another repair needed for the Ultra! - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Most of you know me, or have seen me around.... so are probably aware of my, 8 week cold turkey stint without my Ultra.
Reason being: There was a small repair needed.
... However today I took my family on a small tramp, in the sun, to a water hole for a swim..
I was taking some picture with my Ultra, and the screen started flickering... so i powered it off and then back on... 'black screen'
Everything was still working, but black screen. (obviously can't see anything) Went to do a hard power off, by holding the red button, and hmmm whats that. the white humidity paper is red. **crap!** the lens on both the front and back have fog all over them. No I've never even taken my device underwater, it may have received a few splash's today, but caps are always closed... and they were today.
conclusion:
The last repair was completed, and the device was not sealed properly...
So... awaiting a response to my rather lengthy email... (very polite) and will see what the company say whom i bought it from.
They are based in Hong Kong, and it cost me $120 NZD to send it there and back... (I had to pay both freight costs)
SO.... there you go. fricken awesome! My device is dead again!

Oh god no.. I don't know what to say. The typical thing now is that you'll ship it away (again) and we'll receive 4.4 the day after. Just watch it happen.

hey lord I send you a private message. nothing important but. i'm going off topic but can you tell me or any body knows how to make the screen home page larger or to expend once the DPI has downsize to 280 DPI

In the imortial words of Toyta: Bugger

Oh man that sucks. Maybe you could buy a new one and when this one finished, you just have to sell it?

Will have a think. If the company even reply and acknowledge their fault....

Would you consider just buying another Z Ultra in your country?

Not for sale here, they are all imported

So basically it didn't survive the water test? Makes me think twice now with regards to taking my Z Ultra in the water...
It's a shame your not covered by insurance.

Oh my ... Sorry for your loss :/
They can't replace it instead of repairing ? i mean that's a lot of money especialy if you have to send it back again !

Yeah, Thats what I'm saying man. The freight charges could have paid for another phone. I'm sure there's some reputable online retailers that does RMA for free?

yeah but we are talking about NZ dollars here so the $120 is only about 50c US
as a comparison they are currently selling imported for about $6-800

This is bad news Hamdogg, you didn't got much change for enyoing this device. Hope this will be solved for you in good way.

crossing fingers that he will buy new ZU

I've used it in the rain, before I had the initial repair. worked fine, the humidity paper was still white. BUt the last repair company was complete rubbish. Was not my call as it was shipped to Hong Kong (where i purchased it) and they had it repaired.
So if your device is new, and not been opened then you're safe.

Yeah i'll get it repaired, and then sell it. I've bough a C6833 in New Zealand. Its not a sony store, but at least I don't have to ship it overseas. Should arrive next week I'm guessing. I was looking at the Z1.... but just couldn't do it. size of screen is obviously more important to me than a better camera... plus i have the QX10 so there's that.

If not, I'll just return it and get a new one since I'm within my 30 day window Not to mention, there is 1 dead pixel I could technically complain about but would let slide if I can get a refund.
Your within your warranty period, take it back for price adjustment. If they *****, return for full refund, drive 4 blocks up the road and buy a brand new one for $9.99.

I got my new phone early last week, saw it on sale this week, called Customer Service and they gave me a $90 credit on my account. I'm sure they'll do the same for you.

Broken screen after 2 weeks.

I just had a horrible experience today.
I was putting my phone on the fireplace and caught the corner on the edge of the phone.
You can imagine my shock when I looked at the screen and it has a number of cracks across it and looks shattered in the lower left corner.
This was only a slight tip but it still took out the screen.
Has anyone any idea how much it costs to replace the screen here in Ireland.
I only have the phone 2 weeks and this happened. I'm devastated.

Use your phone insurance to get it repaired. Job done.
I don't have phone insurance. Car phone wear house wanted €15 per month and I could not afford to pay that.
I was going to see if I could insure it now with a third party and leave it a week before reporting the problem.

