Anyone use the Pebble watch with their GS4? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I really want to buy this watch but I've heard about compatibility issues, such as disabling samsung features. I've read about the note 3 being the same and you just being able to re enable these features. Though I'm not sure if it's the same with the S4. Anyone use these two devices together or know if they work?

Don't have one personally but I have a friend that uses his Pebble on his note 3 without issues

I have had a pebble for a couple months already, and I love it, S4 battery life is not affected (or at least noticeably) but if you decided to add Glance or any app that uses pebblehtt to get weather info it will diminish your battery life as it refreshes the data every 5 minutes.
Other than that the things that you can do with it are awesome

I use my Pebble with the S4 running CM. Haven't noticed that big of an affect on battery life from the Pebble alone, but Glance certainly does lower battery life a fair bit on both ends. But you suck it up because Glance is amazing.

Need some opinions on s3 vs note 2

OK. So I have the chance to get the note 2 at the discount upgrade price (currently $199 on amazon) I currently have the s3 and I like it. My friend got a note 2 and I didn't get to play with it much aside from holding it for a minute. So I want to ask the folks who have made the same switch If you would do it again or if its not worth it. Just to get a few things out of the way. I have huge hands so that's not an issue. I also like to flash ROMs and have root, how is the devolpment compared to the s3? Thanks for any responses.

I came from the SGSIII and I can tell you that the NoteII is better in every single way. I love the size and the s-pen. Needless to say I absolutely love this phone. Best phone I've ever had and the best Verizon currently has to offer. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. I've used both extensively. NoteII on a TW custom rom FTW!

That's what I like to hear. On average what kind of battery life are you getting? Currently I get about 12 hours with about 4hours screen on time. That's with 3g lte and WiFi mixed. Mostly browsing the web or on tapa talk. Thanks again

I came from the s3 and thought it was the best phone I've ever had. I was wrong, the n2 is hand down amazing. The battery life is almost double the s3. I can easily go two days with medium to light use. I would go with the n2 just for that. You won't be sorry.

I think the screen is a little more sensitive. Also I usually get around 7 to 7.5 hours screen time

Battery life is awesome. Haven't completely drained it yet and I'm a heavy user. Screen sensitivity is perfect. I seriously haven't a complaint yet. The only issue I have is the Verizon branding on the home button. Battery, reception, call quality are fantastic. Actually the visibility in sunlight isn't too great but that is seriously the only thing I can think of.
I got the S3 on release day and then the Note II. I think the Note II blows it out of the water in almost every single way. The only place that the S3 was better at was the audio. The music out of the 3.5 mm headphone jack is not as punchy and seems to have a tighter range in general on the Note 2 compared to the S3, in my opinion. It's a minor disappointment that is by no means a deal breaker though, I listen to music on it all the time and you can tweak the equalizer to compensate somewhat.

I had the Galaxy Nexus for like ten days. I couldn't stand the battery life and the bad reception. Honestly, that phone was a big turn off for me when it came to Samsung. It was one of the reasons why I went back to my iPhone 4S.
Now the Note is a beast. It's perfect in every way except for the branding and the flimsyness of the back cover. I have a Seidio Surface case so I don't even notice the back cover anymore.

I went to the N2 because the radio/reception on the S3 was abysmal. Most people in 4g areas had no problem with it, but there are a huge number of complaints by people like myself that had terrible reception in fringe 4g and even solid 3g areas. I was leary about buying the N2 just because of my previous samsung experience. The S3 was litterally great for everything I did, except using it as a phone. In the end I am glad I bought a N2. This thing is deffenitely far superior to the S3. The size does not matter to me at all, you get used to it fast. The reception is easily twice as good. I can now get 4g at my desk at work where I used to get no signal at all on the S3. I love the stylus and started sketching again simply because of the ability. It truly is the best device I have ever had.

yea, there are a number of things wrong in the comparison.
quad core vs dual care to begin with.
then, it states for camera settings:
Has manual iso Yes vs No This allows to manually set the ISO level.
Has manual white balance Yes vs No This allows to manually set the white balance.
Both these statements are wrong. I own both phones and BOTH allow manual ISO and WB settings

