I understand that there were some changes to android after ICS which adds some difficulty to successfully changing your Wi-Fi Region Encoding (to enable the use of channels 12 and 13), but I was thinking that someone had to have figured out a solution by now.
I have an HTC One S, rooted, S-off, with a SuperCID (11111), and am running a 4.4 Beanstalk ROM port. I recently moved to a new apartment where the wifi situation is very congested (with neighbors using some seriously powerful routers given their signal strength).
Before ICS I was using channel 13 for fun as I had flashed DD-WRT on an old Linksys router. But eventually, because it wasn't necessary, I kept the wifi region on US and just used channel 11.
Though now, because of the congestion in this building, I really would like to go back and use channel 13. Having done so before, it is really frustrating not being able to. My router is set to 13, and I tried changing the region code (there is an option in the ROM) to both Europe and Japan/Russia but channels 12 and 13 are not scanned in either case . I also used sqlite editor and successfully changed the region in Settings Storage (but I hear this is now an obsolete method). In either case, the region is successfully changed but I am never able to scan channel 12 or 13.
I looked at the data on my sim card and it shows an MMC of 310 which I would expect since my cell provider is TMOUS. I read someplace that this is how my available wifi channels are being determined. Can anyone verify this?
More importantly, does anyone know how to configure my phone so I can use channels 12/13? It is really difficult to use wifi even 4 short yards from my router because the signal of -35dbm competes with a router signals on virtually every channel which is similar in strength.
Thanks!

All CM versions >9 have this problem
But it is easy to solve:
In the file \etc\wifi\nvram.txt you can change the line ccode=ALL to ccode=EU.
After a reboot you can use the high channels
If you flash another ROM to have to repeat this.

I've tried a lot of apps but nothing worked!
Changing the nvram.txt worked! Thanks a lot ???
Does this setting only exist on CM? As I have a stock rooted Nexus 9 running android version 5.1.1 and this file does not exist:
\etc\wifi\nvram.txt

Same issue here. Can find 20+ wifi networks in my apartment, but mine is missing.
I suppose this doesn't have nothing to do with developing...Wrong section...Even if I'm not a moderator is pretty annoying to see "there's 1 new topic!" when this is not related with Hero development...
oh i had that issue back when i first got my hero.
Do you have your wifi locked?
Cuz to finally get my hero to find my wifi I had to turn off the security and once it found my wifi i put the security back on and edited the settings on my hero to reflect that.
After multiple flashing of different ROMS i have never had this issue again.
It has something to do with your wifi radio channel.
Try Wifi Analyzer, which will help you map all wifi's around you and help you choose an other radio channel for your router. Scan and choose a channel that's not used.

Thats exactly what i've done. I'm using channel 8, as the only one among the networks i can find using WifiAnalyzer, so im pretty sure that thats not the issue.
why check in the villain thread or ask there or check villain.co.uk

Hello ;
My Wireless modem supports channel 1-14 for b/g standards , but when I choose channel 14 on my modem, my SGSII is unable to see the network. I am sure it is working fine because my laptop can connect to my modem and use the internet.
does anyone know any methods to enable channel 14 on SGSII ?
Thanks
Yo, you have two possibilities, either change the channel on your router or flash another modem in your device. I guess the first option is the most hassle-free
It seems channel 14 is only supported in japan, so it would be locked if located anywhere else in the world.
I would imagine this lock is in the wifi firmware but I may be wrong.

Nice insight Veyka, I wanted to try it myself on my ROM however I can't even choose channel 14 for wifi transmission on my router, so yeah...
Thank you for replies , the problem is that I live in a condominium and channels from 1 to 11 are very crowded. so I set the country of my modem to Japan and now it gives me the option to choose channel 14 which is interference free
May be I have to install a radio firmware for Japan ? right ?

Beware using channel 14 outside of japan, there's a reason its not normally there. You may end up causing interference with something critical.
The "radio" file aka the "modem" only effects the cellular radio, not any other radio, you would need to hack around with the wifi modem firmware, aka not an easy "fix".
Flashing a modem wont have ANY effect.
Basically, don't use bands not allowed in your country, the restrictions are there for a reason, and most gear is region "locked" in order to be sold.

Being in the UK I cant pick channel 14 myself Well I could swap my routers region, but yeh, its not cool, the 2.4ghz region is overcrowded anyway without people using channels that are not allowed in there regions
Hi everybody,
I'm having problems with my Tablet S when connecting to an OpenWRT wireless router (D-Link DIR-825). Half of all pings are getting lost (it's working for 10 seconds then for 10 seconds no pings are getting answered).
When using browser, i often have to reload page, because it is not allways loading at the first time.
Now I tried to temporarily connect my old Fritz!Box wireless router (on the same network). This is running flawlessly
So my question: Is somebody else running his/her Tablet with an OpenWRT device (with or without problems)? Any suggestions what could be going wrong here?
It's not openwrt, but I'm using a linksys wrt54g with ddwrt (v24-sp2 micro) and only having disconnect issues when large playing videos trought SMB sharing. Everything else is working fine. It's seems to have issues with high loads.
In others routers I didn't get this problem.
I'm also using DD-WRT and no problems at all, even with ICS , if anything I have slightly better reception now
I'm not running OpenWRT, but my custom *nix router is working flawlessly.
Check that you don't have any QoS rules or weird firewall rules set and see if that fixes your problems.
Hey guys I've recently checked that there's a new version 15 of openwrt........so I want some things to be cleared..
1.) Is there any size increment with this version..
2.) Will it be updated over Stone age version(3.8)
Lol...
My router is iBall-baton iB WRA 150 N adsl2+ single band router (best most selling and 30$)...
Ok it is nothing but a clone/rebranded version of TP-Link TP-WR741 and some guy at wrt forums posted mod file but the user is inactive and his links too..... i just wanna know if i am good to go... im over stock firmware.......and main concern is that WILL THAT ROUTER HAVE ENOUGH INTERNAL MEMORY TO FACE AND STORE LATEST WRT VERSION 15.**** ......IM Impatient to try out but is covered with dark cloud of fear of bricking......and if i did such thing, dad will kick me out of the house...seriously..thats why consultancy was the best option i was with....im on stock firmware version 3.0.0 and thats barely 2mb....and the version on site and the factory default version is same.... I'm not sure that is it full or a patch.. but i hope you can answer this question..

