[Q] Google Maps API terms - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I want to use Google Maps in my app to show location of friends around. I m planning to sell the app on playstore, or may be I will add ads in it for earning. Does google allow to sell out an app in which Google Maps are used?? Do I need to purchase any kind of license? Or is it free and I can use maps for making my earning...

Safe alternatives to Google.Play?

Hello
I know that I must wear a condom while surfing the net and installing apps to keep safe but is Google.Play the only safe place to visit for Android Apps?
Or are there other good, and safe places to download free and paid for apps?
I only ask as an app I bought from the Android Market, which changed to Google.Play is no longer on the site. However the app can be found in a place called AndroidPit. I can't find any reviews of this site and I don't know if I can trust them with my credit card details.
google play is the safest and cant tell about other "unofficial" alternatives,
but to browse apps appbrain is good but when you want to download something it forwards you to google play.. there is some plugin for appbrain which enables web download but i never tried it cause i m happy with google play
1mobile.com is a decent site, you can download the vast majority of free apps. Doesn't have any paid apps though. If you're in the US, Amazon App Store is probably a reasonable alternative.

I do not recommend market alternative ,if you want to play safe applications.
Google Play at least when it is discovered malware is deleted (even remotely).
Alternative market of this assurance level do not have it ..
Actually getjar.com is good, its how I get tapatalk free and its a reputable site so should be safe

mmm safest...http://www.ghacks.net/2011/11/13/free-android-anti-virus-apps-are-proved-useless/
app brain fast web install plugin works flawlessly , and i think app brain is a good choice/alt,
sometimes smoother than goo play
Google Play is far and beyond the best and safest place to find apps, including apps up to date.
how to download removed purchased apps

if you still have the direct link to your paid app, there is a high chance it is still available in the market, even if the developer and google says other wise!
I had a similar situation for an app called pzizz which was apparently removed from the market due to changes in the company that makes it,
neither the new management nor google told me it still exists,
I managed to download it though by accessing the market from my pc and downloading it.
this could happen only if
you have the original link of the paid app ( you could not find the app by searching or browsing google play, you must have the original link)
you purchased the app before it is removed, if you didnt, the direct link for the app would not work, only if you purchased the app and signed in by the account in which the app was purchased you would be able to see the app
requesting to download the app from a computer, you cant do this directly from your phone and further when it is downloaded it will not be linked to the market
good luck
Why not Aptoide?

I saw your post and I had to reply. I worked for Aptoide, which is an independent android marketplace and they do a screening to the apps (at least the ones in their "apps" repository) so that they're free of malware. They were thinking of launching paid apps soon, but for now you have a lot of free apps that are safe to download.
Try it, maybe you'll be surprised!

Google Latitude is no longer on the app store. Recommendations for alternative?

I noticed that Google latitude is no longer on the Play store. What other good tracking apps do you recommend?
I just need to know where my teenager is for his own safety. We both have Andriod based phones.
Isn't latitude a part of Google maps app? I think you should open maps, tap on the top left and you'll get the latitude option there

After reading all comments and requests about this on G+, maybe somebody will be interested in our small app MapTrack. NO registration on third-party servers is needed to manage or share tracks. User shares his track by direct link to people he wants, and manage his tracks in Google Docs. The user has full control of his own data and people follow him in usual browser. Each point of the track has time , location and some other useful info. The app also has an option to record offline tracks. Perfect to stay in touch with your family in real time and your followers don't need G+ or any special app - just internet browser. Give it a try or contact us with any questions:

[Q] It's OK to create an Android App for a TV Show?

Hello XDA Members. Nice to post my question.
I create a Quiz app for a TV show but if I publish the app on the play store, I'm afraid from Google will ban my account. I'm not sure but i heard if you are using a name of a show it's illegal and against the play store policy as publisher.
But from my point of view I saw many apps for this show and until now those apps still online on the Google Play store.
Anyway, if you have knowledge or an experience. Please reply :good:.

I think you have to contact to show right owner, and ask about possibility of streaming their show in you apps. Google Play can ban your app if your app will violate copyrights.

I'm not streaming the show on my app. It's just a simple Q & A app (Quiz App). I'm not streaming anything.

Offline Map App for China?

Google Maps doesn't offer Offline Maps for China, Here Maps also revoke their support for China Mainland. Is there any Offline Maps App which support China and is easy to use for english speaking foreigner? Baidu Maps is nice, but only usuable with some chinese language skills.
OSM based Apps aren't a alternative as their Map coverage is very limited.
There was a "hacked" Google Maps App couple of years ago which allow to download offline maps for every country, but it's not working anymore. May there are other "hacked" Apps for this, now?
Or is it possible to download Chinese Offline Maps with Google Maps using a VPN from inside China?

Hello and welcome to the XDA Forums Q&A section.
I found an app that is hopefully what you are looking for (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.mapof.china&hl=en). If you intend to use this while walking it is probably not recommended since a guy wrote a comment on the app saying:
Your app is excellent however I have found that when I put in the log/lat coordinates from google maps of specific point they do not match. They seem to be out by 500 metres. For example google map reference of a point in Beijing is 39.9075797 / 116.399314 The same location on your app has is : 39.90618 / 116.39313 I would assume that the coordinates from google are the accurate ones. After trying this with a number of different locations it seems like this 500 metere offset is across the board and perhaps the starting reference point in your app is not precise enough.

If the app is not what you are looking for, kindly reply and enjoy your stay!
Hopefully I helped you and if I did, hit thanks .
ThisApp based on OSM, so the map quality isn't good. OSM is banned in China, thats why nobody help to improve map data there.

A fake Google maps app that redirect to FLOSS app

Hi,
I plan to degoogle my phone to clean memory and avoid spying.
I found an alternative for every app but I can't replace google maps because i'm working with the uber-driver app and this application search for the google maps binary to allow navigation once you click on its "NAVIGATE" button (It opens the required itinerary in the google maps application.)
What i need is a fake Google maps apk that is installed as "com.google.android.apps.maps" and that will make a redirection of the given itinerary to another maps app of my choice ("Here Wego" and "Maps.me" are awesome alternatives)
As i know there is no such app inside the nanodroid package.
Is it a planned feature from microG or is there a such application somewhere ?

I don't think just replacing the package name of another maps app will do the trick, because it's likely that uber integrated more deeply google map in their service rather than just "calling the app". I'm not sure tho as I never used it.
Re:
No it is not so deeply integrated.
Their own maps are deeply integrated but when you choose to use google maps as navigator in settings it will opens Google maps as a separated app (new window) once you click on the "navigate" button.
The problem is that uber detects only google-maps or waze as alternatives external apps for navigation.
If your phone's Android is rooted you may consider to redirect the APK from installed Google Maps app ( /data/app/com.google.android.apps.maps-2.apk ) to APK of another installed maps app of your choice ( e.g. /data/app/com.here.app.maps-2.apk) , means to create a link.
not sure

It's not sure it will work since Uber detects the installation of the Google Maps app.
If it's an in-depth analysis, a simple symbolic link won't be enough.
I just found a fake maps app inside this package :
https://github.com/ronnayryukay/microGISG
I'll have to try it.
