Questions before selling my i9100 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys i'm going to sell my i9100 this week, and I have some questions. At this moment, I've Beanstalk installed (4.4.2, nightly release), but I think I'm going to install CM 10.1.3, because it's a stable release. This is a good idea, right?
I'm always a bit "affraid" that people could recover my personal data. Is there a way to avoid this?
How can I format the internal memory? There's a lot of garbage on that partition, personal data and some stuff from all the ROM's that I've installed. So, i want to format this partition. A little help... please?
And I think this is it. Thanks a lot!

Only formatting is not enough.

I know. But I don't want to erase the internal memory. I never used the internal memory to store my personal files, so that's not a problem.
Formatting the internal memory is a bit different of formatting a regular SD Card, I think... Otherwise, I will do this the simple way: Computer -> right click -> Format -> Done.

Go into recovery - mounts and storage. Here you can format your internal storage. But I still would recommend to write everything over with this program.

With what program? This one: Roadkil’s Disk Wipe utility ?

Hint: formatting will delete your data but it still could be recovered with programs.

Yes or any other program who does the same.

Format it through recovery or settings-storage and then use that program if you want.

I don't need to run that program, because I don't have anything important on that partition.
I will do that later. Thanks a lot for your help!

you can partition, with it no problem...although I don't see the need to, you have 2 gigs of space just for apps, and you can even put a lot of those on the internal sd.

[Q] How do I unpartition my SD card?

Hello Everyone!
I partitioned my SD card back when I had my Nexus One. Now, I'm interested in reversing that process. I just recently rooted, unlocked, and flashed my phone. Unfortunately, CWM doesn't offer an option to partition my SD card. How does one do that these days? I just want my SD card to be unpartitioned.
Thanks
Chump
You should be able to format the sd card form the phone itself, like going to menu, settings, storage, dismount sd card then format sd card, I think this removes partitions, also destroying all data in the card.

Backup sdcard contents to computer. On computer delete all partitions, then you will have one big unallocated space. Create a new partition using all available space. Copy backed up data back onto sdcard. Put back in phone.

I use minitool partition wizard.
Remember to format as primary, fat32 and then apply,

+1 as the standard windows partition tool does not delete the 2nd partition. You will lose everything on the 2nd partition as even with mini tool you can't access it, only delete it and format it.
Oh, exactly.. make sure to back up any important data.

To be honest, yeah. It's cool that he revived it. I am sitting here with a soft bricked Samsung Infuse and can't find a lick of information that is even slightly useful to me. I'm welcome to all new information and answers that could potentially help me. Why waste your time complaining that someone revived a thread? Got nothing better to do with your life, I see... Why are you trying to make an argument about a bricked device, unpartitioning an sd card (removable storage), and a thread that I haven't even looked at or read or anything since May (its now Nov)? and fyi, a quick search of your problem gave me this http://www.androidnectar.com/fix-bricked-samsung-infuse-how-to/ you're welcome. Please refrain from posting antagonizing posts like that as it deters from any use and can be reported to moderators.

formatting internal storage

my internal storage is down to 1gb and i was thinking of cleaning my internal usb storage and starting out fresh. Which folders should i backup on my pc and copy back after formatting internal usb storage? Are there any folders located on internal usb storage that would affect my phone from running properly aside from app datas? Is the efs folder stored in the internal usb storage? Thanks for any comments.

If you format it using the phone, it won't erase the efs folder, but I suggest that, if you haven't, you back it up before you do literally anything else, because you never know when something could happen to damage it, but normally, formatting the internal storage itself won't. The internal storage is an SD storage partition built into the phone itself. The efs folder and other important OS stuff is separate from it under normal circumstances.
Use the EFS Pro backup tool you'll find here on the forum. It's fast and easy. I wouldn't try to do it manually unless you know what you are doing, because it probably won't work, and actually could screw up the efs. The tool is safe and it works great. I've used it to both backup and restore my efs folder in an emergency, and it has worked perfectly.
One advise, copy all your internal sd data to pc, and browse forbwhat you need and what you can delete
Main data are:
Your camera photos
Files you download
Data files for apps and games
The last one can be redownloaded at worst, the first can be lost if not saved

If your on custom kernel like siyah/dorimanx etc u can format internal storage and if your on stock firmware theere's an option to format storage/factory reset right?.. like it's a secret
Manage to format my internal memory from setting>storage>select format usb storage
Unmount external storage 1st for precaution measures & backup all files in internal storage in your pc.
Flashed stock firmware to get fresh OS through odin.

[Q] Need help with Jellybeans 16 and SDswap

Hi everyone,
I just did a clean instal of Jellybeans 16 and clicked on SDswap on the stock Beans kernel. Everything seemed to go OK.
Under Total Space it says 64GB (the size of my card) with 40.96GB free
Under SD Card it says total space 10.33GB, and available space is only 306MB
Now it's telling me I don't have enough storage space and in my notification bar it says storage space is running out.
I installed some applications but they should have installed to the card, and their data too, right? Why am I encountering this error and how do I get it to work properly?
Thanks!
Thank God someone else is having this problem. I couldn't figure it out myself, looks good under settings and storage but doesn't seem to be doing its job.

You can't exactly... the "internal storage" in your screen shot is the /data partition for installing applications, that is the normal place apps go. Under normal circumstances you cannot install apps to your internal (12.5GB) storage, it is considered external storage to the operating system, hence why it is in /sdcard0 and your real microSD card is /sdcard1. To use these areas for apps you must use a tool like App2SD, Link2SD, or similar app, and only some apps can be moved, if it has a widget it cannot be moved and there are a few other rules that it will ward you about.
Okay.... So I did what you said and tried link2sd, but when moving apps to SD I get an 'INSUFFICIENT STORAGE ERROR'
And isn't there suppose to be an 'move to SD card' option in this app?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No, not in KitKat anyways, it doesn't have the SD card support that ICS had, Google hates SD cards for some reason, and has been limiting SD card support more and more in each Android version since Ice Cream Sandwich.
As far as the error in Link2SD, not sure, I haven't used it in years... Sorry.
I can be able to move apps to sdcard0 on omni kitkat rom...guess I'll stick 2 it,other kitkat roms excluding liquidsmooth and omni are a bit laggy

Sounds like you need to format the internal storage then mount it and just for good measure backup the external and format that and then mount too. I had a similar problem and when I did this all is well. I hope this helps.

How do you go about formatting the internal sd card. I just went from 4.2 to 4.4.4 and now TWRP and CWM recoveries will not mount and recognize the internal card. I can't even access the internal card to format it or anything else. How do I go about fixing this. 4.4.4 is pretty sweet.
