Searched the forum and didn't find an answer, so here goes....
Wifes RAZR was working perfectly with Foxfi (paid full version) until yesterday when it quit functioning, it would come on but not allow any devices to log on.
System ver.- XT912
Android ver.- 4.1.2
Build #- VZW 16-5
Phone OS is currently up to date.
This is the error message she gets-
Error: Permission Denial: writing com.motorola.android.providers.settings.MotorolaSettingsProvider uri content://com.motorola.android.providers.settings/settings from pid=4071, uid=10142 requires android.permission. WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS,or grantUriPermission()
I'm not currently at home to help figure it out, thus my post here. I will relay any help given via phone.
Thanks for any help given, in advance.
Updated post with Sys ver. and build #.
Anybody???
Deleted all FoxFi and PDAnet .apks then rebooted and installed free foxfi...same issue. Have no idea where to go from here, any ideas??
Update...Dropped the phone on the bathroom floor last night before bed, then the wife tried one last time to try and start Foxfi.....it started and works fine.
I have no idea how or why.
Fox fi not working
Mine is not working and getting same errors. How did you fix yours?
I heard about this fox fi when you can't used wifi hotspot but I skipped this thing I made changes to sql files. Now I can use wi fi tether without paying for tether plan.

I recently got the Droid Razr Maxx rooted it and installed wifi tether. when i open up wifi tether it works fine but at the drop down bar i get the stock wifi saying something about configuring the wifi. Should i worry about the stock wifi reporting back that im using the tether option or should i just keep using it?
thanks
That's weird. Is wifi turned off? Can you post a screenshot?

The touch to configure hotspot is the stock app for tether, if you're running the rooted version just ignore it and it may go away after a while. Either way you don't want to let VZW know you are tethering even with an unlimited data plan but no hotspot payment.

thats exactly what i get. I rooted my razr and im using the RAZRX V1.0 rom. I thought that the message from the stock hotspot would go away when i changed the rom but the message "tethering or mobile hotspot active" still pops up. I have a rooted htc thunderbolt and that message never popped up when i used the tether. It could be that i have a custom rom on it but im not sure. should i worry about that message popping up or continue using the wifi as is?
thanks
I only started getting just problem after updating to the latest Asia.en rom. also after updating to the latest asia rom, the wifi output seems to be greatly reduced.
Glad others are having this problem. Just got the Maxx and updated to the newest OTA and then rooted. I get that message every time I start a tether app (Open Garden and Wifi Tether).
This is seems like some people get the message, while others done under the same conditions. Maybe it's the root method we used, I used motofail.
I dont think its the root method because i used droid razr root and im getting that message.
I wouldn't worry about the mobile hot spot pop up. Just ignore it.
Is anyone else having an issue? It says wifi mode failed to enable.
Help! Lol
works for me... maybe reinstall?
well did the foxfi reinstall work?

Worked fine for me after taking the OTA update to ICS.
Works for me as long as I don't use a password.
SHVR MAXX
Don't have the OTA update (one of the ICS leaks) but it works fine in WiFi mode with a password for me.

Foxfi fails on Razr after ICS
I am having issues with my Moto Razr since ICS. Foxfi only runs after a reboot. If Razr has a fresh boot, FOXFI works well. That's stinks....
If it runs for a while, and disconnects, (accidently or for a reason), a fresh boot is required to restart FOXFI. Annoying....
Error message received: Foxfi fails, use Bluetooth.
I go to Bluetooth and that fails, too.
I stop all Foxfi services, try to connect still fails.
So, both options fail unless I reboot phone. This does not happen with other members of my family using Samsun, or older phones. Any ideas?
Also, prior to ICS I was able to us Razr native/stock Bluetooth to connect my phone's 4g data to my Ipad3. Now, that fails too, as does FOXFI..
Am I doing something wrong? I don't think so, and so many others on the boards are having similar issues. I've tried so many of the ftxes and add ons, and nothing helps,
I've notified Foxfi but have not yet received any response. Any help is appreciated.
Unrooted, .211 OTA. FoxFi works fine, with or without password set. If anything, it works quicker than on GB.
I hate to say this, but after I OTA updated to 4.04 my phone wasn't running to well - I did a factory reset and used Titanium Backup to restore my apps and system settings and my phone worked very smoothly... Perhaps a reset will work for you?
Okay finally upgraded to the official OTA version of ICS. Tested FoxFi and it works perfectly, both with and without a password.

Boom!
skadoosh!
Sorry for such a slow response. Oddly enough without changing anything about 6 days later it just started working. Kind of odd.
Not working for me. I am on the latest ICS eu leak (Epsilon V2). The device is connected having the correct IP address but the device cant connect to the internet.

