how do you do a full wipe without losing CWM or root?

I have been flashing ROMs for a while, but noticed that even a full factory data wipe/reset in recovery still leaves a ton of crap left over from the previous program installations? I know there are settings in mounts and storage but I have only used format system before.
I want to really clean my phones internal memory without losing CWM or root.
Can someone please help?
I ran a few searches but could not find anything this specific?
Thanks.
Format sdcard, shouldn't lose root or recovery but will lose all data on phone

Thanks. So from recovery, mounts and storage? Format SD?
Below is a copy/paste from one of the guides in my signature:
IF you are real serious, mount to your PC and move all contents of your internal/external cards on your pc.
*especially important if formatting both cards (see below)
If you want a REALLY CLEAN install (get rid of ALL the folders on your SD Cards) you could go to Menu > Settings and unmount and format both internal and external.

How to format internal memory?

Hello guy's I have a bit stupid question, but I can't find how to format internal SD Card. Usually its by memory options but on this galaxy s3 I just can't find this option.
The phone uses a single partition for it's app/data storage and internal sdcard.
So all you can do is delete all the contents ("rm -rf /mnt/sdcard/*" in Terminal) but not format it.
If you are rooted and have CWM Recovery:
1. Boot into recovery
2. Mounts & storage
3. Format sdcard
+ This formats internal sdcard and the data stored there will be wiped +

It did on mine, all files on the internal was deleted
Since the partition is different , data and the other files is in the same partitions

I can confirm that full wipe does not format internal SD.
I hade to rm -rf too
Yes my phone rooted and have CWM so I gonna try your method.
I just tried format from CWM but i get this:
Formatting /sdcard...
Error mounting /sdcard!
Skipping format...
Done.
Any help?
As said your internal SDcard does not have it's own partition.
Please refer to my first post.
so i just can connect phone to pc open that storage and delete it manually? That's right?

Factory reset
is it safe to delete everything in the Internal Memory ? like all the folders? will they restore themself? cause if we have to choose what to delete, could take some time to work out what everything is.. games/ wallpapers, all adding folders into my internal memory.
Enter this code but ###WARNING### there will not be any other dialog or yes or no option, after you enter the last "#" it will start to factory reset. I tried it and it cleaned out my internal SD card.
*2767*3855# Full
factory reset (Don't dial
it does not ask you to
confirm unless you have
problem)

[Q] my S3 (international) isn't able to start(boot)

Hei guys
I've a problem i made a backup in recovery mode ( using CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4. :: CF-v1.5), the backup failed and now is my internal sdcard full. As you read in the title my s3 doesn't boot anymore. I tried to install diffrent roms and the stocked rom is well but none of them were able to boot it. I also tried this turtorial (rootgalaxys3iii.com/galaxy-s3-stuck-at-boot/) it didn't work. :crying:
I'm pretty sure it's because the internal storage is full.
pls does anyone have any suggestions ?
is it possible to wipe the internal storage in recovery or to get accsess to the storage be for android is running ?
1. Download & instal Windows PC programs "Android Commander"
2. Boot into CWM Recovery
3. Connect to PC USB & allow/edit for any drivers to instal
4. Run Android Commander
5. You may need to mount the partitions first in CWM recovery / mounts and storage
6. Navigate to internal sdcard, delete what you need to
7. Exit program, connect USB and reboot
8. All else fails, wipe cache/Dalvik, format system and reflash ROM.
Hope this helps

[Q] Low storage for apps to Beanstalk 4.4.2 KITKAT(for p880)

I have tried the Rom Beanstalk 4.4.2 KITKAT the LG Optimus 4x HD from here -->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2585844 . Stable with good use of the phone and battery and quick. After 10 days , some applications of the Google Play Store as other outside , could not do the installation by displaying the message Error - There is not enough storage space .
By checking the internal storage of the phone and the external memory microsd realized that I have enough free space - > internal storage : 9,11 gb of 12.26gb card and external sd: 29,69 gb of 31,24 gb.
I searched on Google and found a related link --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1665742 so that I can find a solution but nothing happened .
I tried factory data reset the phone and again and flashing the Rom Beanstalk 4.4.2 KITKAT but still not corrected the problem . After some time I again presented .
What could be wrong do you know ;
To you presented this problem ...!
If so did you find a solution ... ;
I recommend backing up your internal storage to a PC and then formatting your storage in recovery and putting everything back on. This should clear this up. Often times, CM based stuff will be installed in /data/media/0 and just doubles up with that and the stuff you already have one /data/media and fills up available app space.

I was not talking about doing a factory reset. I suggested to wipe your internal storage. This is what your phone sees as /sdcard. You must transfer your stuff from the phone to PC if you wish to keep the files as wiping your internal storage will delete whatever is on /sdcard.

Thank you, I will try it but in recovery mode there are two choices, 1 wipe data/factory reset and 2 wipe cache partition. Which one? And I must take out the external sd card before do the wipe my internal storage? There is a problem?

Sounds like you must be using some form of CWM recovery. If that is so, then you will find the option under Mounts and Storage - Format /sdcard.
You do not need to take out the external, and wouldn't hurt to have a backup of your rom to restore from there, if necessary. Just remember that if you don't back up your internal storage and you format /sdcard - everything will be gone. This means media, pictures, app data that is saved there, etc.

[Q] User available space

Hi, today i flashed CM11 to my S3, I wiped everything, but in settings it says that user available space is just 3.59GB (installed few apps), but all space is 11.35 GB. When I connect phone to PC via USB, PC says that phone memory is 11.3GB , but used space is 7.85GB. There aren't any files, just few, which are about 1.5 MB. Any solutions to have more than 4GB user available space?
P.S. I flashed CM11 from stock 4.1.2

When you say wiped have you done a mega wipe this is not the normal wipe ie you need to format system, data, cache, preload, internel sd card etc.You need to be careful when you do this because it wipes system so make sure you backup everything and have a rom ready on your ext sd card to flash straight after the wipe.

Have you tried looking around internal sd card with a root explorer to see if any files are getting duplicated take a look at this >> `http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/info-flashed-4-2-sdcard-data-t2274218 <<
