You cannot root without a computer.
Your problem is probably a driver issue. Please read the quides carefully as they contain everthing you need to do it.

So you can't get anything to work from your computer including USB storage and fastboot commands? Sounds like a hardware problem with the USB port on the phone or the cable to me.
Does it charge properly? You could still have data issues even if it charges. Some cables only support charging and are not wired for data.

Even if you have the correct drivers installed, some bad drivers might be picking the device up, overriding the good drivers. If you open up device manager, what shows up when you plug in the phone?

Snappea is an app for both windows and your android via which you can connect to your pc
1. First download and install Snappea (Google it "SnapPea" since i cannot post outside links)
2. When installed, it will ask some basic info and after connecting your phone, it will automatically download its android version
3. I guess thats all.... Youll understand its use via the tutorial (pretty much easy)
4. ENJOY!....enjoy transferring your files via pc and android........

the device makes a sound means it connected to USB only. it can be computer or charger.

Oh then Idk i've never looked into it.
I'm having the same problem with my i777 model.
I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers, I updated the drivers, I tried debugging mode and I've tried "Mass Storage" mode.
Mass Storage mode was the only one that seemed to work for me, when I tried debug mode it would constantly connect and disconnect.
When I try without being in any of those modes, my phone will connect. My computer will recognize and then randomly my phone or computer wont be able to see each other anymore. Like my phone will disconnect from MTP-initialization (but still charge like it's plugged in)...I'm really interested in rooting my phone, but I don't want to since I can't connect my phone correctly. I don't want a $200+ phone becoming a brick and I can't replace it very cheap (anytime soon at least).
Here's phone info if it helps any..?
Model Number: SAMSUNG-SGH-i777
Android Version: 2.3.6
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.UCKK6

Hmmm...I just tried something. My phone says it's not in MTP, but my PC can read it and open it up.
All I did was turn off my phone, then I plugged it in, then turned it back on and it's doing good so far...might give it a shot, I dunno how well it's really working or nothing though.
|-----EDIT------|
Now it's in MTP Application and synchronizing, I'm just trying to back up my phone with Keis so if I do decide to Root, I can back everything back up.

Hey, I have looked everywhere on the internet and I can't seem to find any solution for my problem so I thought I would post here. I bricked my Galaxy Ace when I was trying to upgrade the ROM quite some time ago, I have tried to unbrick with odin, odin oneclick, oneclick unbrick and none of those seem to recognize my phone. I think that the trouble is that there is something wrong with my phone and my computer cannot detect it. I was just wondering if there are any other ways to unbrick??
-Any help greatly appreciated

Man you really don't have a clue do you!!
Why in hell would you need OTG to flash a rom? Do you even know what OTG is?
Stop ignoring people that give you the solution too. It's really bad manners.
So download the stock rom and flash it.
You should spend a day reading up first before you damage the phone permanently.
Sorry if not being clear I have been listening my phone has a hardware issue and I'm not to much of a noob have tried each comment. I'm not to nooby but I have downloaded the drivers my device is not being recognized correctly I have a hazardous icon in device manager on my android phone lg ls970. My phone does not support otg I'm trying to install .zips through a flash drive and otg cable. I'm sorry if waisting peoples time with my apparently nooby question. Please c correct me if I'm wrong thanks for the support.
Let me be clearer I'm sorry for not spelling it out well enough. I have installed drivers many times I have installed the driver however my phone is not being recognized correctly I have uninstalled and tried again. Otg which I looked it up pretty handy in these situations, doesn't work for this phone (due to outputting)I had a cm10.2 kernal which may have had something do do with this. I have come to believe that its a hardware problem with the female port I will try again on another computer tomorrow and see.
What I want to know is why it still recognizes something and if its fixable?
Thx

Hey!
This is my first time posting, but I have read tons of threads on here over the last year or so with my Droid DNA.
A while ago, I rooted my DNA, and unlocked the Bootloader, and used moonshine for S-OFF. I now want to undo all that I have done. Wiping data is no issue, I backed up all my info. I plan to get a new phone soon. Basically, I can't get adb drivers to work. So I deleted my drivers, and installed the ones mentioned in the thread linked below, and I can't find how to get these drivers to work.
My plan is to follow this thread, using step 3 (for moonshine). I have TWRP installed, and flashed the lock_bootlader.zip file provided there. I cannot get adb to work, however, for the next step. For example, "adb devices" returns no devices. And thus i cannot use adb commands. When I run "adb devices", it shows this. What do I do??
Thanks
Some more clarification:
I might also add that Device manager shows my phone as "HTC6435LVW", under "Portable Devices". It seems to recognize it as an MTP Device when I try to update the drivers, and won't let me update the drivers, because "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
In addition, HTC Sync Manager does not recognize my phone either. I should mention that I already chose "Reset Phone" from the Settings menu, and then also did a Factory Reset from TWRP.
I'm so confused by all this - Why can't I get ADB to recognize it?? I have been and will continue to be searching for solutions to this problem here on XDA and also on Google. And do I even need to do all this to give my phone back to Verizon?
Try getting the drivers from PDAnet. If you are using Windoze 8 or 8.1 , good luck.

I tried that, it gets stuck at the USB Driver Installation page, when it asks to connect your phone. I have USB debugging enabled, and I even installed PdaNet on my phone to try to use their "USB Mode". The DNA has not USB options for Mass Storage, etc like the pdanet driver help page ( pdanet . co / driver ) (It wont let me post a link because I'm a new user, sorry) tells me to look for.
Windows device manager does not recognize it as an Android phone, but instead as a portable device, could this be a problem?
Thanks for your reply

EDIT: Nope, didn't work. Momentarily, I got it to install drivers. During that time, adb worked but not fastboot. So then I deleted the drivers to try to reinstall for fastboot, and now neither of them works.
