So heres the problem. I've been waiting ages for a good phone that can play videos on the go, but after finding out that my HTC hero (GSM) only supports 2.1 android and cant run iPlayer, i thought i might as well try to install it myself. And thats when it all went wrong. I got UniversalAndroot 2.2 and now my phone just freezes on an "android" logo which was never even there before. What can i do? The only thing i can do is hold down the power and volume down buttons and get into a white screen with two options. Help please....
isnt it home and power button to go to recovry?
Have you wiped your phone data in your recovery image if not wipe your phone data/factory reset in your recovery image and also wipe your cache
It's fine guys, I managed to get into recovery, thanks for your help!
Ok, So I've recently updated to stock gingerbread 2.3.3 with baseband .35. I rooted my phone with the SuperOneClick method. Root was successful (Finally).
I then wanted to install a custom ROM, so I installed ClockworkMod's ROM manager, flashed the clockwork recovery image and everything. I decided to make a backup image in case I didn't like the new ROM. I then selected the "Backup Current ROM" option, and left my phone to it's own devices. When I got back about 5 minutes later, I find that I have a hard reset on my hands :| To add to that, I don't even have a backup image!
I tried doing that a couple times more, once, I even held the POWER+VOL.DOWN+HOME combo and all. The same thing happened each time. The recovery backdrop and a sliding progress appeared, after about 4 seconds, the progress bar stopped moving, it shifted back to the LG boot logo. If I kept the combo pressed, it would go on and on for about 5 times, if I released it, it would just continue on to the boot and I would get another hard reset every time. I tried "Reboot into Recovery". Same thing. Once, I selected "Install ROM from SD card", with the backup option selected. Somehow or the other, due to the combo or something, I came to a screen that had four options.
1) Reboot
2) Install from SD card:update.zip
3) Wipe data
4) Wipe dalvik cache and cache
I was able to scroll up and down with the volume rocker, but the only other button that worked was the Home button, which toggled between the screen I mentioned above and a screen where all of the text was removed and there was just the recovery background. I finally popped out the battery and booted, and got yet ANOTHER hard reset.
HELP!
It seems Clockworkmod recovery was not flashed correctly. What you see is the stock android recovery. The recovery key mapping is:
volume rocker-up/down
menu (left most button)- select current option
back - go back
the behaviour you see when pressing the home button is normal.
After using Rom manager to install CWM recovery, it is not recommended to do further operations through rom manager, best uninstall it. Instead, boot into recovery using the three button combo and do operations from there.
I would suggest try again to re-flash CWM recovery.

Thanks, but do you have any idea WHY using ROM manager is a bad idea? Just curious.

Well, one reason I've encountered is that while flashing cwm recovery, if the download fails for some reason, Rom mananger has flashed the incorrectly downloaded file without verification resulting in a fastboot semi-brick for many users.
Another reason is related to the way it operates the recovery. I'm not very sure about this point, but I've seen many people having problems with backups and flashing.
Thanks, you were brilliant. I flashed another recovery from ClockworkMod, this time with a WiFi connection, and everything worked great.

I recently got a secondhand Verizon Motorola Droid Razr XT912, intending to unlock it and use it with my t-mobile account. Coming from iPhone, I've never used android before so i took a few weeks to grow accustomed to the stock OS before rooting it. I learned it, and eventually, although it took several days, I also rooted it.
But today, when I attempt to boot the device, i see this glowing X logo, which my friend thinks might be the nexus logo (bootloader?), forever.
Never goes anywhere, just stays on X. I can only reboot it by holding power+volume down which makes it again boot to the X. I'm not sure if this is considered a boot loop - seeing as it doesn't actually loop, just hangs endlessly. It seems my only way of shutting the device off (power button does nothing) is to enter the boot selection menu (Vol up+down at startup) and choose the "AP fastboot" option and in that mode i can power down with a tap of the power button. all the other options bring me to the X, except recovery, an ill-android-logo-with-exclamation-point.
How did I get to this point? I tried to flash a ROM to replace the stock Motorola Android - trying first AOKP: First I backed up using myBackup, then I chose the link for "spyder" at the download list and followed a guide telling me to download this app and I did, but a different guide told me I would need CWM so i got that too. I didn't know how to add anything from within the app so i reboot to get too the boot menu, and chose the AOKP zip file - which worked for a bit but proceeded no further after "Booting...". I tried several times and messed around with the menu but I thought maybe I needed CWM so I chose that zip and it didn't work either.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? It sure seem like I bricked it. I discovered Recovery Mode has a hidden menu when you press the volume buttons, but choosing "install update from external storage (SD card)" then it fails as in valid for every zip I have tried. I thought maybe it needed to be signed or official so i downloaded what i found to be the stock update Blur_Version.6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip and that was accepted but eventually failed as well. The factory reset option there does nothing. I tried using the Fastboot method as well but it never finishes without stopping, on 6/18 or 2/18 or anything for a different reason each time.
What haven't I tried?
My device details: SGS3 T999, rooted, running Jellybean 4.3 on a liquid smooth ROM. Its a year old and has been a solid performer up until now.
My device is stuck in a cycle where it gives a quick vibrate, then SGS3 splash screen with white letters, then black screen, then tiny blue "Recovery booting..." words in upper left of screen, then black screen with couple vibrations, and around and around it goes in the same repeating cycle.
Just before it started I had taken the following actions: Dumped the following 2 files onto my EXTSD card (cm-11-20131217-NIGHTLY-d2tmo.zip, gapps-kk-20131119.zip) from my PC, booted phone into recovery mode using TWRP, did a factory reset wipe (success), cache wipe (success), dalvik cache wipe (success), flashed the NIGHTLY file (failed), flashed the gapps file (failed). At this point I should have sought some support. Fool! I next did a reboot step still in recovery mode. Without the reboot happening a message came up stating Superuser permission had been broken (the best I can remember) and the option to have TWRP repair the permission. I opted "yes" to repair. Then the loop started that I can't escape.
I have pulled the battery multiple times, tried a regular boot up, tried a recovery boot up (up volume+power+home) dropping the home button after a few seconds. Nothing is working. Prior to the above steps I backed up everything on the device. So I have backups to use if it can be done. My best guess is that I failed to update my CyanogenMod or TWRP to the very latest versions and it caused this hang up. Otherwise, I don't know what to do and need any help I can get.
Has anyone had this issue or heard of anyone who has and have any helpful suggestions, tips, ideas, etc..?
Thank you in advance. This is my first XDA post. Please forgive and offer tips if this thread needs any scrubbing.
I've had a few similar events for a few different reasons.
I would suggest booting into recovery but it seems you have tried that already.
If the device is plugged into a wall or pc, unplugg it, that has seemed to cause and fix boot issues for me before.
Other than that, I dunno, if you can't get to recovery or fastboot, I dunno...
Help! As a noob to all this jargon I hope someone can help with the basics. I recently tried a hard recovery (power & vol+) as my phone locked on the htc logo on every power up. The battery is now drained and next to impossible to charge. I got a little juice into it and tried a factory reset bad move. Now I get the red triangle and exclamation mark. . how can i fix this problem?
Do you have twrp kk recovery installed? If so, you could try to flash the insert coin Rom provided by whooper. Just download it, put it on an sd card, put sd card in your phone. Click install in recovery find the zip file and flash. Aroma interface kicks in and it's all self explanatory there after
