I've got a Verizon Galaxy S4, all stock, not rooted or anything. It's been working fine up until today. I'm not getting any email notification tones. When I go to the settings for the email app, the stock app, click on Account Settings and select the email account I want to make changes to, it says "Unfortunately, Email has stopped.".
I've tried restarting the phone. I've tried rebooting by turning it off and then back on. I've removed the battery. No matter what, I get this message, regardless of how I go about trying to change the settings. Does anyone know what's happened and/or how to fix this problem?

I can't send any email. I had 1 message send on thursday somehow but nothing else gets out. My settings are configured properly but for some reason every time i try to send a message via email I always get the error saying i have no connection or my settings are wrong. anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?
edit: Solved. Turns out I had my gmail account settings added through an OEM I made and there was something wonky in it. I deleted the account from the phone and re-added the account manually (without allowing it to auto-detect settings) and it works fine now. I find it strange that the problem also affected other email accounts that were using smtp.gmail.com to send out but doesn't now... odd.
Cannot access any of my sms messages, phone is vibrating on receipt of a message. However no notification, or message is displayed on any software.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking about just going back to Windows Mobile after all this hassle! lol.
Also, if i send a message...it seems to lock up even though they send... If I go into messages again afterwards it appears in the list... however if I try and open the message I have sent this also just freezes.
Any ideas?
Can you give us any more information?
Has the phone always done this or just started recently?
What firmware is the phone running?
Have you installed any other SMS applications?
Hello,
I have a problem. My phone randomly rebooted today and when I go back into the phone all my recent messages have been deleted and only old messages (from a couple days ago) show up. I have Handcent installed and deleted it. When I turn off and on my phone, Handcent reappears and again only my old messages appear. Can someone please help. I don't know why Handcent keeps restoring. I am not rooted either in case it matters.
Thank You
Do you have delete old messages in either the stock messaging or Handcent app?
It is a setting you can turn off, I think its on by default.
No I have that off. The strange part is that the Handcent app keeps restoring after I restart the phone. I just want it off my phone without having to wipe the whole phone.
A few days ago I noticed that my voicemail notification in the notification bar was still displayed even though I did not have any new voicemails.
I googled and found a few suggestions on how to clear the notification. One was to go into app manager and uncheck the show notification box in the phone app. I did that but still had the notification showing. The next was to use the clear cache and clear data buttons in the phone app, both of which I did. That did clear the notification, but now I do not get any voicemail notifications .
I tried to go back into the phone ap and recheck the notification box, but it is now greyed out and I can not.
I next tried using the reset phone option in backup and reset, but I still have the same issue.
I have the phone rooted and S Off using sunshine and have TWRP installed. I do not have a custom ROM installed.
Can anyone verify that they have the ability to check/uncheck the notification box in their phone app, I might be imagining that I was able to do that part. If I should have the ability to use that box, can anyone help me out in getting the option back?
*****Update*****
It seems all of my problem was not phone related, but Verizon related. Somehow, they had my account partially subscribed to visual voicemail. I had them put me back on the regular plain voicemail and I am getting the notifications again now, so problem solved.
Weird issue actually. When trying to delete multiple text messages the check box unchecks itself. I select the message and press the check box button and it unchecks itself. Even if I select them all it unchecks itself. Cant figure it out.. Recently updated to a unrooted 4.4.4
I think it might be the Att backup and sync doing it cause its restoring messages..
Didnt seem to help. even disabled this feature via AT&T and it still unchecks the boxes on its own... Anyone else having this issue?
