Hi,
i have a stock ROM and i am using 361 DPI with my Samsung Galaxy S4.
Themer is working, but the themes are not "made" for my dpi. So i would like to know if there is a possibility to change the dpi in themer that the themes would fit to my screen than?
Thanks

The only thing you could for now is to make all your other apps have a custom DPI, but Themer still needs to be running on stock DPI. When you install Themer on your phone, it picks up that you have a S4 with stock DPI. Changing this makes Themer confused as now all the themes that are available weren't configured for this new DPI. It's an immense process for us to integrate custom DPI into Themer, so we'll have a look at it in the future once we have more resources.

Hello everybody,
One week after I got my SGS2 I realized that the screen is way too big for this resolution (480x800). So I started playing with some screen density changer applications from market. Everything worked well, as I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275768 . But, I had some problems with the Market (couldn't download the most important applications) after I changed my screen's DPI.
Recently I found a software in market (LCD Denisty Modder) which in the Pro version offers you a fix for downloading applications from Market.
Ok, my question is : What if we change the screen density with the one on the Samsung Galaxy Note, and we use a Galaxy Note system dump to get the TouchWiz widgets. Could it work?
It would be nice to see some Galaxy Note wanna-be ROMs and believe me, after you use a lower DPI, you don't wanna come back to the stock density.
What do you think?

There's a limit by how much you change the ppi on the phone. I'm not sure why you'd want some touchwiz widgets from the Note
Hi everyone, I am looking for a sammy stock ics rom which has multi dpi, I have looked all over the internet but none of the custom roms seem to state they support multi dpi, can anyone help?

it is not down to the rom mate it is down to if the developer of the rom has changed a few apks and framework to support it. so for example if you was to go in android development most of the roms there now are multi dpi anyways..if you was to install cm9 or any aokp roms you will find they are multi dpi..try wanam lite...that is one...anyways it is down to choice buddy and the only way you get to find out is by trying..but your best bet is cm9 or aokp or try wanam or foxhound for mdpi
Yea I know that mate, I am currently on slim rom but I am wanting to go back to sammy stock but I hate the dpi at 240, I've been running aosp roms at 182 for so long 240 looks huge lol.
Thanks for the info, I will give wanam a try

no probs mate..just ask in the rom's thread if the rom supports it and most of the time nice people will reply to you...if i am not mistaken anyway most roms now on ICS do support that.
Well ive tried a few different sammy roms and all that come with stock dialer all have the same problem, no one has seemed to have looked in to making them multi-dpi which is a real shame :/
So now i have to figure out whether i want sammy rom that looks huge or aosp at 182dpi....
I cant even find any information on the net to decompile the apk's and change them to work with different dpi
Shame, real shame.....
If you don't mind going back to GB, Hyperdroid is great and multi DPI compatible (once you download petsasj's modified touchwiz launcher, anyway)
Also I'm pretty sure doc (doctorcete, one of the hyperdroid devs) made a post somewhere on XDA on making apps multi dpi compatible. I know that the hyperdroid devs put a lot of time getting apps like the stock calendar to be multi DPI compatible.

I feel exactly the same. Nobody seems to care about dpi issues.
The only answer I have seen is 'use another dialer' which is insane to me, as SURELY someone has a stock dialer with dpi adjusting working correctly on an ICS stock rom.
Depends how badly having the dialer the way it is annoys you.
Hello guys. I've had the same problem with quite a few ROMs. But finally i found that changing DPI on my phone no matter the ROM its as easy as to editing a line of text on the "build.prop" file.
You have some options to change density on your device.
1./ The easiest and safest is. Get from market "LCDDensity for Root" its free. And changes the DPI "on the fly" and the change is not permanent it will revert on next reboot.
2./ As root user you can edit /system/build.prop look for " ro.sf.lcd_density=180" and change it to the value you feel comfortable and reboot
3./ If you don't want to mess with system files directly, on the market there's also free apps just look for "build.prop" editor
or last ... wait until your ROM developer include the feature.
I Hope this could help..

