[Q] Cant access /efs to enable lockscreen and power options

I know that there are lots of forums but NONE of them answer this question, and i have spent the last week checking so i did my best. I have a SGS2 gt-i9100T with voda australia, if its relevant, and i have upgraded to XXLPQ ICS and it is rooted so i get CWM, and i have come across no lockscreen or power options. I had the same problem with the other versions of ICS but none with gingerbread. So initially i thought that i had to get into /efs/imei and change keystr to make it work. The problem is, no matter which root explorer i use when i get to the folder /efs i cannot open it. it just stays in the main / folder. I have tried to use a terminal to edit the file but it says that i dont have the permissions to do so and that it cant. i have backed up the folder using HC-K and it says that it was successful. Please someone who can help me as it is driving me nuts not being able to use ICS as it doesnt work. i also cant copy /efs as when i hold press on it and ask for info, it says that it has no files in it and no folders. and when i try to copy it, it says that nothing was copied as there was nothing TO copy.
So yeah, any help would be massively appreciated to all
so you're saying that backup was successful, why don't you make 2 backups, edit one of them to your need and restore it ? it should work.. and of course, don't forget to keep that 2nd original backup
I would except that the backup files/folders are not the ones that go in the /efs normaly. there is 2 files made from the backup, one called efs and it is a disc image file. and the other efs.tar. hang on, that tar file i may be able to edit. il get back to you on that thanks

you can edit that TAR with WinRAR for example
No luck, when i edited the file oddly it made it 0.7kb smaller, even though i added a file. and that .tar is a .tar.gz
Can you reboot in download mode?

i can although thats not what i want to do...
i have official firmware already from checkfus, its just this editing business thats has me confused.
the older firmware doesnt help when i need the /efs for ICS
also winrar says it can only add files to a rar or zip archive, so i cant edit the current .tar
try any other packing app, google is always here for you "how to edit .tar"
Yeah i used one of them, peazip and i thought i replicated the file perfectly and everything but its not working still, maybe i am lacking other files from /efs aside from the keystr one.

You're probably missing your /efs/imei/keystr file. Create this file containing "ON". You'll need root to do it.

First, do you have root?
If so, use a file explorer, like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer, go to the /efs/imei folder, create a new file called keystr, edit it to contain the word ON.

Galaxy S3 Lock, unlock and Screen selection Sounds

Requires Root access
Those who like the lock, unlock and screen selection sound of s3 can use this..
Download the zip file extract the files from it.
using software like root explorer copy the files from the folder in which they are saved to system/media/audio/ui replacing the old files and change their permissions to rw-r-r reboot enjoy
Or use the flashable zip and flash it using CWM...

I can't modify anything in the UI folder. When I try to replace or delete or copy old files out or new files in it still says EROFS (Read-only file system)
I am rooted tried both Astro and ES Explorer. Thanks
If your rooted, in root explorer you'll see the option in top right corner to change from read only.

For ES File Explorer - Press Menu button, Settings, scroll down and tick "Mount File System" (mount /system as writable) option. Then you can edit the /system folder.

before you lose all hope,
try and recover using Recuva. Plug in your phone to the PC and then point the program to search in the phone drive. If you are lucky, that deleted memory space is not overwritten and you will be able to recover the file All the best :good:

File encrypted! How can I open it!! HELP!!

I MADE THIS THREAD A FEW MONTHS AGO, DIDN'T GET THE ANSWER!! PLEASE HELP!
So, my brother backed up my Samsung Galaxy S4 on his laptop about 3 years ago. Can't remember the program used. He gave me the backup file recently. It's a .bak file which is 1.4GB.
(I screenshotted the file name and attached it here titled " FILE BACKUP TITLE.PNG")
I edited the file, to a .exe. (eg “Samsung SM-G350E_20191001_103009.bak” delete the bak and write exe after the dot and press enter.) That way I can access everything through winrar. However all of the files are encrypted! We have no idea what the password is, what shall I do! (Attached the "enter password" screen in winrar titled " RAR.PNG")
It has 1000's of photos from 2014-2017, I have no idea on what to do. I've checked out brute forcing, but I wasn't sure how to do it.
Thanks.
Here is two passwords mentioned that you could try... or use as base...

Try to convert the password protected .RAR-file into a .ZIP-file which you then can easily open without any password protected.

I'm not sure how to do that. Everytime I click on the file, it forces me to enter a password.
Are you sure that would work? It's not a rar file though. It's an application now, because I renamed it from .bak to .exe.
Thanks!!
(Attached screenshot of the standard file (the BAK file), then the edited one which opens through winrar (the application). Won't upload for some reason, (in the original post).
So basically, the file is a ".BAK" file, then same file was renamed to be an "application" file.

Try some hex editor to see its first few bytes. HxD is good...
Probably not a rar (Rar!), nor an exe (MZ), more likely a zip (PK).

Okay, it's a zip. If older encryption is used then one known file could be used to decrypt it. Was it Advanced something that had that option??
Did that Wondershare Tunesgo ring any bell??
One could try use it again, mayby an old version and see if the files saved are in same order, etc...

It was advanced password recoveries from elcomsoft, but there are free tools for this known plaintext attack too. https://www.google.com/search?q=known+plaintext+attack+zip
Quite many variables that must match for it to work, but then again, only 12 known bytes is enough, of which at least 8 bytes need to be continuous, so only part of the known plaintext file is needed...
To see if it's even possible open it with 7-zip and see the encryption method.
It should be "zipcrypto deflate/store". Maybe also rar shows it....
If it looks like wondershare file, then using that password (that didn't work) as base could work. At least it would not take much time check numbers from 0-10000+++.
