[Q] Issue with flash tool

I'm trying to use the graphical flash tool to flash my ATT x10a to 2.1 and have everything working but the flash tool keeps getting hung up on "flashing system.sin" everything appears to be going smooth but it has been stuck there for 20+ minutes. I've gone through everything twice and same issue.
This is where im at:

Couldn't find any likely answers in the forums so if this has been brought up before apologies but any suggestions would be awesome
I'm trying to reinstall the "latest" udapte through SEUS now and then re-running the flash tool to see if that'll get me anywhere. I'm running windows 7 so i don't know if its an issue with permissions, the flash tool or my phone.

Make sure you turn off UAC and disable any anti-virus/malware.
Ive disabled UAC and antivirus, SEUS gets to about 30% of the install portion of the update and locks up then tells me "install failed make sure your phone is fully charged and try again" the phone is charged fully (or nearly now) I noticed in the log the first time i ran the flash tool that i got an error that wasnt there the second time, now after restarting the comp its back:
23/039/2011 16:39:28 - INFO - Sending loader
23/039/2011 16:39:28 - INFO - ### read failed : checksum err! FFFFFFFF!=CBEF977B
23/039/2011 16:39:30 - INFO - Loader sent
after this line it continues, is this normal? it still locks up on "flashing system" forever. I'm plugged into a USB hub so i was wondering if its the speed of the port being to slow but it works fine up until there. I'm gonna try a direct port and see if it makes a difference...
OK, it appears to have been the USB port. It finished the flash but now when I go to boot the phone I get a picture of an exclamation point in a triangle and it shuts back off.

[Q] x10 major issue

Hey
Ok so i did plenty of research and I have used google and checked how to use flash tool etc etc. Please do not yell at me if someone has had this issue...
Essentially i got myself into trouble by wanting to upgrade to version 2.3.3. I had many issues in the past with the only root method working the superoneclick.
I used to have one of the first phones which was rooted (the very long way) upgrade was dodgy and had to rebuild to 2.1. Unfortunately now i wanted to upgrade to 2.3.3 hoping it is stable..
I thought i found a shortcut....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192152
unfortunately I did everything with his steps, even removing the battery and not rebooting (p.s. i cannot post in the dev thread). Started flash tool and it connected, selected the correct files and this happens:
"16/013/2011 19:13:53 - INFO - <- This level is successfully initialized

Phone will now not go into flash mode... I cannot do anything and wont turn on.. any advice? Its stuck on the sony ericson stage... I have no idea why it wont work
did you try SEUS repair?
if you can get it running again i suggest updating to stock 2.3.3 before using a custom rom.

Read errors log and do WHAT IT SAYS. I don't think it will appear this error if you've done this step before flash. If yes, maybe you should ask devs why this error appear.

If you read the whole statement before I did do what it says....
I also said i cannot post in dev forum due to not enought number of threads - thus why the question was here and not in associated thread...
Further more I mentioned the phone would not turn on and is stuck at the Sony erricson screen... thus how can I change those settings? obviously i couldnt... (p.s. as im developing an android app atm ofcoarse the setting was on)
and fourthly I solved the issue already... guys above had an easier way i went the long way..
next time be a bit nicer about the responses and read the whole first statement/post. Everyone else on ere is brilliant with many excellent contributors.

Side Note: How can i label something answered and close the thread?

[ICS][Xperia U] noob-proof root via Flashtool

I only tested this method with the original ST25i Firmware 6.1.1.B.1.10, it should however work with all ICS/JB roms due to its roots...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
1. Switch USB-Debugging on:
2. Install Flashtool on your pc (you can download installer from here: http://androxyde.github.com/)
3. Install drivers for flashtool:
3. Connect your device to the PC
4. Start flashtool, press the root button, select superuser and press OK:
5. When prompted click the restore button on your phone, be sure you select the 'RootME' recovery!
6. Let the device reboot 3 times
7. The log in flashtool should look like this:
8. And of course the proof:

Be sure you select the 'RootME' recovery.
Because, if you already back-upped your phone, the 'RootMe' recovery isn't the default selection anymore.

I do actually think so, though you can unroot it and I think in case of you want to demand guarantee for some reasons like it just does not start anymore or something they do/can not check if the device is rooted...
Will this work on GB ? And if not then how to root GB ? O

The method flashtool uses when connected to a ICS Xperia U works. I don't know which method flashtool would choose if you try it on a GB Xperia U, so I don't know if the chosen method can work.
Since official ICS is out I would not bother rooting GB but upgrade to ICS and root afterwards.

