Instructions:
Download the ROM, and gapps (downloads below)
BACKUP whatever you’re running - in recovery, do a full backup of system, boot, and data partitions
wipe phone in recovery (format system, data, cache, and dalvik partitions)
install rom + gapps (I always flash ROM twice then flash gapps)
reboot and set it up
give it another 10 minutes and reboot again

Known Issues:
If you experience screen flickering, disable hardware overlays in developer options.
You must flash with latest CWM recovery - TWRP doesn't work.
Call echo still on speakerphone: this is a CM bug and it WILL mess up dialing your security code in voicemail...
Call voicemail while not on speakerphone, dial your code, THEN switch to speakerphone to listen.
If gallery crashes and reboots your phone - Remove any and all mp4 files you have on your phone storage and sd card. For some reason mp4 files that were generated before 4.3 makes the gallery crash.
Anything you find? Let me know.

I was going to make a theme chooser theme for this to make it easier to correct the things I don't like color wise. But then
I found a beautiful Blacked out theme already Located Here prepared by blackout1911. He did an awesome job. So being the slacker that I am .. I just use his.
THAT SAID:
I did find a few things I wanted to correct. So I am keeping the zips going.
KitKat Fixer Flashy zips Located here:
WARNING USE ONLY ZIPS DATED THE SAME AS THE RELEASE.
NOTE:
If the Unicorn Gods decide to bork your phone with this .. I are sorry .. but I are not responsible. (But it seems safe lol)
What does this do for me, the grateful AOKP user?
It will remove some other holo blue that is in the rom for now. I am not a fan of the color, which is one of the reasons I started theming. KitKat is Hugely different from other releases that we have had, and therefore harder to theme .. and build if you ask Fuze.
What happens if I don't flash the zip dated the same as the rom?
Maybe nothing. Maybe you might loose features (like Torch). Maybe bootloops for you. Things change in every build. Usually that change is in frameworks. And yes .. frameworks is important.
What are the differences in the Fixer zip and the Hornycorn zip?
Hornycorn adds the Pink Unicorn animation. Everything else is the same.
Okay Bubba .. I got all that.. But you are old and slow .. and dagnammit I just can't wait .. so now what?
Oh a wise guy eh? okay then .. there are a special zip for you below. I left frameworks out. So for the most part, it should be fine unless there is a big change in SystemUI. It will give you the boot animation and correct the sound state toggle as well as give you the Unicorn lock handle. Mind you I said it "SHOULD" be fine. If SystemUi crashes dirty flash the rom and gapps to fix... then wait like everyone else.
INSTRUCTIONS TO INSTALL:
1. Go into recovery and back up your Unicorn Droppings before flashing. I will test flash every zip to check .. but you never know.
2. Flash the zip of your choice. Reboot and enjoy the fix.
Not so hard huh?
Where can I get this Unicorn goodness?
So glad you asked:
I are impatient and don't wanna wait
Dagnammit give me my dadgum Hornycorns right now I can't wait for your slow ass

BOOT ANIMATIONS ... I love new goodies.
These Boot Animations zips contain the listed boot animation and the unicorn lock screen handle only. To get the newest SystemUI update flash the Hornycorn zip with matching Rom date. That zip has the Unicorn Gears. Then you can change between Boot Animations as you please. Easy for you and easy for me.

I hadn't changed the governor settings before I reverted so whatever it has set out of the box. I had done a clean flash and restored my apps from the play store. Maybe was a bad flash on my part? The last version ran so smooth for me that I went back without trying too hard to fix.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well, the reason I ask about the governor, is I know sometimes they can be flaky. I try to test all of them as fast as I can, before I release. Lol
Right now I'm at 11 hours uptime, with multiple phone calls, emails, texting, etc. - with the default governor (hyper).
Just as an FYI to everyone... I was building 2 different kernels before (2 different sources), during my "beta" releases. I was testing some things, between the kernel I was building in the ROM, and the kernel I was building separately for everyone to flash. I decided to just build the ROM with the kernel sources that I was previously building separately. Lol
Now, I do have a 3rd set of sources for another kernel ( Lmao - those of you who follow my github source trees, know ) , which I may start a separate kernel for flashing with. I know this is all confusing, but I do have a point to all this. Lol
My point is, I know some people are having issues and some aren't - hence why I have been building different kernels to try and help those having issues. I haven't had any problems with just building and flashing the ROM (except for that time with multiple Mms. lol ), but I know all of our Notes are like different women.
So for my next release, I will build a separate kernel for people with issues to try (it will be in the 3rd post).
As always - questions, comments, jokes, etc... post away. Lol :highfive:
I like pickles and this rom runs quite well.
UGH ... just UGMFH
Just to confirm, on the regular ROM listed in the OP, there is no setting to change kernels? Because if there is I can't seem to find it...

