[Q] Automatically connect to VPN on Device Startup - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA,
I have an android device: it's a stick connected to my TV, running android 4.1 rooted. The stick is an MK808B, if that means anything to anyone here. The stick is connected to my TV's USB so that when I turn the TV on, the stick boots and when I turn the TV off, it shuts down completely.
I am looking for something that automatically connect the stick to VPN when I boot it. I would preferably use VPN over L2DP, although I'll take PPTP if there's no other option. I can't use openVPN because my ROM's kernel doesn't have TUN. There are two ways to approach this: one way is to connect it on boot, another way is to connect to VPN when the stick connects to a wireless network because my stick is stationary and always connects to the same wi-fi network.
Any ideas on how to get this done? Thanks all!

Sorry for bumping, but does anyone have any ideas?

[Q] Wake on LAN wireless PC through internet by Android device

Hello,
I am searching for apps who can wake on LAN my wireless PC by using my HTC Legend device (through internet connection). Is this possible? What apps are currently the best in the market? Thanks a lot for your advise.
Rgds, Marvon
I'm normally using this one:
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.mafro.android.wakeonlan
and sometimes this one:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.benfinnigan.wol
But you have to check, that you can open UDP Port 9 on your Router on the Broadcast IP (x.x.x.255) and add a DynDNS Domain if you dont have a static IP.
If you have a FritzBox you cannot open that port that easily but there is a nice App for that:

Hi Fabi280,
thanks a lot for your reply. I am completely new to this. WOL is enabled in the bios but i cannot find the wol settings in my wireless WMP600N network card). Do you have a manual available how to set this up and let it work?
tchuss,
Marvon
The Solution is pretty simple.
There is no WOL with WLAN, actually there is but there aren't much devices that support that Technology. So lets say it just works with a LAN Cable plugged in.
A Device that has Wake On Lan enabled doesnt shut off the Network card, so its always connected, even if it is off (and its connected to power).
LAN doesnt consume that much power, as there is always power on the LAN Cable.
WLAN consumes much more power than LAN and is often used on Mobile Devices which are using Batteries
Hy, can anyone help me with this:
I have made my pc to wake and everything is working great, but after some time it stops working and I cannot wake my pc anymore... Anyone knows what is the problem? I tried to set up lease and everything and I do not know what is the problem...
In my android app I have:
ip address: 86.xx.xx.xx
mac addres: CB:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (from my pc)
and port: 9
in router I have pre-assigned DHCP IP Address (192.xxx.x.xx) to MAC address.
If I turn off my pc, I can turn on my pc with the app, but after some time it stops working...
any help please...

[Q] Tethering issue

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I've searched and couldn't find anything that matches what I'm after.
I have a GNex running custom 4.2.2 and Windows 7 x64.
I want to be able to access my phone from my PC. To do this, I installed AirDroid. All good so far.
Issue 1: Using WiFi to access the phone, it doesn't do anything when the screen is off/the device is locked. Annoying.
Issue 2: Using USB tethering, it works fine when the screen is off, but kills my PC's internet access. Also annoying.
I would like to use USB tethering if possible, but I only want to be able to access my phone via AirDroid, not use it for internet (my PC has a much better wired connection already).
More on issue 2: Windows says the DNS server is unavailable when I troubleshoot. The moment I plug in my phone and the NDIS-thingy connection is formed, I lose internet access via my normal connection. It goes back to normal as soon as I unplug it. I've tried changing the priority of the network devices, but to no avail.
Any help appreciated.
Solved my own problem.
To those who are curious:
Under network settings for the USB tether, set DNS server addresses manually, go into advanced settings, and set the default gateway to whatever your router's address is.

Weird question. Use phone's Internet to connect to computer by USB?

Ok let me try to explain.
I DON'T want to use my 4g to do USB tendering. What I want is while my phone is connected to my home wifi I want to use that wifi that is on my phone and connect it to my laptop via USB tedering.
Reason being, my laptops wifi is messed up but not the lan. I don't want to use all my phone data so I want to grab the home Internet with my phone and use my phone as a direct line to my laptop without using 4g.
Hopefully I didn't confuse anyone. Does anyone know if there is a tool like that somewhere.

Click to collapse
if you enable the usb tethering, wifi will be turned off, the only way is to use lan cable. connect your laptop to your wifi modem with lan cable, it has at least one lan port.

[Q] LAN fails when connected to a VPN server.

Hi,
I've been holding back this question ever since Kitkat (4.4) hit the phones.
How come it's not possible to connect to any devices within any lan when connected to a VPN service? It worked fine pre-kitkat. I've been holding back on upgrading for long while now but I couldn't resist any longer.
I've noticed that it's possible to WoL (wake on lan) though. Why is that? Is there a way to work out being connected to a VPN service and still discover other devices on the current LAN?
Best regards.

WiFi LAN with no internet connection unstable

Hi,
I have a wireless router that allows me to plug in a Hard drive / SD Card etc. It can be a bridge to another network or an Access Point etc but can also just be a LAN without an internet connection allowing access to the connected devices.
This works perfectly on my Nexus tablet / PC etc, however, on my Mate 20 Pro, the connection is unstable to the point of not being able to use it. I get a notification saying the WiFi connection doesn't have an internet connection I press connect anyway and from there it keeps dropping and reconnecting the connection.
If I plug the router into a network point and give it an internet connection it works perfectly on the Mate 20 and any other devices.
I think this is some clever connection manager thing Huawei is doing to try to connect to the internet but can't find a way to stop it. I am going travelling and wanted to only take the router and my phone however it is looking like I will need to take my tablet too to use it for what I need.
I've searched and searched the internet and here for clues but nothing so I am hoping someone has an idea.
Thanks
Andrew
