I have weirdest unsolvable problem. would love some help - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have sgs3 international. A few months ago my phone started having down times. By down times mean that the network connection suddenly lost. I get the no signal sign where the reception bar is. It says no service in the status bar and I cant do any network related functions such as calling, sms, recive calls and surf the web. The phone would randomly lose the connection and find it again. The down times started on short perios and get worse with time. Today my phone is mostly down and sometimes get reception. When I reboot when its down and check imei it says null/null. When it has connection the imei is normal. After short use on the phone it gors down again but the imei stays the same but goes to nnull after restart. I tried different operating systems it didnt help. Tried different methods of backing up and restoring efs, didnt help. Also I rwad a lot of no service symptoms but in none of them had the peoblem of random down and up times.
Tried anti virus and nothing was found.
Also I dont know if its relevant but at the beginning my system memory used to fill up during the down times. My hd filled up in 2 days while I didn't use the phone. I reset factory settings to clear thr hd (my system folder would grow until the entire hd was full). After formatting and installing different os. Today only the down time persists and it only get worse.
Please if you ever incountered this or have any info HELP ME!!!

Can anyone please help. I cant dolve this on my own. Am I the only one this happend to? If I have an invalid .nv_data or some other filebwrong in my efs folder would my phone be able to reconnect to the network every once in a while? Are there viruses that block phone communication? If it is a virus what should I look for? A specific file or folder on my phone (my phone is rooted and I have rooted explorer). Has anyone encountered anything like what I describe?

Since this problem happens from time to time, and it is not permanent, I guess that your IMEI number is intact.
Have you tried a different modem?
You could also try an official update of Sammy i.e. if you use 4.1.2, you could upgrade to 4.3 through OTA maybe

the same goes to me, i have similar problem with him, pls help us! :crying:

[Q] Data Connection bug. How to solve?

The Edge symbol in my Galaxy S2 disappears when the signal is down.
It never reappear when the network signal get back. Even If i change all settings... tried disable/enable "Use packet Data" and other settings...
NO USE! It seemed to be serious and consistent bug.
Hi balavj, maybe a silly question, but are you sure that you are in an area well covered by edge gprs signal?

Signal drops inside a room... when i come out of a room... network signal regains... everything works... data connection symbol does not come back... this is the exact problem... only after reboot... it resolves
Ah I see... Never met these conditions with my phone here, so sorry I can't be of much help.

i am having a similar problem, seems to have happened quite recently for me as previously i had no real issues with it at all.
I keep having to reboot my phone to get a mobile network connection, otherwise the Mobile Network Status shows as connecting all the time...
Very strange
Try other modem, or shove the phone into airplane mode and back again should kick it back onto data.
I have the same problem here...
Tried KE4 (Original), KG7 and KH3 modems e nothing..
Tried many roms too, and nothing, the problem is on all of them...
Data on/off, Airplane mode on/off, nothing gets data working back, only reboot...
Ps.: ROMs tested: Lite'ning, Cognition, Exynos, KE4, KG7.
Kernels: Niphetamine, Jeffrey, Speedmod
SAme here
same here...
Is anyone still experiencing this?
I was having major issues with connectivity, data and calls. I got to the point where i could barely make or receive a call or connect to a mobile data network.
I tried numerous modems and firmware, including original O2 carrier branded firmware, generic firmware and custome ROMs. I found the problem replicating across them all.
I finally settled on Crsikelos ROM (V14) with KE7 modem, however i had previously done a full wipe install of my original O2 firmware (XWKDE i think) and tried a couple of different modems (KH3, KE2 and KE7).
I even tried removing my SD card as i am convinced my sd card is not compatible and is causing issues...
All of a sudden everything started to work again?? I put my SD card back in and left it in, no chance everything was still working. So then i flashed Criskelos Rom and made sure my modem was KE7, that was about a week ago and it's still all good.
TBH i think it may be something to do with O2's network being pants (rather than my SD card )....
Not sure this will help but i thought i'd post my experience for you...
Hope you get it fixed
i have the same problem i.e data loses connection. after a fresh flash of stock rom and factory reset , it starts working fine for a week or so and then the shyt happens again . i can tell u , its not a hardware issue, it more like a software issue.
i m not good at android but wen i used to run squid on a linux machine as a proxy server , i recall i had to clear a log file to make data flow possible every few days. i think android has a similar issues some logs files build up or some **** like that.

[Q] Lost phone service, required reboot

Hi,
I ran into this issue a few times and want to know if there anything I can do to solve it. I'm currently on Passion V13r1 with boot 2 kernel and I also did cleanup patch.
My phone service just went out for no reason. I can't call out or any calls can come in. I toggled the plane mode but that didn't help. Once I rebooted it then it come back ok. This has happened 3 times since I'm on V13r1. Anyone else run into this issue? Anything that I can do to solve this, pls advise.
I'm planning to flash V11b5 to see if it help with the speaker issue that I'm also having. Not sure if this will take care this problem too.
Thanks!