I've no issue with you scamming an insurance company - I'm firmly of the belief that there is a special place in hell for those parasitic bastards. But if you do go legit, I'd expect to pay easily over €200. I had to replace my screen in Sweden and it set me back the equivalent of €300 so I would guess Ireland is probably not that far off.
fonefunshop.co.uk charges about €250 plus shipping I'd guess and will deal with customers in Ireland.
Found this on adverts.ie. €165 but that sounds very cheap considering that to buy replacement screens alone to fit yourself is more than that. Would be wary.
And what CFWH is doing is extortion.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
No it's not, it's insurance. That's how insurance works, if it was extortion they'd come round and break your phone if you didn't pay!

If you take it to a Samsung Repair Center it will cost £140.00 and they will repair it the same day. My cousin smashed his and that's how much they wanted to replace it. Buying it of eBay or going anywhere else will cost you more.

How do you insure a product without some kind of product inspection of some sort? I don't do insurances, but it is stupid if companies offer insurances without examining the product in the first place.

Yes it is you pleb. It's fraud, end of. And the reason we're having to pay £15 a month is so that the insurance companies can recover some of the costs from people carrying out bogus claims like you're encouraging him to do.

I contacted Samsung Repair and they gave me the number for Fondmenders in the GPO. I called them and they will replace the screen for €160.00
Its going in on Thursday and should be ready Friday.
I also get insurance for €37.00 per year with Zurich so I'll keep that just in case something else happens to it another time.
€37.00 per year is a long way off what Car Phone Warehouse where charging.
Anyway I'll know on Friday if I get a happy ending.
Don't you have something like household insurance in Ireland?
Something similar happened to me.. 3 days after i got it, dropped it in SAND (yes, SAND!)
The edge on the left side got chipped, like a small paranthesis ( - it was outsided the used screen, in the space between the used screen and the edge.
However.. 2 days later.. it got stolen, i never got around to fix it
Now i've got a new one..

Look who's calling who the pleb, when my phone gets spoilt I buy a new one, I won't be insuring a phone for any reason.
And since I work for an insurance company don't tell me that the £15 recovers some costs because it's bs.

If your saying that what I was considering is fraud then what do you call it when the insurance company pay an uninsured no tax and no licence driver then put my premium up to cover the cost 3 fold.
Don't talk to me about insurance fraud when the biggest fraudsters are the insurance companies them self.
I have had lots of occasions when the insurance companies screwed me over.

Just to update on the broken screen.
My phone went in to FoneMenders in the GPO Arcade (http://fonemenders.ie/) yesterday morning at 9:30
They replaced the screen within the hour and only charged €159.99
I had got prices from other compaines as much as €270.00
The phone looks brand new so I'm over the moon with the repair, very professional.
I now also have a flip cover and screen protector on the device. Only short of wrapping it in bubble wrap
I really don't want to go down that road again.
I still have my insurance policy on the device so should anything happen again I have that to fall back on.
I'll never understand why people don't insure their phones straight away for this exact reason...

No insurance obviously why im posting... Does anyome have any experience sending back to lg to get it repaired? I got a quote from a place in chinatown ny for 200... And lg wont quote me until i send it in...was wondering what others have done or recomendations.... I have an upgrade on my plan i can steal so i can also sell the phone ebay...but not suring how well that would go.....
What ya'll think?
Dunno, what version is it? Maybe you can make a dev very happy with it, if you give up on it.
Selling it for parts might only work later in its life cycle

If you got some spare time and nifty fingers you could wait for replacement screens to be sold. Or maybe use it as a htpc or something.
I have insurance with T-Mobile because I just joined them and their Jump program includes it but when I was with Sprint my ex broke her S3 and we had no insurance, I just called them up and asked for it on the phone and they added it and then I waited a few days and put in my claim and got a new phone after paying deductible. So give it a shot and call and ask to add insurance, maybe you'll get lucky.
List it on eBay you will be shocked as to what you will get for it.

