[HELP] Custom ROMs for Samsung Galaxy Win (GT-I8550L) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been looking all day for a custom ROM for my device (on title) but without any luck. On my search I luckily came across these forums, so now I shall ask you, is there any way to install CyanogenMod in this device (it's currently unsupported) or any other custom ROM with the ThemeChooser (Paranoid Android or AOKP would be nice too, for example), since my final objective is to make it look kinda like this: Transparent app background and transparent status bar.
I would really appreciate your help since I'm just getting into this and since this device isn't much popular, I'm having a hard time.

Help i8550l
IS there any way to install a cwm recovery in this device? i've been googling this for 2 weeks now... and i cant find a way...
i already tried
recoveryX (device not supported)
ROM MANAGER (not supported)
odin - i cant find a valid cwm recovery file for this device, i always get the "FAILED"
try to use the factory recovery mode to install a kitkat rom, but it does not show any files in the sd card.
please help!

[Q] cwm recovery boot loop, will not acept a rom install :S

Hi all
ok so i'm a bit nervous writing this expecting all manner of attack in that i may be posting something that's been posted before lol, i've been working on this phone from start to finish about 9 hours, over two days..... i've googled just about every combination of words to do with the title and everything in between but nothing seems to come close to what i actually need to do as nothing works
i have an LG Optimus 2x / p990, it had ICS on it but was far too slow to handle this, it needs something a bit less hardware intensive to run smoothly, so i went ahead an found cyanogenmod stable ...... 7.2 i installed sdk after an hour of finding out how it works i finally got adb and fastboot working, i then needed this, that, this, that, etc etc etc.....
to cut a 9 hour story short, i've managed to get myself to the point where i wiped the phone of everything but CWM partioned for ics via the AIO software but CWM will not let me install any ROM onto the phone. to be more precise it says i have installed CM 7.2 successfully! (i've tried this via the CWM via external SD card and sideload) i reboot the phone it's as if i've never done a thing, no trace or suggestion i've even attempted it on the internal card... nothing
i'm at the point now where i'm quite happy to just have my phone back now and install ICS 404 but can't use the LG kdz install software as the pc doesn't see the phone as an LG p990 because it's recovery and i can only get it to come up as internal and external memory cards
i'm not really a noob when it comes to tech stuff but this little phone has me stumped.... please, i'm begging you, help me any operating system that can get my phone working will do, preferably the CM 7.2 if not back to ICS 404?
and i know, i know i should have backed up but i had no idea it could be so complicated just to put an OS on a tiny computer
ETA i've tried that exitrecovery.zip thing and it did nothing :/
It's quite simple
Try to reset and unroot/re-lock the phone then unlock and root, then what you need to do is get ROM Manager and get the Clockwork Recovery and the version that supports your device, although you might need to hook up your phone to your computer for the process to work.
Also put back in ICS 4.0.4 when unrooted and re-locked again like stock and make sure it's the stock file for your phone.
And after you got ROM Manger and the Clockwork Recovery
Then just in Clockwork wipe out all data on the device and don't do a factory reset in Android just with clockwork and delete everything that was made on that phone then install CyanogenMod.
After that it will seem to take a long time or just a while to boot up and then it boots faster then the original ROM.
If you have Clockwork Recovery just wipe out all the data while it's still in there and you should be set.
When it was my first time putting in CyanogenMod it was 10.1 RC1 on my Nexus 7 and it didn't work and forever bootlooped, and that was because i forgot to wipe the device. Then after going into Recovery with Clockwork I deleted all the data of my tablet and it worked but took 5 mins. to boot up which is nomal.
And if Clockwork doesn't work, do the same with TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) and download that which can be found here teamw.in/project/twrp
If you don't want to get ROM Manager or that one isn't working then try this website to get Clockwork because it has the whole list of devices and I recommend downloading from the website instead of their app. clockworkmod.com/rommanager
cheers for that, i've tried all of the above still to no avail, having a think about it the phone is partioned for ics, i'm trying to install CM 7.2 which as i understand isn't ICS so.... maybe the error is that it's a different partioning sequence/setup i'm gonna go for CM 10.1 and see if that makes a difference.
to add i'm not sure why everyone rants and raves about CWM, TWRP seems much more complete and advanced do you (or anyone else) know the main differences?