My wifi is not working with ICS so im "forced" to be on GB untill or if we get JB
Funny, I never thought ICS could be the reason for such problems... Do you think ICS is the problem or the Sony ICS variant? Maybe a custom-ICS would help your Problem?

Did you flash the correct firmware?
If you flash st25a on an st25i, or the other way around you have to tick the "exclude baseband" option in flashtool or you may get errors.

Major problem is that when i flashed my phone about few weeks ago i had no problems and as soon as i try to root it (yesterday) i have the problem of on the first boot all the images are so dark so you cannot read or use it and the debugging is off and the xperia home kept crashing so i re flashed it with the st25i thinking that it could be that i am using an st25a rom but still it has a black screen and i have tried everything and the only solution is to re flash it. BTW i have tried the root now 4 times and still the screen is black with the words so dark it is hard to read. the music icons have been cut in half and the bottom part of the image stuck to the top.

I had the same problem when I tried the original version of this "hack". But when using the flashtool variant it boots more often and the screen gets normal again. I think this problem occurs between the first and second boot and somewhat in the second boots fixes it.

Seems like you waited 60 seconds and the software force stopped it like you can see here: "Waiting for device. After 60secs, stop waiting will be forced", you have to look out for the recovery prompt on the phone! Sometimes however it does not prompt the recovery app and you have to try again, happened to me once...

Hi guys,
I had the same experience with 1st rooting - only grey main screen and nothing works. I reflashed ICS once more and tried to root it once more and everything was ok. It wants appr. 3 reboots after rooting
noob alert..!!(though im really not a noob, but just a dumb question coz of something that the phone asked me..)
the second screenshot on the 5th step "in english" reads: "the existing data in your phone memory will be replaced by the contents of your backup record"
does this mean my phone(or atleast the phone memory) will be wiped clean after this action??

I have to admit, my ICS was kind of fresh when I rooted it... but I guess since you are not restoring some real backup but the RootMe you should not lose any data.. But save precious data just in case!

Unflashable device, help!

Hello, I've bought a device which is really hard to repair & I'm running out of options!!! The X10 looks brand new but doesn't boot at all!
Until now I've tried Seus/PcCompanion & latest Flashtool.
What happens when I try to power up the device, it vibrates ones but the screen is just black( think because there isn't any firmware/ Rom on it).
When trying to flash a Generic Rom or any Rom at all it gets into flash mode but aboards the procedure.
I also thought that it might be Sim locked & I have to unlock it to get it repaired?! (tried Omnius tool but that didn't work).
When trying to repair with PcCompanion, while trying to install the update/firmware it cancels by telling me there's been a failure, try again or abort.
The same happens with SEUS!
I've tried both tools at least a dozen times without any success!
I never had problems with my other X10.
I'm starting to think it's hardware related & I'll have to take it to a pro.
If anyone has an idea, I t would really appreciate it, thanks!!!!!

i dunno if this can help . but when the vibrate wait like 6-10sec then flip to the right like you wanna look to the volumes buttons if you saw any whiteness in the dark of the screen then the phone cable is working . if it still black the cable might be got broken or something or maybe there is wire that got unplugged from its place
btw i think you better take it to pro

Thanks, I know what you mean with the whiteness but there isn't, it isn't booting at all & I have those two cables which both work, that can't be it. I think I'll let it get checked by a pro. Your English btw is really good, thanks for trying to help
I think either it's a loose cable inside the phone or maybe I have to flash a specific Firmware (maybe an older one, a down grade) but flashing has never worked.

Really !! didn't know lol xD
btw i meant the cable inside the phone that can let the screen work without it the phone will be working and you only see a black screen while actually the phone is working . so try this
1.Power on phone
2.after phone vibrate . plugin the usb at the same time in pc open flashtool
3.Wait like 6-10 sec if something like this appeared '' Device connected with USB debugging off ''
this means the phone actually working. then this might the inside cable problem . if non of this happened dunno what else i can do for you . did you take to a pro yet ??

But before that..try this.. firstly...take original charger..and connect it to phone..let the battery charge..you can understand it's charging cuz in 30min's or so it will get heater... then pull off battery and let phone to lie without it for 20 min..then without battery connect phone to charger..and wait..you'll get green led.. wait 20 min after that...then put battery back and flash firmware with flashtool..with no firmware check option... flash whole firmware..kernel...baseband..etc..cuz now yo have empty phone... hope this helps..peace.

