This is not relevant.
use root explorer only
Just flash MG5 stock ROM from India. If it is still broken, send it for repair. Simple as that

Unable to mount efs dir??

Hi
After losing my imei because of cm10.1 install i tried to restore it through efsbackup pro - it mounted phone ok and started recovering imei from my backup img file, but at the end it said that this was an inproper backup and files dont work proper, and told me NOT to use them, but it auto rebooted before i could do any thing
and now its impossible to to delete/mount efs dir cant install new rom from cwm or odin only stock 4.04 installs ok but same problem persist no matter what if i try flashing newest stock rom 4.1.1 it wont write to nand - pit files from sammy site does the same no writing to nand
I have no imei and unable to format efs dir!! tried rooting it through galaxy 3 toolkit 6.0 and it workng ok i get root and recovery- but from here there no way to mount efs dir same says efsbackup pro when i try to recover/format efs
seems like its missing a pit file..or at least at total format of internal sd, but havent been able to do that until now!
Does anyone have a idea whats going on ? PLS help
Happy new year all

[Q] gti9300 efs problem

hi guys.
this is my first post. first off thanks to all of you out there who have helped me root 3 different devices and install custom roms on 2 of them.
my third device is my gti9300 phone.
i have rooted and installed twrp but before i install a custom rom i made a back up of my efs files using ktool. after backing up the files i ran the check.
under sdcard/efs.img found section everything checks out 100%
under sdcard/efs.tar.gz found i get the message /!\nv_data.bin NOT FOUND in back up!!!
in my files/device storage the files have been created
could any tell me if the back up i have created will work. dont want to flash a rom until i am sure
the phone works fine and the emei number appears as it should in the phones status menu
hope someone can help
thanks
If in doubt then make other backups, philz recovery custom backup, copy and paste efs contents etc.
You can't have too many backups of your efs, store them on your pc and cloud storage.
IMEI
More than one backup of EFS is best .Save one on your PC .
thanks for the advice guys.

[Q] No IMEI in my Galaxy Ace s5830i

Ok, I know there are questions related to this already out there, but I couldn't really find an answer.
I recently flashed my Galaxy Ace s5830i with Touchwiz Resurrected Rom v2.0 downloaded from xda forums.
All went well, except that the new ROM doesn't have its IMEI number. Dialling *#06# shows up an empty box.
The phone status in Settings shows up "Unknown" in IMEI number status. I am not able to call and send or receive text messages, but surprisingly the internet works. It shows the network provider name, the phone number, the band being used, but under "Service status" is "Out of Service".
I had used ClockWorkRecovery mode for the flash, and followed every possible workaround in the forums.
I came across many threads mentioning to take a backup of the EFS folder beforehand. I tried doing it with EFS Professional in Windows 7, but it gives out an error message "Your device is not perm rooted". And I know my device is rooted. I have the SuperUser icon, and hell I got a custom ROM in it. However, on different releases of EFS Pro, it kept on giving out errors like "Unable to detect /EFS mount partition" and was just impossible to make it work.
I then tried out this app called GalaxyToolbox, which luckily made the backup of my EFS folder, but restoring the same in my new ROM was no good. The IMEI still remained absent. I tried many options with it, one being to edit the saved backup file by Hex Editor for windows. It said to manually enter the IMEI at 0x80000, but on reaching the location, the IMEI was already there.
Google Toolbox also had options like Network Unlock. Tried, no use.
Moreover, the phone status in Google Toolbox displays the IMEI number.
I also tried a workaround that asked to backup my original ROM, then wipe it and install the Touchwiz ROM, and then advance restore everything except system, through the ClockWorkRecovery. Didn't work!
To get to the original firmware, I have been using Odin, which always does it successfully without any problems. And the original one has the IMEI.
I also tried another Custom Rom - FeoNix FiRe v1.0+. It had all the same problems. I heard someone say it'll be the same with any ROM you try, unless the EFS folder is appropriately backed up and restored.
How is it gonna be solved? I really want to customize my phone with a new ROM.

[Q] Root and EFS directories corrupted

Hello guys,
I have been flashing roms for a while now. Turns out that 2 months ago i flashed CM11 (nightly version) and everything was going fine until i tried to "network unlock" my s3 (the company code that enables you to use any sim in the world), and the software that i was going to use would only work in 4.0.4! My mistake.... downgraded to a version of 4.0.4, and since then i dont have any signal (circled icon in top bar).
What i did:
- Read a lot of guides here
- Flash a XXMG4 modem which fixed my signal and not my EFS
- Restore my EFS
Where is the problem?
- If i restore my EFS directory with root explorer (copy, paste/replace in root directory), i get signal and i can make calls again, but if i reboot, the efs directory (and other directories in /) are blank.
- I guessed that it was a problem of permissions, so i set the same permissions of the "after-botting-efs-created" directory, and nothing happened, after i reboot, even the efs folder created by the system, gets recreated again.
- Then i thought that there was an issue with something else and i checked the phone with EFS PRO, and when i try to fix nv_data or the EFS, it says that the software fails to mount the efs. So i assume that my issue could be related to some corrupted partition or something.
In the meanwhile i cant upgrade to 4.1 because the efs is corrupted and ill get boot loop once i flash 4.1. Resuming, only 4.0.4 is working right now and the efs gets regenerated.
Any help? Did i miss some guide?
