Hi guys,
Can I perform downgrade simply by just restoring backup of 4.1.2, created with latest CWM?
Or do I need to do it via Odin?
I rather do it from backup to save my time on restoring phone with all apps and customisation...
Please could you advise?
Thank you
Yes, factory reset and format internal media before you restore. I did the exact same thing (back to 4.3) last night after trying 4.4 for an hour, too many things don't work in Kitkat.
Make sure your 4.1.2 was at least EMG4 or later to avoid efs problems.

Backup is the easiest thing to restore from as it replaces everything on your current rom including the rom itself. BUT i wouldnt advise that as it may cause IMEI problems encountered when downgrading from 4.3 to lower due to the format of the efs being changed(which is modem related). Your phone would no longer receive calls etc.
Ive personally experienced this by flashing a 4.1.2 rom over a 4.3. As for a restore i am very sure it will not cause a problem but it can. In any case you can backup your efs partition by various programs and then restore by nandroid. If any problem occurs then restore your efs partition or upgrade to 4.3 again and flash MG4 modem.
thanks a lot for your responses guys!
I have formated cache and dalvik, formated data and system and hit restore afterwards.
Worked a treat!
Downgraded to EMC2. No problems with IMEI or phone calls.
Everything works fine.

Dear,
I installed 4.4 RC1 PA, per the instructions, however I'm stuck in bootloop. Then I tried to go back to an earlier version, of course with a suitable kernel, but still the same. Then I installed the stock rom 4.1.2, and again repeated bootloop. Finally install the stock ICS, the system is booted, but I do not have a GSM network. Once again I try to install custom, happens to bootloop. Works only stock ICS but without GSM network. Do something was wrong?
Thanks in advance!
I guess your EFS partition got all messed up while flashing. No baseband,no serial,no imei,no signal and so on.Have you made any backup of it?
This EFS thing is tricky.Search around here to get an idea about this.

What you think, is this possible way to fix? I'll try this. http://www.digitalreborn.com/fix-samsung-galaxy-unable-mount-efs/
So I assume you have a backup. There are plenty of tools for restoring it,like the EFS Professional or kTool. If your backup is in either img or tar format, easy way could be restoring it via philz kernel's advanced recovery(if you are using stock jb or ics).
Hello xda I am at my wits end over this.
Basically I got sick of stock roms and wanted my phone to be faster so I decided to install cyanogenmod, that was grand. Phone could still send texts and call people. Then I wanted to change to miui, I backed up my efs files with efspro like the step by step guide said and done everything correctly. Once I finished, my efs folder got corrupted because I had the 0049 imei.
Nothing is showing up in efsprofessional for restore. I downloaded a stock 4.3 rom for my phone, it restored my imei code but I didnt have it unlocked. I backed up efs again, flashed to 4.1.1 but I still couldn't restore efs. I downloaded ktool and other programs, it says I restored efs but when I reboot the phone, it doesn't seem to work.
I don't know what to do. I have the backups but it seems like nothing is working. Are older versions of efsprofessional less temperamental? Is there any stock roms that would work better? Any help?
If there is any questions, please ask away. Thank you

Use PhilZ recovery choose wipe to install a new rom in settings then
1.Flash this ROM v5.2; http://echoerom.com/galaxy-s3-gt-i9300/
2.Flash patched kernel mk6; from here https://drive.google.com/folderview...sharing&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8#list
3.Flash patched modem mk6; from here https://drive.google.com/folderview...sharing&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8#list
4.Reboot.
5 Factory reset if bootloop
Hello,
I'd like to downgrade my SGS3 GT-I9300 international running 4.3 (baseband v. I9300XXUGNA8) to the official 4.1.2 ROM.
I don't have an EFS backup from the days when I ran 4.1.2 previously so I'm thinking I will have to factory reset, flash the ROM up to 4.1.2, root, then restore user apps via Titanium. I don't think KNOX will be an issue; as far as I can tell it's not installed on my device.
My questions are:
Can I factory reset to avoid problems with the IMEI?
Will I be able to just restore apps installed under 4.3 into 4.1 and have them work, or will I have to reinstall each and every one from the Play store?

