I've done a bunch of searching but I can NEVER find a solid answer for my question.
First of all, I have a Samsung Galaxy ace S5830D, as the title says.
My provider is Koodo and I got the phone through 'em.
Basically, all the roms I find are for the Samsung Galaxy ace S5830 (no D). Whenever I search to see if this matters, it seems to with people screwing up their phone trying to use roms for the S5830.
I also can't seem to find any roms specifically for the S5830D.
I have the phone rooted, that was simple enough.
So my question is, will a rom for the S5830 work with my S5830D?
If not, could someone point me to where I COULD find roms for it? because I can't seem to find any.
This is my first phone so I know next to nothing about all this aside from what i've picked up doing searches.
Look into your phone build.prop, if its stated codename as cooper u can flash any custom rom for generic ace. only different is maybe modem, as u need to flash modem only for your region.
If its listed codename as cooperve, u are out of luck because it got different hardware than generic ace.
Hmm, thanks.
I'm looking at my build.prop but i'm not seeing either codename that you said...I think.
ro.build.version.codename=REL
is the only line I see mentioning a codename.
Though I saw "cooper" in this line
ro.build.buildtag=jenkins-
HUDSON_USA_GSM_GB_COOPER-TLS-111
dunno if the first line was relevant, or if that means anything...
Sorry, complete noob at this.
if u see cooper, its the same with generic galaxy ace then. if u see cooperve then its another ace with different hardware than the generic ace.
and i'm sure the s5830d that u got is the same with generic s5830 thus u can flash any custom rom from the generic ace.

Yeeeah apparently not the same as a generic S5830.
After flashing a S5830 rom, my phone would boot, show the samsung logo, then quickly fade to a white screen.
I restored using a backup, and now my phone simply hangs on the Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830D logo screen, and does nothing else.
Well then. I guess my question becomes...
how do I fix my phone? lol
Restoring the backup doesn't do much.
EDIT:
Used Odin with Cooper_v1.0.ops and a .tar.md5 to flash it back to stock/base/whatever.
Works now...neeever trying to flash to a rom again. I'll stick to keeping it rooted and that's it...
Anyone know how to flash it using Ubuntu and download mode?

Would you please post that .tar.md5 for S5830D ...PLEASE

Hello !
There are others of us in that same situation, would be great if you'd post that S5830D "ODIN" file (...tar.md5) !
I'd like some input on whether this is confirmed a different hardware model or if the OP just had a bad flash, missed step, etc.
I've got a S5830D model successfully rooted, carrier unlocked, with CWM installed but leery of going any further after seeing this.
Any input is appreciated

Basic guide for root/unlock, etc.
Most important. You need that specific version of Odin and this ops in case of problem:
cooper_v1.0.ops - direct link
Odin-Multi-Downloader-v4.38.exe - direct link
Those link wont be live forever. That phone is not very popular so keep a copy on you pc, dropbox, etc...
Reference only : Odin Multi Downloader with pit and ops files (List of compatible version / phone)
Keep a stock image for you phone somewhere just in case that you want or need to go back stock.
GT-S5830D_TLS_S5830DTLKI4_S5830DTLSKI4_S5830DTLKI4 - S5830D - Koodo / Telus Stock image (pwd is "sampro.pl" if I remember right, or "samfirmware.com")
To root this is working perfectly :
SuperOneClick 2.3.3 - direct link
Then you absolutly need to replace your recovery 3E. that recovery is the reason why everything you flash abort. use this :
Clock Work Mod Recovery v5.0.2.6 Flashable via Odin
Unlock guide (not needed except if you want to change carrier):
Read and fallow those instruction : [TUTORIAL] Unlock Samsung [GT-S5570 / i5500 / Galaxy Ace] , no fla fla, fast and easy.
About compatibility with S5830D and S5830 rom.
I tried those rom recently on a S5830D without any issue:
[ROM] CM7.2-DEMOCRACY FINAL EDITION [22.10.12] [FireKernel OC]
[ROM][DEV] CM9.1 Android 4.0.4 [Update: 26.09.2012]
[[ROM] AOKP-M6 ( Milestone 6 ) [15/9/12] [NimsKernel v.2.1]
I was not able to boot on [ROM] CM7-APOCALYPSE-FINAL [09.07.12] [FireKernel OC] , even if I fallow those instruction, but was not able to boot on stock DTLKI4 neither, so this was probably an issue with my phone (sdcard partionning, init.d.. idk), should normally work too like any other rom...
EDIT : I FORGET DROIDACE & S3 EVOLUTION, 2 rom that worked perfectly on s5830d

