Hello! I'm downloaded an app called LCD Density Modder, and i modified the screen DPI 240 to 210 and i get a bootlop.
I have a .backup file in a stocked recovery, but if i want to recover the backup, i choose recover from sdcard, and i dont see the sdcard, just the in-phone memory.
I have install update.zip via ADB, but gives me just adb sideload file.
Help me how to edit my build.prop via ADB sideload, or how to install backup from sdcard?
Thanks!!!
If you are rooted just use adb push to send the file.
How?

I've got a cheap Chinese tablet (WM8850-MID) running Android 4.0.3 based on WonderMedia 8850 processor.
It's not rooted.
Here's what i found:
/system/xbin/su is present:
-rwsr-xr-x 1 0 0 68528 May 14 11:07 su
But I can't run su in a terminal:
su uid 10064 not allowed to su
Using adb.exe I have the same problem with uid 2000.
There is a script /system/etc/init.sh which is called a boot time, but If I modify and push it via adb it won't execute (lost execute permission)
adb reboot-bootloader does reboot the device, but it does not stay in bootloader mode and just go straight to Android.
I'm not sure where to go from here. Is there a way to root that device ?
Try ./adb root to run as root.
Use oneclickroot.

I forgot to mention "adb root" says I'm already root.
If I copy files with adb push, the owner is root, but If I use "adb shell" I'm user uid 2000.
This is a new tablet, but I'll give oneclick a try anyway. Thanks.
I've just tried SuperOneClick 2.3.1.0. It says it's already rooted because it can find /system/xbin/su, but I continued anyway. It can copy busybox (temp) but cannot change the permissions and it stops there.
Try resetting your tablet and if the su binary is stil there remove it. After resetting retry with superoneclick.

Thanks, but how do I delete it since I don't have the permissions? In case it's possible, is it safe to remove the su binary? I have no way to recover my firmware...
Use ./adb root to remove it because you will be root. After removing it reset your tablet to factory settings. It is safe because the su binary is not part of the os.
Then try rooting with oneclickroot.
Hope it works for you.
i also bought wm8850 tablet in china..can you teach me how to root in detailed its my first android device....i dont understand the other terms u are using....
Hi jallaine12gil,
I think that you should first try to root with oneclickroot. Post if it worked or not. Oneclickroot is a rooting program for android devices.
download the firmware. then find the android4.0.tgz file open it with 7zip, add the su file to system/bin folder and system/xbin manually.... then put the superuser.apk in the system/app folder then save changes.... then flash firmware from sdcard
if camera is in the top centre of the wm8850 tablet: in txt file

why not use RootBurner for WM8850? The rooting procces is similary to firmware update!
Extract the archive into sd card and insert into tablet and Power ON!

Hi, sorry to interject with something semi-unrelated, but how did you guys get adb working with the wm8850? I've added the vendor id to the ~/.android/adb_usb.ini on mac, but adb still can't find the device. I used 0x0ea0, is this what you guys used?
Any advice would be great!

Hi, friend
Sorry, how do you root??
I got the root for the Panasonic P-01D then deleted many preinstall app, such as launcher and android keyboard,
so don't have any launcher and keyboard after reset the phone(wipe phone data).
Now only can connect the phone to adb in recovery mode, because no root and launcher to open the usb debug.:crying:
Can i install any launcher to phone in recovery mode by using adb?
thanks.
only way is reflash ROM,maybe.some Samsung device could install Zip file in recovery mode but i never hear apk could be install in that mode ,the apk file needs a specialized app to analyse it.

First of all download any Launcher's apk file. for example, download ADWLauncher.apk
And these are the codes which should be written in cmd(windows) or terminal (linux or mac)
Code:
adb remount
adb push ADWLauncher.apk /system/app
adb shell chmod 644 /system/app/ADWLauncher.apk
adb reboot
Or, you have an option to Mount USB mass storage in CWM recovery. Enable that, and find a flashable zip for any launcher and place it in SD card from your computer, and then install zip from SD card, reboot system.