You need a efs backup or use a mk6 or newer modem.
Why do you want to downgrade to this sds vulnerable version for?

Also questions go in the q&a section.

I mainly want to downgrade because of performance issues with 4.3. When I back out of an app or hit the Home button, I frequently have to wait for several seconds before icons load. I've tried freezing as many useless bloat apps and services as I can but it hasn't helped at all.
I find it hard to believe that a factory reset will leave the device unusable as a phone... shouldn't the factory reset reset everything, including the EFS?
Try searching for just two minutes, you will find hundreds of posts where their imei was lost (permanently) by trying to downgrade -usually so they could unlock for free.
Factory reset only wipes data, nothing else. As above, flash only a firmware compatible with efs v2, EMG4 or later.
Backup your efs first, be prepared to pay for a repair if you get it wrong.
Your problem is a lack of free memory, dumping the launcher. Try one that stays resident.
Hello, I'm going to buy another Galaxy S2 as it is perfect phone form my persnal needs. No comments, no laughs, it's just me.
My current phone runs stock 2.3.6, but what I want is to get another one but with 4.1.2 to check if my setup on 2.3.6 let me get as much long battery life on 4.1.2.
I got CWM backup of my current 2.3.6 system and first thing I will do to new 4.1.2 is to make CWM backup, too.
I read that these systems are writetn in phone memory in a different way, something aboout different partitions, etc, you know. So my question is: can I transfer and restore CWM backup from one to another (I read about IMEI issues after restoring backup from another phone).
Another question is: if I flash 4.1.2 via ODIN to my current phone and I don't like, do I have to install 2.3.6 via ODIN then restore CWM 2.3.6 backup or can I restore CWMbackup over 4.1.2?

IMEI issues shouldn't be a problem if both phones are the same varient (i9100, etc). Just make sure that the recovery supports the backup file. In most cases, it should work. But beware, older recoveries may not fully support backups from newer recoveries. With your other question, it really doesn't matter how you restore android 2.3.6.
hi i was wondering if you guys can help me, i have an efs backup, but i cant seem to be able to restore my imei,i tried Ktool, efs professional, nothing seems to work,i should mention that the efs backup was from a Samsung 4.1.2 stock now my phone is on CM11
thanks
I dont know if cm base and sam base modems are same but if they are:
Firs option: many custom roms come without modems to prevent the country issues so assume that your old modem is still installed you can try to install a new cm modem or like i said if they are same a new version sammy modem.
Second option: go back to stock 4.1.2 and see if your imei is still intact. If not restore your 4.1.2 imei see if it is back. If It is back first try to upgrade official 4.3 via odin then install cm 11 with wipe...

thanks for replying, I flashed a patched modem and kernal from a different post, but I got boot loop,so I restored a backup that I made before flashing from recovery, and for some reason every thing is OK now maybe restoring is the silotion.
BTW the backup was made after I restored my efs.hop that helps someone.
In a way you helped me, thank you.

You got bootloop because that modem and kernel are for sammy 4.3 and yours is CM. The backup you restored, is it nandroid backup and is it 4.1.2 ?

no, the backup i restored was from CM 11,thats what surprised me i made the backup in philz touch right before i flashed the patched modem and the kernel to try and solve the imei issue, it was a normal backup (the one where you back every thing),meaning the imei problem was still there, but it was after i tried to restore my original EFS.
so here is what i did in steps
-got corrupted imei on CM 11
-tried to restore with my EFS backup that i made while i was on sammy 4.1.2 using different apps and methods didn't work
-made a full backup using philz before flashing a new modem as suggested
-got boot loop after flashing a new modem
-restored the backup i made before flashing the modem and for some reason my imei was back

I think the reason you got your imei back is the modem you installed with the kernel. So here is what i think happened. You had bootloop so restore got your old kernel back and modem stayed intact. Shortly if you had just installed a new modem from the begenning you would have sold your problem i always say best way to learn is try and fail. i am happy that you have your phone back [emoji106]
I also suggest you to replace the modem with an unpatched clean one. You can have network problem in the future...
