for some reason, my friends thunderbolt cant autospace when using swype. i tried reinstalling, restarting, turning autospace off then back on.. holding the space bar doesnt "turn it on" like it does on my nexus one.
he just got the phone yesterday.
any ideas?
i am having the same problem.....sort of. whenever i am doing certain tasks, swype autospaces like normal. it has worked so far with browsing, email, and the htc notepad widget that i can remember. it hasn't worked correctly whenever i write text messages though. anyone have any tips on the fix?
haven't tried with anything else except texting actually. LOL
I'd love to know if there is a fix for this, as it is happening to me too. I was going to shoot swype a message saying so. I assume if they need to fix something we need to tell them it is a problem first. Hence the Beta
It was stated in another post that you need to re-enable another keyboard and then enable swipe again. It worked for me just fine.

I don't have the option to change my keyboard. No swype or anything. (well I have the option of compact qwerty and phone)
re enabled android keyboard then back to swype- still not spacing.. it is driving me nuts

I'm using swype beta and handcent and its not working either. The beta, for me, behaves differently from stock swype. The one that came pre installed.

but yeah the autospacing still doesn't work. They sent me an e-mail saying they did all this crazy updates to swype, so i reinstalled with that, and still nothing.

Must have misunderstood lol. Ya know this being a section about the Thunderbolt and all
I just installed the swype beta on my Thunderbolt and even with auto-spacing turned on in the swype settings in the menu system, when using swype to send messages shows a little red circle w/ line through it on the space bar. I don't know if this has something to do w/ some built in code on the TB? Are the rest of you with this issue showing the same thing? I mean still even having to manually space I seem to be able to type so much faster and I've only been using swype for like 2 days now on my DROID Incredible.
UPDATE:
So is this issue limited only to the built in SMS app? As I seem to have auto-spacing in the other apps I've tried... just not the messages app.

The Thunderbolt didn't come with Swype.
And yes, it's only the stock SMS app that has shown this problem. 3rd party SMS programs, email/Gmail, browser, etc. are all working fine in terms of auto-spacing using Swype.
On the official swype forum a forum mod said that this is because Sense isn't properly designating the messaging apps text input field as auto space/auto caps.

Seems isolated to the native Android SMS app. All other apps I've tried seem to work perfectly.
I just downloaded this game to play against my wife (she's got an Iphone), because there aren't many cross-platform head-to-head games.
Problem is, my wife gets immediate notification when its her turn, I get none; zero.
For those of you familiar with IOS, their phones have a notification hub under general settings where they can manage all their installed apps' notifications. In other words, they don't have to go into an individual app and manage notifications on the "micro-level", whereas with Android, micro-level app notification is our only built-in option.
Well, this began to annoy me because while IOS doesn't hold many competitive advantages over Android anymore, this is one functional item that I frankly felt blew Android out of the water.
However, I found the app called "Iphone Notifications" on the market (Google Play now, I guess) which essentially serves the same function as the IOS notification hub. I tested this app on some basic apps where I get notifications regularly to make sure it works (SMS, Gmail, etc), and sure enough, it worked perfectly.
The moment of truth though was setting it to work with "Draw Something" which I then did, and unfortunately, nothing; no notification. I went into the app itself (Draw Something), checked again for any settings to be changed, but the in-app notification setting was already turned "on".
Does anyone know if I'm doing anything wrong here or if there are work arounds??
Please advise as it annoys me to have to check the actual app itself to see when its my turn to play, but it annoys me even more to think that IOS still functions more reliably than Android at a level so basic as this....
Thanks in advance-
Ryan
It has nothing to do with iOS functioning better.. the app is poorly written for Android. Games by zynga are cross platform and they let you choose your notification interval but Draw Something has never given me a notification either. It also crashes a lot.. three stars on the market for a reason

From what I can tell there is no notification option in the app itself...hopefully in a update.

Right, but the "Iphone Notification" app should alert me in the app's place, shouldn't it? I mean that's the only reason I downloaded the notification app to begin with.
After all, iOS apps all notify you on an Iphone through the notification hub, regardless of the individual app's native notification settings.
I am guessing then that there are API's or something similar that iOS has with apps that push-notifies the user which Android may not have (with all apps).
In any case, this sucks out loud because now I have to admit to my wife that there's still something iOS does better than Android, even if it's a small issue and even if the issue is primarily in this particular app, because even if the app is not up to speed yet, and even if it doesn't have much if any of its own notification settings, it still push notifies on iOS but not Android.
I realized you can't use the back key to go back once you're in a game with someone. Fun game but it feels like they rushed a bit too much.

