Did you back up your TApartition while on the old firmware?
If you have a backed up TA and an unlocked bootloader life is easy. If not the above should work

Hi I have now JB STOCK ROM 2.20.401.3 rooted, can I upgrade without loosing any apps to rooted +STOCK ROM 2.20.401.5+ ???
I tryed official upgrade but it's not working.
So if I download official ROM 2.20.401.5, and update in recovery mode, the phone will remain rooted or no?
Thank you!

Hey guys,
Can I still use the easy root tool to root after updating to the 4.4.4 firmware?
Thanks
Nope
I tried but it is getting stuck on CREATING VM (JAVASUCKS)
Same here... +1 Stuck on "Creating VM... "
No, the known flaws in 4.4.2 are all patched for latest fw, only current way around it is to downgrade, root install dual recovery and flash a pre-rooted zip from CWM.
In other words;
Go back to .314 (4.4.2) firmware,
Root,
Install a recovery,
And flash the new 4.4.4 firmware via recovery.

There are new rumors that you can root 314 - select preserve mode in SuperSU - and go OTA... and root will remain...

Yeah I've heard that aswell. It's most likely working. Shall I try it? Just spent a few hours getting 4.4.4 work on my phone with root...
Ah right - Fuuuun...
I think i'll just carry on stock until someone sorts out a rooting method for 4.4.4 that doesn't involve so much faffing about lol.
Thanks for all the replies
Just keep a eye in Z3 Section too
4.4.4 firmrare is a near direct port
Hi folks,
I have a new 4.4.4 Z2, should I root it now or wait after the Lollipop version is installed?
Will I be able to install the Lollipop when rooted?

Now struggling for a night with unlocking the bootloader, sooms that W7x64 has a prob with it so he can't find the driver.
I'm becoming a nerd
Hello,
I'm Yazan and I'm new to this developing stuff. I had an old Samsung that I used to play with and rooted it but moving to the Xperia z2 was a big upgrade. I have very low experience and would love to root my Xperia z2. I have updated it to the generic lollipop update and would like to know if there is a way to root it. And also could I downgrade to 4.4.4 KitKat root it and install a rooted 5.0 stock ROM?
Thanks for the help. I'll be waiting. :fingers-crossed:
You need to downgrade it to 4.4.2 Kitkat, root it, install Dualrecovery, and then flash a prerooted lollipop firmware via recovery.
Please search the forum for how to do it..

... So I could flash (downgrade) a stock 4.4.2 ROM directly from 5.0.2 using flashtool, then root it and install dual recovery then flash the 5.0 pre rooted rom using the recovery? And btw my bootloader is locked should I unlock it first.

No need to unlock bootloader... Just do as you said...
The intention of downgrading firmware is to gain root without unlocking bootloader.

Haha, thanks I'm sort of new... Thanks though. and which ROM should I choose... 17.1.2.A.0.314 or 17.1.1.A.0.402. My device is D6503
You may use 17.1.2.A.0.314 to downgrade.

Check this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e/general/backup-lollipop-5-1-soak-test-t3144162
It's really simple, and as you already have TWRP, you don't need anything extra. But still, make a backup of your current rom.

I don't think... so downgrade back to 4.4.4 root it then flash pre-rooted 509 firmware it's available in z3v Android Development.

no, you will have to flash back to 4.4.4, re-root, install recovery and flash the pre-rooted lollipop zip.
Am I able to keep my data? Its so annoying to redownload everything. I know there is an option on flashtool to keep your data but some people say it can corrupt things.
