This kernel will be kept simple and inline with stock and free from buzzfree stuff..as the aim is a stable day-to-day use kernel..this kernel is NOT for those who want to break records..as i do not believe and rely on benchmarks..(its me..)
Disclaimer:
i nor xda would be at fault if something weird beyond my test results happen to your phone..also this is not a benchmark kernel..if you like crunching numbers and breaking records go use another kernel..this is meant to save juice and be efficient and stable as a daily driver for Samsung based ROMS..
Features:
- Based on i9205/i9195 source from Samsung OSRC(Thanks for the borked source)
- Fixed a few things left by Samsung to be broken
- Simple and no fancy stuff thats gonna bork your phones..more stuff does not guarantee it's better..
- User voltage control from faux123 for Krait CPU's..
- EXFat support(by Samsung OSRC..)
- OC(if already stable)
- will populate more as things get stable
- Selinux permission is set from enforcing to permissive via ramdisk
- insecure boot image
- Disabled Rooting security measures implemented by Samsung..
Pre-requisites
- Install busybox via CWM or via Playstore before installing my kernel..this is to make sure init.d and also some scripts work properly..

I was curious how you described these features. If it's only an e book reader issue, you cannot call it remove crappy stuff by samsung.

thanks will invetigate the logs provided..can you upload a stock image of the i9200 btw??so i can check if there are specific differences from the ramdisk of the i9200 from i9205..afaik aside from the LTE there should be other differences from them..
re: root it might have been because of the ramdisk i used..can you shift to Koush's superuser??chainfire's supersu has been finicky with my HTC 4.3 update but Koush's never had a glitch..
Thank you very much for the feedback!!
edit: get the SuperUser by Koush here

Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview for the Fascinate
// It took me a while to get it right, but here it is.
//Camera works, wireless internet works.
Haven't checked sound.
Don't know if phone or SMS works.
Need testers.
//How to install: DO A BACKUP FIRST!
Get the zip here Then get this. Go to recovery, do a wipe/factory reset.
//Flash the first zip, don't reboot yet. Go to Mounts and Storage, mount /data and then format it or it won't work.
//Then flash the second zip and reboot.
//After you reboot, don't do an apt update. It seems to bork things up for me. Using adb on your computer, type 'phablet-flash -d grouper -b' (to update to the latest).
Enjoy.
The above is the old way. Thanks to UnjustifiedDev the new build is below:
"Ubuntu touch
1. Download bootstrap http://goo.im/devs/Unjust/Fascinate/...scinatemtd.zip
2. Download preinstall http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-tou...blet-armhf.zip
yes it is 300+mb make sure you have space on your sdcard for it
3. Download layout fix http://goo.im/devs/Unjust/Fascinate/...layout_fix.zip
4. Reboot to recovery wipe data etc then flash bootstrap file first the cm-10.1 zip then reboot recovery
5. in ubuntu's purple recovery flash the saucy zip takes a while to flash make sure your battery is charged
6. Flash layout fix right after saucy zip completes then reboot
7. Note this a preview not a daily driver it is pretty cool but it lacks full features. Wifi works idk if sound works or data my phone is not in service
Source https://github.com/Ubuntu-Fascinate I did fix the layout no need for an extra zip next build "
You are the man, Unjust!!
Remember, it's just a developer preview at this point. Not much you can do with it right now.

I followed the porting guide. Commented out AriesParts and Samsung-something-or-other in a makefile in /devices. Patched /kernel/samsung/aries/fs/proc/array.c and /kernel/samsung/aries/arch/arm/configs. I did some other other patches to a makefile in /build. I played with it for about a month using just the phablet-armhf.zip. I had it booting for about 15 seconds after a while. I was going through logcats and trying to trace them back to any warnings thrown during compilation.
Then I found out it uses the grouper image. Voila, instant boot. I left the changes in the source, though.

