[Q] Lost video file, please help! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have 4 videos on my phone. Was reviewing them with the stock gallery and video player. After going through the set, I look back and one of the videos is missing. I deleted nothing, I rooted nothing, I installed only trustworthy apps and it is otherwise a pure Google nexus 4. What the hell... incredibly frustrated at Google right now. Someone please prove that this is PEBSAC or tell me how to recover this video?
Only possible explanation I have right now would be corrupt storage (but it it was fine when I played it back so this is not plausible), which would imply Google has garbage quality and doesn't know error correction. Even with a corrupt file, it should still show up with read errors, and not just disappear!

Things don't just disappear, don't blame google, they make the OS, Not the apps that run the media. It's likely the video has moved somewhere. Rebooting almost always solves this. I can 98% guarantee the video is still there with a 2% chance of it not, if it's not then shame, i was wrong. However don't just go around blaming google for something they have no fault in.

It's not there. I am 98% sure it was not moved. 2% in case the camera/gallery app likes to move people's files and hide them. The file sizes add up, and this video file is definitely missing from the storage usage; that's how I know it's not "still there" somewhere.

Sound plays but no video

Hello.. I'm a newbie and I've just encountered my first problem with my S2..
All video does not play on my phone anymore. I get sound and black screen.. I get this from video I've recorded and films I have put onto my phone.. This happens off internal and external memory too.
I turned my phone on this morning and tried to view video and now I see all my video's again..But recorded video looks very grainy and pixelated. Not sure if it's software or hardware related, but I'm seriously gutted because it's my sons Birthday today and I'll be unable to record anything.
If I have to take my phone back and get it replaced, what will happen to all of the App's I've paid for? Will I be able to move them to a new S2, with the same Google account?
This is my first Android phone and I know very little...lol. Was absolutely loving it before this video playback problem.. I did a search but couldn't find anything relating to this problem..Maybe I'm not using key words...idk.
Just recorded some new footage and it looks fine..But all video footage I recorded before the problem started is pixelated... Am I best restoring the phone or is there a workaround with some setting or something?
Sorry should have said in first post...I'm on sim free and I've not done anything with the phone yet. V 2.3.3

[Q] strange file downloading

hopefully somebody can shed some light on something for me. I had just started fresh, sd card and all. I flashed PWGB v2.0b3 with pit. I was in the process of reinstalling my apps all fresh from market, sdcard was wiped so no titanium restores. I noticed the alert sound like i had received a email and noticed a file was downloading itself with the name of qqsecure2.2.0(something something) with alot of chinese characters. The icon beside the file being downloaded looked similar to a sun if i remember right. I have a list of the apps i was restoring but have no idea how far down the list i was at. Again all apps were from the market. I know some malware apps exist but i was under the impression you had to go out of your way to catch one. If i were a betting man i would say that this was innocent and normal but it kinda freaked me out as the phone is rooted and i do banking on it occasionally.
Simple searches didn't yield any results for me on xda and nothing in english on google. Anyone have any idea if this was known and good or is my immediate shutting down and reflashing warrented?
Though it does sound weird. To be safe, try to re-flash it or just go to MIUI. I know and have talked to a English dev from that team. And they have a background service that prevents anything from accessing the data partition

id love to go with miui or cm but im afraid that i need absolute stablilty and fear such roms cant offer it at this time. by no means am i knocking those roms but i cant have any surprises at all so i shy away from those roms. the whole reason i was starting back fresh was occasional hipups with the TKSGB kern on my particular device.
After having it happen again I happened to be paying more attention and noticed that a app was to blame. Greek mythology is the offender. I installed lookout before redownloading and for what its worth it let the app pass right through. I'm pretty certain thats the app responsible and its still on the market. Just surprised because I hadn't heard of any trojans on the us market.

[Q] Music Junk HELP!

Does anyone know where I can find the latest version of Music Junk? Mine just keeps saying "Network Error" and all the searches I have done are really old posts. Can someone help me please???
Looks like it might be gone for good since the Facebook and Twitter page has been pulled....
I've been wondering the same, but I guess it really is finally gone for good... which blows because it was the best app for downloading music, hands down.
After posting my last, I installed Music Junk 4.3 on my phone again and opened it immediately to try it out again. I searched for music and it actually worked. I downloaded a couple of songs and everything, but then it stopped working after trying another search. Not sure what this means, but hopefully something positive...
Can you post a link for 4.3? I couldn't find it anywhere. I found other versions, but not that one. Pretty Please?
I have this problem with 4.3 I also tried to uninstall & reinstall. I tried 4.2 as well with no luck. This is typical of them when they change versions, but I haven't seen a 4.4 version out there...

But the more important question is are you getting 4.3 to work? Seems like most of us are getting "network error" on any searches.
I have a 4.3, but it's not like it's doing me any good.

I did last night, randomly... decided to install it again and try it. The first search worked and I was able to download several songs. After that, no such luck. I've been getting network error ever since.
I remember long time back (HTC hero days) music junk used to have some files, that used to pull data from these music websites, that used to get outdated. hence, the new versions would have the new files and we would not get the network errors...
If we can get a developer to look into some recent music junk versions and look into the changes made, we might be able to get it working again.

The thing is that music junk was the only app that showed the bitrate of each song. And it worked! The quality of songs was amazing.
The thing is that there is a very easy fix for this Network error... We just need a developer to look into it.

I agree, with Rolle you are at the mercy of whatever is available bit rate wise. I have had good results so far, sometimes CD 44.1 quality or near, sometimes its complete crap. Just throwing out there for a suggestion to hold you over! I agree and hope a developer can modify music junk as necessary.