Have you tried installing the FoxFi add on package from the play store? I don't know if it will help, but I have it installed and it works for me.

Sorry to post a new thread if this is duplicated, can't find the specific topic for not-rooted Razr yet...
I am running stock not-rooted ICS and I did do a factory reset after the update.
ICS has been running nicely on my Razr, but last night I needed tethering and couldn't get it running. It did use to work with GB, and I *am* paying for the tethering service (corporate).
Tried Settings => Tethering & Mobile Hotspot => Mobile Hotspot (tap to turn on). This turns the feature on for a few seconds, it provisions, then places a quick notification, then turns off. I've repeated this numerous times.
Can also duplicate this in Mobile Hotspot Settings. Configure Mobile Hotspot stays greyed out, so can't configure.
Is there something I'm missing?
can't reproduce this,
stock ics non-rooted razr maxx
I've been trying since I flashed .211.... My experience was about the same worked at first then out. I can connect and shows connection with limited connectivity. Can't get data to run correctly works for maybe a second the goes out. I give up sucksssssss. I may go back to gingerbread I need my tether... The guys at foxfi are working on it. Hopefully they figure it out.

On the same boat...
Hi, i have installed an Stock ICS:
673.94.324.XT910.PSHAsiaRetail.en.03 / 4.0.4
My device is rooted, i did a full clean install of ICS and also i am not able to tether when it worked just perfect on GB after doing this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1435619&page=2
I tried the same tips on that thread but it makes no difference on ICS, i have tried the native option, WiFi Tether beta version with different device profiles: Generic ICS, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Droid Razr (on this one the error is: "Setting ad-hoc mode.. Failed")
I hope someone can figure out how to make this work as it did on GB.

I don't mean to be cheeky, but given you are totally stock and paying for the service, I'd be burning up the lines to my provider for not providing for a paid for service. In the meantime, FoxFi from the play market should hold you over.
Call 'em up and make 'em fix it!
Cheers,
SteveRN
Actually just discovered the problem last night. I will be calling them when I get home from work today...
That said, I would much rather work here with all you wonderful foks here at XDA than to be in an automated phone message tree for 3 hours.
Well, I called VZ support from my office. They verified all my account stuff and looked over the phone -- all looked good.
Then they had me reboot the phone.
Now it works.
Duhhh.
So I just got an S3 (Sprint version) and rooted it right away. I have left it as a stock ROM. I have been using "Wireless Tether" (green colored icon) on my HTC Evo 4G for the past 2 years without any issues.
When I got my S3, I found what looked like an updated version of "Wireless Tether" in the Play store. This time it is a yellow colored icon.
I saw someone say that the profile they used on it was for the Galaxy Nexus CDMA.
I tried that and I could have sworn it worked when I tested it.
Well, today, I actually needed my tether and no device I own is picking it up, although it is appearing to function correctly. It grants it superuser permission and then says it is running.
But nothing.
I have tried FoxFi as well with no luck.
I then used Titanium Backup to backup the version I have been using on my Evo and Dropboxed it over to my new phone.
I installed it and then opened it up.
It was granted superuser permission just fine too.
I turned on tethering... and once again, it appeared to be working... but no device is detecting a Wifi signal.
Is there any app that works to wifi tether on a stock rooted ROM?
Any reason why these may not be working?
Any help is super appreciated! Thanks!
Also I just realized this got posted in the i9300 section and not the correct one... I dont know how to move it.

Well, incase anyone was wondering, I just flashed a custom ROM instead and now it works fine.
Wish it would have worked on stock ROM, but oh well.
Wifes Motorola Razr XT-912 running stock Android 4.1.2 has ran Foxfi hotspot (paid version) for 6 months perfectly but when she tried to start it yesterday it wouldn't start and gave her this error code-
Error: Permission Denial: writing com.motorola.android.providers.settings.MotorolaSettingsProvider uri content://com.motorola.android.providers.settings/settings from pid=4071, uid=10142 requires android.permission. WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS,or grantUriPermission()
Anybody have an idea of what went wrong or how to fix this?? We have used Foxfi's troubleshooting tips to no avail and 2 emails to them have gone unanswered. Wife and daughter use the hotspot daily for school and work, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.:fingers-crossed:
Update-
Just deleted all Foxfi and PDAnet from the phone then rebooted and re-installed, no luck....same error message about permissions.
No idea what to do now.
Update....Dropped the phone on the bathroom tile floor last night, no damage, but a few minutes later the wife tried to run Foxfi one last time before bed.....it worked fine.
I have no idea how or why.