Still have my S3. Awesome phone but doesn't hold a candle to the Note 2. Battery easily lasts a full day with heavy use, probably 2+ days with lighter use. 6-7 hours screen on time is typical. The screen is obviously bigger on the Note, but it's also way brighter. No issues seeing the screen even in full daylight. This phone is a beast.
Also check out flygrip.com. The single most valuable accessory I've bought for this phone. I can comfortably and conveniently touch every corner of the screen with one hand, without having to balance the phone, maneuver around, or even really "hold" the phone for that matter. It just hangs from your finger tips. The flygrip also doubles as a kick stand, which I use all the time in landscape if I'm watching videos and reverse portrait if it's sitting on my desk-firmly propped up and I can use my S Pen with it.

Galaxy Gear vs Sony Smartwatch 2

Hey All,
I will be receiving my free Sony SW 2 in a few days, which was on backorder from when I bought my Xperia Z Ultra which I've since sold to move over to the Note 3. My question is which do you guys think is the better accessory to the Note 3 - the Galaxy Gear or Sony SW 2 and why? I personally am thinking of selling the SW 2 to purchase the Gear, but before I do, i'd like to know the pros and cons.
Thanks - and sorry if this has been posted prior. I searched and did not see much on this.
Cheers
The gear hasn't been brought to its full potential. I'd wait for the Google watch or the qualcomm smart watch
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
very good question !
I am looking for answer myself : )
I v got curently SW2 ,
smartwatch 2
pros:
better looking as galaxy gear
much better battery life (SW2 live for about really 3-4days!)
when you recive email you see what and who wrote to you (on G gear you only see notification and need to get phone and check)
microUSB charger (on gera you have to back to home and use special charger)
much quicker MENU on SW2 than galaxy gear
all the time you see what time is it right now (dimmer screen is on)
galaxy gear compare to SW2
pros:
better display
you can answer the phone and speak
BT4.0 on board better coverage than BT3.0
video camera
THATS ALL
probably I will try galaxy gear but I think it is no good enough than SW2 !

Received my Sony SW 2 yesterday. Haven't unboxed it but from what I can see it looks like a very nice watch. Reading the Galaxy Gear threads, it seems like there are a ton of issues with the GG, so I may hold on to my new SW 2 for a while longer and see what developes!
Thanks to all who've inputted their opinions!!
I own galaxy gear....special charger means a little box with micro usb connector. The size is.a little bit more than a zippo.lighter. The menu is a lot faster.in.the.real product and the platform for gear is getting a lot of dev attention. We have.Root. And we can.install any app from Google play. And I am sure that Samsung will.bring updates to the firmware soon. As for.mail...if you use your Samsung email.acount for Gmail you can see the.content.of. Your mail, for example. There is an app.on the Samsung store for Facebook which works great. It's a well start and.will be.better. With future software updates. P.S. 1.You can really use the.gear as a handsfree, I use that while driving and.my hand.is.on.the.weel. 2. I miss IP67. 3. Battery last at least 24 h with heavy usage and the.charging time is minimum, aprox 1 hour.

I bought galaxy gear
cons:
looks much worse on wrist than SW2
I tought coverage signal will be much betterthat SW2 (BT3.0) but I think is a little worse than SW2 - serious !
SW2 has capacative under screen button wich is a lot qiucker to navigate
ooh I forgot .. much more SW2 comfortyble to wear on it , gear is not to flexible on wrist as SW2 wich fit perfect
I dont see by now much more better feeling using galaxy gear as :
better screen AMOLED and density
I am selling galaxy gear by now !