Same problem whit Android devices in wifi. I tried Gargoyle, LEDE, Open WRT and DD-WRT
I have TP-Link Archer C7

Hello Enzo, I don't have that router anymore. With new routers the wi-fi problems have gone away...
Greetings forum!
My setup:
Verizon Note II running PACMAN ROM 20.1.0
I was wondering if it's possible to change the channel that the Wi-Fi hotspot uses? I've scoured the forums and found that most people say theirs works very consistently and I thought mine was not . . . I can enable the wifi tethering option and my Mac Air connects ok, but it just doesn't browse the internet consistently. I thought I was an unlucky one until I noticed that my Windows laptop and Nexus 7 work just fine!!
I instantly had flashbacks to when I used to have a Clear Wifi Hotspot that only supported channels 1 through 7 and three different Mac Air's would not connect to it, but other devices were fine. The ultimate fix for that situation was to get a different hotspot that supported up to channel 11 and set it static to that. I don't know what it is about my neighborhood, the Mac Air, or what, but it just did not like to work on anything other than channel 11. I was waiting for the Spinal Tap joke from the Clear representative, but never got it.
I recently utilized a tip from Kaleb Randleaxe (thank you kind sir!!) to add ro.agps.allow=false to my bulid.prop and it fixed my GPS not working while the Mobile Network Location option was enabled!! Now I'm one fix away from having a perfect phone again. His suggestion made me wonder if there is a similar line I could add to build.prop to force the Wifi Hotspot to a certain channel? I have already tried changing the ro.wifi.channels to 11 and 14 with no success, but thats the total number of channels, right?
I actually got grandfathered in on unlimited Mobile Hotspot through Verizon, so I pay for the service and wish I could just use the native VZ hotspot app. I actually used to set that to channel 11 for best compatibility with my devices as well. At this point, there is no way I'm going back to a stock ROM after using PAC, and I hear it is built in to the TW framework.
My Internet speed is roughly 50 down and 5 up. I use a Netgear modem/router (this was the router that worked correctly with all of my demands). I have an iMac that will get the full 50 download speed via wifi. My iPad gets around 30 (not the full 50 but satisfactory)... but my Note 3 is around 1Mbps. Maybe sometimes it'll spike up in speed for a few moments... But it's so inconsistent. I tried using different channels on the router.... No improvement. (the upload speed is fine though. It'll usually be the full 5mbps)
Any ideas on what's going on? Any settings on the router I can try to help improve this? (stock note 3).
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Digital Trends has an article that has some tips on this issue:
Glitch: Wi-Fi issues
Some Note 3 owners are having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi networks, finding that the Wi-Fi is very slow, or that the device keeps dropping the connection. There are a ton of potential reasons for this and consequently there are a ton of potential fixes. Here’s what you can try:
Workaround:
Some people with stability issues have been able to get solid Wi-Fi connections simply by making sure that mobile data is switched off. Just drag down the notification shade and toggle Mobile data off.
Potential solutions:
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap Menu > Advanced and then uncheck Auto network switch. That seems to have helped some people.
Try turning off the Note 3 and your router for a few minutes and then turn them both back on again.
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and long press on the problem connection, then tell the device to forget it and set the connection up again from scratch.
Try out the free Wi-fi Analyzer app and see if crowded channels could be the issue. If so then change the channel on your router.
Make sure that your router firmware is up to date and check settings like MAC filtering.
If you’re having stability issues then you might try disabling the apps Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi Direct Share via Settings > Applications manager on the All tab.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately nothing seemed to of helped.
I do not know how to tell which type of router I have. I can tell you it took many routers to find the right one (NetGear C3700). I went through a bunch of Time Warner crap and several from Best Buy......even Motorola's flagship modem/router. It needed to do the following:
Provide open NAT type for Xbox live
Allow my Android device to recognize the Xbox One as a device on my network (pics, vids & music through the console)
Allow Android Youtube app to communicate with the Xbox One Youtube app.
Allow proper connection to my iMac via Wifi (One of Time Warner routers would not work with my iMac)
My BT and Wifi havent worked the same since the KitKat update - Thanks again

Man that sucks, I had serious issues with 4.3. since KK I've been rocks solid with WiFi,
You might try to old factory reset (which sucks I know) just backup first so if there is no change you can restore easy enough.
What ROM are you running? Stock?
Set your wireless channel away from everyone elses. There is a setting where you can just set it to just 802.11N save it. Try setting your wifi port to static for your device. Check your wifi settings on your device. Make sure your using the same channel on your device as for the router.

I've already tried a factory reset since the KK update (for Bluetooth issues). No help.
The phone is stock.
I've tried changing around the channels a little bit with no success so far. How can I change the channel on the device? How do I set the port to static for my device?
Thanks
