Hi for my xperia x10 I can't receive or send picture mail. I used to be able to get them and I'm not too sure how to fix this; and wifi isn't part of the problem. When I got to send picture mail it would just hit up edge/gsm/etc.
My apn is set up correctly; so I don't know what's going on. It just switched all of a sudden:

You need to have your APN set up if you haven't. Mainly the MMS part. Also you may need to enable data in order for it to work, unless your ROM has an option to allow MMS with data off.
I have mine set off already.

It used to work without me enabling data. >__>

I had the same problem before and what I did was download the apn settings using the SE settings download.

Since the beginning of time...there have been many APN configurations that work. But some claim that the addition of certain entries into the "APN Type" field are a necessity, or that they improve performance.
After searching, and viewing the support documentation for the AT&T Galaxy Note, I can find no definitive answers...nor does it seem that these additional entries improve performance....so-- if these entries don't improve peformance, are they dead weight? What do they do? If anyone can point to any external resources, or for that matter, they can explain what the different flags mean, it'd be extremely enlightening.
Lets start with the default settings:

A Secure User Plane Location specific Mobile data connection. This connection may be the same as {TYPE_MOBILE} but it may be different. This is used by applications needing to talk to the carrier’s Secure User Plane Location servers for help locating the device
How does the config on the phone get chosen?
When an application wishes to talk to the “network” it sets the APN type when it requests ConnectivityManager. ConnectivityManager then checks if you have an “APN type” set that matches. So for instance if the “APN type” it checks is MMS it will scan you configuration setting for a match and use say testra.mms APN. It will then use this configuration for the network connection. What you use for the APN name does not matter.
So now the connected to the network with say telstra.mms which is the APN that you configured.

Those settings for ATT are very different from the "classic" wap.cingular
Did you notice any particular benefit to use those?
Does it work with the "old" one?

I remember using similar settings for my APN profile on my Motorola flip phone probably nearing a decade ago for gprs.

Hipri is a device flag. This tells the device to use this APN profile over others. That's why some APN profiles don't stick.

As a newcomer to Android I am attempting to investigate certain of the APN Type settings on searching the Internet have
yet to find a definitive answer but gave tested some settings on a Motoluxe on O2 and have determined that I had to set it to
'default,dun' to successfully use Tethering both USB and WIFI prior to setting this it did not function. Any ideas?

What does Android do when it looks for APN settings, but only finds one without any APN type? Does it use that? For what?
So is an empty APN type the same as default or default,supl,mms?

APN Type is a field where you can tell your device to treat the profile differently than the other profiles....for instance, if you have the "default" flag in it, if you manually choose to use another APN setting and there are connection issues, or it fails, your phone will fall back to the one marked "default". A "hipri" flag might mark a profile as "high priority"--the profile of choice when choosing between multiple APN profiles.
I don't remember what flags mean what, but they're easy to find. If I remember correctly, none of them affect performance...they're there simply to priority, and alter the treatment of these connection methods by your device.

Why did you write that? It does not answer my question.
Can someone tell me how to add an APN to the official list? I'm working for a MVNO and we would like to have our APN embedded into Android so that next time our users Powerup a device they can get the APN settings automatically.
Does anyone know what is the procedure to submit to Android a new APN for data connectivity?

Here is an interesting development... I flashed CyanogenMod 10 on my Sony Xperia arc S phone and the ROM downloaded some settings by itself. There are 3 APNs that comes with this ROM.
1. ATT
2. ATT LTE
3. StraightTalk ATT
StraightTalk was picked by default. I was about to delete them all and enter the settings from here but then I received a text message from a friend... Lo and behold, it was a MMS message with a pic attached and already downloaded. I saw that my WiFi was on, so I turned off the WiFi and asked my friend to send me more pics... They all arrived including a video snippet.... Then I sent one, a larger pic, and he received it. All amazed I fired up the CM10's browser and went to www.testmy.net Did a smarttest and my download was 3.4 Mbps and upload was 577 Kbps... In Phoenix, AZ...
Here are the settings that came with CM10 ...
Name: StraightTalk ATT
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: Not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com

That's the settings I use for straight talk, works great. I get 4g just about everywhere here in pa. Mms works great too. I've had straight talk for a year and a half on at&t. Can't complain. If you use alot of cell data they will throttle you slow, but I'm usually close to wifi. I've heard 2GB then they slow you down.

I'm getting 1.3Mbps down and 657 Kbps up. Pretty happy with it.
To the last poster, I thought Straight Talk didn't offer LTE coverage?! If it did, it'd be an even more amazing deal than I had thought it was!

