I have rooted my month old Moto Maxx to 4.2.2 12.15.15. What are the benefits of going back to stock & taking the OTA & then trying to re-root over just installing a new ROM ..say CM? I got the message that the OTA for 4.4 is available...Whats my best bet? I'm happy just being rooted & able to get rid of the bloat.
I think you may be in the wrong device forum. This is for the Droid RAZR released in 2012. We have no OTA update for 4.4 in sight. I think your looking for the droid Maxx. That device thread can be found here:

Hi, my friend has a RAZR MAXX on Verizon and want's to update to ICS.
Right now he's on stock GB, rooted with CWM.
Can anyone give some insight on a process I should go with?
I'm not to familiar with MOTO and their bootloader stuff.
I've got an Epic 4G and it's way easy to flash and mod.
He's looking for a rooted STOCK ICS rom.
I've tried searching already and I can't really figure it out.
MOTO is very confusing, especially since I don't own a device.
Thanks in advance guys.
Verizon has offered me the Razr Max because my Rezound has had some serious issues, I gladly took them up on the offer. Never owned a Motorola device but am aware of the locked down bootloader. My first question, Has the Razr received the ICS update over the air?? 2nd, Is there anything special I need to know or do before I update the OS if the ICS is trying to update when I first boot up the device. Going to start reading up on all the quirks of the phone but thought I would just throw it out there. Any input would be helpful.
Thanks,
Vinny
Is the SafeStrap recovery still working for the ICS update? Is this the best recovery to use for a new Motorola owner who has some experience with other rooted phones?
I may sound like a noob but i have some idea of what im doing. I had a droid 2 rooted with z4 root and was running cm7. I got my razr maxx in april ran stock ics for a lil bit which i got from the soak test moto did. I decided to root it dont remeber at this moment which root utility i used, but i got it from xda. My problem is i cant find any forums for just the maxx or xt912. I loved my custom ro for my d2. Now i want jellybean or a custom rom for it. But unsure of the bootloader. Im running safestrap 2. Something. Help need info

Can the tutorials in this forum be used for the Verizon Droid Razr MAXX as well? I didnt see a specific forum for the Razr MAXX just this one and the MAXX HD. I also have a couple of other questions.
1) whats the best software for backing up my existing image incase I brick my phone?
2) Do I need a separate piece of software to back up my phone after its rooted with a new ROM?
3) Is 4.4 kitkat the latest ROM available?
4) Is the Razr MAXX capable of running 4.4?
Sorry, Im a complete noob when it comes to smartphones but I want to upgrade to 4.4 because LG has a smart watch that I want that requires 4.4 on yoru phone.
Thanks,
47 views and no one can answer these rather basic questions?

1) You can't,the best way to return to stock is with Matllgrof's utility or Rsd Lite, these are computer programs
2) You can backup your rom with the same custom recovery that allows you to flash it,Safestrap or BMM
3) Yes
4) Ofcourse
Btw,Razr Maxx and Razr are the same phones, the only difference is in the battery.