TWRP has a completely touch driven interface that is 100% themeable, while CWM has a touch version and non-touch version. Also TWRP has a built in file manger and terminal emulator where as CWM does not. A lot of people like TWRP because it provides a lot of good features with a simple and straightforward yet powerful user interface. I would recommend taking a look at this guide if you want more information on the differences between the two http://www.droidiser.com/2013/04/twrp-vs-clockworkmod-recovery.html?m=1.

ok i managed to do it i can't remember exactly how but some good links and info for anyone who stumbles across this in need of help
i went for cyanogenmod 10.1 to make this work i used this AIO tool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737
repartioned with OLD partion layout and BL
installed TWRP (included in the aio)
if you need to reinstall the google play store make sure you have right version if you flash it and get "unfortunately setup wizard has stopped" repeatedly you have the wrong version see this link for which one you need http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Gapps
obviously make sure you have adb and fastboot setup and drivers too.... it's a long process installing the entire sdk, personally for flashing this once and most definately not inclined to do it again i'd go with just the adb and fastboot rather than the whole sdk
also i found a keyboard error with 10.1 where i'd type 1,2 or 3 characters and the keyboard would minmise not sure if there's a proper fix (i found one thing where you disable the autocorrect but didn't want to do that) so i decided to download and install hackers keyboad which is based on the gingerbread keyboad and is much better and comes with full features and integrates nicely
coupled with the info above from YoyoscratchMC and you should be in the field
good luck to all i was ready to jump out my window with my phone first so i could land as hard as possible on it last night but i got there in the end lol

[Q] Karbonn Smart Tab 7 Help in stock rom backup

Hi All
I recently bought a ST7 but was disappointed to see no compatible recovery or custom roms for it.
A LITTLE HISTORY:
I did find a Crystal_Root.zip on the net which installed the SU on my tab.
But I couldn't change any CPU settings via the kernel tuner or the rom toolbox (they were buggy and acting up) and it corrupted my system in the end after I modified build.prop to add the windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec.
I triple checked the property name and value in rom toolbox, it asked for a reboot when I tried to save the changes and it got stuck at the boot animation screen.
I had to take it to the customer care to get it fixed (which wasn't very pleasant, had to wait there for 4 hours to get it done).
NOW, THE IMPORTANT BIT:
Is there a way to backup my stock rom and put it in a update.zip or such so I could flash it back on if I have a similar situation in future?
I did try: adb pull / and copied the files over to my pc (but not sure about the updater-script part or do I not need it?)
To an experienced developer, a twrp or clockworkmod port for ST7 would be great and much appreciated. I know there is one for ST8 and 10 but none for ST7?
Maybe asking for too much, a custom rom port of jelly bean for ST7?
P.S. it is my first post here. So please be kind.
Any help with Andriod Upgrade?
I too have been looking out for custom rom or atleast upgrade to Android 4.1 or 4.2 for the Karbonn Smart Tab 7 (ST7).
Has anyone been able to upgrade? Because lots of issues with stock ROM. I keep getting message that no SD Card found even though the SD card is present and detected by the device.

[Q] Got my Hands on a VIbrant. Now how do I replace its ROM?