I thought I had it in there.
The reason I post my ROM here is because I'm soon starting with a new rom, broodROM KitKat which will also be available for the Note 3, So I figured why not test it on my current AOSP ROM (to see if there is any trouble on compiling, but no!). This AOSP is based on the real Google AOSP, no real further modifications (only thing is that it includes DeviceSettings from the S4 currently), and AppOps is exposed. that's all.
It includes the stock CM11 kernel (which is kinda crappy). but I don't have the device so cannot make decent kernel myself without testing. Also the ROM is 100% untested. but it compiled without any error with my sources (www.github.com/AOSP-S4-KK) so I think it's alright.
Working List
- You tell me I have no idea :silly:
Download Alpha 1
www.broodplank.net/files/AOSP-442-N9005-Alpha-1.zip
on alpha 01 you need to flash a custom kernel
SEND ME LOGCAT! BECAUSE CURRENTLY IT SEEM TO BOOTLOOP
The device name is listed as hlte in settings / build.prop, don't worry this is actually hltexx
Download Gapps Lite + SuperSU (yes it's not rooted by default, I recommend installing this package)
http://broodplank.net/files/gapps-4.4.2-lite-with-supersu-1.86.zip
Sources
- https://github.com/aosp-s4-kk
Download:
Code:
mkdir ~/AOSP
cd ~/AOSP
repo init -u git://github.com/AOSP-S4-KK/platform_manifest -b kk-4.4
repo sync
Building:
Code:
. build/envsetup.sh
lunch
make otapackage

Lol what the hell, that's almost impossible that my rom triggered download mode XD.
But it could be true, I have no clue since I do not have the device. what you could try is using the boot.img & /system/lib/modules from CM11 nightly.
btw, just downloaded CM11 and noticed there are NO modules in the kernel of hltexx. this means the kernel I added will not boot most likely.
So please install this zip after installing the rom:

Just bootloops with that .zip you added.
I did however change your kernel zip after the bootloop and used - temasek's HLTE custom kernel - I am now on the Android start up screen you have added but it is stuck on there.

Ah I dropped the herp a derp then hahah, Nah reason I thought that was because of the CM kernel used to boot it up. Thanks for correcting :good:

@gianton it'll boot into splash screen with temasek's kernel, if you wanna try and grab an ADB Logcat? - I'm having issues getting one :crying:
Sorry for not providing a good kernel, the thing is I cannot compile it decently with the ROM. it says I have to add module support and recontinue, thing is, the note 3 does not use it. but my build forces it.. Anyone have experience on CM with compiling the kernel? (the kernel is from CM after all)
You could try temasek or Yank555 or wootever for help with kernels as they're pretty decent at them - civato knows his stuff also, however I believe he has only worked with Stock samsung kernels and not CM stuff.
Still cannot get ADB logcat, phone won't recognise in PC
For those power users of you I will be putting builds into the testing folder on Android File Host the conditions of using these are:
You give me feedback
You give me logs
You give me complete and proper steps to reproduce an error
You clean flash these I WILL NOT accept logs for dirty flashes, none, zero, zilch, nada
SELINUX MUST BE ENFORCING
THESE BUILDS MAY/MAY NOT NUKE THE SDCARD AND SO FORTH YOU FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK (generally zero but covering my ass)
I WILL NOT BE HAND HOLDING!
NO GENERAL USER QUESTIONS IN THIS THREAD FOR THOSE GO TO THIS THREAD
I will bump this thread when a new testing is up
EXAMPLE TEMPLATE
Rom date
Bug/issue
Steps to reproduce
Adb log + dmesg/kmsg log
Anything else
DOWNLOAD
Changes that have been done, changed lots of the selinux policies. Device is actually in enforcing mode and no battery hacks.
Let me know if there's any issues with anything.
Logs I want are the following
/data/misc/audit/audit.log <--- adb shell su cp /data/misc/audit/audit.log /sdcard/audit.log
a logcat
and a dmesg
Ok guys, I've uploaded a seperate boot.img to flash with the testing rom.
GPS (device only wifi+data off) outdoors!
Stability of the device
Any other issues. USE THE Template above. Looking forward to the reports.
I won't accept Logs or bugs without the above boot.img being used.
Just flashed rom + the boot. First imp - Apps installing faster and much smoother then before... Will report back after few hours of good usage

Don't worry about that one for the minute the experimental one can wait to be tested.
For those of that want to try the experimental builds, just post here and I'll pm the link. Too many people are downloading the test build without the boot.img >.< I can't trust people with the experimental which has it's own boot.img currently.
So far this ROM is the most snappiest 12.1...
Noticed:
Display on takes time when u get a call..
Very rare lag while u use two or more apps

Once my current build is done, you can test that.
Exp Rom + Boot.
Battery Life Excellent (never used any other rom with such good battery management)
More smoother then before.
More stable (Perfect - no freeze)
Camera + Gallery - snappier
Only issue is apps takes ages to install but not sure if its me only.
Edit: You have done magic

The app issue isn't really an "issue" it's due to the way I've set the rom up now. It will dex everything as they are installed, hence the snappier feel and super long initial boot
It's not as if storage is an issue on the device

Hello everyone, after a great success on building roms for bacon device. I've decided to share my work with other devices. So now I share with hammerhead. After positive feedback on the rom today I'll publish here the rom.
Kernel and Device tree are untouched so everything should be working smoothly. You can use a custom kernel in case you like, but i'll only give support to stock kernel as I do not yet own an device. So CM bugs are basically also our bugs, and from what I know there is none. Still I'm open to suggestions.

