App to measure charging current? - G2 General

Does anyone know of an app for the G2 that will do this? I had one for my Galaxy, but it doesn't seem to work correctly with the G2.
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk

I measured by cutting the cable in two then used a multimeter. Don't think there are any apps that can display it. Cus ether it's slowcharging 500ma or fastcharge 500ma+ and the only way the phone can tell is if the data pins are shortend.
Tried 4 different thay all give wrong values from 5a to 700ma. When I know it's 1.5

Elixir2 does this and a gazillion other things. It's device info and widget creator in one and one of the best apps you'll ever use.

OK, I've installed it. Can you give me a quick tutorial about where in the app I can see the charging current?

I think it's under menu - information - device.

Thanks!

Battery Monitor Widget does it, and if you have it monitoring or a widget on the launcher it'll record snapshots of the charging current so you can see how fast it was charging in the past as well.
Android Tuner should as well, but I haven't tried it.

Gsam does it.

Current Widget from app store.
Link
It will install 2 widgets. I use the text widget and customize it to make the font size 30.
The only current app you will ever need. My phone charges at 1600 mAh using stock LG charger. From PC USB3 port, it charges between 200-300 mAh.
:good:

Current Widget is the way to go if all you want is to know Current, Temperature, Voltage, and Percent.
I can confirm that it works on the sprint G2.
Simple widget displays it all.
It also can log the readings at custom intervals.

Is there one that works for wireless charging? They all detect that it's charging, but only show about 14-15mA

[Q] charging voltage/current app?

I remember seeing an App which tells you how much current/voltage you are getting from your charger. It was a very simple app, once you click on it it gives you your charging source's voltage/current reading. I tried searching a lot but cant find it, every time I search only battery readers comes up which I dont want. I want to get the current/voltage reading of the plugged charger.
I am absolutely sure there is an app like that, can someone point me to it?
I've yet to see an app that can do this.
I was looking for this a long time ago and found this way to do it via GScript:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7525192&postcount=4
Hope that helps
The 'BatteryLife' widget (by curvefish) shows the following:
Charging-A/C or USB (slow/fast)
Temp
Voltage
percentage
health?
battery type/technology
If you want to see the current being drawn from the battery try 'CurrentWidget'

Ampre in the app store. All devices. Tell input amp from charger. Just be sure to take into account your phones operating Amps. So if the app says your chargers putting out 700mah then add about 300mah for your phones e screen and all that and you have about 1000mah output from the charger once you turn your screen off and screen is locked.
Now looking for one that also shows voltage (qualcom quick charger that only puts out 6.2V and 2.2A according to a USB-power-monitor, but I want to make sure the monitor is NOT to blame before yelling at the seller of the quick-charger, my other quick-charger has disappeared since a trip (iirc that DID show 9V and 1.5A with same USB-power-monitor and same phone (Redmi Note 7) and the Samsung Quick-chargers that came with the wife's A40 won't quickcharge my Xiaomi).
I remember getting a Windows phone from work in 2008 or so. One of the first apps I downloaded (and one of the very few available for Windows...) was a charging-current app. We used it to quick-test micro-USB-cables at work

[Q] super slow charging. whyyy ?

i just got this phone a few days ago. i love it. nothing wrong with it.
super fast and everything. im on 2.3.6. no issues. my battery lasts 12 hours easy. and actually up to 26 hours so far.
i dont even feel the need for a custom rom. at least not for now.
but one thing that makes me mad is how slow the phone charges, anyone know why this is ? it's kinda frustrating lol
any way to change this ?
also....i kinda hate that there is no camera button on the actual phone. oh well.
*Edited*
well i dont like to charge unless my battery is on red. so that conflicts, its not always red when i go to sleep. but thanks i'll check it out.
and i dont want to unlock to camera. it's easier to take photos with a button is what im saying

If I remember correctly waiting till the battery is completely depleted is not a good thing for our batteries.
i never said completely depleted though.
and yea ive read so many reviews to not do that, and reviews that say you should... and reviews to charge it this much and that much and blah blah. may be a new phone, but none of this is new to me.
Charge current is hardware limited from what I've read. Or atleast for the time being. If your using the phone while charging it'll be significantly slower. Also using wallplug makes a difference. If you've got stuff running while charging try throttling down the CPU while charging.
Other than that I think our phone is limited to 650mah to charge. So 1650/650 is about 2.5 hours with perfect efficiency. Now take into account the power being drawn and how the chargers for li batteries work, that's about 3-4 hrs to be expected.
And don't run li batteries all the way down on a regular basis, its not good. I'm not positive on li ion batteries, but with lipo you generally want to use about %80 of rated capacity to prolong life and power of the cell.
400 mA on USB, 650 on a wall charger, CPU/screen usage counts against these limits - no way to change this
Forgot where I read it. Could be wrong too.
Slow charging for this phone was samsungs way of keeping our phones battery in shape. Hopefully prolonging the life of it. I noticed my 3GS lose about 20% of its full capacity in a couple years. Only time will tell?
Siyah has an option to upping the charging mA I believe.

all useful responses and all make sense. thank you guys.
i dont use it when it charges and yea it does take about 4 hours to charge.
coming from a crappy xperia x10 which took about 2 hours to charge from 0 to 100
but this phone is 10 times better even without a custom rom so i can deal.
thank you guys for ur knowledge.

