CM & AOSP bug, Willing to pay for fix - G2 General

So just about every single CM and AOSP rom share this one small bug that most users probably don't care about at all but I on the other hand cannot stand this bug and it is a deal breaker for me. This bug, is the rom not being able to remain powered off when plugged in for charging. For some reason every rom, once plugged in to charge will power itself back on if powered down to charge, no matter what you do...you can power it down, then plug it in to charge and it will power back on OR you can try plugging it in while on and powering down while already in and charging but it still just boots itself back on. For me this is a deal breaker and its a shame because we have so many great roms that other than this issue run amazing. Of all the roms i have tried I have found one rom that will actually remain powered off when charging and that is Vanir and Commotio.
If a developer can find a fix and be willing to share this fix with the dev community so all roms my use it I would be more than happy to throw money into their PayPal account. I am no sure what amount of money would be worth doing this but if a dev is willing to take this on, give me an idea of what you think is a fair payment and i will do my best to pay you.
MODS- if this thread is unacceptable please trash it.
I just really want all CM and AOSP roms to be able to charge while powered down!
Also, I would be willing to pay $50 bucks to the dev who can fix and share this.
I'd also like to share that i have noticed it is not just Vanir rom, it is the kernel baked into their roms, if i flash a custom kernel other than that of the one baked into their rom the function of charging whle remaining powered down no longer works, soo that leaves me knowing that it is kernel related.

From my experience s charge lasts longer when you charge the phone off also it charges cooler therefore helping the batteries life span last longer

I don't think this is a ROM issue. If the phone is completely shut down, the ROM isn't even loaded yet. It would be the bootloader, kernel, or some very low level code that turns it on. Possibly designed like this for fixing bricked phones or phones without buttons or broken buttons and unable to turn on otherwise.
Honestly I never even turn my phone off. Not sure why you'd want to keep your phone off for 8 hours but regardless I don't see this happening.

like i said, with all android phones i have had, i always get a better life span meanng daily and over all life span when i charge the phone while off, it is also something i just all and all prefer to do, the reasons arent really of anyones concerns but my own.
i am asking devs if they can find a fix, cause i know Vanir roms are capable of charging while powered down but for some reason all other AOSP and CM based roms don't so figure this is a possible fix if a dev decides to tackle it.
I don't have a linux os so i do not have a development environment so i cant do it

So it charges while off when using Vanir? Why not just use a Vanir rom and be done with it?
Isn't Vanir AOSP based?

because other roms are also very good roms and maybe the developer would like it to charge powered down as well or because i am sure there is other users who would the dev would like to make his rom be able to. It isn't just about me, i posted this so the dev community would be aware this issue exists in case they havent or with hopes that a dev who knows a fix would share so that every dev and their rom could benefit.
being that everyone seems so concerned with this thread i am suggesting a mod remove it.
I was simply offering money to a dev or devs who could possibly find a share a fix for the community
If i had any knowledge in code and source and all that i would try and tackle this issue but i do not and i also do not have a building environment to try and learn so all i can do is ask and offer.
People on XDA, i am unsure why everyone has this attitude like they are somebody.
I do not believe i have done any wrong by starting this thread, it was a simple request with me willing to pay because i would like to see all roms run perfect as though they should.

You haven't done anything wrong. Some people just feel the need to be critical about everything.
Let me get this right.. If you have the phone completely turned off, and then plug it in, it will turn on and boot up? I am running rooted stock on my G2, but have CM on an evo and have no problem with turning the phone off when plugged in, or with plugging it in when the phone is turned off, and keeping it off.
I never turn off my phone. Only time it's off is when I am rebooting into recovery for flashing or whatever... But I have to agree with the previous comment... When the phone is powered off, the rom isn't loaded, so it seems like it would be something else causing the issue. So it's really strange that only some ROMs would force it to turn on, and others wouldn't.

