[Q] Q: Does Bootloader key from older rom work on newer. - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This might have been covered in some other thread but I couldn't find one. Title says it all really. I got a bootloader key when my XTZ was on andriod 4.2.2 will that work on 4.3. I think that the bootloader is completely independant to rom/android version or am I mistaken.

I think it might work, but why not ask for a new one? I think I did that with my XS

You are right. Bootloader keys área firmware independent, as long as you are on stock firmware/kernel

Why would you?
On the S2 or the Note samsung added a new bootloader wich was hard to hack and thus rooting became difficult. By flashing the old bootloader rooting was possible again. This isn`t the case here.

I want to update because I want to stay up to date to get the more of my phones. I have two i9300 and the outdated one, always is the loser in all things, also presents a laggy UI
The bootloader has absolutey nothing to do with any of your problems.

I really wouldnt do it, you would be silly to do it, devs always say not to mess with bootloaders. Bootloaders have nothing to do with the problems you are describing, if you get lag then update to jelly bean, I am using it and it is very smooth and silky.

Seriously though why do you want to update your bootloader?
Are they the same model, firmware, kernel? If so factory reset them both and test both devices..
What makes you think it's the bootloader anyway, do you know what it does?
My solution at this moment was to update to I9300XXELLA, it includes a Bootloader update

Q: Unlock bootloader?

Hi guys, I've had a Desire HD, Xoom and TF700 in the past and all of them needed to have an unlocked bootloader in order to flash custom roms.
Is it the same here?
Because rooting went very easy here, done in half a minute thanks to the cf method
nope, it's unlocked
Bootloader is by unlocked by stock.. But verizon version has a locked bootloader.

Thank you both
I indeed have an EU i9300 so I was able to flash a Rom very easily.
I just didn't trust the whole process cause it seemed too easy! xD

ROM for Xperia Tablet S, if rooted

Hi,
In the future IF sony unlock the Xperia Tablet S bootloader (with the next JB update ??? cross finger...), is a ROM exists for this tablet ???
Which ROM is avalaible for our tablet ?
Thanx
There are no available custom ROMs for neither of the Sony tablets until now. If we can unlock bootloader and root the tablet on JB, maybe things will change..
Since the bootloader is Fastboot mode then maybe it is possible to unlock the bootloader from there by doing 'fastboot.exe oem-unlock'.

Will not work for sure since Sony VAIO did something to the bootloader unless we can get the device to lock on to the bootloader.

"If you want to experiment.." Translates to, if you're willing to try...
It works.. I am currently on the latest ota 4.1.2 P769 20d with unlocked bootloader, rooted, cwm recovery. YMMV, try at your own risk.
It seems like he said you can experiment too unlock it or wait for jelly bean update, thank you ill try it today i'm tired of waiting xD

The jelly bean update came, it's not unlockable as hoped.. So it's the only method, currently, there isn't much dev activity on this device either, if you notice in the subforums. So waiting might be a long time, or a surprise..
If you don't mind me asking, what in particular are you need to do that requires unlocked bootloader? We can already root and bootstrap cwm recovery without unlocking it.
thanks,
I would like to use custom ROMS on my phone, can you do that without unlocking the bootloader?
i have CWM already also.
The only ROM available is an unofficial cyan 10.1 ... Its working alright for me so far. It was a pita unlocking it, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you know you want cyanogen (a buggy one).
Ignore my SIG, my 769 thinks its 760 now

Plenty of guide for rooting in general section. Two options for rooting w/o unlocking bootloader..

if you root but dont unlock bootloader, can you still have a custom recovery and flash roms?
thanks

Yes, but with more limited options than unlocking bootloader. Now we have working recovery but requires unlocking bootloader. Recovery w/o unlocking bootloader is still in progress, check the original android development section.

thanks; I know I have read that unlocking the bootloader currently disables some features in the phone, but I am sure its only a matter of time till the fantastic devs get that sorted out..plus, once they announce who is carrying this phone in the US, there will be ALOT more people, including devs, jumping on board! :good:
Mine is rooted with vroot and i m not sure will it lost DRM keys or not.