Ive given up on looking for multi dpi launcher and dialer etc, all roms i have tried just use alternative's so ive stuck with 240dpi.
Reply to post above:
I wasent asking how to change dpi, thats the easy part, the problems start after as touchwiz launcher, dialer, calendar, calculater, email etc etc is not capable with different dpi apart from default 240.

I am coming from an S2 where I set LCD to 160 to simulate 720p display. GORGEOUS just what I wanted.
I figured going to S3 it would "BE" 720p all set. no. they blew everything up larger so it looks like the S2 stock. IE everything too big.
I was reading that lowest safe value is 240 so I set that. lcd density did not work so I modded the build prop in rom toobox
phone reboots screen LOOKS AMAZING for about 10 second then it freezes on me and is unresponsive. eventually it reboots.
in the process of using adb to reset builb prop back to 320
suggestions? I am on the leaked JB rom using Nova launcher. How do I get a lower LCD density to work ?
ok I ended up just reflashing the rom took 2 tries but that did it reset it. I tried 260 and it almost froze up again but then I got a samsung keyboard crashed.
AHA that must be what was freezing it so while it was responsive I jumped in and changed to swype. problem solved. tried 240 again works GREAT !! and wow soo soo much nicer now at 240
only problem is for some reason the swype keyboard LACKS a MIC icon to enable speech typing. anyone have any idea's how to fix that? the swype keyboard on my l2 has the mic icon ??
Just edit the build.prop file and change the value to 240,it works perfectly fine. And by the way I always use 240 dpi
《swagged from aokp》
i first have to gain access to the build prop file which i could not do done thevSamsung keyboard kept crashing the device
reinstalle rom tried 260 itworked keyboard still failed but did not kill the system so i changed it then i was able to set 240
itmight be because i am using jelly bean leak. Swype in jb sucks does not auto space and no microphone icon to invoke speech recognition
boy the s3 is so much nicer at 240
Can I change the DPI for sammy based ROMs? or is it only for AOSP ROMs?

You can change DPI for any ROM.
..out of curiosity, the S3 has a 720p display no? Is 240 a more true resolution for 720p on this phone? .. a little confused
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
not sure about "true" resolution. but 240 is what I "expected" going from 800x480 to 1280x720
instead what they did was to "enlarge" all the objects in scale so relative to physical phone dimensions the screen objects remains the same size IE consumed more pixels.
my problem now is that the samsung keyboard is not compatible with resolution 240 (SO MAKE SURE you change keyboards before you change screen density)
but the swype keyboard that is baked in is HORRIBLE. it does not auto space and has no MIC button for speech.
not sure what AOSP roms means (certain dev group??) I am using the "stock" leaked JB rom. you can NOT USE Touchwiz !! you must use an alternative launcher from what I am reading. I do anyway (nova) ie be warned.

Hmm. May try it. On my previous phones. S1 and S2 the default DPI was 240 and I always lowered it to 180. But since having the S3 and phone size I've just let it be. Can't stand TW launcher so that's been replaced with HOLO and I use the stock JB keyboard. So hopefully I won't run into any issues if I decide to change it up
Oh and AOSP- stands for Android Open Source Project. Its pure vanilla android. No skins, tweaks, ... its pure android from source. CM is built off of AOSP..
AOKP- Android Open Kang Project. Built from AOSP with a lot more bells and whistles.

what S2 did you use. the difference is important since sprint got the larger 4.5" screen (ie almost same size as S3)
I set my S2 to 160. I set te S3 to 240 because it was suggested that any lower would cause issue since that moves into "tablet" resolutions.
I am VERY satisfied at 240 on the S3. it feels "right" now and not "tonka toy larger"
Paranoid Android for the win.
You set DPI's per-app and it's built on the CM10 base.
WOH I need that !!! (set dpi per app) I just discovered the CAMERA app does not scale. so its using half the screen now hehe but at least it works
is there a paranoid android rom for the S3? is it JB based? and if available for the S3 any functionality issues ?

