[Q] Modify keylayout file just change keycode not completely disable buttons? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd like to use navibar softkeys and decide to disable capacitive buttons.
After modifying general.kl, the feature of capacitive buttons are off.
But I noticed though these buttons' keycode all are 0 but still effect some apps when I press them,
e.g., if I press these buttons when I scroll in the launcher drawer, it will stop scrolling.
Is there a way to disable capacitive buttons completely not just make their keycode become 0?

HELP??? Force In App Overflow Menu to Appear

Ok ive remapped menu to APP_SWITCH and now recent apps appear when i press menu. But how do i force the overflow menu (three dots) to appear? I know the samsung apps are capable because if you add qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 to build.prop it shows the navigation bar and all app have a menu in them. But how can i make the menu appear without forcing the navigation bar?
I think i read something about changing "hasPermanentMenuKey" to return as false so that the system automatically display the overflow menus but im not sure how to do that or if thats even correct.
In summary: I want menus to appear in apps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I remap the menu key to APP_SWITCH too, anyhow, without showing the emulated home/cancel button on screen via qemu.hw.mainkeys=0, the force overflow action menu button just do not appear. If able to trick the app to alway show the action menu button, the remap key may work good, just some app like Whatapps / Facebook / Twitter may not able to access the menu.
Also, looking at keylayout folder, the file Vendor_04e8_Product_7021.kl contain list per below, change of it do have any impact? I tested but it acted weird and no conclusion on this. I did tried to put the Key 704 from RECENTAPPS -> APPLICATION and it launch the voice search when long pressing home button.
Key 704 RECENTAPPS
Key 705 APPLICATION
Key 706 SIP_ON_OFF
Key 707 VOICESEARCH
Key 708 QPANEL_ON_OFF
Any key# to remap the long press of capacitive Menu key to other function? Or long pressing feature is control by software only??

Do you know by any chance how do you do this for kindle fire hd 7 7.3.1 I want to disable nav bar by using qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 but this will get rid of the action bar app Manu as well. This wouldn't be a problem but the LMT launcher app menu button won't work unless the action bar app menu is there. Please help

Hi,
Look here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788780
This mod can disable capacitive keys (and add on-screen keys).

[Q] Disable hardware buttons...

I'm on Eclipse. I've enabled the soft keys and tried disable the hardware keys by putting a # symbol in front of the keys in generic.kl or whatever it is. My home button is disabled. However, the menu and back keys still work. I cannot disable them. I've deleted their lines and everything. Is there another way to do it?

[Q] Navigation buttons on Android? [on-screen, capacitive or hardware]

What type navigation buttons do you prefer on your smartphone?
Personally, I like virtual buttons. These type of buttons don't need a force to be applied on for them to respond, unlike hardware buttons like those on "GS4 Active". Also, since they are part of the display it will work or break simultanously with the screen. If something happens with the display, both the screen and buttons won't work, whereas in the case of capacitive buttons you might have to deal with a broken....let's say "Home" button while the screen is still working.

Any way to disable capacitive buttons on the fly?

I'd like to disable capacitive buttons on my tab, and actually there are several ways to do it. Basically remapping them in the xml. But my needs are about to disable them on the fly, not going then after a reboot. I'd like to disable them depending a condition, like screen orientation: I'd want them enabled in landscape and disabled in portrait, on the fly.
Is there a way to recall in the mapping file a function like that? Or any other way?
