[Q] BUG battery level rising after sudden drop - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I use Cyanogenmod 10.1 stable on Samsung i9100.
today I experienced system to freeze after I tried to run one of games.
after reboot (holding power button to restart) I saw battery level droped from 66% to 18%.
After some time I have noticed that battery level is rising after 1,5 hour it is 26%.
Should I consider it as normal?
BR

Two reasons
1. Battery chip is not behaving well. Reset it anf see if it works
2. Battery is about to die, no remedy, have to replace sooner or later.

It's a bit "normal" in some moments. Just charge it when it's need to be charged. And after that charging cylce things are normal again. It usually happens when your phone freezes (like in your situation)

I think this is fuel gauche chip problem. I have it too, my battery is still healthy. I can run 1 day on it and use it for about 3 hours.

[Q] Problem with Battery

Just now 100% charging is completed and got the Beep but after unplugging the charger it showed 96% this is the 5th time I am getting like this..Any idea how to fix it? thought it is FW bug and changed to KI8 from KI3 still same
EDIT: Now I am rooted and did wipe battery stats still same problem
Do you have CWM? My battery went mad two days ago. All I needed to do was clearing the battery stats via CWM.

Even more interesting. If you phone freezes and you need to do a cold reboot (hold power until reboot) the battery level can drop like 20 or even up to 50% at a time. (it then slowly increases by itself).

Helped increase my battery life, others with the same problem as you said it worked too, good luck!

I don't know if the stock recovery has this option, so you should check it. If it doesn't, you could consider rooting your phone.
It worked for me, after my battery went crazy. It dropped from 100% down to 86% in 5 seconds. And when I checked the stats in the menu, I saw three lines if which one made an upside down looping. The first moment I was like "wtf?".
But if you don't want to, you should go have your phone repaired/replaced.

Ón my side it worked only with this steps:
1. Charge over night
2. run the app battery calibrator
3. unplug charger
4. drain battery all the way down till it shuts off
In this way yout phone can remember what is 100 % and what is 0%
PS: You need root permissions
I have asked Samsung Support on twitter about my problem they said: The device is fully charged, however, this is done to prevent overcharging which stresses the battery.

I have a similar problem. My phone randomly turns off/restarts. Afterwards, my battery icon turns gray for a few minutes. When it comes back, it drops by ~10-20%.
This actually happened to me before several months back. Last time, I called HTC and they gave me a new battery. That worked for a couple of months, but now it's back. I'm currently working with HTC tech support to get it figured out.

I was, but I recently installed Energy rom. The problem is still there. I'm running my phone in safe mode now and seeing if my phone restarts.
Quite a few people have problems with stock batteries. I encounter the same problems regardless what ROM I'm running. I bought a couple Anker 1900 mAh batteries and will report back.
You need a new battery, but you can try draining the battery all the way down to the point that the device can't even come on, then it charge it over night all the way back up. See if that helps, it tends to help with this battery issue.
Ido I have the same prob but I was thinking how about resetting battery stats in recovery

I am so relived to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem. Let me tell you guys my experience with up to 3 batteries, various roms, and weeks of googling...
So basically, changing battery do fix the problem; but only temporarily. It can fix the problem for about a couple weeks or months, but the problem will come back anyway. I am on my third battery now and switching between the batteries; so, I am pretty sure that it is only a temporary fix. Cycling between the three battery sometimes is pretty helpful (but again, it is just a temporary fix).
Another way to fix it temporarily that works pretty well for me is to take out the battery, wait for about 5 seconds, and turn on the phone again. It only fix the problem for about a couple days though; so, might as well switch battery if you got another battery.
Another possibility to fix it without playing with the battery, you can try factory reset or install another custom rom. It sometimes helps also, but a pain if you are not the type that likes to try different roms.
Lastly, the better and simpler fix is to reboot to recovery, wipe all caches and dalvik, fix permissions, and reboot again. This can fix the problem (but only temporary).
Out of those four tries, I find that swapping battery or full wipe / install
Custom rom tends to fix the problem for a longer time. I haven't been able to find any permanent fox for the random shutdown yet. But, I hope those information helps for anyone who have the same problem

The draining battery does work. Just turn EVERYTHING on to drain it (brightness, GPS, bluetooth etc.) and watch some videos to drain it down all the way. After this do a mini power cycle (pull battery wait awhile, put it back, then leave it charging for at least 10 hours).
This solved the problem for me

Exactly, worked for me and quite a few others, I've tested it myself when I had bought my second device used, it came with this very issue, I killed what was left of it and let it charge over night, it's been remarkable ever since, but different folks different strokes, the next best thing to do is to change the battery since that solved it for others. And for the record, the oem battery is the best to replace it with since some anker batteries have only made it worse for some.
getting my newly acquired Amaze device in a couple of days and will see if i run into this issue... god hope not lol... if battery issue does occur - will follow thru the full batt drain solution (mentioned above).

