How do I go about deleting albums from my Google Play Music account using the mobile app? I can delete individual songs but not albums or artists. On the full website I can delete songs, albums, and artists but not on mobile, only songs. I thought Google updated the app a while ago to include the delete function but I seem to be completely missing it?
I have the same issue. I have 6 albums with a few songs each that I can get rid of. I tried deleting the album and it shows back up after about 10 minutes. I tried deleting the songs and they show back up. They are not in the directory that I sync with.
When I try to play any of these songs I get "Couldn't play song. Skipped adead.
That is not really my issue, my issue is that i do not even have the option in any of the over flow menus to delete albums or artists, only when i use the overflow button on the songs.

Just delete google play music app's cache, clear media storage app's data and finally restart the device.
First launch after this will give you an empty library, just wait a few minutes and you'll get everything reloaded again, but now without the deleted songs/albums.
taz633's advice worked for me.
Taz633's advice worked for me. Thank you!
After deleting the song from the music manager app on my desktop, I cleared the cache on the app on my iPhone, closed it and when I reopened it I clicked "refresh library". The artist was gone.
I did the same online too. I went to settings, then clicked Refresh Library. When I went back to My Library, the artist was gone.

Hey guys I need some help. None of my music players (mediascape, stock android music player, or winamp) doesn't display the updated list of songs. After I've deleted some old songs and put in new ones, it still displays the old songs.
what method are you using to put music on your phone? usually after the sd card is remounted the phone will know to rescan for music. i could be wrong here but i think most players use the same service for record keeping on music. so thats why nothing updates. if you restart your phone it should rescan. alternatively you could look up "rescan media" on the market as there are a few apps there to force a rescan.
i did a search and several other people are facing the same issue and is mainly the android OS that has this bug. it seems that it is still a bug that hasn't been addressed yet by Google according to the software developer who made Meridian. it has something to do with MediaScannerService. under settings, applications, manage applications, MediaScannerService comes up as restarting. no matter what i do whether i take out the battery, mount/unmount the sd card, it still shows up as restarting. and it stays like that indefinitely.
you're right, i found out that all the apps share the same filesystem update function and that's why the apps don't have their own individual 'update library' function. apparently a full reflash and sd card format will fix it... ughh... (>_<)
Mine worst. My mediascape cant even scan any songs. I use other player, PowerAmp Player and it only can play songs from folders and can't load songs to library.
Hello,
I never kind of used the stock media player (have been using google music for a while)...recently, I loaded some music on my phone and album art started showing up in the gallery. Is there any way I can avoid the album art from showing up in the gallery? I tried .nomedia thing which was suggested some where and restarted the phone but no luck....any tips would be appreciated....
Thanks

The .nomedia file should do the trick, but you also need to force the gallery to rebuild it's database. And a simple restart won't do it. Do this...
1. Create the ".nomedia" file in the directory you want to exclude
2. Go into Settings > Application Manager > All
3. Select "Gallery" and press "Clear data"
4. Select "Media Storage" and press "Clear data"
That should work for the album art, but you may have the unintended side effect of also making it so your music doesn't show up in your media player either... if the album art is in the same folder as the music files. If that happens, your only way around it is to make sure that the album art is in a separate folder.
I open up the music app on the phone (Music or Nokia Music) and it shows over 15,000 songs (long story of stupidity). None of the songs are on the phone though. If I try to play something, it'll hang for several minutes, play something for about 15s and then hang for several minutes again. I think it has something in cache that it tries to play.
How do I get the song list to force update? I can manually delete them from the phone but I I only live once and won't have that much time. The Windows Phone 8 app 'can see' the songs but then errors when trying to delete saying it can't find it. It doesn't have a select all anyway. WMP doesn't see any songs on it. Rebooting the phone doesn't force it to scan either.
Any ideas?
I miss the Zune days.......................
I personally would put all of your music in one easy to mange music folder, get rid of duplicate entries, and make sure you delete all the songs you have on your device through windows explorer. Then, copy and paste the music folder to your device. You will be able to select all or pick and choose copying music this way. It would be the same way you copy music to a thumb drive if that clarifys it for you.
There is no music

There is no music on the device at all. Due to the Itunes / WMP folder structuring hanging the transfers (I just use windows explorer normally). There was no folder structure. Only one folder with 32,000 songs. I then copied about 5600 to the device. THAT turned out to be too much as the device didn't like only having 500k of space left. So I deleted the folder, and tried something smaller.
This went on for a few times only to find out that the songs were not getting removed from the library when the files were removed from the device.
Personally i think wp has a problem with files and music.
i struggled a lot getting the device showing everything that was in the windows8 app.
had duplicate entries of self copied tracks, had problems with album arts,. albums sometimes have just a few songs.
deleting device in xbox.com and unsync didnt help much.
somehow the music i copied on the phone on some day just didnt show up in fthe explorer anymore. so does the hidden album folder.
at the end i tried a hard reset and bricked the phone... didnt do anything appart form playing around with the music folder and app.

I miss the Zune days as well, I hate that I can no longer use it to sync all my content. I really hope they change this in the future, because the Windows Phone App is terrible and doesn't work half the time.
That being said, all the songs you see on your phone aren't actually on your phone. It is pulling them from your Zune account and what is now called your Xbox Music Cloud Connection.
Open up an artist and take a look at the track list - you'll notice a small icon indicating it isn't local. (Attachment 1)
It is streaming it from their servers, this is why it takes long to load, then buffers.
If you wish to disable the device from automatically showing all of these songs, in the Music + Videos app, go into settings (Attachment 2) and disable Xbox Music Cloud Collection. (Attachment 3)
That was it, mostly

That was it. I didn't notice the hidden folders. After removing the contents from them, there were only about 100 songs left in the list which I could then manage via the application to delete.
Fresh music list, starting over.
Thank you
be carefull with this things. bricked my phone with it.. deleted the album folder to get the list new..
also got problems with the cable staying connected and refreshing the data in the folders.
just got everything showing in win8 and phone now.. despite the album covers
Also if you have Windows 8 ... music is uploaded to the cloud and can be streamed to the phone... it isn't perfect, but I have several albums that have just showed up... I think part of that has to do with where it was purchased.
does it update any mp3 you add into the music app?

