I've bought a phone tha is a poor S4 clone.
MTK Root and Tools recognized it like this:
Hardware : MT6575 (MT6517 is Fake!)
Model : GT-I9505
Build number : Android ICS
Build date UTC : 20130725-095723

The thing is: The UMTS (3g) network don't work. It only connects through Edge network.
I've tried to restore IMEI - nothing happens...
I've used the MobileUncle tools to see the bandmode, but it shows only the 2g network (the umts mode is grey, and I can't set it up...)
My first theory was that the firmware doesn't support the 3g network, but, since I couldn't find a best firmware, that theory was... stuck.
My second theory was that this SoC (MTK6575) doesn't have 3g access but after some research i saw a lot of people tha have the same SoC and connects to this network, so...

You were most likely right on the device not supporting the bands your carrier uses. Most cheap knock offs are set to use China's bands which don't match most of the rest of the world.

Well, my research says that the SoC Mtk6575 Works on WCDMA (3g) in 850/2100 MHz.
In Brazil (where I live) our carriers uses both bands...
The thing is: Maybe a diferente firmware could give me na option to set these bands and put this **** to work....

Just because the chip supports the bands means nothing. It is all about how the antenna is programmed. Most are programmed to work in the country they are released in.
A firmware will not change this. It is hard coded in to the antenna.

I got my phone rooted, then installed RootAppDelete and removed all unwanted chinese apps. Every thing went fine and phone is working very well except three features (Dialer, Contact and Message), whenever I open any of them get an error msg:
System is not authorized and will automaticlly shut down (screen short attached)

My gps,wi-fi tether, mms, wcdma is not working. I instaled mobile uncle that could help me solve my problems, but whatever i try to do,

I tried myself using the internet and xda forum to root this phone. No luck...searched local people who said they could root it, 3 times nobody has had any luck....I was told it's not a real android phone, a hybrid. Another told me the firmware is burnt into the chip and cannot be copied. The third guy said he couldn't find a way tried a number of solutions, but there must be a solution. I can help, you will need to pull the stock recovery from your device then use some XDA user made tools to port your stock recovery into a custom recovery that will allow you to simply flash a root.zip to gain root access then use SP flash tool to upload it back to device. OR if nothing else try this, it has worked on a bunch of different phones.

Hi guys! Im a newbie here, i do have the same phone with the TS, however, i messed up with my vold.fstab file.
I cannot access my SDCARD though it was inserted.
**I did that swapping the INT to EXT CARD thing. And my biggest mistake was I didnt made the back up file of the original file before i changed it.

I'm trying to somehow get Danish language on it. Tryed different "locale apps" from Play Store, not working.
Got it rooted with cydia impactor so i could get it backed up with MtkDroidTools.

to lock wcdma check setting wirless network mobile network network mode and select wcdma only if this option not available go to dial pad *#*#4636#*#*
for 3g twek you can use this link

it cannot lock to 3g, whenever i choose wcdma only it will back directly to GSM only
the same is happen in phone testing using that dial, always back to gsm only

from the first time i get this phone i cannot able to switch to wcdma,
but the spec on the box says the network is GPRS and WCDMA

i have some wonder,
in my firmware i saw modem_1_2g_n.img
on my friend phone with same spec but different lcd i saw modem_1_wg_n.img
and his phone is 3g,
i want to flash his rom to my phone but it will be crash cause different lcd driver,
i want to unpack my boot.img but the filesystem is ubifs, what should i do ?

Hi, can you please upload your firmware? I got the same phone and problem with lcd display, after flash this rom "GT-I9500_MT6572_1-otm8012a_fwvga"

I have same problem here with the S4 Alps Clone, the 3G not work, cannot set wcdma.
I saw my internal modem is: "modem_1_2g_n.img", I found on the net the modem: "modem_1_wg_n.img" which is working on 3G, ... but how I can use the working moden, because I cannot rename or delete the old one?
My clone is rooted.

have any of you guys tried "mobileuncle mtk toolbox" app from playstore
1) enter engineering mode MTK
2)Go to telefony tab and tap on bandmode , now chose your sim slot.
3)Tick box WCDMA (maybe unticked)

i have the same unit and experiencing the same problem, have tried the mob uncle tools but can't lock on wcdma

You can take/copy the modem file from your friend, then copy to your s4.
But before you change your modem file, dont forget backup your own modem file,
put in the safe storage, like pc/micro-sd.
Put in /system/etc/firmware...... next change the permitition : rw-r--r--
then reboot...... hope can help you. Good luck
A friend of mine did something stupid and tried to install a CWM-recovery for his MT6589 (model: AT-AS50SE) and killed his baseband in the proces. No backups are available and both the Serial Number, baseband and IMEI say unknown. Basicly I think his NVRAM is fried and restoring the correct IMEI information on Android level doesn't work because of the broken baseband.
The device looks like a probable iOcean X7 Elite clone, but I haven't been able to find any roms with this baseband version and the original ROM is not available (the company hasn't responded yet). Also, I'm not able to use any of the tools (SN Write Tool, Maui META 3G, IMEI & SN Writer) because it won't go into META mode (because of the broken recovery mode, I can't go into recovery mode anymore) or because I don't have the correct Modem and AP database.
Can anybody provide me a backup of their AT-AS50SE or a compatible device so I can restore the baseband? Or does anybody have an other idea how to restore the baseband on this MT6589?

I think you might try to flash the baseband from another MT6589 device and then use Mobileuncle MTK Tools to restore the IMEI.

I have a ZP980 and I know in some roms the baseband is taken from other mtk phones.
According to my searches, it's not possible to really flash a baseband on an MT6589 beside then replacing the modem.img and/or rewriting the NVRAM through the tools I mentioned earlier. I can't get into META mode and I tried several modem.img files.
Formatting the NVRAM and soft-replacing the IMEI through MobileUncle MTK Tools didn't work as well.
I guess that waiting for the original company to provide the files.

I have Acer liquid E3 I rooted using Kingo root tool install seperate SU and twcp for KitKat had a few great ROMs work then tried Samsung galaxy ROM now no baseband imei or sim detection, my back up was lost due to dad formatting my laptop will I be able to use this method? If so what will I need? I've tried reflash stock ROMs but no luck