I'm having this issue as well. My phone would randomly just shut off on me while using it at say, 75%, then turn off. When I boot it back on, it drops to around 50% or so.
Does the battery drain fix truely work? My girlfriends phone does the same (its an acer though).

I have my stock battery and 2 Ankers. The phone will randomly die with any of the batteries. The battery drain trick seems to work okay, but it certainly isn't a "fix" IMO.
I drained my stock battery last weekend and charged it to 100% on the Anker charger. Worked great down to 10% on Sunday. Charged the phone to 100% on the nightstand, while I slept Sunday night. Phone randomly shutoff at ~25% at work on Monday. Had similar results with the two Anker batteries too.

Major battery drain when rebooting

Hey this is my first post on xda
When my phone freezes for abit it automatically resets itself which i suppose you can consider normal. But after the reboot i have to connect charger. I can have around 70% charge but after the reboot its more like 10%. I have also gone through 3 genuine samsung batteries in the past 3 months. I can only put it down to bad phone voltage.
I have had this problem with my SII for the past couple of months. Its around 16 months old and not yet due for an upgrade so im hoping to fix it.
The pictures show my battery dropping around 30% just because my phone became unresponsive and would not work so i restarded it.
Cheers in advance, Chris

Happened to me quite a few times too. But mainly because of I was on a non stock kernel.
Would want to know whats occuring within it to cause such a drain.
Maybe its a battery calibration issue. It was not discharged instantly but the reading was inaccurate. ?
Have to tried recalibration techniques?
Post your ROM and kernel details; Goto Settings - About phone, and post everything you see
Nothing to worry about. The fuel-gauge chip just gone crazy.

Yes..agreed fuel chip gone crazy. Here is my screenshot. Discharged instantly when rebooted or as the system read it. Then without charging the battery reading gradually increased..!! Strange

Assuming you have rooted your SGS2, have you tried to reset the battery stats in CWM?
Battery stats is the file which is responsible for battery graph in settings. So deleting it won't help.

[Q] Battery life issues

Hello
I've been having some battery problems with my sgs2. I've bought it in june of 2011, it is my first smartphone and I was immediately pleased with it. great phone, everything working properly. since it was my first phone I was a light user and the battery could last me 2 days, sometimes it even got to last 3 days. However, at the beginning of the year I felt a sudden drop in battery performance, coming to last only 12-15 hours with light use. by this time I became more of a medium-heavy user and under "normal" use the phone would be dead at 10 hours, maximum.
I bought a new battery, official samsung 2000 mAh, and the performance became slightly better. It would at least last a day of work, but the performance was never as good as the original 1650 mAh battery when I first bought the phone.
by this time I began experimenting with ROMs, ressurection remix, miui, and now pfittech. but as time passes the performance is always dropping and today something strange happened. I locked my phone at 17% of battery, and after a while I checked it and the battery was at 18%. I checked again and is now at 19%. Right now it's 21%. What the hell?
can anyone help me? any help would be much appreciated.
p.s. i've tried calibrating the battery and I've read in the forums that on JB it's not necessary because the phone now clears battery stats when they reach 100%. I've also changed the stats with extweaks to absolutely no effect. I've been reading many topics on this but nothing quite seems to fit my situation.
mate u have to reset gauge in extweak then kill ur battery and pull off for 5 min then charge that should do

[Q] Galaxy S3 screen flickers, network drops, battery drains faster

Hello All,
My Galaxy S3 device is almost 1.5 years old; Currently I am experiencing this issue for the first time. My android version is 4.2
Phone battery is charged to 80%. While net browsing or during working on an application, the network of my phone suddenly disappears and the phone screen flickers. After this the screen freezes and nothing works. I have to shut down the phone. But if I try to power on the phone, it fails to do.
The welcome screen comes and the phone does not turn on. Later if I try to connect my charger, it shows very low battery (nearly 2 %) remaining. Then I have to charge it all over again to use my phone. It seems that the sudden disappearance of network, screen flicker and screen freeze drains my battery charge.
I have done factory reset; still the problem continues. Also, I have removed all of the applications, right now only pre-installed applications present. Still, the problem seems to be continue.
Any possible workaround is present on this issue ? I have already tried playing with 'Developer Options' but it didn't seems to be work out:crying::crying:.
Thanks,
Regards,
Rohit

Replace the battery first, the next step is much more expensive -replace the motherboard.