It sounds like your nvdata.bin got corrupted. Try and replace your nvdata.bin in your /efs folder with a known good backup.

Thanks for the advise but I went with MIUI for the time being. I still don't understand why it works most of the time if my nvdata.bin got corrupted. This problem happens only 3 times since I'm on Passion V3RC1 but not on V12.
I heard about similar issues on Passion FB page and I think it was a sim card problem. Try to get a replacement

A quick way to check to see if the problem is the phone's nvdata.bin, is to check the phones IMEI in System Settings > About Phone > Status. If the phone shows anything other than your IMEI, i.e. "unknown", then you most likely have a slightly corrupted nvdata.bin. The same thing happened to me a few times on 2.2 and when I first moved over to ICS. I replaced the SIM and was still getting the same errors while testing. Once I replaced the nvdata.bin in the /efs directory with a copy I made when I bought the phone, all the randomly losing network connectivity stopped. The biggest PITA about diagnosing the problem was it truly was happening randomly, with no discernible pattern at all.

Thanks for the info. I just checked and the IMEI has a valid number. I'm not sure if it is my number but it's a number, not unknown. So, it did again 1 time yesterday under MIUI rom.
Just to let you know, when this problem occurs and I tried to call out and it said that I'm on the airplane mode that I need to turn it off. But I check and I'm not on airplane mode. If I try to toggle the airplane mode, it toggled but sometime take a while to see the icon change from airplane mode to a normal service mode but still no service until reboot take place. On other hand, if someone call in, they don't get to the voicemail. The phone will hang up on 1st ring. As I notice, the problem seems to happen during sleep (screen is off)...
Do you think flash to different modem help in this case? I'm using Lithium MUIU rom and it has KB5 modem.

[Q] No signal

I've no signal anymore on my Galaxy S2. Ill do have Wifi and GPS, but can't find a provider.
So I tried to manually put in the provider information, but i doesn't remind/work.
After that I saw my IMEI number was gone and tried many things to recover it. But none worked for me
The stange thing is. That I have not flashed/factory reseted my mobile for some weeks. It suddenly happend.
I tried programs to write a IMEI number. But those programs didn't work. Maybe someone got a good working one or have other ideas?

I9300 Network Issues

Hi all!
For about a week my International Samsung Galaxy S3 (i9300) have been experiencing network issues. At first I have full connection and after a while the network cuts off and my sim card disables (in the status bar the mobile data icon shows "no data sim") and then it switches back on and everything works.
This process happens constantly.
I have tried numerous solutions like flashing new ROM and trying to view logs.
It still shows the IMEI and I don't want to unnecessarily modify my EFS I've read that it can cause serious problems.
What is the problem and how can it be solved? Any help is most welcome and I will send logs and info if needed.
If the problem is already solved please show a link because I couldn't find anything that helps.
Thanks in advance!
I'm having a similar problem with my I9300 as well, the difference is that the network only gets cut off when I try to make a call, and then it comes back after a few seconds, and it doesn't show 'no data sim' it just stays with no connection (no bars). Messaging and 3G Data connection works fine.
I already tried to solve with several methods, the only one that I didn't try is to Odin flash back to stock, wich I don't really want to. I'm running cm-11-2016 at the moment.

GT-i8552B Stop work SIMs and solve only on restart

Problem occurs with stock Rom. And I already tried CM11 and others ROMs.
When I turn on the phone, everything work great, both SIM registered, calls working, 3G connection. But after hours using (sometime 2 hours, sometime 6 hours aleatory) the signal indicator remain showing full signal, but is showed on "about" that network and phone number is unknown but still show type of signal (3G, Edge, UTMS). On both SIMs. Emergency calls only. Is like that could not read the SIMs card. And I can´t receive calls or make calls of connect on 3G. So, when I realize the problem I restart the phone and it come normal for hours. Airplane mode don´t fix, just restart.
I Already tried with stock BUBUANH1 (my phone is GT-i8552B) and BUBUANF1.
I believe that is a soft problem because my wife have same phone (both are after jul 14) and the problem occurs in both. I think very improbable to be hardware problem in two phones.
On my mind, this problem always occurred in the past, but I don´t had identified yet. The SIMs card were tested on gt6313 and worked well for 2 days.
I going crazy with this.
Could you tell what can fix it? i already searched for the modem.bin to this phone but cant find, anyway i think that if it was the problem it would never works.
First time when I used odin to flash, I chosed Phone instead PDA and flashed the stock tar file. The phone get a loop, but after I flashed using PDA the phone worked fine. Could this to be the cause? Could corrupted some thing?
