Will OTA update ruin my flash? - Motorola Droid RAZR

I have an XT912 RAZR that has been flashed to work on Page Plus. Today I received an update notice for the system software. I read it's a maintenance release and the Android version 4.1.2 will not change. Will the update affect the flash? I have asked the "flasher" but haven't heard yet.

Questions regarding updates in Europe (Sweden)

Hi everyone! I've been lurking a lot, but not registered until now.
I have been anxiously awaiting the ics update for my razr, but haven't gotten it yet. As I was checking my info on my phone I found that I only have 2.3.5.
Shouldn't I have gotten 2.3.6 by now to prepare for ics? I really want my ics but how will I ever get it if I don't even have 2.3.6?
If it helps, I live in Sweden and my operator is tele2/comviq.
If I search for updates it says it's up to date. What can I do?
Sent from my XT910 using xda-developers app
did you buy your phone used? maybe previous owner flashed with something weird?
Nope. It's bought brand new and I've updated once as far as I can remember. Still says 235 though.
Any idea? I'm so over it. I just want a version of ICS that works here in Sweden, any way really..
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
What version are you on? You can RSD an EMEA fastboot file to get the European updates, but there are probably better solutions if you don't want to mess with your phone
I'm on version 651.73.30.XT910.NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU .
Does that say anything to any of you guys..?
I'm fine with going the manual way of updating, as long as the version works as intended here in Sweden.
Although I do want the official release, not an earlier leak or a mod.
Yup, that's the latest version for the NonEFIGSRetail.en.EU, I'm on it as well (in Israel). There isn't an update to 2.3.6 for us
Not everyone in Sweden received 2.3.6, some was lucky updating to 2.3.6 (I was one of them) try to update via Motocast and see if there is anything there otherwise wait for the official ICS

I think if we waited so long, we can wait a few more days. We should be getting ICS in Q2... or so motorolla says.
But if you want, there are many posts around here on how to RSD-lite-your-way to ICS.
But does any of it apply for those of us in Europe? I've only seen the Verizon and Brazil updates.
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
Yes, there is this T-mobile EU leak http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688241
Since I'm not that well informed, I'm going to ask to be sure.
If install it that way, am I still "official ROM" and can get future OTA? And everything will work as intended even though I don't have T-mobile?
Edit: also, since I've never updated like this with a new version of android, will I loose apps etc? It's not really a problem, just wondering.
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
No, if you install that OTA you will not be entitled to the official OTA's from Motorola (AFAIK). And I know that going back to Gingerbread is not possible if you are on ICS. In my opinion is better to wait these 4 days and see if Motorola releases the official ICS on time (Q2)
I don't know if the one I gave you the link about is official (I doubt it) it's considered a leak and there might be bugs
If you cant wait, install EMEA 2.3.6 with RSD-Lite, then you should get the OTA as soon as it arrives in Europe. That's what I've done
@percz, does that mean that you've received the update, and does it mean that you got it from the official update service?
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
Also in Sweden, as someone mentioned earlier, I only got the update through motocast. Phone always just said it was upto date.
Sent from my XT910 using XDA
So you got the update through motocast without fiddling with anything?
Edit: tried through motocast, nothing.

Yeah, now that I think about it, I installed the 2.3.5 fastboot and got an OTA to 2.3.6. I've made a post about it somewhere...
If you can and want to, could you send me a pm with what you used and how you did it?
Also, doesn't fast boot lock you to only manual updates in the future?
Sent from my XT910
You've got PM!
The fastboot files are Motorola original, just like the ones they use at the service centers, so there should be no problem

Weird update?

Hello.
When I woke up this morning, my phone wanted to update. Since I've heard that there will be an update to Galaxy S2 to 4.1.1 in November, I got really excited and ran the update.
It rebooted and optimized my apps and all that.
When it was finished, nothing looked different. I checked in the "about" in the settings, and it's still 4.0.4. If that's so, then what the heck did it update???

you would have been in 4.0.3 ICS ....so the update was released for 4.0.4 in many countries.....and you would have been notified....Its a wipe free update so everything will remain the same after updating......but the performance is increased a lot.....
hit thanks....

Uhm... He said update is STILL 4.0.4 which means he already had it... That didn't help much.
And as for OP, considering we don't know which rom version you had and now which you have, there's no way to guess what your update did. Must be a very minor change.

I also got the update, but since I am running a custom kernel, the update failed.
Some people says it's an update from XWPLW to XWPLX. Did you check your build number?

Yeah, I was on the original 4.0.4 from the beginning. Non-rooted.
As for the build number, it's XWPLY now. Don't know what it was before... I've only had this phone for almost one month now, before I had an HTC Wildfire, that sucked. But this phone is crashing a lot, so I'm looking forward to a fix for that. Perhaps this update was a fix, because I haven't had to remove the battery all day today... We'll see.

Then it successfully downloaded and right when it was aobut to restart to install the update, it failed out and said cannot be installed, wait for a new update. Now when I check for updates again is says server error. Anyone else seen these problems?

I would say that we do not get a update, they would not get us the update to 4.1.2, so i think that was the last update.
Now you have to flash costumroms
agreed

I would have to agree. It's a 2 year old device, not matter how you slice it. Unlikely to get anything beyond what we have today OTA. Happy to be proven wrong.

If you live in Poland for the Note 3 variant there, or, stateside, have the S4. Our variant is on the list, but has been delayed, in part, by Google spanking Samsung's hand for putting in code that would have not allowed 3rd party accessories to work properly, and straying too far afield from Android.'
I think the way updates work is that the manufacturer (Samsung) releases the update to the carriers then the carriers add their bloat. Then finally the update is released to the public. Sprint has not released any statement about the 4.4 ota being released.

Theres already a leak of a seemingly final version of 4.4.2 TW that was posted and its fully working, granted w/ some final bugs that didn't get ironed out that samsung is working on. So if the posted info about the OTA coming soon is true, it will be sooner than later before we get the OTA file pushed to the servers for everyone to grab

I wonder if I should install the 4.3 TAR back on my phone and wait for a day or so and keep checking OTA lol.....I'm loving the 4.4.2 leak though and hopefully the kernel that comes w/ it is perfectly optimized and can enhance the battery life even more than the 4.4.2 leak
