Is it possible for my i9100 to read an 2tb external hd (fat32)? It has an external power source but when I tried connecting it, my phone shuts down.

it is possible yes but conditions needed your phone battery is at 100 %
also you need to format the hdd in ntfs format for the phone to read and write as the fat32 is slower and uses more of ram and given that gt--i9100 lacks that kind of ram so NTFS is the answer
i tried a 2tb hdd via otg cable exceptions are samsung m3 2tb hdd was working great on the sgs2 but the seagate drive didn't seem to respond at all !
try it out and hit thanks if i helped

is there any1 successfully connected hdd to S2 via OTG ?
i tried 2 hdd (seagate 500gb usb2 and samsung 500GB usb3) both never work
even before and after root to 2.3.5 xxki4
mind to share which brand of hdd you tired and works ?
or share me tricks to make it happen thnx!
I think you won't be able to spin a hdd with the power of your phone. You'll need an extra Psu for the hdd. Model that come with those things. Most 2.5" doesn't, but i might be wrong.

mine has no trouble reading my usb memory stick maybe something bigger needs its own external power supply
I'll give that a try, maybe i'm just being greedy and wanting too much storage!

Tried it with a double ended usb cable with one end plugged into a usb mains adapter. Worked perfectly!

From my experience so far:
A) Does need external power supply
B) Mac formatted drives don't stay connected
I already have a USB OTG adapter from my S2, and it works fine with my S3, but I was wondering whether or not a 128GB memory stick would work on it with no issues? I don't see any reason it wouldn't apart from it trying to draw too much from the S3 and therefore not working. I was originally going to get a 64GB microSD card, but a memory stick is more practical as I can use it for work, as well as movies/music.
Has anyone tried a 128GB memory stick and got it working?
Since I'm using a 1TB HDD I assume that there'll be no problems at all just need the right filesystem or a kernel that supports the desired one.

Ah great! Is it externally powered or is it a portable one?
I can't seem to get neither my 1TB or 2TB HDDs working, both are externally powered too
It's probably because I'm using rooted stock at the moment, any chance of a push in the right direction?
I'm using it with an external power supply.
You should try to format your HDD in exFAT and use the Siyah kernel or any other kernel that supports exFAT.
Need any further hints ?

It depends what the external sd is and how big it is in memory size, some work and some don't.
I have a 1 tb external and it doesn't register on my phone not even if I repartition it.

sh^t im planning on getting a 1TB external HD this one in fact
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Sli...UTF8&colid=12HPR9PFUES4B&coliid=IYZBBEJ1LZLS4
i suppose i could go through the process of using OTG Cable with my Nexus 7 and then onto my phone but it's too much hard work to be honest, all i wanna do is to get music onto my phone from the external HD, this isn't good, ill have to reconsider my options unless anyone knows a better way?

Ah figured out how to use my hdd by installing an app called paragon ntfs then plugging my wired hub into my otg cable then plugging my wired extended hdd into that.
It's a very annoying process just to plug a hard drive in but it worked

Okay what I did was have my hub connected to the mains which is also connected to my otg cable of my note 10.1
Installed the paragon app that reads ntfc data on a hard drive (some are fat32 so don't need this app)
Then connected my external 1tb hard drive which is connected to the mains to the hub and all my files showed up on my note 10.1
Hope that's easier to understand
Oops sorry exactly the same process with a galaxy s3, get confused between forums

Hello, I'm going to buy OTG cable + USB2.0 card reader + microSD 64gb card (class 4).
Will this be readeble by USB host mode on Xperia P?
No one has tried I think

It will work only to the maximum extension limit of your handset which is generally 32GB...

It is said that it actually works... Some have made it
One thing is memory card internal and one thing is memory card mounted via USb host. I'm going the second method and I heard somewhere the phone is able to mount 64gb flash drive. I have tested the otg mount on 1.5tb hd drive and it's identified pretty good. So I assume the mount will work with 64 gb flash as well. The think I don't know is if the power consumption won't exceed allowed value. My old M2 card rmakes this problem.