I'm actually currently running PA 2.18.1 and a stock sammy too for some testing, using Siyah's dual boot kernel.
I changed the dpi to 240 but barely didn't notice any difference?
what I did:
-edit the system/build.prop (thru root browser)
-change this "ro.sf.lcd_density = 320"
-to this "ro.sf.lcd_density = 240"
my default setting even before editing the build.prop
-Nova launcher
-7x7 desktop grid
rom at sig
huh the difference was INSTANT and HUGE for me as soon as it finshed booting. everything got smaller and more detailed.
I am also using the max grid size (7x6 I think in nova) huge improvement.
yeah 240 deforms the stock dialer too. pitty I LOVE the stock dialer. its actually the first stock dialer where I don't want to change anything at all. gorgeous.

[MOD] 240 DPI stock Dialer for all jellybean roms[Universal Flasher]
Nice exactly what I need alas it does not appear to work gonna try flashing again and post in that thread. thank you for the link!
Mod does work, try clearing Dalvik cache.
By the way, do stock Clock app FC for you too?
I can not get it to work. neither the 240 or the restore worked for me.
the nandroid backup worked to get me "back" so Iwill try again and clear dalvik and see what happens.
yes clock crashes for me too. Grrr got to find a replacement for that too now.
have you found a swype keyboard that has the MIC icon so I can do speech? my s2 has it but the S3 does not
I tried it again. mod DOES NOT WORK on my phone. once again contacts has stopped and it crashes.
contacts itself works fine as long as I don't touch the "dialer" phone tab.
I cleared cache and delvik fixed permissions still no joy. does not work and neither does restore.
is this for ICS or JB ? that might be why it does not work.
This mod should work on all firmwares. I tested it on Omega 27.2, which is based on latest - DLIB - firmware. Not sure if mod will work on odexed rom, you should ask the author about it.
Hi,
I've been using CM since I got my i9100 almost a year ago and I've always been very happy with the developers' work -and still am.
I have what may be kind of a noob question though: the i9100 has a 218 ppi display but is set to run on 240 dpi -while Google's Nexus get a dpi which is very close to the screen ppi and with the same ratio ppi/dpi the i9100 should have a dpi between 218 and 221. I know there are apps and tweaks to get that dpi and I'm actually using them but why don't the developers change the i9100 dpi by default? 240 dpi looks fine with Touchwiz but with CM everything looks kind of big and imo CM looks better on Nexus Phones.
Thanks for your answer and sorry for the bother if this issue has already come up.
PS: some other ROMs -Paranoid Android comes to mind- allow in their default settings to change the phone DPI, this little option would actually be nice and users wouldn't require to install apps or modify files
The only thing stopping us from releasing Themer on other resolutions is that we don't have the resources to re-build each theme for the ones we'd like to support, including: 480x854 (lots of devices), 800x1280 (Galaxy Note 1), 768 x 1280 (Optimus G), and any other phone you might have.
If anyone would like to help out, let us know. This requires extreme attention to detail, skills with Photoshop, and deep familiarity with the Themer design tools (including Everything Widget). Obviously you also need to have a device with one of the above (currently unsupported) resolutions.
Please note that when we talk about resolutions, we are referring to the out-of-the-box available screen resolution, excluding any space taken up by softkeys/navigation bar.
If you want to work on this, PM me. Please explain why you'd be a good candidate (examples of themes you've built, proof of Photoshop expertise, etc.)
Thanks!

Just guessing...
Most of the modders - like me - uses different DPI resolutions. For example I modded my downloaded theme to match my 190 dpi setting, moving icons, shadows, and so on. Would not be a nice idea if the elements should be placed relative to screen, instead of fixed-pixel-based position ?

Guys,
There is no need to individually create themes at each DPI. There are plenty, CM Theme chooser and Buzz Launcher that both are DPI independent. Maybe dig around in there code to learn how, but having a theme for each DPI might be a mistake, as people will use other launchers if the theme they want isn't usable

I agree that it is a misstake. I wan't my navigation at 70% or 36 DPI and this means that I can't see any theme in this launcher, but if I change to stock layout and apply a theme and then change back to navbar at 70% the themes still work great. Is there a way to see and apply themes if you don't have stock dpi and navbar? If not it's a dumb move by the developers sense the themes seems to work fine.
It seems like it could be a great launcher if it worked "like it should", but I uninstalled it after a few mins and wen't back to Nova.
Hope you fix the launcher so people can change rom, dpi, navbar etc without the app complaning about it and not showing any themes...