No, you don't have to push via adb, if you want it to go to /data/app
Installing from Play store or installing the apk, will let it go to /data/app

I did the really crazy stupid thing as you and was getting mad scrolling around for a method to push a launcher into my fone. Then I thought of a very simple way. I copy the link for downloading the Holo Launcher from APKTOP: /Holo_Launcher_1_2_8.apk then use Yahoo to send a text message to my fone. I was able to open the text message as there was pop up notification. Click on the link and got it download to my fone at the same time it open the windows of download. When the download complet, woa just clicked on the file that I ve pull into my fone. Wait few second and launcher is there again. Haha
Thank you buddy you save my 10$..
I also deleted my home screen launcher accidentally after rooting...and was hanging in a misery that what to do next and i found your extremely nice work thanx man !!!!!

Is there any method to install a modding zip, like SystemUI mod, via adb shell instead of CWM?
You can use tickle my android to push systemui.apk etc ...

- a rooted Android phone or tablet with USB Debugging enabled and ClockworkMod Recovery installed"
I haven't got CWM, and I don't want to install it to my company phone.
But my phone is rooted. May I install systemui.apk into /system/app and set permissions?
Does it work?
What is the update-binary file in modding zip /META-INF/com/google/android folder?
I can recognize the updater-script in the same directory which is describes the method of the install under CWM. But I don't know what update-binary does.
Update-binary is what provides the functions that updater-script calls. And yeah, you can adb push SystemUI.apk to sdcard, then mount system in adb shell, copy SystemUI.apk to /system and set permissions, then exit adb shell and do adb reboot. I'm not going to into more detail on this because it'll be redundant, as there are many guides on using adb.

So it seems that my HTC ONE has no OS installed, I am able to get to the HTC logo and thats it. I reboot into bootloader and are able to install CWM and TWRP but no luck installing ARHD rom via adb sideload method, it just fails. Any hints on how to install a rom either stock or otherwise? i have a cwm backup of my stock rom rooted odex on my computer but it is not a flashable zip. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
(i have a mac if that matters)
if you aren't back on cwm flash that recovery.
boot to it
push your backup to the phone with ./adb push /foldername/* /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup might be backups, I can't remember, but you can check with adb shell
./adb shell
cd /sdcard/clockworkmod
ls (that is a lowercase L)
that should give you a directory listing.
after you've successfully pushed the backup reboot to recovery again and restore it.
This should do the trick

Hy gunnyman, when I push the folder to the sd card it always decompresses and send the individual files to the system not the full backup folder so i can select it from the backups menu. this is the command I used ./adb push may6.zip /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
I also pushed the decompressed files to the sd card since it looks like it instals all files needed for os to work with the following command ./adb push may6.zip /sdcard
I reboot system but still stuck on HTC logo.
May6 is the name of my backup and when i use the ls command it has a .zip to the end.
So can you let me know how to sent the complete folder to the phone to be placed on the backup folder and thus be able to be selected under the cwm menu? Thank you so much
Unzip it. Send entire folder uncompressed
You don't restore a backup the same way you flash a rom. It's a separate menu option in recovery

yes its unzipped. took off the .zip name and sent it to the backup folder and it still sends the uncompressed files. Once I go to restore from backup folder I get a -System/ and -Meta-INF/ files and no file with -May6/ or something like that. So i try to restore from -system/ but it says md5 sum dont match.
Any ideas?
No, I don't sorry
hi,
I still have adb access,
already tried to adb-push of the original build.prop backup back in place, it is actually uploaded, but won't boot anyway.
backup done by build.prop editor, and file pop and push from a linux machine (so no CRLF thing for sure).

thank you
the problem was in the file permissions. i had to remove write permissions to the group. (rw-r--r--)
You can fix permissions using adb

First of all DO NOT WIPE DATA / FACTORY RESET
This will remove adb access. Depending how far you can boot, do you get adb in recovery or normal. Can you use adb shell? If you can you can us adb shell chmod 644 /system/build.prop
EDIT:
Failing that try to install a zip. Sell my links for both current and older zips
