2 days ago i decided to root my samsung galaxy S2 i9100, after i rooted the phone i got a yellow triangle at the boot up screen which i then used triangle away, then my battery started to die very quickly it gets to 50% the screen flickers and then dies and tells me i have only 1% battery life.. i read that it could be the kernel, i was using siyah i think thats how it spelt so i then flashed the philsZ kernel and recovery.. thats has done nothing i still get the screen flicker and shut down at 50%, any ideas off what this is? is there a fix? do i have to spend any money to fix it ect, thanks.
Back to completely stock first to test, if problem persists new battery, if problem still persists replace USB board/port.

okay, one more question.. when i put my phone on charge, the charger is loose in the port it still charges fines but i have to either place the phone on a surface of hold the charger in so it doesnt fall out i have tried other chargers and its the same with them, the port looks fine from what i can see the charger is just loose, so any ideas on how to fix/make the charger stay in firmly?
Sounds like the board/port is either loose or not working as it should & needs replacing. You could always open the phone up & take a look/make sure it's in its right place. If after you've done that it's still causing problems, KeithRoss39 has a guide in the General section on replacing the board/port - it's quick/cheap (maybe US$15 or less)/easy to do yourself, his guide has all the info you need to get that done.
Edit - If that's happening with different cables, then it's obviously the port (either loose or needs replacing).

I was wondering if anyone can help, i tried flashing the new ics firmware with mobile odin last night, not the first time I've done this.
it got stuck in a boot loop but with just the Samsung logo, i left it overnight as it was late on and i left it on charge. When i checked it this morning the battery was dead and it now doesn't want to charge or turn on.
when you try and go into download mode it says low battery, is this phone now broken? is there anything i can do?
Did you do a full wipe in recovery?
no i didn't, and I regretted it afterwords
actually i think i may have done, i'm not too sure now.
should have sorted it last night whilst it still had charge
HEHE u just need a reflash , but... the battery completly discarged overnight.
just take a good battery from a friend with sgs2 or sgs , reflash and then charge u'r bat.. or simply charge yours somewhere.
The same happened to me yesterday when I tried to flash lpq. I took out the battery, connected to the charger, reinsterted the battery and turned on the phone then my phone would charge and I then used regular odin to flash.
thanks for all the help, guy i work with has an s2.
can't believe i didn't think to just swap the battery!
Just flashed LPQ with mobile odin too yesterday. No problems at all. Make sure you have the latest mobile odin and the file isn't corrupted

phone is up and running now, charging as i type this.
Possible fix, it worked for me..
So, after removing the battery I put it in the freezer. I have two so I figured i'd try this obscure method I found posted somewhere, I left it plugged into the charger without the battery. after 10 minutes or so in the freezer, i removed it took it out put it back in and it began charging, I powered up into CWM reset the battery stats, did a clean wipe of my current ROM, reinstalled the rom just to make sure it wasnt the rom doing it. and after powering on it was charged already to 5%
I have similar issue with my Galaxy S2 GT-I9100, Flashed with Odin could not turn off but still could switched on firmware was really slow so decided to flash to different had problem with welcome wizard so cleared cache and reset it in CWM, After that, phone were still working till battery get drained. Tried to charged it and turn on without any luck.Next day my mate told me that may be and issue with charging port, so i putted a knife inside usb port to clean it - no luck, when replaced battery with friends one phone turned on normally. When i pluged in the charger it turn off straight away and i noticed i condemned pins inside usb port so decided to replace Flex Cable inside after that phone can not start and charge even with friends battery. Any ideas ?
Sounds like you didn't replace the flex cable properly. Double check that.

I double checked and nothing, a lifted cooper connector in case they did not touch with case, and still nothing, do i need to put cover screws back to close circuit ? if not that mean still having problem.

You have short-circuited the pins in the usb port. As you connected the charge cable, the pins, which shouldn't contact each other, did.
I suspect that the main board got some sort of damage. It's basically a russian roulette of hardware faults, so only a repair shop could diagnose the problem, and most likely replace the main board.

Hi guys, having a bit of a problem with my phone atm. I'll be getting it sent off to be repaired anyway but I just wondered what it means.
On the charge screen (which is constant atm because the phone thinks a USB lead is connected), next to the battery is a yellow warning triangle and a thermometer.
I also can't turn the phone on unless I go to Recovery and reboot the system that way. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks.

It's a known problem with the USB port, take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216163
It's easy to fix though, just follow the instructions in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15924419&postcount=13 I had the same issue a few weeks ago and fixed it that way
Good luck!