Yeah it updates everything but the 'collection' tile inside of nokia music. That still had thousands.
I reloaded all the music and it seemed to have got lost again. It seems to work fine until you pass around 2000 songs and then duplicates start showing up everywhere.
Oh well, lesson learned.
didnt know that.. i have thousands of mp3 on a media server in the basement .. but cant bind it into music folder anyways because the network drive does not support indexing
I like using Google play music but the application has been changing my album art around and i cant figure out how to change it back.
I saved a picture to my external SD card and Google music decided to tag all the Unknown Artists with the picture, but it only seems to show up in Google Music.
I have multiple media players installed and only some of them recognize the art and display it.
I have tried editing the tags but its like the images are not there like since the image was in the forlder it pretty much overwrote things.
I have cleared the cache and data for google music rebooted my device with no luck.
What are my options at this point to get this picture out the tags and off my phone.

Hi
I too have a very similar problem. Have transferred 250+ songs (no albums, just individual songs) from my 'puter to the external SD card of my phone (Galaxy S3). Each cover for each song is embedded (correctly!) in the ID3 tag of each mp3. The songs play and covers display corrrectly when using a PC-based music player eg. Windows Media Player.
However, Google Play Music tags each song with the same cover tag (seemingly a random one from the 250+ songs). So...I deleted them all and started again. This time, I transferred a single mp3 and this displayed correctly (ie. with the ID3 embedded cover art). However, as soon as I transferred other songs, they too displayed with the cover art of the first transferred mp3. I too tried clearing the chace and data of the app but to no avail. I'm stumped..
Does anyone have any ideas to solve this? It's incredibly frustrating!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help..:good:
I have downloaded two three songs on my mobile through chrome, then through ES file explorer, i moved those songs to /sdcard/Music/ where rest of my mp3s are.. the problem is that these new songs are not shown in the Music app.. months ago, I had copied songs from my pc to my phone /sdcard/Music/ through ES file explorer.. and they showed up fine..
can anyone help me out with this?
my phone is rooted
ICS 4.0.4

yeah i tried it all, but clearing cache didnt work..
i read somewhere that I should fix the permissions through the recovery, but this caused another issue, there is an issue with CWM recovery, on fixing permissions it messes with the permissions of contacts pictures, hence the contact picture wont show up in messages.. so after trying fixing permissions, i got another issue at my disposal, although I did found a solution and fixed the contact picture issue.. but the Music library problem still remained..
I also read that there is a file .nomedia which causes this problem, but removing it didnt do any good either
meanwhile i found twrp released for desire x, and replaced CWM with twrp 2.5(official one, not Yasir's 2.4.3, i didnt know the difference so i just went with the latest one).. and then I fixed the permissions, and I also factory reset my phone.. which erased all of the data, then I copied things back and it all worked fine..
dont know if the factory reset fixed the issue or fixing the permission, as i went to sleep inbetween this whole mess to clear my mind (may be this made it work )
Maybe youre music Player was just rescaning for new Media, it can take a wile for me as i have tons of Files and twice as many folders

na man.. i thought its fixed as after going through what i have stated above, there appeared songs in the music library while i was actually copying songs, so i thought its fine now.. but today when i opened the music app, i found its showing almost half of the songs.. there are about 103 songs, its showing just something around 65..
i found one more thing, that when i open the Music folder in ES File Explorer, then some song icons contain there album art, and these are the only songs which are shown in music app.. there are 7 albums in the Music folder(means seven albums containing around 13 songs each) and 6 songs directly in Music folder.. in Music app, i get 5 albums, in one album there is only 7 songs shown in Music app while there are 14 or 15.. I opened this album on ES file explorer and found that there are only seven songs in that album with album art, this is when i found this.. this is pretty strange, can someone help me with this?
Perhaps unsupported Format, try Manually adding the Media if possible in your music Player (think you can in poweramp)

i can play all the media files in my phone through ES File explorer Media player, and also by Music app (if i navigate to the music file by my file manager and then play it, though by this method it plays as a popup, you cant multitask, its like a preview thing, plays as long as you dont move away from the popup).. but it just dont show up in Music App, because of which i cant listen to half of my music while doing some other work, alternative is to use ES Media Player, but why the hell does Android Native Music App is sucking so bad? if I am supposed to select best app for myself then why it wont let me delete system apps? (after deleting them they get back after restart)

By tagged music, he meant music with right set of id3 tags (in our case, at least name of song), to check if you have tagged music... is player showing name of song, author, album name, or it is "untitled track XYZ"? If it is untitled track, then tag it ffs (untagged music should be illegal), good tool to tag music quickly a precisely is program called musicbrainz picard, just download it somewhere. try manualy search tags in the files that are not showed up in music player...
Every single song is properly tagged

clearing data by going to app settings through app manager solved the issue, i think.. i did this then opened the music app, no songs in its library, then waited for a while just to make sure it isnt searching, and it didnt show any song.. then i opened ES File Explorer went to Music library and noticed that now more songs have album arts, infact noticed some songs getting updated by album art.. then went to music app again and thank god.. all songs are being displayed now..