You get a notification for gmail but it tells you to look at your phone. It doesn't show you the content of the gmail itself. If you use the stock email client and just use that you get to read the content.
Scribbled From My Note 3
I have the GG and I love it. Depending on what you need of course.
Here are some good things that I like
-I love checking my notification when I am in class. I don't care about emails. I get quite a lot text message and checking from watch is really useful to me.
-I also use it as headset when I don't have my bluetooth headset. Just a quick call/answer and found it to be quite good. Not for long conversation though.
-Battery life is more than decent. I can use a lot and still have about 30-40% left at the end of the night. I have no doubt it can get 24 hours battery.
-Pedometer is not so good. I don't use it since it's not accurate.
-Camera is not bad for quick pics. I take some pics of lecture, signs and it works great.
-Music control is awesome. Just wish my note 3 speaker is louder.
-Ability to install regular app through ADB is genius. I can actually install some useful app such as calculator.
Now bad things and wish they will improve
-More apps
-Water proof/Sweat Proof
-Longer battery life is always a welcome
-Notifications from all apps that I use(I don't like using every apps from samsung just to get notifications) This is a huge huge drawback IMO.
Those are my use of GG and I love it for my needs. Your mileage may vary. I hope the god of all devs from XDA find a way to hack the GG and make all the notifications pushed to GG of what user specify. This will make GG a truely fantastic device.

I wanted that size screen/phone, the high resolution 2k screen made it a "must have"
I compared again to my S4 today, but do not see the step up that makes it worth it. S4 display looks better to me. That said, if I were coming from and S3, the G3 is a much better device. Not enough to jump for me from the S4. The Qhd seems to drag it down some due to throttling and the display has to be set to a very high value to not look dim, but it is still faster than the S4.
JMO and still a NICE device I will wait to see if the Plus version with the 805 is released, or maybe the Note 4.
Just got mine today! Came from the S4 (which I got launch day last year).

I think that white spot may be your SIM card. There are 2 slots in that location. The bottom slot is the SIM card (mine came with it installed) and on to of it is the SD memory card slot.

I came from a Galaxy S4 running the latest version of Hyperdrive. For anyone having doubts, you can drop them.
True, the G3's display doesn't scream color at you like the often times cartoonish display of the Galaxy line, but personally I don't see that as a problem. That may be because I've also preferred a screen that gives a more natural and accurate reproduction of colors, which between the two, I feel is the G3. That's just my own opinion though, most people's is probably different.
Unlike some people who have picked up the G3, I have zero lag. No random reboots. Nothing. It runs flawlessly. And that's on a device that is rooted, debloated and running ART.
Call reception has been better than the S4 so far. However, signal strength I am a little baffled by. In some areas, I'm getting signal where I didn't get it with the S4. In other areas, I am getting weaker signal. Personally, I am starting to lean towards the idea that the G3 gives a more accurate signal readout than the S4 ever did, but I still have some testing on that to do.
Battery life tends to be hit or miss for people. If you tend to use your devices like I do: Call/Text/Spotify and light Internet/Camera/Bluetooth usage throughout the day away from the house, mixed in with the occasional game/emulator while at home...you'll be happy. However, if you're one of those users who expect to watch a movie or an episode or two, play a handful of games and shoot from an on screen time of 5+ hours all during the work day...you'll be sorely disappointed. Because this phone has an amazing standby time: mine went down by 3% last night over the span of eight hours. However, the display devours battery power at a sometimes alarming rate. But, I've only had the phone for a couple of days, so I'm not worried about it yet. Also, battery life in the S4 was significantly improved for me while running Hyperdrive, so overall it's not a fair comparison. Also bear in mind that with the exception of Bluetooth, I keep everything on at all times (gps, wifi, auto brightness set at full, etc).
As to anyone giving excuses for not getting this device in the vein of "It has a locked bootloader". So does the S4. In fact, I made the mistake of picking up a 32GB S4 a month after it was released on Verizon, and I was forever screwed out of having an unlocked or loki'd device because of the firmware version it was running out of the box. In fact, Samsung devices are notoriously worse about bootloaders than any other manufacturer on Verizon currently.
So, is it a worthy upgrade to the S4? Hell yes. And if none of what I said works for you, think about this: The Snapdragon 801 in this device charges the battery significantly faster than the 600 in the S4.
Thanks for the review. Now that I've had it a couple of days I thought I'd give my thoughts as well.
Battery life - at first I'd say it was comparable to my S4 but then I went to all applications and disabled a bunch that were on after I activated my phone - now the battery life is great - I've had it on but unused and uncharged since last night (1 push email account - no texting, no imdb, no calls) and it only went down 5% in 12 hours (BT enabled, WIFI disabled). The screen activity does seem to use more battery life than my S4 and so does GPS. Otherwise phone talk time seems to have about the same battery drain. I only use BT for making calls so BT is on 24x7. FYI I just got the Plantronics EDGE and it is amazing (I also have the Sennheiser presence which has better battery life but overall I like the Edge much more.
Charging - the phone is picky about chargers. I've used the same chargers I've had for years for my Nexus, S3, S4, Plantronics and Sennheiser headsets but the G3 said it wasn't acceptable and wouldn't use it to charge. On the plus side the included charger does seem to charge it quickly. Biggest disappointment - that it didn't come with a wireless charging backplate.
Signal strength - I'd say it has only slightly better voice signal reception than the S4 but every bit helps (e.g. calls from the cement garage beneath my apartment complex). Data seems a teeny bit slower though when running speedtest. I haven't done enough testing for this to be an accurate or detailed analysis.
Overlay - I have to say it seems zippy enough to me and as user friendly as the Samsung although different so it takes a teeny bit of getting used to - except the back arrow - that took a lot since it is on the opposite side from where my thumb automatically tried to go when I wanted to go back.
Screen - great size. I don't think the contrast is as sharp as the S4 - you can say it is color saturation or whatever you want - in the end it still means some things are as well separated. There is a color adjustment some say impacts contrast but what it does is adjust colors - not contrast IMHO.
Buttons - I thought I'd really freak out about not having the hard buttons where I had in the past but that was easier to get used to than the back button - I'm finally used to both though.
Bloat ware - both Samsung and LG have some apps I'd love to just uninstall but until you root them, you are stuck with the crap although most of it you can disable. Health was the very first thing I would uninstall if I could.
Issues - no issues so far other than the charging one. No reboots or hangs. My guess is that people are installing an app that doesn't play well with the G3 or perhaps the current version of Android. I admit I don't have more than 15 apps I install myself. The only ones I really care about are truecaller(mediocre call blocker/id app), Tesla (flashlight), call history, cal widget (calendar for home screen) and the rest are items I only use occasionally - e.g. ip calcs, where's my car, speedtest etc. I tried some live wallpapers and went back to static ones - attempting to keep every bit of battery life. I had a hard time pairing my BT headset with my new phone - perhaps there is something difference about the process on the G3 - I ended up using NFC and it worked instantly.
Conclusion - I like the phone a lot although I'm sure the S5 would have been an excellent choice as well. I like the screen size on this a bit more but I like the contrast on the Samsung screen. I notice the difference in large 4K TVs right away but for a screen of this size the S4 resolution was fine. You really have to look to notice the difference.