Was Vanir vs CM the only variable you found? Its the same recovery build and same kernel being used on both? Or is Vanir prepackaged with another kernel than CM?

Yeah vanir is the only one but as far as I know they use the CM kernel and I use the same recovery for the flashing of all ROMs
Sent from my LG-VS980 using Tapatalk

I'm thinking Vanir has to come with a unique kernel of their own.
And for the record I am not knocking the desire to have this feature, just trying to figure out the reasoning it works on some but not others. I really don't think it is a rom issue but a kernel issue. The GOOD news is you can CONFIRM that it works on the LG G2 using the Vanir rom, then the best place to start your quest is talking to that dev who makes that rom.
Also I would update the OP with a bounty listed. $20? $50? Dollar signs will get you noticed faster. Wish you luck on your journey.

I'm running CM11 and my phone charges while powered down. When I plug it up it will vibrate and show the LG splash screen, then it shows a battery icon with the battery percentage. The same thing that happens while on stock.

Im very curious as to what actually causes this, it happened to my note aswell on nearly all custom roms. I have a feeling it is a kernel, boot loader or a recovery thing that is causing this issue. The fact that it is on other devices other than the G2 either suggest's that this is supposed to happen, or it is incredibly hard to pinpoint and fix.

this is answered in omnirom thread.
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app

This is it? Really? I thought you would want a more important bug fixed, such as random reboots.. You know something that actually effects your phone while you're USING it... Smh lol
Sent from my LG-VS980 using Tapatalk

I have noticed it is not so much Vanir rom but the kernel baked in, if i switched to another kernel then the function of charging while powered down stops working, so if anyone was looking into this i can tell you that it is kernel related...

My Tbolt turns off constantly

Not sure whats going on, it doesn't reboot and it only does it when on battery (Not plugged in) When I am using the phone, actually touching it going through menus it normally stays on but as soon as I let it sleep or anything it turns off... I have updated it and ruued it and tried different roms re-rooted.... out of ideas but currently have a phone that doesn't work as a phone as it just turns off all the time, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sound like what many are calling the "sleep of death".
Dumb question, only having these problems when rooted and non stock ROM? So if you root, and leave it stock everything else, does it die? If you fully return to stock does it die? If so, and if it was me, Is exchange it.
If it doesn't die on the above, then:
Some phones prefer the interactiveX governor over ondemand...you can change this using speedtweak.sh on just about every kernel but ziggy's kernels. You can also try using setCPU to do it if you aren't comfortable using the terminal.
Read the thread of the ROM you are running to get more info about the kernel that its running on. The kernel devs here are usually very helpful.

It was a gifted phone purchased outright, I have no warranty through Verizon or anything, I have every intention of figuring it out.
It seems almost as if the issue is in the batter somewhere... It stays on and functions perfectly on the charger.. but once only on battery power it turns off..

So no thoughts on the battery thing then? These batteries do have some sort of "brain" in them right? Is there someway that could have become corrupt?
I was thinking this because it works so well on the charger, this has become a project phone for me at this point as I have acquired a G2X and get cheaper service and have 4G in my area on it anyways. So I am willing to try whatever, basically this is a very non stock phone, but atm has been RUUed to stock, and still has these issues, I have RUUed it a few times by this point.

I have exact same issue. I have three batteries and it does with all three. Mine too does not do it while plugged in. Tried different ROMS and Kernels and Radios to no avail. Didnt do it b4 I rooted. Started doing it when I switched to Gingerbread ROM. I am going to try going back to a Froyo and see if that helps. That is what I would suggest. I am probably going to try and put back to stock and Return. Luckily I bought at BestBuy and have warranty through them.

Periodically switching off, or not?

