[Q] All apps crash after installing rom update - HTC One X+

Hey guys, I have the ViperX+ 2.0.1 rom, but my problem is not really about the rom itself.
A week ago the ota update got released, so I made a backup and installed t, but as I already expected it there was
the same problem I had before: After loading and adjusting all apps it loads my wallpaper, but after that all apps crash,
so I have to turn the phone off by pressing the power button. This is caused by the app LuckyPatcher. In LuckyPatcher
there's a feature which installs a modded playstore, when I installed it for the first time restarted the device but after booting
all apps kept crashing, so I had to restore a backup, then I changed the modded playstore version and it worked fine.
Now back to the ota update problem: I installed the original play store with luckypatcher and removed the app,
then I installed the update and all apps crashed again, so removing luckypatcher doesn't help anymore
(restored the data via backup again). Have you guys any idea how to fix this, cause my latest backup is a few months old..
Or should I just backup my data and do a full wipe? If yes what should I backup in TWRP (only data or boot too,
cause I don't know which of them contains the broken files), or use something like Titanium Backup. I don't mind if I have to set
all the options and tweaks manually again, I just want to keep my files (music, pics, apps, etc.),
so which way would you recommend me? Thanks in advance

You should wipe / factory reset before you install any ROM. These apps you're loading, how are you loading it ? Through backup or play store ? Is it system apps or downloaded apps ?

By loading apps I mean the usual process after booting the phone, it says ''Android wird aktualisiert'' (Android gets updated).
*edit: I guess fixing the problem would be much more complicated than performing a full wipe, so which way to backup my data (as written in the main post) would you recommend me?

Do a factory reset from TWRP. You will lose your text messages and apps ect. If you don't want to go through the process of re-downloading your apps, you can use titanium backup and backup apps but not app data (not recommended). Flashing roms without doing a wipe/factory reset = hot mess. Unless otherwise said no wipe needed.
Edit just keep check of the Rom discussion to see if anyone has the same problem. Try wiping then install 2.01 make a complete boot then install ota

What have I done?

I've flashed the task650 and phantom rom. Then installed titanium back up from the market and restored all of my apps. It then said that the android launch error has stopped or something.
What have I done wrong and how can I fix it?
Did you also let TiBu restore all your settings as well? or JUST the apps? Did you restore an app that was included in the ROM?
When switched ROM's you should only restore apps that are not on the device already. You also should be careful with all settings that you restore as well.
For me, I restore the missing apps, that I still want, with data along with accounts, BT pairings, and WiFi settings. That's it.
---------- Post added at 09:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:59 AM ----------
Oh, and to fix it, I would just hard reset your device, verify that all is running as it should, and then begin installing your apps again.
This is what I think the sequence of what I have done is.
-Obviously rooted my tablet.
-Backed it up with Rom manager and copy and pasted the back up to my PC as well as the back ups of the apps and settings from titanium.
-Downloaded and transferred the task650 and phantom rom to my tablet.
-Flashed it and deleting the cache and dalvik etc in the process.
-Followed the process of not selecting google during the factory reset and changed my wifi settings and synced google once the flash had finished.
-I then went to the market place and reinstalled titanium from their and restored the apps and data.
-It was at that point when I could not get back onto the android desktop (if thats what its called.)
Now when I click the power button I can unlock it and it brings up this box:
Sorry! The application Launcher (process.com.android.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Force close or report.
If I hold the power button I see a recovery option with rom manager icon and a download option.
So to answer your question I did let TiBu restore setting as well because I am a total noob. I more than likely did restore an app that was in the rom.
I can't really see if all is running as it should because if I force close the error message it just goes blank and brings the error back up.
I haven't bricked it have I? I hope to god this is fixable.
You are not bricked. I would just follow the steps again on the Task650 and Phantom thread to re-flash the ROM, and just start over. Once you have re-flashed, then reinstall TiBu and then begin restoring only the missing apps with their corresponding data. DO NOT RESTORE any settings or any apps that are already in the ROM unless you know specifically that they are safe to restore (MOST ARE NOT).

Thanks for your help I'm back on ok after a hard reset. I think its back to the way it was before I restored apps and data off tibu.
Im already on the task and phantom rom after the reset so do I need to still reflash the rom?
I'm not really bothered about reinstalling apps, but is their any I should restore?
Would downloading an app from the market I had on the previous rom cause problems?
No, you do not need to re-flash if the hard rest took care of your problem.
The only apps to NOT restore are the ones that are already on the ROM, as that may cause a conflict. Apps that you have downloaded from the market in the past, and that are not currently in the ROM should be ok to restore with TiBu.
Again thanks you have been very helpful.