Hello everyone.
As the title says I recently got my hands on a Samsung Vibrant. I have it from a friend who just left the apartment we lived in together for 5 months as she didn't need it anymore. It currently has a MIUI ROM on it and I'd like to change it to sada23's unofficial CM 11.0
The problem is however that my only previous experience with flashing ROM was with a Samsung Galaxy Chat when I slapped Jelly Bean on it which was only released in a few countries. So I went right ahead but found the amount of things I have to do overwhelming compared to when I just used ODIN on the old phone.
I'm trying to tell what the current status is of the phone and this is what I've been able to come up with so far. (also after googling what everything is and does lol)
- MIUI present so custom ROM install definitely possible
- When I booted into recovery mode I saw it has: "Semaphore CWM Recovery v6.0.1.9" (which I presume is outdated)
- BY default the MIUI ROM apparently has a superuser app (which lead me to think that the device is rooted), however everytime I try to use an app that requires root I encounter errors.
I just did a backup using the recovery mode with semaphore cause I saw this is usually a first step in all the guides I've read. However from here on out I am completely clueless on what to do because all the guides were so different from eachother and I have a feeling my phone is in a vague situation. (root/not rooted?)
So I was hoping someone here could point me into the right direction and help me get to CM from MIUI. Thank you in advance.
I'll be following this thread.. kinda in a similar situation. Although a bit worse. I had an old vibrant in a drawer from years back in mint condish!.. last thing I did was root and install recovery. Unfortunately I'm a stooge and without thinking threw a 4.4 rom zip on the phone.. booted to recovery and cleaned and tried to flash.. bottom line i'm in a bootloop now... and I gave up when odin wasn't detecting the phone.. I"ll figure that out eventually, but it would be great to just have a 4.4 Odin tar for a quick and painless install... or at least a tar from a 4.0 with root and recovery to make the 4.4 upgrade easy.
Also would be interested in knowing if the 4.4 roms work well.. Gps will be most important to me since I plan to use this as my jogging phone.
alrighty.. let's get this party started!
Edit - I think the best thing for you to do is odin back to stock then root install custom bootloader and then flash your new rom, I've heard that you can go straight to kk from stock but the guy who posted above me has problems because of that so I would try flashing an ICS ROM for the recovery first, and don't forget to make a nandroid backup
You can find all the files and programs you'll ever need here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982728 in NOOB_IN_NEED 'S ref thread
Hope I was of some help if I was hit the thanks button

Computer(s) can't find GS2

Dearest XDA'ers,
Recently I wanted to root my GS2 and get CM 11 (or 10.2) on it. But, my phone has some trouble with connecting to a computer.
There are a couple of things what i've tried to get my phone connected;
Tried 5 different USB-cables;
Tried 5 different computers, including a computer of The Phone House. x32, x64, Windows Vista, XP and 7.
Tried to "delete" the USB hubs
Restart PC and phone a hundred times
Tried to change the phone utilities by typing *#7284# and put the USB to MODEM and back to PDA.
USB-debugging on/off
"Connect storage from PC" (Wireless and network)
After trying all these things i've been to the dealer (The Phone House). There mechanic has looked to the phone and has done some stuff (developer software and all kind of freaky stuff), but the phone is still NOT connecting to any computer.
Is there someone who does know how to fix this problem or how to install CM on the phone without connecting it to a computer and can help me out?
Kind regards,
Lothlann
Does it work now?
What firmware is install atm?
Does odin recognised the phone?
Can you get in to recovery?
What recovery is it?
Can you get in to download mode?

It still doesn't work.
I managed to install the cyanogenmod without using a computer.
That's the most important thing to me, unfortunatelly i've got some new errors:
"Hangouts has stopped"
"The process com.google.process.location has stopped"
"Google Play-services has stopped"
"WhisperPush has stopped"
"The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped"
And as the finishing touch: there is no google play store application on the phone.
Cyanogenmod-version:
11-20140809-NIGHTLY-i9100
Android-version:
4.4.4
Kernel-version:
3.0.64-CMg89e6992
[email protected] #1
Build-number:
cm_i9100-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84Q
GApps installed:
gapps-kk-20140606-signed.zip
Odin does't recognize the phone
I can get into recovery and download mode, recovery: CWM-based recovery v6.0.5.0
Kind regards,
Lothlann
EDIT:
After the fourth time re-installing CM and tried some different GApps it seems the "google-errors" have been fixed.
Only the "connecting to PC" error is still there.
Have you put it into download mode and see it odin recognised the phone or just plugging into pc? To install any custom rom the only thing you need is custom recovery Cwm which you have. Gapps was old so maybe why you had fc.
I ask you an important question now...have you backed up you're efs? Are you new to android/xda. Nandroid back up done? Most important thing to do is back up that efs folder three or four time's to pc/ext sd.