Hello all,
In the cyanogenmod Q&A, one can read, as a bug which is in fact a feature
"Phone reboots when plugging in charger in off state. This is a feature, but since people keep asking I've put it here in case it is important to you - why this is important I will never understand, why do people turn their phone off when charging?! Use Quiet hours if you want it silent - and CM7 does not have the obnoxious "battery full" notification that stock has."
(ref: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176411 ).
I do not use cyanogenmod myself (I am on stock ROM, rooted via CF-root kernel), but reading this questioned my own way of doing things. Each night, I turn off my SGS2 and plug it in order to recharge it.
Why do I turn it off? Simply because, from my experience and from what I read here and there, it seems to me a proper way to handle this kind of electronic device/computer. We all know that, whatever the quality of an OS, there is always the possibility that some zombie process start and are never stoped by the OS, thus using resources and leading to a general slow down/bad behavior of the device. Switching the device off periodically ensures that such zombie processes are stoped and do not become monster-zombie-processes.
I know that turning off periodically the device is not something everybody does. Some people here even told that they never turn off their device except when flashing.
I would therefore enjoy to read your opinion, based on experience or expertise, on the need/use or not of periodically switching off our devices.
Im on stock rom and make a point of rebooting when my phone gets to around 100/150 hours which is normally every weekend..it makes the phone a little quicker!
Oh, BTW, another reason why I turn it off when I sleep: it saves energy and hence reduces my carbon trace .

Do you mean randomly some time after plugging in the charger, but not the 100% notification?
Screen turns on when a charger is plugged in, and also at 100%. A custom ROM can fix the 100% notification.
randomly, comes on about 1-2 minutes after plugging in
i don't have the answer, but i think we're talking about powering the phone off then charging. it's supposed to just show a battery pic but is powering back on. it might be the kernel you're using. that's what people said it was when i tried Sprint's version. mine didn't power back on with this model, but i haven't tried it lately.
using Zedomax stock kernal, phone is off ,plug in to charge normall battery pic will appear after a minute or so it will boot up on it's own

Make sure that the rom you are using is one which is designed for the SGS i777 phone.
It might even be a good idea to re-download the rom just incase the first download
some how got corrupted during downloading.
Do a clean fresh "wipe data/factory reset" and re-flash the rom but don't flash any custom
kernels and don't install any apps at all until you have had enough time to see if the
problem still persists.
Flashing roms like any of the i9100 rom or any other rom which was not
intended for our phones can cause unexpected and random issues.
Good Luck!
I have the same problem. I turned off the phone to charge up, a min later, the phone automatically turns on by itself. I rooted it with Zedomax kernel (SGH-I777-ATTGalaxyS2RootStockZedomaxKernel) before. Could this be the cause? Any other users have the same problem?

Not true. There are minor differences between i777 ROMs and GT9100 ROMs. The main differences are the radio, kernel, and button mapping; which have all been fixed with Hellraiser and HapticFix.

My phone does the same thing. I don't consider it to be a problem because my phone is rarely ever turned off. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. If it bothers you enough, you could always do a warranty exchange. Personally, I'd rather live with a minor annoyance, than have AT&T send me a refurbished replacement.

You can try out nomoarpowah app. It replaces the battery charging 'off' screen with one that has reboot controls and shows the time.
It might be able to stop the phone from booting itself. Not to mention it's really cool and will only work on Samsung phones.

Try Entrophy's kernel to see if it does the same. Screen off charging is controlled by the kernel from what I'm told. When I was running MIUI it use to do that until they added the function in the kernel.
EDIT:
I just decided to try it since I never charge that way....lol and mine did it as well.

Well if it's any consolation my phone is doing it too. I guess I never left it off long enough. Starts right up after a minute or so.
But once this issue gets figured out I'm sure you'll really like the app. It's good to turn off the phone every once and awhile. And with it you can set it to boot the phone when it's done charging or at a specific time.

