[Q] Wireless Tether for Root Users - HTC Rezound

https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Does anyone know how to set up this app for use on the Rezound? Just setting "HTC Rezound" under the Device Profile does not work. I like the options it has over the built in tethering. Or is there another similar app that has access control on top of the passphrase/encryption? I know there are many tether apps out there but I am not eager to just start going through them one by one.
If it matters, I am running Neo's CM11. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535777

Doesn't CM have built in native tethering?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

Yes it does. Please notice where I said "I like the options it has over the built in tethering". I am looking for specific device access control on top of the password setup.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

Try these settings:
Setup Method-NetD(master)
WiFi Driver Reload-Checked
Enable Routing Fix-Checked
Sent from my HTC Rezound using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

No dice. The wifi doesn't show up for other devices.

Wired tether

I've searched a bit and can't find an answer: is there a simple way to get the aosp wired tether feature working without flashing a new rom? The apk would be appreciated if anyone has it

Is the aosp version different then what's built into sense?

I liked the native version on cm7----wireless doesn't interest me

If you go to settings> wireless & networks, there is a usb tethering option. It's built into Sense already.

I've tried that out---it lets you use it 1-2 and then tells me my plan doesn't include tethering...did I miss something or should I try it again?

Won't work without paying for that. Sprint charges like 30 a month.

that's what I had thought. I saw a script in the dev section for wireless, but read that it had wakelock issues. oh well, I can use pdanet for now

The wireless works fine over 4g without running that script. I've had no wake lock issues. Are you in a 4G area?
Also, one of the current roms said to have the wired and wireless tether unlocked. I'll peek around and see if I can find which one it was.
EDIT: Here it is, it's MikRoms. See the first thing in the Changelog
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16162718&postcount=1
Change Log:
v0.9:
Hotspot hack with usb tether working also
Reboot menu
3D Homescreen Display setting
Browser settings unlocked
Browser tabs unlimited
Native Sceenshot (power and home buttons)
Mms no compression and max mms 5mb (default)
Added hidden quicksettings
Removed GPS icon when not in use
Removed usb debugging icon
All bloatware removable in settings menu
Probably a few more things that we forgot.
Oh wow thanks! I am unsure how to get that working without flashing the Rom. Would I just crack open the Rom and pull an apk or is there another way to do it?

I honestly have no idea how you would do that. I know that if you wanted the hotspot, you could just pull the hacked hotspot apk out of the rom and roll with that....but I don't think that wired usb is tied into that app, and I'm not sure what hits that. My suggestion would be to flash the rom, and see how it goes. I've never had anything but good experience with any of aamikams roms.
OK thanks for the help----on phone now so ill click thanks later

Eternety rom Wi-Fi teathr

I just switched from dad bamf 4.9 to eternity 8-4 on my HTC Thunderbolt. When I try the Wi-Fi hotspots it shows the network is connected, but won't connect to the internet. Is this a known bug that has a fix, or do I have to keep switching roms to use the hotspots?
Also, is there an over locking app to boost the processor?
Thank-you
Kyle

What are your wifi hot spot settings currently? If you're restoring the settings from tibu that could be why it doesn't work. You may try updating the app.

You mean like the security settings in the hotspot app? The security, user name, and PW are all the same as before I loaded the new rom. My kindle fire shows that it's connected to the hotspot, I'm just not getting any internet signal. How would I update the app?
Thank you
Kyle

Edit: Ok So I downloaded an app called WiFi Tether v3.2 from
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
there's other versions, but I got the newest. It opens and says it's operational, but on my Kindle, it just keeps saying "obtaining IP address" and won't connect... I have the credentials the same as they were in the stock hotspot app.
You probably need to change the device profile. I don't know whet the kindle uses but try setting it to Google nexus one. Also make sure routing fix is checked

I set the device profile to "Thunderbolt (CDMA/LTE)," changed the channel to 10, and clicked the "Routing Fix" radio button. It's working! However, it will stop working after a while, then I have to reboot my phone to get it to start again. Thank you so much for your Help, disconnecktie.
Are you currently using the Eternity InfectedROM? If you are using it, or are pretty familiar with the ROM, I have a couple more general questions about it.
Thanks Again.
I ran it for about 2 months. I prefer the r248 build over the newer ones. What's the question? Oh and make sure you change your wifi sleep policy to never and that might help with the connection issues you're having.

You need to be more descriptive. What tethering app were you using? If it is wifi tether what were your settings?

If you're in public make sure to use a security method and check access control so other people can't jump on your tether. If you enable access control you have to allow the connection either by selecting it in the pull down or from the menu of the tether.

[Q] unable to get wifi tether to work

I'm running the viper rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124391
I've tried using 4 different tether apps including foxfi, the spring hotspot and wifi tether 3.2 pre2
None of them work. At worst the wifi connection doesn't even show up in the list of wifi networks. At best it starts to connect and if i have no encryption, says it's obtaining an IP address and never gets past that (the app shows a connected device at this point) or if i have encryption enabled, it doesn't get past authenticating.
I also saw a post about editing the build.prob to have ro.ril.transmitpower = true - tried doing that as well to no effect.
In the wifi tether app i tried using the two generic ics profiles. I tried it with mms clamping and route fix on and off - no good.
Can anyone please offer me some suggestions on how to fix this or at least narrow down what the issue is?
Thanks
Try this version

Thanks - where is this from originally? Sorry - just being a little paranoid - like to know what i'm installing
oh well - no luck. tried running this one under a couple of the available device profiles, including both generic ics profiles and auto - it wont even show up under the list of available networks no matter which profile i select.

I had the same problem but all you have to do is turn off access control and it should work.:fingers-crossed:

access control was off - even if it was on it should give me a prompt to accept the connection or not.
I had to do a full wipe of my phone and reinstall the rom - i wish i knew what it was that messed it up so i can avoid doing it again.

Wifi

Is there a tweak or setting to pull WiFi in better ? Asking because I'm able to connect nook tablet via free city WiFi, but fassy says "not in range". Just curious.

Ive run various ROM using two different Fassies. It has been my experience that it has the crappiest GPS and Wifi. But wifi seems to work the best when I used AOKP. Something else you could try as well that helped me was an app called InSIDer. Using the stock wifi listing itwould only show about 3 active. But when using the InSIDer wifi scanner or Wigle it would show about 10. I would give one of those a try.