I just switched from an iPhone 4. I HATED the iOS Facebook app; Android's is far, far better IMHO. On iOS I would only occasionally get a push notification about posts, and never for incoming messages. So far on Android, I'm getting a notification every time I receive a message. Not sure about posts, I haven't had any yet.
The other problem I had with the iOS Facebook app is the data was always old. Especially with picture comments. Even manually refreshing still showed the old messages, and none of the new ones. I'd have to wait a couple days before it would finally show up. I haven't had any such problem on my Note so far, everything seems to be perfectly synced with the website.
EDIT: Oh, and the only notification I've ever gotten with Draw Something is when the other person guesses my drawing - it plays a sound. No visual notification. It was that way before I made the phone switch as well. It's quite frustrating, I'm always having people text me "MAKE YOUR MOVE!"
EDIT 2: Yup, I'm receiving notifications for Facebook posts and comments as well. In fact I get them only a fraction of a second after it appears on my desktop. Soo much better than what I was used to on iOS...
Install noled and use that to monitor whatever apps you want. Its pretty handy

Back to OP.
If the app has no notification feature on Android, what does the IOS Notification app have to grab to give a notification? I would not think that the app can just create a notification for an app that does not have this function.
I wrote the Dev and asked for this feature to be added to the Android App. I suggest everyone else do the same.
I DO agree with you 100% that this is annoying as all hell though.

Hi,
Please tell me how to get rid of the god-awful slow texting app that comes with this phone, and replace it with the stock android texting app.
Thanks!
Are you referring to the AT&T messages app? 'Cause the SMS app that comes stock works fine for me :/
Stock messages app works fine for me. If you have root you may be able to find differnt message apps, but my first suggestion is to give handcent a try as it is my go to sms app for when I'm having issues with cusom ROMs being buggy with mms. Its got a threaded look to it, much like iphone.

It also has font packs and other stuff on the app store.

I far prefer GO SMS Pro, love the interface and features, but with all the third-party SMS apps I have an issue of double and triple texts being sent to people. I agree the Samsung SMS app is painfully slow. I hate using it, but it's my only choice because it doesn't send out duplicate texts. :/

Thats very odd, I've never got complaint of this. Have you googled the issue to see if there is a known solution or work around? As common as these apps are you can't possibly be the only one misfortunate enough to experience this. I have had issues in the past getting numerous notifications despite turning native notifications off for SMS, but thats an entirely different issue.

Mostly I see people on ICS complaining about this issue, but there are several people on GB complaining about it as well, for both GO SMS and Handcent and a few others on Google Play.
I had the duplicate notification issue with Handcent - even though I had disabled notifications for the stock app AND frozen it. Didn't have that problem with GO SMS. Had an odd problem when I tried Chomp SMS, where all incoming messages were anonymous and upon trying to view them, the message couldn't be found. That even happened in the stock app, so long as I had Chomp installed. Uninstalling fixed that issue immediately.
But so far as I can tell, some people just have the problem, and most don't. I have yet to see a reply from any of the devs about the issue. I've tried completely resetting the phone to factory spec but I still got the duplicate message issue.
I really, REALLY want to use GO SMS. Although something else I noticed is that some people's messages were being sent to the wrong contacts... Perhaps I'll try the vanilla Android apk...
How do you try the vanilla android apk?

Thanks but I don't really want a third party version with ads. I don't get it...isn't there a plain messaging app that comes with android (like what was on the nexus one), or is it proprietary to every device? It seems like this shouldn't be such a difficult thing to install instead of the crappy samsung one. Am I missing something?
i'm surprised. the sms app is not bad i'm the note. I've seen worse. (though i am using the rogers version)
I'm coming from a rooted Inspire 4G (cyanogen) and I've noticed that the texting on the Samsung Messaging app is a bit sluggish. And some keys don't respond to my fast fingers.. Yet the app itself runs very fast (ie open app, open threads, go back, etc).
One thing I did was uninstall Swype through Titanium and I think I've noticed a difference in the keyboard speed. It may just be my imagination though

Disable it in settings/application manager/all applications. Find talkback and select uninstall updates. After updates are uninstalled go back into talkback from application manager, select force stop, then disable.
Right! Never delete a system app until you have disabled it or froze it with TiBU, then tested your phone fir a day or so. You never know how or what those apps are connected to.