He removed it because it turned out not to work. (If it's still there I'm surprised - it should be completely gone.)
It turns out the I9100 has the same limitation as the I777 - charging is handled not by the MAX8997, but by a MAX8922.

If you are on Entropy's DD kernel you should divide that number by 2.85
Battery charge current monitoring (CurrentWidget) support - only reports charge current and not discharge, and reports a value 2.85 times the actual current. Use CurrentWidget's "operation on value" to divide by 2.85.

SGS2 Charging limit 650mA.

Is there any way around this limit? Custom kernel etc.
It's really annoying that my phone discharges, albeit slowly, when using satnav and full screen brightness.
No, there is not. However, if you are using GPS in your car and your charger is detected as MISC or USB, you could increase that to 650mA.
Mine is detected as a charger, not MISC or USB, so I get the full 650mA but I need more current, probably 800mA would do the trick.
I wonder if fitting the new Samsung extended battery would increase the charging current.

You could resolder a resistor on the phones motherboard, but there is no software way to get around the limit.

So it's hardware limited, how stupid .
My main use for a smartphone is satnav and one that goes flat after 500 miles is about as much use as a chocolate tea pot. I suppose my only option is to turn down the brightness and remember to go back to HTC for my next phone.

Assuming your car charger is actually supplying 650mA and the phone is still losing charge, you're not entirely without options. For example, you could use a lower brightness (which you already acknowledge), limit the CPU frequency/disable one core or have your sat nav application turn off the screen between instructions.

Thanks, I'll investigate the CPU options, I couldn't live with the screen turning off though.
For the future, I wonder if ICS's better handling of the two cores will reduce consumption.
You can turn mystic up to 650 from 450 which might help with the discharging while using satnav issue.
You would need a custom kernel and voltage control.

I presume he meant MISC, which you already clarified shouldn't matter (but wouldn't harm to try, if you're already using a kernel which supports changing these values).

I just downloaded a battery widget app and my car charger (2amp) is definitely recognised as 'AC' which I assume should be 650mA.
I'm using Android 2.3.6, Gingerbread XILA2, Rooted. Would Siyah kernel be worth a try?
Fast charging the battery shortens its life anyway. Slow charges are better, IMO.
I don't mind waiting a few extra minutes or buying an additional battery and cycling them, or charging them externally

But I need sufficient current to cover my satnav drain plus a bit to charge the battery when I'm driving. I don't mind replacing the battery every six months but pulling off the road to change it is a non starter.

It's not likely to help your issue, at least not without playing with a few already mentioned things (like limiting CPU frequency or disabling one core).

[Q] Is there an app which can show charging current ?

I’m wondering if there is an app that can show the charging current in mA ? I have come across few apps (i.e: Battery Monitor Widget) which I believe show the power drain, but not the input current while charging. Also the current reading of the Battery Monitor is inconsistent and fluctuates a lot (which I believe is due to the CPU stepping between different frequencies due to various background apps??). Is there a better (more reliable) app that can monitor the actual input instead ?
I have 2 car chargers : An old Samsung CAD300 (rated at 5v/700mA) and a new Belkin charger (rated at 5v/1A). but neither of them can provide enough power to charge my HTC One X while using Google Navigation and streaming audio over BT. Belkin is better at minimizing the drain, but still battery level drops gradually. I modded the Belkin charger by shorting D+ and D-, now it performs much better (earlier the drop was far worse than even the Samsung charger). but want to see the actual output, and hopefully try to find a better charger that can provide enough juice to charge the phone while navigating. I borrowed few chargers from some of my friends to test, but Battery Monitor Widget's reading was too unreliable to accurately test the performance.
EDIT: I do have a multimeter, I guess I could also use that along with a 5ohm resistor (in series) and measure the current to see if the charger is capable of outputting 1A, right ?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I cant find the value of charging current anywhere in Elixir 2 (at least in the free version). Under Information > Battery > More information, it only gives one current value titled "Current" but that shows 2300mA right now when plugged in to my computer over USB. Which is obviously wrong, no idea what that value is though..
Seems to me like all these apps are displaying random numbers for the current value, or these apps can’t read it property on the One X

The temperature of your device.
How much old is your battery.
Which cable you use with your charger. ?

It also depends on manufacturerer bro. Every company has its ways of battery optimisations. You see dash charging works on one plus 3 but the same charger doesn't works on other devices not even on one plus 2.
So, it also depends on companies how they implement their charging methods.