Correct. To be safe don't restore any system settings or system apps. these show green in titanium. This error if from restoring sudden data on launcher. Task snuff phantoms tom uses a different launcher from stock touchwiz.

I've just left it as it was to be safe, was not to bothered about my apps or settings anyway I'm happy to start over.
So to avoid anything going wrong in the future, do I not update my tablet?

Hmm ... really strange.
Maybe a problem with your Google account.
But disappearing system apps ... ?!
If you have got a recent system backup, then recover it.
If not, I recommend to re-install a stock ROM (flashing with Odin).
Do a hard reset after flashing.
Root your phone (e.g. flashing CF-Root kernel).
This should bring back the missing system apps.
Good luck !
Whit a hard reset, you mean a factory reset, right?
And no, no backups
there is no way to reinstall those apps?

Hard reset: Dial *2767*3855# into your phone.
This will wipe internal SD card!
EDIT:
Please do a full system backup in future!
I backup my apps with Titanium Backup (free app from the Market) and make a system backup with CWM Manager app (which is included in my CF-Root kernel).
i'll be sure to do that next time, i wanted to do a Nandroid backup after rooting, but i kept delaying it... until it was too late
i guess i can backup my user apps now with Titanium, or should i just start from blank with a stock rom?
flashing the stock rom will also bring back the stock kernel?

Yes, the ROM contains kernel, modem and CSC.
You can restore all user apps you have saved with Titanium Backup.
Do not restore any system app.
Just to be safe.

but anyway, i'll proceed with the stock rom flash, just to be on the safe side

[Q] Titanium Backup Restore Problem

First let me say that I never ran into this problem on my Galaxy Nexus.
On my Note 2 I'm running Beans 2, rooted and unlocked bootloader.
Before I flashed the ROM I created two flashable .zip files with TiBu, one for the app, and one for my backed up apps.
After flashing the ROM, I booted the system, went back to recovery and flashed the .zip for the app.
Then I rebooted the system and opened TiBu. It asked me if I wanted to restore the previous Device ID, which I did, then it rebooted.
Then I went back into recovery and flashed the .zip for the backed up apps.
Rebooted the system and my apps were restored. The problem is that many of them don't work. Not all, but many will FC and require uninstalling and reinstalling from the PlayStore. After that they work.
Anyone run into this problem? Some examples are Netflix and Opera Browser. I've had about five or six others.
I had the same problem with Revision 3, before Beans 2.
Thanks.
By the way, all the apps were initially installed onto the Note 2 from the playstore.
I usually use TiBu and just do a batch restore(there's a little check box at the top right of home screen) and then just check the box to only restore apps (not apps + data), then I'll uncheck all and only select the ones I want to restore.
If there are a few that I want to try and restore data on, I'll do that on the next batch restore, and just leave apps + data checked...but keep in mind sometimes it doesn't properly restore data(and sometimes it doesn't even restore the app. If it's restored but not working properly, a lot of times you can just clear the data on the app in the application manager.
Hope that helps, I've never tried your method but it sounds like it restores EVERYTHING including system apps, which wouldn't be the best way to do it.

TiBu is one of my favs...
don't do the zip. Just backup all app. Put them on the SD card. You can choose that by going into settings and changing the folder where they reside. The boot into android install both tibu and tibu pro then restore missing apps.
I did this tens of time ( I have severe fla****is) never failed. Takes longer but works for me.

No the .zip flash restore was implemented a month or two ago. It takes your app + app data backups and creates a flashable zip. Worked perfect on the Gnex. It doesn't do system apps, unless you included them in your backups. Like I said I noticed it on Netflix and Opera and some other downloaded apps.

Yeah, me too. I started doing the zip restore when it came out. Faster to do it in recovery. But I've done it the old way like you said too. Have you restored any apps on your Note 2 yet? Since unlocking the bootloader and flashing Beans?