Cheers mate, will have a look now.
Shut-down the phone and take the battery out. Clean the usb port. If it doesn't help then carefully bend the usb PCB a bit downwards.
If you can't repair it, then send it off for a replacement.
Flashing Triangle with thermometer
I had the flashing yellow triangle and thermometer and tried all the various different ways of fixing which didn't work. I got the USB component replaced but then couldn't charge my phone, I then had it replaced again but that didn't work either it was only when it was replaced for a 3rd time that it worked properly.
I've seen all these problems before on my wife's S2. These problems disappeared after I replaced the USB board. If you want to try diy replacement, be careful.......there are THREE different versions of this board and they are NOT interchangeable....... Final bit of advice......bending the contacts *could* work, but at best, it'll be a temporary fix.....the socket is obviously worn/damaged and will still need replacing eventually......
Edit....just realised, this is a necro of an old post.....never mind....the info is still of use to anybody who reads it.....

My phone has and orange colour triangle and a red thermother, it did turned on but tells me its overheating, what should I do?
hey, about a week ago I flashed my galaxy s2 with Resurrection ROM,everything went great,I also wiped emmc in the recovery(before I knew about the hard brick bug)
anyways everything was fine, restored via titanium backup, after about an hour I wanted to restart my phone,so it turned off,but never turned on,it won't respond to charging, usb connections won't go to download mode nor recovery..just makes some heat (as it was turned on)
so I took it to a well known repair shop and told me he could revive it with a J-Tag
but I'am just worried :s
what could be the problem?
What could the problem be ? Without opening your phone up & having a look/testing how would we know ?
Sounds like something on the mainboard or the USB/charging circuitry might have died given it died suddenly & not while you were in the process of flashing something/similar, though if he's telling you it's fixable with JTAG then he obviously thinks it's a NAND issue.
Take it to another repairer & get 2nd opinion (or a 3rd, 4th, etc).

My phone dead too.. Was using NeatRomLite and there was no issue with it.. And today... *sniff sniff*.. in the middle of using the phone, it got stuck.. I pulled the battery.. gave it 2 min.. and tried to power it on.. nothin.. no download mode, no recovery, no charging indicators.. nothin.. it has as much functionality as a piece of rock now :crying:
Any updates on your S2's???
today i checked my phone and within an hour the battery had gone down from 70% to 30% and was hot reading 48 degrees celcius on widgetsoid monitor. i rebooted and it kept on draining till it got to 0 and turned off. once i got home and tried to charge through USB and A/C but nothing happens, the phone wont turn on or charge, blank screen. i saw it flash the battery charging icon for about a second but it went away straight away. about a month ago i was running cm9 and then flashed 4.0.4 to have a look at the differences but not long after flashed siyah kernel with odin and restored my cm9 cwm backup. i have been on cm9 and siyah kernel for a long time and thats what it had running today. ive had usb and a/c and misc charging current set to 600mA for quite a while as well, and when i charge the phone in my car it always gets a bit hot on the back.
is my phone dead from hardbrick or a problem with the usb charging circuit?
i have enquired about warranty where i bought it from and now waiting to hear back from them.
Before one month ago a strange problem appeared.i flashed different roms and kernels but a few days later after a complete dischargeof the battery when I completely charged my phone with the charger it tried to reboot and it didn't pass the boot screen. This problem was solved only with a full wipe and a reflash of a rom.But if I try to use the charger instead of pc to charge my phone or if I complete discharge it sometimes It will not boot.i tried a lot of different roms and kernels without success .any ideas what causing this problem?

Probably the USB board/port. KeithRoss39 has a guide in General (not stickied; search for 'replace USB charger board') which will enable you to replace it yourself quickly/easily/cheaply (<US$15).

if it is based on cm try stock roms
if it is not then i think the problem is from your charger .. try someone else .
you can also try wipe battery statue from recovery
Good luck

Ok thank you very much for your answer.Do you think that it could be the charger instead of usb board/port because it seems that if i try to charge it via usb cable from pc or if i try another charger it will boot normaly but the problem is that i don't know for sure because i only use my charger when the phone is completely discharged (turned off) ,i usually have my phone connected to pc all the time,so i also suspect that it may be the reboot that causes the phone to boot loop and it may be not connected to the charging proccess at all. What is your opinion ?
Also is there any way to test my usb board/port to see if it working correctly before replacing it ?

I tried both stock and aosp roms but with no luck.
I tried different chargers but the problem doesn't appear every single time so i don't know for sure if the problem is from my charger.Sometimes it boots normaly with mine too.
I didn't try to wipe battery stats from recovery but how it could be useful ?I couldn't find a lot info for that...

Might be the charger, so try a new one if you like. But don't be surprised if you end up having to replace the USB board after. The issues you described with booting/not booting sound like symptoms of the USB board on the fritz.
When the boards start dying, they rarely stop working completely (at least initially), and often show a couple of faults, but work OK in other ways (might be able to transfer data OK but can't charge as an example, and so on).
As a test, do a completely clean install of stock & test it for a few days, if you see the same thing, it's fairly likely the hardware fault. Up to you which way you want to go in that case, but I'd be replacing the board.
Edit - In light of your post just now which crossed with my reply, it's definitely the USB board. You've tried different chargers, you've tried stock, that seals the deal as far as I'm concerned. Put it this way, if it's not the board, it's something else hardware-wise.