First, you need to know what is your objective, what you want.
The best thing will probably be to limit yourself to root only. SuperOneClick will do the job, I use that exact same version to root my sgs and the sga of my girlfriend so it should work fine for you to. There a lot of website that explain step by step how to use it. Not that "one click" is hard. But you need all driver on your pc.
CWM is a custom recovery. It's good to have if you want to be able to flash custom rom or kernel because the stock recovery 3E will always give error and no results. It's why you need Odin to replace it. I used the cwm I link for the sga and it was pretty straight forward. But use it on a gt-S5830 ONLY. I see that you also have a GT-S5360, don't use that recovery on this. Usually the recovery is include in kernel, on sgs each kernel have its own custom recovery and most of them are provided in zip(to flash from recovery) or tar(to flash from odin), which make everything very simple. But I didn't see equivalent on sga yet (but I am new to the ace so that doesn't mean that it's not the same)
I will suggest you to start by only root your device, that gives you the opportunity to use many really cool applications. Get yourself familiar with a good backup software. Then after few weeks /months if you feel comfortable you can go further.
Replacing recovery, kernel and rom can be dangerous. You better be sure to know in which boat you go into.

ok, I think you dont need to flash cwm, just find a pc where you can run superoneclick and your phone should be root. Its all you need for link2sd to work.
You cannot root directly from the recovery 3E, that recovery have a weird signature check that give error on any signed zip I tried (at least its what I have experiment with it). Its why you actually need to do at least 1 step from a pc. But you dont actually need to replace the recovery for what you want, just root it with superoneclick or another method.
I dont have a lot of experience myself with the Ace, so maybe there some other method out there but I dont know them. And my i9000 had the same recovery when I had it and it give my a lot of trouble. superoneclick and a woking odin open all the door without trouble...

I don’t remember for sure. But I can tell you that the rom I currently using have Spanish in the language list:
[Rom][Official CM7 based]Nitrogen [Android UnChained][PSN FireKernel MemMod V3]
This rom have many requirement regarding sd-card partitioning and I would not necessarily recommend it if you not willing to be in a try/fail situation. But I have to say that it’s my favorite over all rom I tried on the Ace.
Also, my opinion had change a little bit since the moment I write this post.
I write what it is bellow this red portion before and it does not fit with my previous statement.
The impression I have that my phone is a lemon is maybe a sign that there some small incompatibility between S5830 and S5830D.
Also the comment about data backup is probably not relevant if it is a “friend” phone and not yours.
The Ace is the phone of my girlfriend and even after all those month it’s still me that using it because I did not find a satisfactory solution.
So this being said, feel free to build your own opinion, experiment some rom or keep your phone like it his stock
I did not find a single rom (not even stock or stock based) that don’t bug completely after some time on the Ace. My Ace is a lemon, it needs factory reset or re-installation once in a while... The Nitrogen rom is the one that work the best on MY phone.
One thing I would add to my previous post is: Don’t rely on CWM as a backup solution. Especially if you are changing of rom. Use a software to backup your app, data, sms, call, etc… Titanium Backup Pro is legendary and it’s working perfectly but there are many other alternative.

Probably yes!
Please post your Rom details.
I used a similar method to root my sgs2 for the first time a long time ago...anyway i had the same problem, what happened was that it only rooted the phone for me and for cwm i had to flash cwm 4(latest at the time) as a .tar file so maybe that will fix it...try it!

Hey bud, If you want to check if you are properly rooted or not try updating script in su or download a root only app like titanium backup & run it. If it comes up with a permission request then all good you're rooted. As for the cwm app, many people including myself avoid it like the plague as it can have incompatibility problems with "cwm recovery" which is different to the "cwm app". If you must have it you can download from the playstore, but make sure you flash zips through recovery not the app.
CWM is part of the kernel, so if you want it you must flash such one like CF-Root or Siyah.

Thanks for ur helpful replies, I was able to download CWM and reflash it using Odin, however when I tried installing new ROMs using CWM recovery mode, the phone wouldnt start, although that when I finish installing the .zip file everything seems to be done correctly, but my phone just wouldnt launch, when I turn it on I get the Samsung GT-i9100 and the yellow ( ! ) mark cause I didnt flash a secure kernel yet, then its gets stuck on the resurrection remix loading phase
Any inputs guys ? regarding I was able to restore the stock rom and launch the phone regularly, but now I can not :crying:
Can you get to recovery or download mode?
You can find at http://androidfirmwares.net/
U can check root by root checker app at play store.

Hi i'm having a problem with this rom, I flashed the most recent lp7 kernel, the lp7 one from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631934
Used the latest version of the rom, flashed it no problems. Aroma completed the install without any troubles.
But now i'm stuck on the presentation screen of the phone that says samsung galaxy S2 model number (the first thing that pops up when you start the phone)
I've re wiped (dalvik and battery stats too) everything a couple of times, tried the latest syriah kernel, nothing works.
Any ideas or suggestions would be vastly welcome.
Ok reflashed a couple of times and now I 'm stuck on the cMIUI loading screen.