I don't know what you want to know exactly but I can tell you that even the G2 was a huge upgrade from the S4. I sold my S4 after having it for 2 months and if I could have sold it a week after I got it I would have. I waited for the G2 to come out and upgraded to it and I loved the G2 but hard bricked it a few months back and got stuck with an OG razr and today I got a G3. I don't get the hype with Samsung's S line of phones because I personally think every LG G series phone has been better. As long as LG and Samsung keep doing what they have been for the past 2 years I'm sticking with LG because their phones are a lot better now. The G2, and G3 even look a lot better than other phones because LG has wisely adopted the small bezel look which I personally think is very attractive compared to the large bezels Samsung is still using.
I was in the verizon store sunday for a couple hours looking at all the different phones (even though I already knew I was gonna get the G3) and the G3 screen blows the others away. People who think you won't see a difference between the 1080p and the 4k on the G3 are mistaken because I could see a good bit of difference.
I also like how LG is moving towards a more clean UI whereas Samsung is looking as cartoonish as ever. The S5 looked so bad to me with the over saturated colors and ugly UI.
Lastly I'll say that for me the kicker with the S4 was at that time it was completely locked down because I got an S4 that had the update which broke all the root methods. I had it for 2 months and there was over 6G's up for anyone who could figure it out and no one had yet when I sold it. I don't know if people are still having issues with unlocking Samsung phones but that experience with the S4 turned me off of Samsung probably forever because I love to root and flash things on my phone, I had to suffer for 2 months not be able to do anything with my phone. Lg phones always get rooted day one and after a few months the development picks up and we'll have all sorts of roms to flash and it will be easy and fun.