I'm also having this problem. Is it hardware? I have the latest unnamed rom. Phone won't stay off no matter what...I've tried pulling the battery and everything.
I don't have this issue on miui if it helps...
IIRC, I also didn't have the issue with UnNamed, but its been a while since I ran that.

i am having the same issue, using a zedomax kernel, if anyone has a solution i would like to hear it, i like to be able to shut the phone off when charging it some times, it seems to charge faster when its off
This is a known issue with my kernel's 11/23 release, and ONLY that release for my kernel, it was a result of adding support for the Interactive governor.
I have no clue what the results might be for Zedo's kernel - he released one kernel, lots of people had problems with it, then he disappeared. He probably enabled Interactive governor too.
It could also affect CM7, I know for a while CM7 builds had issues with not supporting LPM at all - CM7 devices would go to the bootanimation and stay there.

What part did you use? I haven't been able to find an I777 one, just the I9100 part from that thread.
I was able to get mine to not show the charging paused warning by cleaning but I don't think it will last.

I am having a similar problem. The battery icon flashes when I plug my charger in. I know the phone still works because occasionaly I can get it turn on if I tried hard enough. It won't charge. I tried to clean out as best as I could, and not instead of flashing it automatically just turn on as soon as I put battery in. Now when I turn it off it just restarts automatically (phone can be used I just can no longer keep it off without taking battery out). Can anybody help?
I'm on I777UCKK6 if it helps.

I forced shut down this phone and now its not turning on...

I was installing aosp, flashed a kernel, booted up the phone and it was booting too long so I decided to turn it off by holding power button and it did turn off but its not turning on again and thanks to awesome new phone designs where you can't take the fu**** battery off, what the hell im supposed to do now ? I wont disassemble a screen that's already factory poorly slapped on to the phone so just I could disconnect the battery... Who knows how much I will have to wait for battery to discharge now... Any solution maybe ? I just hope I didn't brick something by doing this it wouldn't make sense to just die when I was just turning it off when it was stuck on booting... This is the first time I have seen something ridiculous as this happen... Now the phone is cold and its probably not draining the battery, how great...
UPDATE: Yes the phone turned on when i disconnected the battery,

did you try to charge the phone? whether LED is turning on? hold the power button until you get vibration, it may take some 12secs.

Yes i did, there is no led and the phone doesn't vibrate no matter how long i press the power button, I ended up opening the phone and when i get to the battery connector i will report if the phone turns on or not, i hope it does...
Phone ended up turning on when i reconnected battery, at least it aint dead
I remember that i waited like 4 hours when installing rom( i guess it was a mui rom). So after that i was able to open twrp again. So i tried to install same rom again and waited another 4 hours to get twrp menu. Finally small auriel rom saved my day after that. So what in implying is: be patient. For example if windows boot took long give it some time. IF you force it to close- Like many other electronic devices - PC or phone will behave strangely...

I flashed a kernel that was apparently non compatible with aosp so actually it would never do anything and the fact that my phone was not able to turn on after force shut down is completely ridiculous and I'm afraid now it might happen again if system gets frozen or something; I might need to remove the screen again...
Heyyo, weird turn of events indeed hmm... So you were trying to flash AOSP from Google with a LeEco kernel on top? I'm unsure if that would work since it would require vendor blobs and device tree for the Le Max 2 to be properly compatible.
I'd recommend for custom ROMs to check out the ones currently available and stable Nougat. You can try the experimental Oreo builds but they aren't what I would call stable for regular use.
OmniROM would definitely be the stable Nougat ROM I'd recommend first. It's definitely stability above all else and is a great first way to get your feet wet or stick with for custom ROMs.
There's other ROMs you can try such as SlimRoms if you want more recent tweaks and they have been coming along quite nicely. SlimRoms is more of a balance between performance, battery and stability.
If you want optimization over stability there is BlackX as another example.

Heyyo(?) Why omni? If I say Omni vs DU, what will be your pick? And which one will give better battery?

Heyyo!
Hmm that's a tough one since both share a lot of code but andr86rus would probably know best since they are his ROMs so DU might have a slight edge over OmniROM.
I switched on my letv and it said file manager stopped I couldn't do anything so I switched it off and it wouldn't come on again