Any idea what could be causing the issue? I wonder how the other ROMs along with mini GAPPS work.
I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong; or has TWRP 3 screwed up something?

I guess that for this device either I don't fully odex or use smaller gaaps.

Hi guys,
I really love RR and since my wife still has her Galaxy S8 and since there seems to be no one else who is willing to maintain the latest Resurrection Remix ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S8 for Android Q, I offer you this unofficial version.
-/\-/\-/\-/\-/\-/\-/\-/\-/\-
Note:
By downloading this ROM you take full responsibility of all consequences by your own!
I'm not responsible if you brick your device or do any other damage.

Please don't ask me for support how to flash!

There are three changes I've made:
- The default networkTransitionTimeout is decreased from 60 to 30 seconds.
- The bluetooth icon in the status bar is visible as soon as bluetooth is enabled (and not only if a bluetooth device is connected).
- The battery LED color can be set individually for the range 90 to 99% (so you have <90% charging, 90% to 99% nearly full and 100% full).
Everything else is default RR!

Do you have a screenshot and how is the game performance?
I like to play games and I use hadesrom, it is very fluent and successful, I will test and share this rom. There is volte support on the rom's own page, but this port also works on the rom, has anyone tried it?

Please have a look onto the official page of RR:

I have no idea about the game performance, but I would say this depends only on the kernel you are using. Of course you can also flash other kernels.
Also compiled the ROM for S8+ and N8.
See the link in the starting post for download.
Please note: I don't have a S8+ nor a N8, so I'm not able to test it!

Currently running your build. Thanks you for your work...
I have found two problems. One is s8/+ has a on sceen button. Which we can press to turn to device on. This feature works in all the roms i have use. It even works in recovery. But not working in this device. 2. Pressing Power button+ volume down doesn't take screenshots... My usb port is kind of broken. Thats why i am unable to provide adb logs. But if you suggest any apps that can take good logs using root. Then i can provide logs using that app

Thank you for your feedback.
Said to hear that. On my wife's S8 all this works fine. So this is really strange.
Normally I'm using https://nolanlawson.com/apps/#catlog for the logs.
Maybe you could try another kernel?

Since you are new to s8+ development. Give this rz kernel a try. When all of us were using a10/11 . This was the kernel that every dev would recommend us to use.

Thanks. I tried to compile the ROM with the kernel source from https://github.com/diepquynh/android_kernel_samsung_universal8895.
Unfortunately it seems that this kernel requires a newer version of gcc and to be honest I don't know how to implement this in my build process.
So at the moment the only possibility I see is to flash the kernel manually after flashing the ROM.
Great ROM ... I have been using RR since a long time .... if could you please update the security patch as well as the vendor security patch for dreamlte ... that would be awesome...

Thank you. The security patch level is currently Oct 2022. Maybe I can update to Dec this weekend.
But I have to say: The code base got pretty old in the meantime and so the number of patches which can't be included, because the code is totally different today, increases. So I'm not able to implement all fixes.
And I have absolutely no idea about vendor security patches. Where would I get these?

Tried it now by my own.
RZ kernel doesn't work at all for me.
RAD kernel didn't show any improvement concerning the problem with the screen wakeup.
So it seems to be something related to the ROM itself. But I have no idea..
This ROM has the same base I'm using for my S9 and there it works without problems.
At the moment I'm not sure if it makes sense to develop this any further.
With the latest release I have problems with Magisk, which didn't reinstalled automatically and also Google Apps had some problems without reinstalling. Strange.....

I repaired the broken wakeup button. Reason was the missing sec_touchscreen.kl in /system/usr/keylayout which maps the touch key to KEY_WAKUEP.
Download: https://freeze.ws/RR
I've fixed the problem that Magisk, OpenGapps and so on were not reinstalled automatically after dirty flash.
If you installed the apps properly (for Magisk patching the boot img is not enough, you have to do another direct install from the App!), the reinstallation should work now automatically if you are dirty flashing a new version.