My worst nightmares have come true. Music junk hands down the best music app without an overly stupid gui, has bitrate info, and the largest music selection.
I'm seriously debating getting back into java programming to make it work again... but soo much work
Samsung Galaxy S3 // tapatalk
Anybody know of an alternative method of downloading free music, I haven't paid for music in three years thanks to music junk.

I think it's a done deal, guys. Anytime the servers went offline & we waited on a new version,I was still able to download on mj ver3.0.that is the only version that would work all the time even when the newer current ones would come network error. Needless to say, 3 isn't working anymore.
No way 4.3 was working for me this month now i get network error why i love this app. Any one know if there is an update like 4.4 or am alternative app out there?
I'm using v 3.0.4, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The trick is i have to press search a few times, i get the "network error'' the first tries but eventually it loads the search page. I get the error far more times when im using the network than through wi fi. But once it goes through i click on the song and downloads on the first try.

[APP] GMusicFS

***NOTE: I take absolutely no credit for developing this app or supporting it. Flash at your own risk.
That being taken care of, most of you on this board know how much I love music and when I saw this posted on xda's news, I had to grab it and share it ASAP. Summed up, we have a storage issue without and external sdcard. This app allows all your music stored on Google Music to be mounted on a virtual hard drive on your sdcard. This allows a number of popular players to play all your music stored on the cloud as if its on your internal memory. I now have my N7 library full of over 5000 songs with Beats, DSPManager v2, and N7's EQ working in perfect harmony!!!
Just use the help tab within the app to get the settings right for whatever player you're going to be using. I'd donate to this guy right now if I could.

I'm not sure if it will work with stock music app. If there's a setting in there to tell it where to look for music and to force a refresh of the library, it might. I am sure that it does stream from Google Play, though. It just sets up a database the local player can read on a virtual hard drive. The music still comes from the cloud (Google Play), so you'll use up your 2gigs quickly streaming.
This made me think of the potential of this app. Once he gets the bugs squashed, I bet he can make it so you create say a "Music" folder on your Dropbox, Box, GDrive account and upload your music in there. He can make it read those files and create a database as well. This app has HUGE potential.

bubbleguuum just posted!
Speaking of HTC devices, do not use GMusicFS with HTC device until I have found a fix for the slow scan issue.
This issue can make your Google Music daily quota go over limit, which will makes streaming impossible from any client until the quota is resetted (in less than 24h since it is a daily quota).
I have added this warning in the first post of this topic.

Yes, I am the unlucky one that brought that to his attention. My device hit its limit in less than 2 hours. so i only have pandora for any kind of streaming music for now.
after providing logs and testing later revisions of his app, he now has what he needs and is working on a way to reliably identify any device, specific to htc to where his new rule can be implemented

After the sync completed on mine, I noticed it was scanning, and stuck at 0% for a long time. It seemed strange, but thought I would let it finish. I went to look at the OT and saw he had posted that. I instantly stopped the scan, and will wait for the next revision.

yea i only have 1318 songs in my google music library and the first run through, it took 2hours to scan and got stuck on 80% ... then again on 5% then again on 67% ... all that scanning and requesting/accessing data from the google server has limited me out for the day.
according to websites :http://www.droid-life.com/2012/03/21/have-your-reached-a-streaming-limit-in-google-music-yet/
"We have been told that there is a daily streaming limit, but that it has been set so high that the majority of users will likely never hit it. "

I have no idea what the scan is for and it was taking forever, so I reboot at like 2%. It hasn't tried to sync since (or I just haven't checked recently if it has) and I haven't had an issue.

just letting yall know. for us with HTC devices, he has fixed the issues of the slow scanning. we did some more testing and finally got me working with a test build. i think he is going to be updating the OP with this soon
scanned all 1300+ songs in 2 minutes 14 seconds (where it took over 2 hours yesterday) this was 'htc device specific' i did see others who had slow scanning issues as well.
Thanks for the update. I'm really looking forward to using this app.

0.9.3 beta is up, which addresses the HTC issue, thanks to JWhetstone02's help
I did get a full scan in this time (thanks J.) However, when I initiated a new music scan in N7 player, it FC'd. I'll mess with it later.
After the force crash I rebooted and music library was completely empty. I forced a scan for music within N7 and everything came back. All is good now.

Advice about malware

Hi Folks.
I've done something a bit silly and hoping some Android expert on here may be able to help me.
I stupidly installed an app from an external source using a link that was given me for a specific app.
I am now freaking out about malware/spyware and all the rest of it.
At this point, I must point out that there is nothing to immediately suggest the app is bad. I only installed it a few hours ago on my phone but there hasn't been anything suspicious like extra battery use, heat, unknown apps in the list of battery usage or pop ups or anything like that. It could be that it's absolutely fine (and probably is.)
What I'm more concerned about is that there may be some nefarious background process running that means I suddenly wake up and find my bank account has been drained, or I'm being blackmailed by some Russian hacker that has hold of my emails and photos etc.
TWO IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS (before anybody states the below:
- Yes, I know it was a stupid thing to do and I don't know what came over me. But it is done now.
- I know that a full factory reset is the best way to clear all but I'm desperate to avoid that. It took me two days to setup my new S21 Ultra and hate the thought of going through all of that again!
I know that Google Play Protect helps with apps from the GP Store, but I assume this is not relevant here because it came from an external source. Is there any kind of facility where I can upload the app and it scans it? Or am I screwed?
I also know you can download Norton etc but I read that they may not be effective on things like this. FYI, I am running the January 1st Android security patch (the most recent available.)
Thanks in advance.
Scan the apk file with online Virustotal.
Meh... show us the apk in question.
I have a few side loaded apps, so what?
Playstore is no sure bet either... load what you need, disregard the rest and toss the bad ones.
A badly written app can cause headaches even after it's uninstalled. Not as common with Android as in Windows but it happens.
On a clean load I'm careful what I install ie known good apps.