True. Thats why I tried to disable it. And google text to speech. And Samsung text to speech. Each one stops it for a while. Then it comes back on even though it shows it is disabled. Its enough to make you start pulling out your hair.

For me the issue was being caused by that fact that I have NoLED turned on in Accessibility. And it's a known issue with the developer of NoLED because he has a FAQ item about it. The best I've been able to do is get the talkback completely silent by disabling Talkback, Google Text to Speech and Samsung TTS. NoLED still works, and the nagging voice is gone, the only unwanted artifact is the HAND icon of Talkback that continues to show up in the Notification bar even though it's not running. I can live with that way easier than hearing that silly voice telling me everything I was doing.
For what it's worth I think the guides provided concerning rooting and rom upgrades for this phone are not as explicit or clearly written as they could be. Kudos to those who took time to do and provide what's there, and I realize that they've most likely moved on to newer devices, but even though I've rooted most of my devices in the past and am not a complete noob I did not feel comfortable using the provided instructions on this device. I haven't bricked a device yet, and don't want to start with this one.
Well, I'm not running no led. Whenever any of the services I use are active (pebble, or pepple notifier) are activated, talkback is activated. Like you, I have rpoted every device up to this one. Not really scared of bricking it. Just not sure a new rom would help. Contacted samsung, and was told it was a hardware problem. Like I'm an idiot. Obviously its in the software. Just not sure if it is samsung specific. Guess I'll just keep bumbling along with this work around.

FYI. You can get rid of the Talkback icon after each reboot by opening the notification bar, touch and hold Talkback, pick App Info, this will open into Settings App Info (for some reason), pick force stop and then the icon is gone until the next reboot.

This whole Talkback feature appears to be filled with issues. I think I'll live with the hand (and not talk to it, lol), rather than risk more complications and further issue. So far I like Jellybean, but I hope that the next version of Android on Samsung devices fixes these issues.
As an aside, another thing that took me by surprise was the use of a new mountpoint for the external SD card. It took me a bit to figure out why /sdcard/external_sd was empty of files, but Music and other apps were able to see the data I had on the card. It's been awhile since my days as a UNIX SA and it dawned on me, literally in the middle of the night that perhaps the OS was using a different mountpoint. I was very relieved to find it under /storage/extSdCard and that my data was both there and able to be used.

Did you uninstall TalkBack (using something like Titanium BackUp) and not just disable it? If so, when you pick App Info from the Talkback notification does it open up the "Settings Version 4.1.2-I717UCMD3" app? If not It might be that we have different apps installed causing a different app to come up. If this is the case, would you mind trying going into Settings, Application Manager, All, Settings (the one with "Version 4.1.2-I717UCMD3", I have 2 Settings apps) and force stop that and see if that works.
I never uninstalled talkback. Since i haven't bothered rooting. forced stop defiantly gave me headaches, so I settled for stopping the text to speech of google and samsung. Running android 4.1.2. Ive seen on other posts where this is a samsung issue, and hopefully they are working on it. Looks like we have the same versions. Baseband i717ucmd3 with android version 4.1.2 \. Build # JZO54k.i717ucmd3. Force stopping just screws up my touchscreen, so I'll leave it enabled for now. Maybe Samsung will fix it, but I won't be holding my breath....

I too have a Pebble, and have had the issue with talkback showing up on every reboot. I had seen that it was a Samsung issue, so all I do is get rid of it on reboots. Just turn your Pebble Notifier, or I think any other accessibility app, off then back on. This will get rid of the hand, and thus far I have not had it talk to me at all. But I am running Padawan currently, so YMMV. To turn things off and on, just select the talkback notification from the bar to get into accessibility settings.
I ended up rooting for a couple of reasons. I had already frozen Google Text to Speech, Samsung Text to Speech, or whatever it's called, and the Talkback app but still had the hand. After rooting I was able to tap on Talkback in the pull down notification screen and turn off notifications of it. Strange that is was still there, but it worked and the hand hasn't been back.

Nope. Because they don't natively support android wear, the watch just takes the text from the notification. And as you can see on your phone the text is also cut off. Your watch doesn't do anything else than display the text in the notification and not the full message. That only works with supported apps like gmail, hangouts, etc..

Okay, I see. I'm a bit spoiled by my Pebble cause it can show the full text with a 3rd party notification app.