Pantech Pocket ATT - Straight Talk MMS Settings
The Pantech Pocket needs to have the Straight Talk APN data loaded to TWO locations.
Both Phone APN and Wap APN need to be setup with the Straight Talk APN settings.
Straight Talk makes it sound like you only need to enter the information in one location.
You need to enter the information in Phone APN and Wap APN, if you want MMS to work!

My Pantech Pocket is running flawlessly on Straight Talk now. MMS is 100% functional. The pictures are getting through. I'm getting 5Mbps download speed and 1Mbps upload speed.
My Pantech burst uses only one apn. On gingerbread and ice cream sandwich. I don't run proxy but the rest of the settings I put in and works good. Seems faster tried it. 40kbps proxy vs 4000kbps no proxy. Not sure why. Any ideas?

The settings provided are the first ones I have used and successfully got both data and mms working with only one APN.
Using Samsung Galaxy S III.
1. My phone is unocked and compatible on both AT&T networks and T-Mobile right now i am using an blue AT&T sim and i am thinking to make the move to T-Mobile network. Do you think i can use the same AT&T compatible sim and just change the APN setting to T-Mobile and have it work on the T-Mobile network or so i have to buy a sim?
2. I heard that you can get a free sim by buying a free phone and just using it on your phone but other people say that those sims are lock to those phones. Which is true?
3. I see that Straight talk sells cheap GSM phones and my GF has her phone on T-Mobile so can i buy one of the ST phones and swap it to use on T-Mobile or are the locked and can they be unlocked?
I just switched from the default straight talk apn to the ones bushmaster posted. I went from 1 mbps to 4.8 on a Nexus 4.

hey, so i been messing around a bit with everything and i think i found one that is faster: for
username: [email protected]
password: CINGULAR1
apn type: default,supl,mms,hipri
all others are the same i just added these and i feel (maybe placebo effect) its faster like almost 1.5mb.
the username n password i got from the att apn and hipri i guess means high priorty connection. need conformation tho works with n4

Hey gang, I've looked far-and-wide and haven't been able to locate a solution so, I throw myself on y'all's mercy and ask if anyone has a clue why I can't receive wireless data on my SGT AT&T GT-P1000.
I received my AT&T Straight Talk SIM the other day and porting the phone over was no issue. However, when I set up the APN I did not immediately reboot the phone due to some confusion about when the service actually transferred. Could this have affected my registration on the ST wireless network?
I've entered the APN settings precisely but, alas, still cannot connect to the wireless data. I really want to move over to ST, not only will it save me $30 a month whilst adding an "unlimited" data plan but, best of all, I'll get to tell AT&T to go pound sand.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does anybody now any way to unthrotte. Since we all now that ST throttle after 5gb. I called to ST customers service, they told me that unlimited data is only for navigation.

So I got my XZU on Friday. Bought a Petro Canada Mobility sim, cut and inserted it, and I am able to call and text without problems. Issues arise when I want to use mobile data. I filled out the APN info as the Petro Canada site said (located here at 5.f) and that didn't work. I googled around and tried various other ones, which also didn't work.
I called Petro Canada, I called Sony, and they each say to call the other and that everything is working with their respective equipment.
I don't know what else to do, I don't know if I'm missing something in my settings, and I hope you guys can help.
The 2 settings configurations I tried/keep trying are:
(1)

Proxy: 10.128.1.69
Port: 80
Username: wapuser1
Password: wap
(everything else not set/default)
(2)

Just to be sure, since Petro Canada is using another network: you have got Data Roaming enabled in the settings?
I'm using a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) myself, and when I disable Data Roaming, I can't get a mobile internet connection either. But then again, if that were the issue, the phone should give you a notification.
I remember having internet connection problems with my previous phone, and I solved them by simply leaving the proxy settings blank (server address and port number). Maybe you could give that a try?

I was gonna mention that about proxies also, it's unusual for an operator to use a proxy locally isn't it? Definitely worth a go to leave it out.

I'm using a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) myself, and when I disable Data Roaming, I can't get a mobile internet connection either. But then again, if that were the issue, the phone should give you a notification.
I remember having internet connection problems with my previous phone, and I solved them by simply leaving the proxy settings blank (server address and port number). Maybe you could give that a try?