Nah. Some guys girl broke hers like 2 days ago. Threads around here somewhere.
LG G2
Add the insurance if you don't have it. You have 30 days to do it and the phone hasn't even been out that long so you can definitely add it. Wait a couple days and make a claim. It'll cost you $199 on most carriers, maybe all of them, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new one. And if you want to keep the old one for some reason or donate it to a dev somewhere as suggested earlier then report it as lost or stolen. You won't be able to use it on any carriers but for development or WiFi functions you could still use it up to you.

QX-10/QX-100 Official Sony case for Xperia Z Ultra

Hi there, since yesterday was my birthday, I decided to get a QX-10 as a gift: I was perplexed at first, but now that Sony decided to give us a proper case/adapter, I went for it.
But, the only news I can find is the one saying that it was announced.
Has anybody any guess on when it will be available?

Supposedly end of Jan but don't quote me on it. Only announced for Hong Kong so will have to be an ebay jobbie.
I am looking around as well.

Well, I actually ordered the QX10 just because they announced this case, they better release it in Europe and US too... but hey, I may import it as long as it costs more or less the same...
20/30 euros are fine, 50/60 are NOT.

My QX10 is finally here, and I'm impressed with the overall quality.
But, there is no freaking way of attaching it on the Ultra.
I'm thinking now of getting some double sided tape on a case and attach the included adapter to it and see if it actually works...
I don't want to get a Z case just to cut the edges off (also because my wife has a Z, so it would be handy anyway)...

Little update: sick of waiting on Sony to give us a proper release date (they never do), I decided to get my just replaced case, the original clip and some adhesive strips i had lying around.
I simply attached two of them on the clip, attached the clip onto the case, and that's it, solved once and for all.
Every single strip can hold up to 2 kilograms, so I think 4 kilos will be enough for the lens...
And as a bonus they are detachable (you have to rotate applying a certain amount of force, or better yet going under it with a sharp object or a credit card etc), so they won't ruin the original clip.
Now when a colleague or a friend asks to try it I'll reply... go get yourself one, you cheap bastard!

Some pics to share. Taken from a Chinese website.
@leechoonwee there's no point in sharing the pics and not telling us if you actually bought it or not... they seem pics taken from the last CES...
And of course, if you bought it, the link please!

I'm sorry about that. I found this on a chinese website but this is not from CES definitely but from Sony in Taiwan. Probably some staff in there already got hold of the stock and took some pictures.
I have already ordered from here

None here but this unit from Taiwan, not Singapore.

One of that picture is my phone lol
This is a little concerning if I am honest, the 4K video heat thing is a bit obvious though and you should only be taking short videos with it.
Definitely going to be waiting a little while to see how the launch in the uk goes before deciding what I get

I also do not see it as a problem but as normal, since 4K requires more processing power!
Yup its true... I think this problem is in international set. Taiwan uses another model.

if that is true, I guess the question is if the next batch is what is currently being shipped around the world? Has the whole of that first batch already gone out to customers???

Hmm no such problems.
I've gotten two Z1 Compact and both had the gap. One more than other.
I don't know if it is relatively normal or simply a not so good construction by Sony.
Has it been confirmed that the gap compromises the waterproof qualities of the phone or is it just sloppy construction??

I guess it's the construction. But I didn't pay my money for sloppy QC.. My front camera alignment is way off. The hole is nearly touching the glass edge

Read and understand first before writing something. The phones with problems from Singapore.

Mine have the gap too.
White unit from Taiwan.
Actully, don`t care about the gaps, it`s just not quite exactly glued the glass, need to rotate counterclockwise just a little bit
Much more concerned about single speaker plaiyng when incoming calls
This is a fail of the fails!
This is a little worrying. But as with all new devices, there's release bugs.
Ordering my Z2 (Purple with any luck) in a couple of weeks when we have them available here in Australia. Hopefully the batches coming to us are a little more refined. The single speaker on calls should be a simple software update I would imagine. Same for 4K recording overheating, but hell, the power of such a small camera in a thin device, can't expect to record much more than a few minutes regardless.