Found it before I saw your post.
Pretty good. I've been running Wanam on my S4. Wanam made the S4 liveable.
My daughter will get the S4 now.

Who upgraded from a Samsung?

What Samsung (or any phone, really) did you upgrade from? What do you miss? What did you find better?
IMHO the design of the g3 was better for the white color, two-tone and not like a purse like the s5. Also was disappointed for another 1080p Samsung..
Anyone?
Design, UI, sexy. Came from S5 M8. And Moto x
I came from a note 3, I also owned a s5 for almost two weeks. Hated the s5 other than the water resistance, at the time there wasn't a root method. Loved my note 3 but had to deal with ROM problems to get as far from TouchWiz as possible.
Only thing I miss about my note 3 is the battery. Though the battery on the G3 gets the job done.
Beautiful phone. No problems so far.
Came from s5, had the m8 a couple weeks, g2, note 3, m7, etc etc
I miss a lot from the s5, although it's a lot of little things. Flashlight, call reject, all play store apps working (hell even my Amazon is a New version with a white icon on my s5) battery life (g3 is pretty bad) Milk (music streaming app that's actually really good), miss the option to have a text message preview on the lock screen vs "New message". I think the Samsung message app UI is better, the keyboard is better. Screen is brighter.
I am liking my g3 more and more, but it's likely I'll sell it and go back to my s5

Came from a Razr Maxx HD. Battery was failing. Don't miss much about it performance was pretty bad period.
Coming from S3. After rooting and debloating it a bit (freezing from Titanium), I'm fairly happy with the purchase (bought unsubsidized to keep unlimited data, not in the mood to play the transfer game). The screen itself is a big improvement of course in all aspects (color, size, brightness etc), phone is very quick without lag overall when cleaned up and runs better than my S3 on CM11, and battery so far has been nice as well. Can't wait till we get some roms going....just got my wife a G2 to upgrade her as well and she has been extremely happy with the rom I flashed....and I must say, the G2 battery is just amazing with that rom....maybe G3 will get close when the roms roll around we'll see. Happy for now!
Came from a Note II, but owned the One Max for a few weeks, and hated it.
FWIW, you can long-press the recent apps button to pull up the legacy menu button.

Those are some good lounges that I miss from my samsung also, I do miss the milk out the most. Has anyone gotten the weather on the lockscreen to work yet?
Went from a Galaxy S3 to this. I liked my S3 for the most part (though it did hard brick at the very end a month or so ago), so I mainly just wanted to experience something different by going with LG. I'm very pleased with the decision so far. Again, nothing against Samsung or the S-series, I did enjoy my time with them and the device, I was just ready for a change.
Had the S5 for a month until the G3 came out. I love the G3 and have no complaints. The S5 was an okay phone, but it stuttered way more than the G3 IMO, even with Nova Launcher. I rooted both and had a custom rom on the S5 as well. The only gimmick I miss is the fingerprint scanner for Lastpass.
Battery on the G3 is way better for my uses, the camera is way better and the phone just fits in my hand. The boxiness (I have no idea if that's a word) of the S5 really bothered me, but I liked the feeling of the back plate.

I am in the same boat. Loved my s3 but really wanted something new. So far not much I miss. The g3 has what my s3 had plus some. I really like the IR blaster. Can control my TV and Xbox from my phone its really cool.

I upgraded from an S3 and am extremely happy. The G3 has all the same features as the S3 and more. I can't speak for any other phone, but the only other phone I was thinking about getting was the Note 3 because i wanted something with a larger display. I might switch this phone out for the Note 4 if it has some of the same features as the S5.

Came from a GS3.. G3 blows it out of the water. IU is a hell of a lot better then TouchWiz. I always had an AOSP ROM on it.
Im coming from a GS3, was running some oooooold version of MOAR. Wasnt too bad except the battery was going to **** and it would die at ~40%, would also lose 10%/10 mins under heavy drain because reasons. Only complaint is the god awful dpi of everything with this beautiful screen. I need to root, toss xposed on there and get everything looking nice. Also this battery, uummfff its nice. 13 hrs off charger still at 70% with light use and about 20 mins of messing around with a game.
Galaxy S3, upgraded today!