1. Siyah kernel is not compatible with GT I9100G. Don't flash kernels/ROMs meant for GT I9100.
2. Post the link of the Rom you flashed
3. List all the steps you took while flashing.
4. Please include any additional info, that you think will be relevant to solving your problem.

You have just installed something that was not meant for your device. Can you enter Recovery Mode and Download Mode? You can find all the necessary files for your device in the following link,
Know your Device:Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i ~Root~Odin~CWM~ROM LIST
You can also check the following tutorial. But make sure to use CWM 5 for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i as the one mentioned in the below link is for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830. Here is the link,
HOW TO GO BACK FROM CWM 6.x TO CWM 5.x
Do post the result. Hope I Helped

Again its not for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i. You will find all the roms for S5830i from the link I gave above. Only use those roms. Installing a rom meant for other device can basically hard-brick your device. Try installing a custom rom through CWM 5. Also can you enter the Download Mode? Do post the result. Hope I Helped
btw hard bricking can only occur when you install a kernel for another device. Flashing a ROM from another device without the kernel would only soft brick.
Please do make sure you know the difference between 5830 (Cooper) and 5830i (CooperVe), as these two models are totally different on the inside. However, it does share similar, if not identical components with a handful other handsets, such as S5570I (TassVe), S5360 (Totoro), and S5660 (Cori, if I'm not mistaken).
For now, try entering download mode as it is a safer bet to revive your phone. The key-combo to press when the phone is off is Home+Vol Down+Power.

i installed CM9 from the link that you give me via CWM but still the same problem also it was successfully installed !
yes i can enter the download mode but the phone is not recognized by odin
thanks for your response
Phone not being recognised by Odin? Do you have the Samsung USB drivers installed? You'll need it both for Odin and ADB, among other things.

As @NightRaven49 suggested, you can reinstall the Samsung Drivers from the link specified earlier. Whenever your phone is not recognized by the odin, it most probably the drivers.

Not always though. Flashing a rom meant for another device on your phone can, in the worst case scenario, hard-brick your phone. Here is one such example,
hard bricked galaxy ace :'(
Hope I Helped

Glad to hear you got it working again Don't worry. Make sure to install roms from the above link and you will be safe You can also use the following link which leads to the official Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i Development Section. Here you will find all the mods, kernels, roms, etc for your device.
Galaxy Ace S5830i Android Development
Never forget that Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 and Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i are completely different. Also make sure to read all the guidelines from the rom thread before you install them. If you ever come across any problem while installing a custom rom, just flash the stock rom back using odin. Good Luck

Hello
Hi, I'm very new to this forum. I just got my Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 (International) and searched about rooting the GS3. Root will void the warranty and if I have a problem, I can ask the community for help.
What I really need to know is,
1)what will happen when I unplug the usb cable while my phone in the download mode?
2)Is there a problem that can't be fixed on Samsung Galaxy S3?
3)Most of the "how to root SG3 GT-I9300 using odin" root from android ICS and goes to Jellybean while my android version already 4.3 Jellybean. How to root it to android 4.4.4 Kitkat?
I need some advice should I root the GS3?
Maybe there is more thing I need to know but, this is enough for me to know at this time. Thanks
Hloo

Hello
1)Just dont unplug usb cable if u're flashing something to your phone while in download mode. if you're not flashing/doing anything then nothing happens
2) Could you be more specific? Like what kind of problem? Software side , i think there is not ^^
3) i9300 did not recieve official kitkat update, you can only have kitkat if you're going to flash custom ROMs(kitkat).
You have to root your phone on your current ROM ( 4.3 jellybean) , then u will flash latest cwm recovery and after that u will flash Any custom ROM u want ^^
You should indeed root your S3 to remove bloatware/system apps that u never use. This helps your battery to last longer, alot.
Also Touchwiz becomes smoother with way less apps on background ^^
For rooting:
download Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root for i9300, extract/unzip it.
Put ur phone in download mode and flash the file via Odin

You're welcome, hit the Thanks button if i helped you
After rooting and installing latest CWM recovery for your i9300, You can find Kikat custom roms in here(xda), download the one u like and flash it.
You need to put the rom in ur phone memory/sdcard, enter recovery mode and flash it.
Its 5 months already that im using S5 Sensation ROM | kitkat 4.4.4 for my i9300. This rom comes with S5/note4 features and performs pretty well.

No problem at all Rooting doesnt give you any kind of problem ^^ Just dont mess with system files unless you know what you're doing.
Main purpose of rooting is to remove bloatware ( useless system applications) and make battery life longer with some modifications.
