Hey guys, I asked over in the Greenify thread but they sent me here.
I would have liked to Greenify Facebook Messenger and still get push notifications, but I use ART so I can't install XPosed, which is required for that functionality.
I asked if there was any way to accomplish this and someone said:
You might be able to use autoruns or autorun manager and try to cut off its receivers, I am not really sure if those would be effective wrt FB, but one can try,

Hello, I am trying to stop all the running services I do not need but after killing some off them they re-run. Thing is I don't need them and I can't figure out why these are running. Here's the list:
1) DRM content(what is this?)
2) Voice commands
3) Social Hub
4) Google services
5) Maps
6) Email
All these run without me openning any application.
I would like to know which I can get rid off, so please let me know.

well i have gotten rid off most of the samsung apps using titanium backup. i would get rid of google services as that is essential for the for phone as core apps run using google android like the market and contact syns etc u can get rid of 2,3, & 6 on your list for definate without any problems. i im not sur what drm content is but i think it may have somat to do with copyright content management =/

I don't mind having them installed. All I want is to stop the services from running, since they are useless.
I can't see why there is a Maps service running although I am not using maps or location settings/gps.
Same for email/social hub etc.

If you think that service/app is not useful but you do not wanna uninstall you can always freeze them using Titanium backup Pro. I do that all the time.

Not without root. You need root access to write or otherwise modify files in the /system folder, which is where apps live.

I have been looking for WEEKS trying to find an answer to this,and no answer given on any forums are what I am looking for.
I have an android phone (sidekick 4g) and there are apps that run in the background when not necessary. Now I know some stuff need to be aways running for the phone to function. But I also know that apps like Facebook, Market, Gmail, T-mobile's Media Store, MyYearBook, Maps, Aptoide, etc don't. When I force close them, they just start up a few seconds later. I've tried task killers and got the same result. I've read the "Why you shouldn't use a task killer" articles but everyone keeps saying different things about it so I'm confused.
Like many others, I want my battery to last at least half way through the day. The above mentioned apps (and some others) DRAIN THE BATTERY WHEN RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND WHEN I DON'T WANT THEM TO.
Please does anyone know of a way to fix this?
My phone is rooted, if that matters.
Also, "freezing" the apps don't help cause then I can't use them when I actually want to.

Applications running, doesn't mean cpu cycles are being used. Sitting in memory is no different then a song sitting on your sdcard. Your issue with the battery has to do with processes using cpu cycles. If you have applications that update, force updates manually.
Just having apps in memory isn't your issue.
Use the features built into the os, find out what apps are causing the problem. Look at the settings. If you have looked at your settings, then you have one of three choices. Open bugreports with the application developers, don't install the apps causing problems, or upgrade your phone.

I would think those apps would use battery because it pushes notifications for the app (like new messages and stuff). Does that not use battery?

It does use battery because to process the notification it needs to use the cpu. If you force applications to update manually. Your batter would be better. Check into battery saving tuts. All that information has already been discussed plenty. Won't change in this scenario either.
The more apps you have updating information the more data and notifications are being processed.

Also, I have another problem, if you know anything about this kinda stuff. The Facebook app icon just (like 10 minutes ago) disappeared from my home screen, and it's not in the app drawer either. I uninstalled and reinstalled and still having the problem. I can only open it by manually searching "facebook" in the google search widget and that's when it gives me the option to open the app. It's really bizzare and I have no idea what's going on.

Sounds like a issue with the rom or launcher. Try installing another launcher from the market and see if the application is installed. If its there with another launcher then its your stock launcher, if its not then its the rom.

Hi all, I'm considering on buying the donation package of Greenify to try out the GCM Push notifications on hibernated apps but I´m not sure about it so can you please guys tell me if it's works properly and if it has any impact on the battery life?
Also, I would like to ask about the feature called "Shallow Hibernation" because I don't know what's exactly it does and the description doesn't tells much for me.

GCM Push notifications will work OK if the apps pushing notifications are developed keeping in mind Google's recommendations. Further for apps not using GCM viz. Facebook and WhatsApp etc it will have no effect.
On shallow hibernation: Till now, if you restart a hibernated app, it will have to start from the beginning and not from the background (like from 'recents'). This will consume more battery and that is why the Dev advised not to hibernate frequently used apps.
Now in shallow hibernation, the app will be kept in memory but it will not be allowed to function in the background (like syncing etc). When this app is opened again, it will start as if from 'recents' and not from the beginning. This will save more battery. This is my understanding but I don't know if I am 100% correct.

I'm trying to get my head around what Huawei have done with the "Launch" functionality. My naive understanding is that it's huawei's own attempt at greenify. Killing apps that are not being used... somewhat intelligently.
I'm wondering if this actually has any impact on battery at all, it certainly stops processes from launching and running.. notifications being missed etc.
Anyone have any ideas what this is actually doing, or if the setting is actually beneficial? I thought google was against this sort of practice when doze is their solution.
Secondly, the following apps are allowed to ignore battery optimisation out of the box:
Backup
Camera
com.huawei.hiviewtunnel
Email
Google Play Services
Google Services Framework
Health
HwLBSService
Screen recording
System update
Any one know if it is advisable to set these to don't allow ignoring of battery optimisations?

I'm wondering the same thing.
Are you sure that we can allow none of them app ?
I'm not allowing any apps that need to stay running (in the background) like Garmin Connect, Ad blocker, virus scanner and some more to avoid Huawei killing them. I see no difference in battery consumption.

With the new Facebook update they've now got tracking of your off Facebook activity. Its in your settings and it's called, Off Facebook Activity.
Don't believe me? Check, it's deffinatelly there now in latest update.
I know can turn it off but them being able to see my other apps and to see what I do on there just annoys me.
Is there any way that I can prevent them from seeing my apps.
Also some things I've googled have ended up getting my email address as got emails about what I searched.

I've uninstalled it for now, didn't need titanium though.
Can use Facebook via a browser instead.

I did disable all Facebook permissions but still had my off of Facebook apps information. Who knows if other apps are doing the same thing, I block all unneeded permissions in all my apps and keep them frozen until I need to use them. Thanks for your reply.