Ok i will start testing then and replace the usb board if needed.Another thing that confuse me is why the phone boots with a full wipe and re-install of a rom ?Also in what way the USB board can affect the booting proccess?
EDIT :I am not experienced with smartphone hardware so i need some info...
I don't think that anybody outside of Samsung themselves would be able to tell you why one of their phones acts the way it does.....they know their hardware and the way software interacts with it in a way that nobody else can.
All I know is that I've handled TWO S2's with faulty USB ports, and they have exhibited various symptoms as a result.......
1) phone displayed charging icon even if it wasn't plugged in.
2) phone NOT charging even though it WAS plugged in.
3) PC/Laptop not recognising phone when USB connected.
4) phone randomly shut down.
5) phone would not boot unless boot option in CWM selected.......
I could go on, but you probably get the picture.
These issues stopped occurring on both devices as soon as I'd replaced the USB assembly......
Choice is yours fella, but I know what I'd be doing.

I replaced the usb board about a month ago but i still have bootloop issues that appear randomly.
I also have some other issues now.
First of all when i try to transfer files from/to pc the copy procedure will stop at some point and then windows does not recognize my phone or a pop up window appear asking to fix my drive but when i try to fix it says that the drive has no problems.
Apart from that if i try to remove the battery and then put it again with the charger still connected to the phone the battery percentage fall from 100% to 10%-15%.
I dont know if all these problems are related but it seems that the usb board is not responsible for these issues because i have the same problems with 2 different boards.Any ideas what else hardware-wise might be ?
Thanks in advance !

I read carefully the OP and the replacement that i bought is the same 'rev' version with my old one.So is possible that the new usb board is faulty too ?
Is it possible to be something wrong with the internal SD ?
I want to mention that i have used a PIT file posted by @metalgearhathaway to increase data partition but the procedure was successful...
The only reason that i mention it is because then i had the faulty usb board and i used ODIN for the procedure but it passed all stages succesfully.
Mate.....remapping the partitions with a pit file is a pretty major thing to forget to mention.....
It's pretty advanced and/or risky to start messing with pit files.....it's also something i've never done, so i'm unsure of the consequences.......apart from the obvious 'permabrick' risk.
I don't even know how you'd revert to the factory set partitions if you needed to.....though i'd guess it'd involve flashing another pit file. All the issues you've previously mentioned (apart from the battery) *could* have been caused by the pit file and that being the case, you're lucky it wasn't a whole lot worse. As for the battery, that could simply be the fact that batteries do fail, and if yours is the original, this is probably the case given the age of the phone and the fact that Samsung only offers a 6 month warranty on the battery anyway.......
Sorry fella, but as there's a pit file flash involved, you've moved into territory that I can no longer advise on........

Hello and thanks for taking the time to read this, let me explain a bit first about what happened:
A week ago, i changed my Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 from Cyanogenmod 4.2.2 to Slimkat 4.4.2, and everything was perfect the first day, but then i stumbled upon something that didnt happen before, suddenly my battery stopped charging, it would show its connected, but would go up in %, after trying to connect and disconnect for over an hour i got it to charge a phew % up to 15% and got stuck, so i tried to create a new battery stats with terminal, so i did and it charged for a bit then stopped, so ive been using the phone like this for a week now, i took it to a repair center and they told me it was the battery, since they plugged in a battery of them and started charging flawlessly, so i bought a new battery, but now it kind of charges for a while but gets constantly stuck at a random %, so i unplug and plug back and charges again. So the question here is:
a) Is this caused by a bad rom flash and not wiping anything? i wiped a memory card, but dont remember if it was external or internal, my pictures and everything were still there.
b) Is my charging port busted? wich seems weird because this didnt happen before.
Thanks in advance!
Yep might be the USB board/port (I presume you bought an original Samsung battery ?)
Clean install of stock, test for a few days. If it's still happening, replace the USB board/port. Search for KeithRoss39's guide in General (search for 'replace USB charger board'), has all the info you need; quick & easy to do yourself will cost you ~US$15.
Edit - Actually, now that I think about it...Don't flash stock with Odin, just in case the board is on the fritz. Get one of the CWM flashable stock roms from Wanam's thread in Development & flash/test that for a bit (still do a wipe though). If the board is on the fritz & you try a flash, there's a very slim chance you might brick it (Keith has a theory some of the bricks we see are people attempting flashes with dodgy USB boards).

Thanks for the reply man! i actually put the old battery inside and its working a bit better, never the less its still frisky to make it charge, sometimes it charges for a good chunk of battery then stops, but says its still charging, then i unplug, plug back again and keeps charging, if i were to replace the usb board/port, wich version should i get? my cellphone is the Samsung Galaxg SII GT-I9100, but ive been looking at some charging port replacements and they say something about REV 2.2 and stuff, so wich is the one i should get? This is the one im thinking of buying, is that one the correct one? THANKS FOR THE RESPONDE BTW!