Thank You so much!!!
I´ve given away the phone to a phone repair shop which i think are really good. But since they haven´t called me back I think it´s quite tricky for them too. They´ll charge me 20€ if they can fix it & if not I´ll give Your procedure a Go!!!
Thanks for helping Fera!!!

Hi Fera!
My phone's still at the repair shop, this guy is convinced he can repair it by flashing the right patch?!? O think he means firmware, so I g gave him another hour to try.
You wrote that i should flash the firmware with no firmware check option?? How shall I do that? Best regards!!!!
Does S1Tool provide any insight into what the state of the phone is??
If it returns it's status, part of the output is the current file system.... or lack there of.

I just ran the S1 Tool & pressed identify & thats what the outcome is:
Running S1 from ver R8A013 (as i know R means Bootloader is locked)

Not recognized simlock certificate
maybe you should unlock phone by settool2?
I thought maybe it has something to do with the simlock certificate, so i tried Omnius Tool but the problem is, you need to check ''Unknown Sources'' which i can´t, cause the phone doesn´t boot at all!

Thanks Bares for Your suport!!! I´ve taken a look into all of these links & had hope again But as i read & eg. tried the flash tool provided in the first link (FOTA unbrick), ones again it didn´t work. The problem there was, i needed to have unknown sources checked which i can´t check, cause the devicedoesn´t & has never booted up before.
And for all the other links, I haven´t got an unlocked bootloader, it´s definately locked, so they couldn´t help. Thanks anyway!!! I wrote Sony a mail, but i guess they´re not going to respond.
Perhaps I should try to unlock my bootloader, if it´s possible, i don´t know.
What worked until now was flashing this firmware (X10i_3.0.1.G.0.75_GERMANY with flashtool) but as Fera sugested me to do (exclude Kernel & check no final verification). This only works if the device is without battery for approx 30 min.
I think I also managed to flash Baseband & Kernel this way Ones.
But only when i checked no final verification! Still the device didn´t boot up.....
After a lot of trying & flashing & errors I´m done for today & will continue tomorrow
Good Night
I just gave the Kernel and Baseband another try (unchecked final verification) and that´s what happened:

About above FOTA unbrick, i just wanna show you the similar problem on 2011 devices, it could be due to broken bootloader.
For us (2010 device), this could be happened due to improperly bootloader unlocking (see my post on Fera's discussion thread).
BUT, it still not 'dead' yet (i mean this just software related issue, not an hardware) , since S1Tool can to detected your .
BTW, have you tried to downgrade to 1.6 or 2.1 ?.

I'll try to down grade my device after work! I already tried the 2.1 version, I'll give the 1.6 later.
One thing I recognized was, that when I plug in the charger, there's no led on & I think it's not charging!
Talk to you later, peace & thanks!!!

I've tried:
flashtool with different firmwares - always with the very same result
Sony PC Companion - it desires an update and won't work unless it can get one, I was thinking that it it uses different server for updates and different for firmware downloading I can use that, not sure if worth the effort see EDIT
Xperia Companion - turns of my phone, asks for connecting in flash mode aaaaand never goes to the next step ("simulated battery remove trick" does not help either)
OTA - won't come in, I've tried a number of tricks including clearing data on Google Services Framework (or something) rebooting a phone having it turned off and so on
great number of factory resets
Should I through this worthless **** away or there is something else I can try?
EDIT:
When I tired to use Sony PC Companion (blocking internet access on startup) I was able to start the procedure but I got an error saying that Sony Update Engine could not be installed (and some error code here)
open up the flash tool and then click on the lighting in the top left corner then click flash and select your frimware to flash... wait for it to finish the make sure that your phone is not connected to PC and turned off,,, a pop up will come up that says you have to press volume down and hold it while you are connecting you usb to pc then it should flash it if not then i dont know whats your problem lol haha

Totally not helped. Thanks for making me believe for a second that someone has actually helped and this forum actually has some helpful people. Faith in humanity restored (for a split second).

And mysteriously enough I'm failing to follow those steps? This error is not totally uncommon and you could have given a number of suggestions what it is that I 'm doing wrong (releasing volume down to early, wrong firmware or perhaps trying stimulated battery removal) instead of that you've given all the steps that I must have known before (without them I couldn't be able to produce the log that is shown above).
If you consider your post a genuine attempt of helping I'd humbly advise you reconsidering what you consider help.
Although I do appreciate that you gave it a try anyway and I mean it.