About
http://aokp.co/about/
Background on this ROM
This is a port using cm10.1 for our device, and the VilleC2 AOKP build.
Special thanks to Sportsstar89 and poppy22 for their work - without which this port would not exist.
Status
Use at your own risk. If you try it, be courteous and supply logcats/solutions for issues you find.
Change log:
Code:
July 20, 2013 - Update to 7/19 cm10.1 kernel.
July 3, 2013 - small update. MusicFX replaced by DSP Manager since Music FX was not working correctly.
July 2, 2013 - Updated kernel to latest from 7/1 cm10.1
June 8, 2013 - NFC added courtesy of Chevy.
June 7, 2013 - Supercharged courtesy of Zepplinrox. NFC executable and libs included... no nfc settings in the settings menu currently.
June 5, 2013 - initial alpha release.
What's working:
I have tested:
06/05/2013
BT phone
wifi
phone calling
camera
basic settings manipulation
data
GPS
6/8
NFC
FM
WiFi Tethering
Not working?
06/09/2013
As in the cm10.1 build, brightness sensor sticks on a setting of "10240" - causing bright screen issues. By default, in AOKP, you can swipe on the status bar to manually adjust brightness.
06/05/2013
4.2 in-call volumes still not adjustable for ours and other devices (except for bt). Pushing the volume button actually adjusts mic gain.
Other bugs?
You tell me. I'll try to keep this up to date.

How to Install
1. Boot into recovery
2. Wipe data/factory reset
3. Install ROM
4. Install appropriate GApps (Goo.IM) http://goo.im/gapps
5. reboot
6. enjoy
* If you are updating the ROM, you must also reload gapps. gapps sits in /system, which gets formatted on Rom install.
Have general questions, or observations? kuzibri was kind enough to start a thread for these... here. Thanks, kuzibri!

1. Want to turn on your device with the camcorder or camera key? Try this app.
2. Want to turn off capacitive lights? Try adding this to your init.d folder.
3. Try a previous kernel - if it doesn't work, just reflash current build and gapps over to keep your data:

Yep. It's a complex problem. Most of the dev's with that capability no longer have the device, never had our device, or lack the time because they are working on more current devices.
Still, we're in better shape than some when it comes to dev support - so no complaints there.

Yeah we are in a development shortage right now but development isn't dead.
As of this moment I'm learning basic Android stuff and trying to make a complex custom rom. It seems difficult but I'm going to overcome it. I used a speedrom base and pushed apks from other roms into the framework and system apps. Its turning out pretty well for right now but there are small problems that will pop up such as the notification sounds window not opening up in settings. I'll get to the bottom of these problems soon hopefully and if all goes well this forum will have a new rom in town.

So, just checked battery usage, and it seems to be right on par with the last 10.1 build. The good news there, is that the build is not consuming additional resources with unanticipated process usage, etc.
Hopefully, your finding the same. :good:

Do me a favor... I'm using Nova Launcher... Try another launcher, and see if the behavior persists.
I'm using nova as well. It also doesn't work in temple run. Or other apps.
I tried Go launcher and clearing my cache but nothing.
EDIT: fixed. It's odd. You guys know Cydia. Well its substrate made it to android and I installed it. And I unlinked the files and now it rotates. Strange.

I just tried snap camera from playstore and it's camcorder focuses. That tells me it's not a ROM restriction, just that the stock app doesn't include the functionality.

Beta 1 notes :
Root - It's disabled by default, it has to be or it's an instant fail on the CTS! (Compatibility Test Suite). Good news you can just turn it on. Either in the superuser app -> settings or in Developer options.
A few more settings have been moved around. It was decided that no "advanced" user settings should be under developer options. Some were moved previously but with the beta 1 release the following have also been changed
Ram bar is now under interface
Media scan on boot is under system advanced options
Advanced reboot menu is now called Secure reboot and is under security.

Sent from my One using xda app-developers app
be sure when you come from another rom that you format system before you flash and as well that you use for first our gapps
there are some gapps currently around which use a bad lib (we use a newer one) which causes terrible fc issues.....and most gapps install as well a backup script so without format system the lib survives the flash
I was flashing slim gapps not sure which version tho but my problem resolved itself I wasn't able to recreate it. Must've been something on my end although I can't say what. Sorry for the confusion

Hey just wondering how the battery life is on slim compared to stock GE? Also I've heard that asop/cm ROMs weren't working well on the HTC one. Didn't really hear anything specific so just wondering what the main differences are from the GE. I've used slimrom a lot on my old s3/note and always preferred it over touchwiz.
Also just wanted to clarify if the swipe²on/off works on slim on 4.3? Or is that purely a kernel issue?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
So two things. One, can I flash from my old slim (the August 10th build of 4.3) without resetting?
And two. Is there any reason a custom kernel wouldn't work with this?
It's a great ROM, thanks for all the work you've put in.

Battery Performance on ROM's is hard to tell because it's so subjective. I will say this. I just got my HTC one, on stock ATT, with my usage, i was lucky to get 6 hours.
Once I unlocked, and install this ROM, i am getting between 9-10 w/o connecting to a charger. So i would say it's a hugh change from stock ATT 4.1.2 on my usage. which involved significant webrowsing, messaging, and screen time. Not a lot of calls (who uses a phone for that anymore!) Hope this helps.
Now is the difference between 4.1.2 and 4.3? or Stock w/ Sense vs. AOSP? Who knows.
Great ROM guys, I've been using it since alpha and it's only gotten better.
Is anyone else having trouble applying system fonts in ROM toolbox? Every time I try, I end up soft bricking it.