Never tried an LG android came from gs4, m7, gs5, m8 then back to gs5 and that's what I've been using picking up the g3 later today hope I like it. I got use to the no hardware keys and the double tap to wake off the m8. And if I'm not mistaken the lg does both of those.

Correct
coming from most currently de note 3 but have had m7, m8, s3, s4 and note 2. I like the change so far but I still love my note and isn't going anywhere yet lol
Personal preference I find the G3 a great light/medium use device, but runs as warm/hot as my S4 with heavy use and just as bad battery life. The Note 3 seems a much better device for heavy use, but most people are not heavy users so 100% get why the G3 is appealing. Perhaps it is me being used to AMOLED (Razr, S3, S4, Note 3) is why I find the G3 display not as good as the S4 or Note 3. Contrast is the key for me and even adjusting the settings documented on the forums does not do much.
The one thing the G3 does have over the G3 for me is easier to manage with one hand than the Note 3. I find video, web and gaming though far better on the Note 3. Must admit I am surprised folks bailed from the Note 3, since Nova is an easy fix for the gosh awful atrocity known as Touch Wiz.
As far as the S5, I would choose the G3 over it due to storage space. A 16GB device now, especially with ART sucking 25% more storage and needing 1GB more floor to operate is NUTS. The battery life and performance are not far enough off to want to sacrifice twice the storage space.

For milk, If you're rooted, you can download the apk from androidpolice (they wrote an article about running milk on non Samsung devices) but if you run xposed and the chocolate milk module.. Good to go. Enjoy

Nike+ on Gear S designed by a moron

Hi,
The tread is so other people don't make the same mistake and they don't have high expectations. I was able to connect Gear S to Sony Xperia (the usual: some features worked, some didn't). One of the main purposes of buying this watch was running outdoors. I think there is no way to use S Health with a non-Samsung phone. Nike+ works. However Nike+ was designed/coded by a complete idiot. I am extremely frustrated. There is a big white distance number. Other metrics (time, pace, time of day) are displayed with a small black scrolling font on a red background. The scroll is pretty fast. It is impossible for any normal human being to read those scrolling numbers, especially while running: they are too small, scroll too fast, the contrast is too little.
The design is as if they want to discourage people from using the app! Or maybe it was designed by someone who never run?! I am returning the watch!
BTW, you can find "revelations" on the Internet about reverting Gear S colors in order to use Nike+. Doing it breaks other watch functions and doesn't help much. Why would we have to go through so much hassle for the very basic feature: seeing running time in a running app?!?!?!?!

I believe the 9/17/15 S Health update added support for non-Samsung Android devices. It's available in Google Play.
And he didn't even complain about how inaccurate the GPS is. I shaved a minute of my mile time switching back to the Nike app on my phone.

simplest solution, install android on the watch and download any running app youd like, like endomodo or so, or download nike app for android ahahahha
Thanks for replying. I have returned the Gear S watch. Samsung did everything it could to discourage me from using it with non-samsung phones. No problem! Fortunately, there is something called: competition. I am thinking about buying LG Urbane 2 LTE. It will be available in a week or two. If not Urbane, the progress is fast and there will be more wireless/phone watches soon.

I'm also interested in the LG Urban 2 LTE but need to see more details first. I have absolutely zero interest in another Samsung phone. They are pure crap. My current phone, Galaxy Alpha, not even one year old can't get a decent reception anywhere. The only reason I haven't jump on Nexus 5X or 6P is because of my Gear S.

So you but a low end device and then complain about a low end experience? Try a note 4 or 5 or s5 or s6. All of them are impressive devices.

First of all, Galaxy Alpha is not a low end device. Don't confuse it with A3/5. Not the same thing. I have owned Galaxy S, S2, S3. All premium devices at their time. And they are all craps (original S has crappy, barely working GPS, a well known/documented problem, S2 is a so so device. S3 battery circuit craps out a few days past 1-year warranty). Have no interest in Note 4/5 or S 5/6. Handled them and they are not that impressive.
Why would you continue to buy samsung devices if all of them are "crap" as you put it? Do you always buy products you hate and then continue to do so as a form of self punishment?
It is none of your business what devices I buy. But I thought I need to speak flankly about Samsung products since I probably owned more Samsung products than most.
