Hello,
So I have a rooted 16GB S4 running the latest hyperdrive rom.
for some reason I have like 10 GB of miscellaneous files that i have no idea where they came from. I've completely erased the phone a few times but the files. whatever they are still remain. Can anyone help me with this?
here is a pic of my storage.
Thanks!

You must have the original build and don't need safestrap. Check and see if you have several backups of your rom (or previous roms) saved on your phone.

You have a mdk build which is awesome for you. I suggest you educate yourself on what you have. Do you have extsd memory card?

You can use the app SD Maid to see what your biggest files are and where they are located. I'm sure there's many ways to search and find them, that's just a real easy way. Good luck

Another thing you could try is rootappdelete. It allows you to delete stock bloatware that you *probably* don't use. I used it to uninstall all the Verizon and Samsung bloat. It works, but the menu always says unsuccessful at first. The option becomes available to manually override the process, which allows the removal. I think I free a couple hundred mb using that. Another thing is Clean Master. I freed about 3Gb when I first used it. It can clean a lot of cache data (not harmful) to free up even more space. Hope that helps.
Cheers

If you made a nandroid of everything before you deleted it yeah it should. You could also download one of the stock images and extract everything you need from it.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
I deleted the apps before I had safestrap so i didnt get chance to make backup. Are there any stock images that work with Safestrap? I thought all images remove all the bloatware.

I have a mj7 build and i am running the Echoe international rom. It is a great rom other than it is full of bloatware. I don't have room for my apps.
Anyone know how these could be deleted? Since this is based on another device other than the mj7, normal mj7 flashable zips do not work.

Try using Titanium Backup to remove things.. That way you can also back them up to your external SD card first in case you accidentally delete something you needed. Backup....uninstall.. do a couple reboots and see how your phone is then running... then you can get rid of the backups if u wanted to save space. Just an idea.

I have done all the things in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2632730
Everything "seemed" fine until I tried using WiFi, I actually have to hit the wifi button and then restart my phone for the wifi to actually work, weird...
Besides that, the phone has just been restarting itself and it's happening more and more. And lately, it's wicked slow with just about everything I try to do... its just super glitchy. So I thought that maybe starting from scratch would be the best way to make things right, and then re-root...
But doing this caused many questions while reading through the forum and I'm hoping that someone can help point me in the right direction...
I guess the most important questions are:
Do I wipe the phone and do a clean install, going back to stock first?
If so, because I have followed the instructions in the link above, what are the exact steps so that I don't brick it?
Should I just buy a new phone?
If I did a clean install and then re-root will it run better than it is now?
I have many more questions but I think answering these first will help out a lot...
Thanks to whoever can help me out...

Edit: I installed the new Dodol Launcher and miraculously my WiFi is working again! So I uninstalled the Nova Launcher... I am happy that I can toggle my wifi settings once again =) But I read something extremely upsetting about 2mins ago in regards to the people with unlimited data which I have, and that is, we cannot use third party apps to tether the hotspot if we did the 4.3 update!!!??? Does anyone know if this is true? I thought that I couldn't tether because my phone is somehow screwed up, not because they blocked me from using it...

Thanks lacoursiere18!
After I get back to ramc3 and reunlock do you know how can I stop the OTA from popping up and trying to get me to install it? I want to be able to tether a mobile hotspot, so I need to stay on this one (because of the unlimited data), I think...?
On another note (no pun intended), I was starting the backup process and noticed that the phone has 10.3GB of internal storage, but when I add up all the folders it only amounts to 2.24GB! Does that mean that the OS is taking up 8GB!??? It just seems like a bit much and I can't see anything, there were no hidden folders or system files that I could find either... weird...

It has to be the something to do with the format of the memory card and the ROM. My twrp recovery reads that all of my stuff is still there. It's just the version of the ROM that doesn't. Any ideas?

Hey guys. So I'm running the current version of hyperdrive, while using safestrap. I understand that the other rom slot takes up "some" space, but this is kind of ridiculous. I just deleted all my pictures, music, and movies, and i still only have 1.69 gigs left on the internal memory! has anyone had this problem and found a solution for it?

Grab the app Disk Usage. It's small and free and can show you where all your space is going. Keep in mind to that if your using ROM slots + stock slot that all the apps you have on the stock slot will take up a lot of space.

Try tapping on Misc Files in that storage screen and see what pops up and if anything shows up that you are certain you are not needing you can delete it.
I'd also grab SD Maid from play store ( free ) and go through that app and let it scan everything, it has quite a few things it can scan and clean for you. It also has a " largest file" scan that can show you what's eating up your space.
Other than that... You want to have all your music pics and anything else you can to save to your external card and get rid of any apps you don't need.
Another option is to just install Hyperdrive to your stock slot and not run ROM slots if you can't seem to get your space back with how you configure your phone.

I would love to have hyper drive as my stock slot, the partition of safestrap is probably what's causing it. Any advice on how to move it to stock without losing my current settings? Also how if need be I could return it to stock (if problems arise)

I'm not 100% sure this is possible, but you could try making a nandroid backup of your ROM-1 slot, restore it in your stock slot, and then delete your Rom-1 slot, just leaving you with your daily use ROM in STOCK....Just a suggestion

Trying to flash the latest cm11 and I get stuck on the boot screen. ( boot loop ?)
Any suggestions ?
I followed skeptic's guide...kind of...I flashed straight from Hellybean to CM11. Along the way I had a bootloop. No big deal, hold power + Vol. up for 15-20 sec. then three finger into recovery, flash CM11 again, reboot to recovery, flashCM11 one more time. Profit.
Persistence payed off for me. Flash and reboot recovery till it takes.

you might want to try flashing SuperSU http://download.chainfire.eu/452/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip
also i had the same issue with the apps not moving to the SD card. there were actually quite a few games i couldnt install. it's an issue, i think, with the original Samsung 16GB class 2 SD cards. kitkat just doesn't like those.
a workaround for that is to install apps with the SD card out of the phone (if you cant install certain apps) and moving apps to the SD card just won't work. you have to upgrade to a newer card (class 6 or higher, i've tried a class 4 and it didnt work)
Well the no apps on the sd card is a kitkat issue, android changed so you can not do this anymore.
You can move their cached data to the sd card which helps some.
Don't know why on the no root, try the update skept linked to. Ya need to upgrade to it anyway regardless...

the sd card thing blows... i think i can actually do that on my s4 though but i know samsung modified the living hell out of kitkat (they actually did a lot right IMO, touchwiz has gotten a lot better imo)
also i didnt have root issues on the cm11 rom on my fassy. supersu should work though.
Well, I installed SuperSU. That runs (I think) but doing a root check with root checker app, it says I don't have root. Strange. Still can't install the xda app. I do like this Rom though. I'm wondering if the gapps I installed has anything to do with it. "PA GAPPS MODULE 4.4" that was suggested someplace in my reading about the installation of cm11. Oh, also I am using a class 10 32 gig sdcard with plenty of space left now so don't think that is a problem.