I had data roaming disabled. Changed it to National roaming. Doesn't work, removed proxy and port, still no luck.
I don't think there is anything like this for the Moto X on here or I didn't see it.
The goal is to increase you mobile data speeds.
*Disclaimer*
I don't take responsibility for anyone ruining there data settings or if you speeds are so fast you start having addictions and run up your bill.
First, lets explain what the APN is. It is the Access Point Name. Its function is basically a gateway between your phone, the carrier, and the inter web.
There are a few ways to accomplish this. One is adding the APN in your settings, but I had(and read other people too) where the stock ATT APN overrides the one you create.
Option 1) Adding a APN in Settings.
Go to Settings>Under Wireless & Networks click More>Mobile Network>Access Point Names>Click the Plus
Some info on these settings. If there is nothing in the field below, leave blank. Also if the MMS Port set as 80 causes issues, then use 8080.
The Bearer settings will be a hit or miss if it helps you. eHRPD is for CDMA and is just a software tweak used by verizon to help hand off between CDMA and LTE a few years ago. Sprint users may benefit from this since they are rolling out there LTE.

Click on the menu and save. Click the radio button to select the APN, Reboot your phone, and check the APN to see if it is still checked. If it isn't then use option 2.
Option 2) Removing the APN's and creating one
You will need Root for this to work. 4.4 changed some write settings for 3rd party apps. They have to be installed in the system/priv-app/ folder for this to work.
Either google for APN Backup & Restore or install it from the Play Store

Step 1) Setup APN App
Option A: If you downloaded the APK.
Then using a file explorer move the apk to system/priv-app/ and install it.
Option B: If you installed it from the Playstore.
Go to Data/App/ and find com.riteshsahu.APN.apk and copy it to your sdcard.
Next using whatever you use to unstall apps, uninstall the APN app.
Then move the apk from the sdcard to system/priv-app/ and install.
I set the permissions to rwx r-x r-x.
Step 2) Backing Up & Deleting Current APNs
Open the app and click the menu button.
The last option is to disable the ICS Check.
Now click on the first options, Backup APNs. A pop up will come up to save the file. Press ok.
If you get a error about the app can't write to the APN settings, then the apk is not installed properly.
Click on the Delete APNs button
A popup will appear warning about deleting them, click ok
Until you reenter a new APN, you will not have Data, SMS, MMS service
Step 3) Install Anycut
Anycut is a app that makes shortcuts. In this case to the Programming menu

After you install the app. Do the following
Launch the app and click the button that says new shortbut
Click on Activity
Scroll down till you find the Programming Menu. Click it and click ok to the popup
NOTE: There are 2 listed. Select the 2nd one first. If that doesn't work, then redo the steps and select the 1st one.
Step 4) Create a new APN Via Programming Menu
Click the shortcut that Anycut made
Scroll down to 13 APN Controls. Click APN Config Edit. You should see no APNs listed
Click on the menu and select New APN
Enter the same APN settings from above
There is a setting that you have access to that isn't in the settings option APN. Under the APN Protocol you can select IPv4, IPv6,IPv4/IPv6. From what I read this is experimental and may not improve anything, but tmobile customers may find this working.

I normally would get 5-8 Mbps at my house. With this APN Setup, I get 12-16. I have 2 bars normally. I drove to Walmart after doing this and I got 41Mb down and 13Mb up with full service.

This is what it did for me. The first screenshot is showing the 41(full service as you notice) then I reverted back to original apn. Those are normal at my house. The last 2 are at my school.

You would have to change the mcc and mcn to your country and network provider.
Actually every outside of att would have to use this. This is the site for worldwide lookup.

There are alot of sites that have different setups for each carrier, but not many that explain what they mean. Here are some of them.
The FOTA and MMS are obvious. trying to find info on the admin and internet.
1. Dial Up Network (TYPE_MOBILE_DUN)
This is really old but might be used for some very old networks. Networking Bridge so that the carrier is aware of DUN traffic. It may coexist with default data connections.
3. High Priority Mobile data {TYPE_MOBILE_HIPRI}
A High Priority Mobile data connection. This connection is typically the same as {TYPE_MOBILE} but the routing setup is different. Only requesting processes will have access to the Mobile DNS servers and only IP’s explicitly requested via {@link #requestRouteToHost} will route over this interface if a default route exists.
Below are the APN TYPES that you set in the APN config on your phone.
1. Default (TYPE_MOBILE)
The Default Mobile data connection. When active, all data traffic will use this connection by default. Should not coexist with other default connections.
3. supl (TYPE_MOBILE_SUPL);
A Secure User Plane Location specific Mobile data connection. This connection may be the same as {TYPE_MOBILE} but it may be different. This is used by applications needing to talk to the carrier’s Secure User Plane Location servers for help locating the device