Welcome to VanirAOSP. Our mission is to deliver a clean optimized version of Android to as many devices as possible. This is not a kang rom. You will find versions of the features you love that we've rewritten and improved on plus a few we wrote ourselves. we've tried to acheive a more organized and cohesive setup to improve the user experience while correcting any performance regressions and improving functionality.
BY LINARO, I MEAN GLOBAL "-O2 -fstrict-aliasing".... we didn't just switch toolchains. Here at Team Vanir, WE GO HARD.
If you're the kind of person that needs options to change the font and color on every letter and expect the ROM to end up looking like kid's cereal box then GTFO. You will not find customizations that are done just because someone figured out how to do them. Everything in here has a purpose and is held to a high standard of coding.
General features:

Honestly haven't tried it yet bro
In AOSP roms the screenshot function is generally featured in the navbar or navring targets. Some roms usually feature it in the power reboot menu but this is antiquated and obsolete because all phones support screenshot functions natively now by pressing the power and volume down keys at the same time so i left it out. for those of you that wanted variety or a different set up... i added the screenshot capabilities to vanir actions located in the widgets section of the launcher (from navbar & navring also) which can be set as a desktop shortcut. I suggest trying out my flush memory utility also. it flushes page cache, inodes, and dentries, and suggests a garbage collection to the VM. It will clean up as much memory as possible (i got 400 mb once on my n7) and wont even remove your apps from memory like most of the crappy task killer-memory management apps do.
Downloading right now on my mobile network speed so I'm hanging out here for a while but excited for this ROM is there a script that we can use to make it so that we can underclock to 100 megahertz

uh.. IDFK. i don't have this device. if you look under performance settings you can adjust the minimum and maximum clock speeds though. also if you open terminal and type su then vanir config you will be able to change most of your kernel parameters through our underlying config binary.
Like the ROM but had no data. This happens to me in all ROM except actual cm. Guessing its cause I'm not in an lte area.

First glitch... After doing a backup in TWRP 2.6.3.0 , I do a reboot and the phone never comes back up. I get a very brief Samsung on the screen (not the glowing one), then it goes black...
Nothing happens again. If I pull the battery, the same thing happens again.
If I hold down the power button and vol up/down, I can get into recovery and restore the copy I backed up, when then if I boot from TWRP, it boots normally.
Note : (don't know if this is important) - I am running the UVLG3 modem.
If I do a normal shutdown (not a restart into recovery), the same problem occurs. So, as long as I dont ever have to shut down , restart, or have Android crash on me, I'm good... If one of those does happen, I have to do a restore.
NOTE: Coming into this ROM, I had a 100% clean EMMC and installed from a freshly formatted MicroSD. Also - I've had the same issue happen on HellyBean as well.
Seems to be the norm for any JellyBean CyanogenMod ROM for me. Maybe its the modem I'm running? Who knows.
Only ROMs I am able to run with any stability are ICS-based and then not even all of them.

I think that is an issue with TWRP 2.6.3.0 from what I have read, I updated to it once and had same type of problems. So I reinstalled TWRP 2.6.1.0 and I haven't had any problems with that version.

Another 2 issues - not sure if it's this ROM or something related to CyanogenMod...
1) I usually have to press the power button multiple times to get the screen to come on... The keys light up each time, but the screen doesnt. THe screen does seem to respond to swiping in the unlock direction... Just nothing displays.
2) NOT using the speakerphone - with the volume all the way up, people say they can hear an echo... And call audio gets really distorted at times (regardless of the volume).

Have you attempted to use Jamie's latest 3.0.100 uber kernel ? That helps the problem for that pesky screen problem..also disable the lockscreen in settings>security... Also I might not be 100% sure about this but with other base bands(radios) or what they call around here-modems distortion was a result of using a different BB so you had to trail and error quite a few...if I'm not mistaken blownfuze has a tip on the first page of his aokp ROM thread that talks about what to do about the speakerphone but I'm not sure if its going to fix your problem..just giving ideas

Remember you also need latest recovery to flash 4.4 roms
Edit: so like with like every other ROM I get reception problems where I would get almost full bars (LTE) I barely get one at best, and jumps to hspa+ to LTE to hspa+ all the time, and some times it sticks on 1 bar of LTE. Any idea why this happens?

That would be a problem with RIL. As pretty much 100% of ROMs will pull RIL from the same tree this makes sense you get it on all ROMs... Nothing I can really do about it, sorry.

you are going to need 2.6.3.3 it works really good and haven't encountered any problems, or problems restoring older 4.3 back ups or flashing them like some people report.
edit: i lie, i have the one bug that when using aroma, sometimes after installing, instead of going back to recovery, the screen goes black. but other than that, perfect.

The RIL included with all of the ROMs you flash is the best out there unless there is something I don't know of. Most RIL for this phone comes from this repo and folder:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_htc_msm8960-common/tree/cm-11.0/libril
AFAIK, not anything you can do about it.