Yes,
and they work like a champ.
I am picky with the aroma settings, so I had to flash 5-6 times beans rel 2 till I got it to my likings.
Each time used the old tibu restore missing apps and data feture. Really nice.
The zip file is cool but if something is wrong with only one app, why mess all of them.
my take.
Abe
The only issue I've had so far with TiBu is restoring my Snote notes. After a reboot can see them (thumbnails) in the business folder, but soon as I click on it the stupid thing goes through a sync and all my notes vaporize.
Root, unlocked, Rev3 ROM. Tried Beans, but wasn't crazy about the ICS graphics.
Did you get this fixed? I ran into some trouble with trying to transfer Opera and Opera Mini onto another device. It transfers my bookmarks, speedial and open pages, so some amount of user data is there. But its missing my login information and feeds and adds the standard speeddials after my own (this actually happens on the source device to, creating a backup changes the source). Whats going on there?
I'm sure it worked before Android 5.1.
Old Skool.....

I've always done it the old skool was as well. It's more time consuming but I prefer to keep the rom flashes as clean as possible to help pick out bugs from non-bugs.
I always just restore the apps (no data) - then put in the time getting everything set up again.
Answering a question about how to do something with "I dont do it" isnt really helping.

[Q] Unfreeze/Defrost without Titanium Backup

Hi there!
Using SGS 2, Rootet, CWM-based Recovery 6.0.3.1, AOKP-Rom patched with OpenPDroid
I was experiencing some Battery Drain and found an app that was using CPU all time.
Used Titanium Backup to freeze that app.
The app was "Einstellungsspeicher" (Guess something like "Settingsstore" in English) and it was NOT marked as system-app. But still i haven't installed it manually.
Unfortunately the system wasnt able to boot afterwards.
Id like to keep my data, so a factory reset is not the first choice, but the last resort.
Is there anything i can do to unfreeze/defrost the app?
[Q] Can i just flash the patched AOKP-Rom again and the system-apps will be restored (and the normal apps will still be installed)?
[Q] Is there a recovery-zip i can install to defrost all apps that are frosted?
[Q] Can i defrost it manually?
[Q] When i made a backup with CWM after i freezed that app, can i install the rom, then recover the "normal apps" by doing a advanced restore? what would i have to restore in order to not restore the frost-state?
What kind of data u want to save?
I think u should check ur choosen ROM for auto wipe during install feature.
Look the thread and name the ROM btw
If its non autowipe u should just flash it again from recovery without any wipes. all the user apps will remain

Thanks for that. I flashed it again, but the system still wont boot up. At least i got my boot animation back, so i guess the system-settings have been reverted already. (I disabled that animation in the settings before)
Since it still wont boot, I guess the question is still how i could possibly defrost the app from CWM.
The flashed rom was http: -- aokp.co - devices - i9100 Milestone 1 (2013-04-16)
I want to keep the app-data i stored since the last backup (which was when i installed the rom last time, a few weeks back).
If i could backup that data for certain apps now, i could make a factory reset.

try clear cache and dalvic in recovery after flashing rom.Reboot
If u made cwm backup with normal boot try advanced restore. Step by step trying to restore parts
U can upload cwm backup somewhere and send me a link via PM. Ill have a look

[Q] Random bootloop, backup restore caused a mess of broken apps

Ok, so I have a Sprint Evo 3D with S-Off and the SmoothCriminal rom and 4ext touch recovery (stuck on RC3 because there is no way to install a recovery image anymore without having the device working in the first place).
Last night for no reason the UI started endlessly rebooting, so I decided to just reboot...... and my phone kept boot-looping from then on.
Not wanting to lose all of my data I perform an advanced nandroid backup of all of the partitions separately so I could take a closer look and see what might cause it to boot properly again.
Turns out for some reason the /data/system/sync folder was the problem, removing this causes the phone too boot again after wiping and restoring the data partition with that folder removed from the nandroid backup.
Problem is, I seem to have lost permissions or whatever the term would be for ANY app that didn't come with the rom or had been updated since, I have to delete my account, then re-add it, then uninstall and reinstall EVERY app.
First of all, isn't the sync folder just a temporary cache for data to sync to your accounts? Why would that cause a bootloop and it's removal fix it? And second, why would removing it make me lose all of the equivalent of my "licenses" for every app? Is there any easy way to fix this?
Sorry I don't have an answer to your main question, but do you not have your apps backed up with titanium (or another) that you can easily restore from?
I didn't have a backup from before it started bootlooping, no. Plus its not like I can run Titanium if all I can access are the bootloader and recovery, not the main OS.
And also, I have another problem now. All the system apps I cannot update because of the license conflict thing, and unlike the other apps I cannot just uninstall and reinstall them to fix it, since they are system apps. Just updating doesn't work either.