Yes, i've tried the download mode icw Odin. No succes.
For your question if i'm new to xda and everything what has to do with it, i've to answer: yes, i'm new(bie). But luckely i'm not a noob with computers, writing codes and that kind of stuff, so the new information about xda/android is pretty understandable.
Backup from efs folder; done @ cloud and sd card.
For the moment, i'm checking all the cool new stuff coming up with CM and her possibilities to change almost everything you want.
Kind regards,
Lothlann
I mean not insult when asking if you're new as all I'm trying find out is what sort of help you may need. Imo cm is a basic rom. You should check out slim based roms as these are far better than cm but these have no theme engine like cm roms. BUT have a look at lets say Biftor rom 4.4.4 aosp slim based rom. makes cm look pointless. I'm not a big fan of cm or cm based roms. Lol.

Could you teach/tell me more about slim roms? perhaps we can talk further @PM so we stay ontopic q:] :good:

Samsung Galaxy Note3 SM-N9005 Android 5.0 - no recovery

Hi All... help...
I have a Note3 SM-N9005 which is rooted. I have been trying to get CWM installed.
I started by using ROM Manager and this just didnt work at all - the recovery partition stayed stock.
So I downloaded the Samsung Note 3 (International) recovery image (6.0.4.6) (non-touch) from https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager.
I used Cygwin to convert to a .tar file and then flashed to PDA using Odin.
All looked OK and Odin passed the install - however when I tried to reboot into recovery my Note3 just gets stuck in a boot loop - the only way I could get it working again was to re-flash using Odin and when it reboots it starts and works normally - but if I reboot into recovery mode it just keeps re-booting!!
Any thoughts on how to fix this or whether the best option is to flash a whole ROM with CWM already packed? Alternatively - any ideas on where I can get a CWM file which will work on my Note3?
Also - now this has started getting messy, any advice on backing up EFS (just in case )
Thanks in advance
So you reflashed the whole stock firmware via Odin and recovery still isn't working? Very strange. Rom Manager sucks and has for years now. Why didn't you just grab either CWM or TWRP (which I find way better for most phones) from the subforum for your phone here on Xda?

Hi es0tericcha0s
Thanks - TBH I have only just replaced my S4 with the Note3 and just set everything up - so didnt want to reflash with a custom ROM so followed the instructions for installing CWM... and failed I did install TWRP a while ago and couldnt really get on with it - if you think it is better I might reflash the whole phone with a new ROM and give it a go.
I think I did download a CWM img file from here and when I flashed it to PDA the phone wouldnt boot at all - from memory I am sure it came up saying it couldnt boot and enetered "Odin mode"... I will have to back up my important stuff and try again tonight.
Any recommendations on a good ROM to play with? Need a stable product ideally as I dont get much time to play
Thanks
I would just restore the entire phone with the stock firmware file and start fresh. TWRP here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494245 As far as roms, I haven't played with the international Note 3 in awhile, but I typically recommend stock based roms for less potential issues (I personally prefer CM based roms, but I have more time and experience with dealing with possible problems than most). I would take a look at AllianceRom if you want to customize a lot on stock based http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2571255 or Omega http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470441
As always, you should read through some of the stuff other active users are saying about it to make sure it fits your needs, but those development teams support a lot of Samsung devices and usually provide solid updates.

Thanks es0tericcha0s - I downloaded the TWRP tar and flashed to PDA - all worked first time... I will give it a go and see how I get on, when I get more time I will do a clean flash too!
Good deal. Lemme know if you need anything else.
